EOarts Brings Together Extraordinary International Talents From Different Creative Industries For A Show In Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- On March 18, 2023, The Espejo Organization for the Arts (EOarts) will present THE EXTRAORDINARIES, an exhibition that brings together some of the best foreign-born talents working in the American creative industry. "The goal of the show is to highlight the quality and innovation that imported talent brings to the cultural and creative landscape of the US," said Kika Espejo, Director of EOarts.

The show, which takes its title from the denomination of the visa and permanent resident status awarded to professionals of extraordinary ability in the field of the arts, includes an array of creative practices from immigrant artists from all over the world.

"Creatives who have obtained Extraordinary Ability immigration statuses have demonstrated their original contribution to their field but don't often get much visibility, nor does the wide public recognize what an important role imported talent plays in the development of our country's creative industry," Espejo explains.

This show presents a survey of the works that a selection of these professionals are currently developing, bringing together creators of many different industries to promote and bring awareness to the significance that immigrant talents play in the development of the American cultural field.

The show will count on the participation of accomplished and award-winning international artists and creative professionals. In the area of visual arts, the exhibition will present the works of Brazilian painter and illustrator Niege Borges, Japanese sand artist Naoshi, Lebanese mix media artist Hildos, Hongkongese artist and milliner Penny Chu, Iranian Illustrator Elham Ataeiazar, and Spanish painters Amaia Marzabal and Aida Miro. Macedonian visual artist Mensur Bojda, Ukranian surface and texture artist Maksym Kazarin, and Indian multidisciplinary artist Kuldeep Singh are also taking part in this show.

In the area of photography, the show will include three distinguished professionals, including the fashion and documentary photographer from Sweden, Izabella Demavlys, the Canadian fine art and wedding photographer Erica Reade, and the boudoir and fine arts photographer from Mexico, Gaspar Marquez, who is also involved in the production of the show.

Additionally, the event will include the works of exceptional creatives in the field of design, such as English graphic designer Crissy Bogusz, Chilean art director Nicolas Mardones, Indian urban designer Uttara Ramakrishnan, Spanish architectural designer Ana Avanzini, and the Czech 3D designers Johana & Maxim Kroft. In the area of fashion, the show will also count on the works of Chinese creative director Churou Wang, Japanese costume designer Saori Mitome, and Chinese bespoke tailor and designer Yuecen Cai.

Adding to the exhibition and organized with the support of Brazilian producer Roberta Fernandes, the event will also host two special performances and presentations. Spanish actor and producer Edu Diaz will present an excerpt from his successful play Fantastic Mr. S, recently presented at the United Solo Festival. The Brazilian editor and astrologist, Larissa Xavier, will also participate in the show with a presentation of her collaborative project "New York Women & The Zodiac."

"THE EXTRAORDINARIES is a one-of-its-kind event that intends to go beyond the mere experience of a traditional art show. Multidisciplinary shows have the ability to bring together works from many fields into a conversation, allowing not only to create intrinsic connections between pieces but to generate narratives that expand beyond the borders of each medium," says Colombian Guest Curator Julian Montenegro.

The exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, March 18, 2023, between 6:30 and 8:30 pm, at Meadow Studios (35 Meadow Street) in Brooklyn.

Gund Gallery Presents ‘The Art of Trees,’ an Exhibition Inviting New Dialogue about Our Relationship to Our Environment

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Gund Gallery at Kenyon College is pleased to announce "The Art of Trees," an exhibition on view at the Gund from January 22 - April 11, 2021.

"The Art of Trees" reveals the many resonances, forms, and relationships of trees. Exploring themes of restoration and destruction, community and isolation, location and identity, and fragile temporalities, the 14 artists featured in the exhibition experiment with a range of mediums from painting to digital video, and even use trees as creative collaborators to express our essential and inseparable bond with these guardians of the earth.

"The Art of Trees" invites an interdisciplinary dialogue about personal, local, and global relationships to the environment, while simultaneously drawing attention to interactions between trees themselves, the communities they form, and their resilience despite human interference.

"The sense of community that trees uniquely inspire came to life through the collaborative curatorial endeavor of Gund Associates, Gallery and College staff, and Kenyon faculty," says Dr. Jodi Kovach, curator of academic programs at the Gund Gallery and an important participant in the development of the exhibition. She continues, "By leveraging one another's experiences with nature, modes of aesthetic appreciation, and perspectives on the environmental crisis, they have realized an exhibition that shows us how art can transform our ways of living with and in the natural world."

The participating Gund Associates add, "We hope that this exhibition provokes discussion about the environment and invites a heightened collective consciousness about the intersection of community and place, near and far."

