BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Today, pianist and producer Elijah Fox welcomes musicians into his exciting new course with online music education hub Soundfly. In it Elijah explores his singular approach to writing, improvising, and producing the "Impressionist" music for which he's become widely known; a style that has hypnotized fans around the world, been championed by collaborators like Yussef Dayes, Tom Misch, and Kiefer, and become the foundation for Drake & 21 Savage's hit "Major Distribution."

"Elijah Fox: Impressionist Piano & Production" is available now in Soundfly's growing curriculum of creative music courses and peer learning programs.

Watching Elijah Fox's Instagram feed, you're likely to see something new everyday. From silky R&B tracks and spacey synth jams to old-timey piano covers and soulful improvisations, Elijah's talent spans genres and styles, yet all of his music is imbued with a single unifying element: Impressionism. For Elijah, that means striving to make every moment evoke powerful emotional reactions in his listener, while remaining open to pensive wandering.

Throughout this course, Elijah takes students through his process of composing, improvising, and producing this deeply touching music, as well his modular approach to practicing which ensures a constant flow of new ideas and patterns. Elijah also shares his philosophies and perspectives on modern harmony, orchestration, and beat making. Students will up their skills on the piano and build new loops and tracks inspired by Elijah's guidance.

A multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer based in Los Angeles, Elijah Fox studied piano at the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory. Inspired by jazz greats like Art Tatum, Ahmad Jamal, and Erroll Garner, his modern sound blends elements of jazz, R&B, and psychedelic soul, and his samples span genres like lo-fi hip-hop, neo-soul, and trap. He's worked with ScHoolboy Q, Masego, Tom Misch, Yussef Days, Denzel Curry, Kiefer, among many others, and his original music under the alias Søren Søstrom has amassed over 16 million streams on Spotify.

To the future students, Elijah declares: "I've gained so much joy from playing the piano - and I hope to inspire you to find some of that as well."

"Elijah Fox: Impressionist Piano & Production" features 70 lessons, over 40 videos, and 22 challenges to keep students on their toes creatively and hold them accountable to achieving their learning goals. Accented with gorgeous graphic design, downloadable MIDI, audio, and musical scores, and an elevated user experience, this course comes loaded with Elijah's 21st century harmonic concepts, practice prompts, and production activities. EOarts Brings Together Extraordinary International Talents From Different Creative Industries For A Show In Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- On March 18, 2023, The Espejo Organization for the Arts (EOarts) will present THE EXTRAORDINARIES, an exhibition that brings together some of the best foreign-born talents working in the American creative industry. "The goal of the show is to highlight the quality and innovation that imported talent brings to the cultural and creative landscape of the US," said Kika Espejo, Director of EOarts.

The show, which takes its title from the denomination of the visa and permanent resident status awarded to professionals of extraordinary ability in the field of the arts, includes an array of creative practices from immigrant artists from all over the world.

"Creatives who have obtained Extraordinary Ability immigration statuses have demonstrated their original contribution to their field but don't often get much visibility, nor does the wide public recognize what an important role imported talent plays in the development of our country's creative industry," Espejo explains.

This show presents a survey of the works that a selection of these professionals are currently developing, bringing together creators of many different industries to promote and bring awareness to the significance that immigrant talents play in the development of the American cultural field.

The show will count on the participation of accomplished and award-winning international artists and creative professionals. In the area of visual arts, the exhibition will present the works of Brazilian painter and illustrator Niege Borges, Japanese sand artist Naoshi, Lebanese mix media artist Hildos, Hongkongese artist and milliner Penny Chu, Iranian Illustrator Elham Ataeiazar, and Spanish painters Amaia Marzabal and Aida Miro. Macedonian visual artist Mensur Bojda, Ukranian surface and texture artist Maksym Kazarin, and Indian multidisciplinary artist Kuldeep Singh are also taking part in this show.

In the area of photography, the show will include three distinguished professionals, including the fashion and documentary photographer from Sweden, Izabella Demavlys, the Canadian fine art and wedding photographer Erica Reade, and the boudoir and fine arts photographer from Mexico, Gaspar Marquez, who is also involved in the production of the show.