In addition, the Gund Gallery is pleased to present "Nearby Voices." This special section of "The Art of Trees" exhibition offers artistic reflections on the local landscape as a shared point of witness and imagines trees as archives of commonly held stories and experiences that branch across generations of a community. "Nearby Voices" bridges the gap between global and local environmental concerns by engaging with the art and voices of community members. It will also include the work of 2020-21 artist-in-residence Brian Harnetty, an interdisciplinary, socially and environmentally engaged artist who is working collaboratively with community members to create a "sonic map" of Gambier and surrounding Knox County.

"The Art of Trees" is curated by a committee of Gund Associates, Kenyon faculty, and Gund Gallery staff who worked together in a collaborative, multi-year process to bring this project to life.

‘Lest We Forget’ Art Show Looks Back at Four Years of the Trump Administration

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Phoenix, Arizona artist Bob Diercksmeier announced today that his art exhibition "Lest We Forget" will remain online at lestweforgetartshow.com through November 3, 2020. The show features 13 works created in 2020, all relating to events before and during the Trump Presidential administration since 2016. Visitors can view all pieces in a virtual 3D gallery on the website. The show is online-only because of COVID-19.

Bob is a Phoenix native and has been working as a professional artist in the valley since 1992. This show is a departure from the landscape-oriented work for which he is currently known.

"This work is very different from what I've been doing the past few years," Diercksmeier stated. "It's topical, political, and I hope thought-provoking." When asked why he created the show, Bob replied, "It's just how I naturally responded to all that was happening, all the things that were being said and done. I felt like I had to say something, and I speak my truth through my art."

With just over a week until Election Day, the show is an intriguing review of the last four years. The works explore current issues like immigration, civil rights, discrimination, racism, and hypocrisy in digital and three-dimensional media. The digital pieces have various elaborate visual montages that are output onto different surfaces. The dimensional works include text art with manually stamped lettering, print-on-demand products, and assembled and framed physical objects.

'Lest We Forget' will be viewable online from October 2 through November 3, 2020, at https://lestweforget.bdabstracts.com/.

About Artist Bob Diercksmeier:

Bob Diercksmeier is a Phoenix, Arizona native and a 1988 graduate of The University of the Arts in Philadelphia (BFA Illustration). In 2018 Bob expanded his subject matter to include a more abstract representation of the landscape, including different interpretations of various cacti (bdabstracts.com). In 2020 he began a series of pieces that were a notable departure from his landscape-oriented work. Nature Photography Fights Impacts of Stress, Stay at Home Order, Too Much Tech

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Founded by Uber alums Jason and Diana Liles, New American Fine Art aims to bring the restorative qualities of the great outdoors to overworked employees and cooped up quarantiners around the globe. The online photography gallery - launching Aug. 24, 2020 - will feature ultra-high-resolution images captured on their year-long sabbatical from the fast-paced tech world.

Their offering includes inspiring landscapes from the Swiss Alps to the California Coast, and - thanks to a proprietary iridium infused print process - the acrylic facemount prints are lifelike, luminous, and richly detailed.

As mental health researchers have often posited, the Lileses believe in the power of nature to relieve stress and restore balance - something that inspired their post-Uber immersion in gorgeous locales around the world. While international travel might feel like a luxury of the past, New American Fine Art hopes to bring the essence of the outdoors into homes and offices when it's needed most.

"Looking at ultra-high-resolution nature prints for five minutes a day can help boost your mood and bounce back from stress, which we could all use right now," says Diana. "We know for many people, it is difficult to get outside right now, and maintaining a good mental state is crucial to your immune system. We hope that our collection can offer people a sense of relief and connection to nature while being cooped up indoors."

Mitigating the impacts of technology overload and stressful work environments is also a driver for husband and wife duo, who met while working at Uber.

"We want to create a product to help our former selves," says Jason. "That's where our idea of the company started." In the first year after leaving Uber, Jason took over 77,000 photos. New American Fine Art showcases the best of the couple's travels in high impact, large format prints.

With their online art gallery, the Lileses are applying their tech expertise to the world of art buying and selling, and helping art lovers around the world to bring a piece of nature indoors.

Ted Rigoni’s Oxidized! Exhibition opens at the Progress Gallery March 7 – 29, 2020

POMONA, Calif. -- The Progress Gallery, located at 300 S. Thomas St., Pomona, CA presents "Oxidized!" - a solo exhibit of art photographs of pigment on paper by artist Ted Rigoni. The Progress Gallery is open to the public from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday - Saturday and is celebrating this work with an Artist's Reception during the Artist Walk, on March 14, 2020 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The oxidized metals of the Mojave Desert Landscape - rusted cans, discarded bolts, 'gold mine' conveyor parts, spiraling culverts, and other metallic objects - seem annihilated by the gritty red rust of time. Yet these remnants have been born again as contemporary art photographs by Rigoni through selected light, edgy textures, and micro-details, to reveal the beautiful metals that supported desert pioneers as they pursued life, love, and riches in a hostile and unforgiving environment.

Abandonment is a common theme of America's West as places that once were, have become nonplaces, but at the same time places replete with nostalgic affections. Thus, Ted Rigoni titled his exhibit, Oxidized! to emphasize the rusty relationship we have with abandoned metals from our past - a distinct contrast with our shiny object culture of today. For a year plus, Ted explored the desert within the Mojave National Preserve, discovering metal artifacts that date back generations, each of them an Oxidized! (rusted) icon to the rugged miners, ranchers, railroaders, and itinerant explorers whose ghosts still linger in this land of creosote bushes, coyotes and sand.

A series of rusted bean cans cast a bronze, nostalgic glow, but no details to pinpoint a specific place or time. Grand scale photographs of small rusted bolts seem to vibrate with life on the Giclee prints and display as equals to images of gigantic metal culverts and sinusoidal railroad tracks. Ted's art connects the small with the large, the very old to the just old- all of it through the magic of an uncommon desert light.

"During my desert wilderness explorations, I often shoot images that reach out to me before I have reached out to them," Rigoni says. "When I return to my digital darkroom, I focus on creating images that explore the role art photography plays in our psychic understanding of the specific places that spawned these abandoned metals."

Ted describes his work as semi-abstract, with a deep topographical connection to the details which express an emotional response to the "Oxidized!" elements.

Ted points out, "I often stack focus 50 images of the same piece to capture the minute detail with exquisite sharpness because my visual vocabulary includes the finite rust and all its pigment varieties. I want to extend the visual experience beyond documenting the abstract light, patterns, and textures, which naturally appear. I am interested in how the unconscious act of abandoning these metals is born again in our consciousness as art."

Ted Rigoni resides with his family in Tustin, California, is a professional sports photographer, retired County Road Division Manager, and has been engaged in fine art photography for the last four years. In addition to creating art photography projects, Ted is an associate art photography instructor for National Park Photography Expeditions.

Emily Silver’s ‘On the Mojave Road’ opens at the Desert Light Gallery – Sept. 6 to Dec. 31, 2019

KELSO, Calif. -- The Desert Light Gallery, located at the Mojave National Preserve's Kelso Depot Visitors Center presents "On the Mojave Road," a solo exhibit of paintings in watercolor on paper by nationally celebrated painter and National Park Service Artist in Residence, Emily Silver. The Visitors Center is at 90942 Kelso Cima Rd, Kelso, CA 92309 and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday - Monday.

Inspiration for Emily's Residency and her captivating exhibit of 22 paintings came from Emily's long walks on portions of the Mojave Road, which has been described by Desert Journalist Len Wilcox as a place where the "uncommonly beautiful" meets a "peculiar form of hell." Silver hiked 92 miles (out and back) of the Mojave Road's rutted dirt tracks in 3 - 4 mile stretches.

"Walking," she says, "provides an opportunity to slow down and experience first hand the qualities that imbue this route with its powerful presence."

Raised in a family of geologists and artists whose ancestors took part in the settling and mapping of the American West, Emily developed a deep affinity for its geography, cultural history, and the history of migrations, which drives her walking and painting practices. "During my walk, I create plein-air sketches and makes notes, which I use when I return to the studio. I focus on creating paintings that investigate the role painting plays in our psychic understanding of specific places, as well as the inverse: the idea that our relationship with land influences the process of painting."

She describes her work as abstract, with a deep topographical connection based upon maps, and her paintings express an emotional response that captures the mystical and spiritual values of Mojave National Preserve. Emily points out, "My visual vocabulary includes flows and aggregates of watercolor, pigment, salts, and sediments, geometric patterns suggesting temple floors and cracked mud, and relics of native textural materials. These are often superimposed over cartographic skeletons derived from satellite photos and digital maps. I'm interested in documenting abstract sensations such as light, ghosts, patterns and textures, silence, aridity, and gravity, as well as the emotions, associated with specific locales."

"On the Mojave Road" is engaging and deeply revealing collection of paintings that examine the mystery and contradictions involved in making art about the Mojave Desert. Each work builds upon another, and as you tour the exhibit, you may find yourself with new ways of exploring Mojave National Preserve places.

Emily Silver resides in Ferndale, Calif. After acquiring a degree from Stanford in Visual Design, she began painting seriously in the 1980s, eventually earning an MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007. Her work has enjoyed wide critical acclaim with numerous solo and group exhibits. Individuals and institutions collect her work, and she has been featured in numerous art publications.

Emily recently retired from the faculty of College of the Redwoods, after a 40-year career teaching art to college students, Nevada schoolchildren, and inmates in prison art programs in Washington, Nevada, and California. You can see more of her work at: http://www.emilysilver.com/

SOHO Gallery Cafe Seeks to Create Inclusive, Welcoming Community for NYC, International Artists

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- A new art-inspired cafe is taking residence in New York City's SoHo neighborhood. By Name, a multi-purpose space located at 324 Bowery, is opening on June 5, 2019 with the goal of creating a contemporary art space for the community of local and international emerging artists contributing to the vibrancy of New York and beyond.

The space promotes dialogue with fresh artists and supports the introduction of dynamic and culturally relevant work to the existing art world.

"We aim to stand out from your typical cafe. By Name will incorporate different concepts - art, food, drink - to break the norm of viewing art in traditional venues such as a museum or formal gallery," said owner and artist Junyan Hou. We want to blend that experience with the other senses like touch, taste, sight, scent, allowing our customers to be refreshed and inspired upon every visit."

Hou is a native of China whose path to creative fulfillment led him to New York. Now, he, along with co-owners Shuyu Niu and Linna Wang, want guests at By Name to have a memorable experience that connects them to the artists featured in the space.

"By Name is for all ages and all backgrounds," Hou continued. This is a place for people to relax and take in art the way it was intended to be seen, all while cultivating an environment for creation, collaboration, and performance. We will be happy to offer a wide variety of tea products and select sandwich items to our guests."

"A visitor to By Name is immediately struck by the quality of the interior architecture and fine craftsmanship of the new counters, incidental furniture and displays. And just look at the floor!" said Grahame Weinbren, a pioneer of interactive cinema, who currently serves as the senior editor of the Millennium Film Journal and teaches at the School of Visual Arts in New York. "This is a classy little gallery and coffee shop, very welcome on the Bowery where new spaces often seem to be carelessly assembled from discarded office scraps found on the street. By Name, in contrast, is here to stay. The art in the first show is unique, tasteful, and beautifully hung. Visitors to the nearby New Museum and ICP will be charmed."

Equally important, the unique fusion of gallery space and tea house is dedicated to offering a fresh way to enjoy the visual experience. The minimalist-style cafe will officially debut with a Grand Opening on Wednesday, June 5, featuring an art show called "The Present," with five artists - Yi Chen, Hao Chen, Junyan Hou, Brett Henrikson, and Jonathan Ellis showcasing their work from photography, multi-media art, and sculpturing. This exhibition will run at By Name until Sunday, June 16.

Ken Kobland, a Bronx native who has produced independent film, video, and art works since the early 1970's, agreed with Weinbren's assessment of By Name.

"I really enjoyed my first glimpse of the cafe and gallery. It's a small lovely space with a grand idea for looking at art and having a cup of tea," Kobland said. "I must say, my being a long-time resident of the Bowery and having watched it lose much of its individual creativity, I really welcome a place like this which has its own unique character. May it prosper."

For more information as By Name prepares to open its doors for the first time, visit the cafe at https://www.byname.nyc/.

Buckhead Art and Company Announces That It Has Recently Received Two Original Joey Waldon Pieces of Art for Sale

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Buckhead Art & Company Inc., has recently acquired an offering of two (2) original Joey Waldon pieces from an anonymous private collector. A prolific painter and sculptor, Waldon rarely sold his art, preferring to fill the walls of his home from floor to ceiling with his dark, yet whimsical surrealism.

The pieces that have made it into circulation were mostly to artists, comedians and musicians who Joey befriended with his unbridled blend of humor, intellect and spirituality.

"Red Derriere" is a one-of-a-kind variation on Joey's "Red Ass" series of irreverent sock monkeys. Year 1999. Price: $57,000.

"Stained Glass Butterfly" is an early representation from his butterfly series. It is painted on wood that Waldon sculpted himself. Year 2000. Price: $27,000.

These could be the only two paintings available for sale on the market today, of Joey Walton's. Both are in mint condition and are priced to sell.

Katie Jones, owner of Buckhead Art & Company said: "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be possibly the only Art Gallery in the United States to have Joey Waldon's original art for sale."

Buckhead Art & Company, is a premier art gallery located within the Shops of Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia.

Joey Waldon, born December 1, 1955, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Mothers Day, 2013. His early career was filled with success in syndicated single panel cartoons including the Texas icon Bubba 'n' Spot and commercial illustration endeavors. After discovering mind-altering substances, he began exploring the signature, beloved style that would characterize the bulk of his work.