Additionally, the event will include the works of exceptional creatives in the field of design, such as English graphic designer Crissy Bogusz, Chilean art director Nicolas Mardones, Indian urban designer Uttara Ramakrishnan, Spanish architectural designer Ana Avanzini, and the Czech 3D designers Johana & Maxim Kroft. In the area of fashion, the show will also count on the works of Chinese creative director Churou Wang, Japanese costume designer Saori Mitome, and Chinese bespoke tailor and designer Yuecen Cai.

Adding to the exhibition and organized with the support of Brazilian producer Roberta Fernandes, the event will also host two special performances and presentations. Spanish actor and producer Edu Diaz will present an excerpt from his successful play Fantastic Mr. S, recently presented at the United Solo Festival. The Brazilian editor and astrologist, Larissa Xavier, will also participate in the show with a presentation of her collaborative project "New York Women & The Zodiac."

"THE EXTRAORDINARIES is a one-of-its-kind event that intends to go beyond the mere experience of a traditional art show. Multidisciplinary shows have the ability to bring together works from many fields into a conversation, allowing not only to create intrinsic connections between pieces but to generate narratives that expand beyond the borders of each medium," says Colombian Guest Curator Julian Montenegro.

The exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, March 18, 2023, between 6:30 and 8:30 pm, at Meadow Studios (35 Meadow Street) in Brooklyn.

The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Ben Weinman Has a New Course on How to Make a Living in Art Without Making Compromises

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Online music learning platform Soundfly has released a brand new course with Ben Weinman, guitarist, songwriter, and founding member of The Dillinger Escape Plan, on the business of making art without compromising one's values or integrity. The Business of Uncompromising Art is a course like no other, and musicians of all types can find it today in Soundly's digital library of creative music courses.

There are a million music business courses out there, but we dare you to find another that teaches you how to blow fire in a fan's face and still get paid for it. In fact, Ben argues that's part of what made his legendary band so successful for so long: authenticity, risk-taking, an obsessive focus on fans, and an unwavering DIY ethos. This comprehensive course - filled with case studies, challenges, stories, advice, and lessons culled from Ben's 20+ year career in music - will change the way independent artists view their mission.

Named one of SPIN's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and one of "the 20 Most Influential Metal Guitarists of the Modern Era" by VH1, Ben Weinman is a founding member of The Dillinger Escape Plan, a guitarist in Suicidal Tendencies and Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, a songwriter, composer, and manager. Having performed with NIN, System of a Down, Soundgarden, and The Prodigy, written music for HBO, voted for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and consulted for Grammy-winning artists, Ben's crept into every corner of the music industry - and found success in each.

In his course, he'll explain how he took what many called an "unmarketable" band and transformed it into an iconic act and a profitable economic engine with a rabid fanbase - along the way elucidating how to attract a passionate fanbase, deliver honest art, and design creative strategies for making money in an industry plagued by old, tired models. In Ben's own words, you'll learn: "How to stick to your guns, follow your values, create uncompromising art, and then sell that uncompromising art in a way that doesn't suck the life out of you."

The Business of Uncompromising Art features over 35 lessons loaded with invaluable advice and strategic information, and 25 videos, plus graphics, activities, downloadable learning materials, and access to Soundfly's Discord community where students can ask questions and get feedback on their work.

The Pocket Queen Launches a Uniquely Modern Drumming, Production, and Branding Course on Soundfly

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Soundfly's newest online course, "The Pocket Queen: Moving at Your Own Tempo," is out today as part of the platform's digital subscription library. This course, led by drummer, producer, and viral content creator, Taylor Gordon, aka The Pocket Queen, teaches modern rhythm and drumming concepts and music production, as well as strategies for finding one's authentic creative self.

PQ has lit up social media with unique content that showcase her infectious swagger and positivity, rhythmic precision, and enthusiastic willingness to learn in public. It's that balance of confidence, curiosity, and vulnerability that has captured the attention of thousands of musicians and inspired many to push their skills forward through difficult moments.

The New Orleans native initially gained popularity creating drumming videos on YouTube in the rehearsal rooms at Berklee College of Music. Over time, PQ earned opportunities to perform in Beyoncé's Super Bowl Halftime marching band; drum and tour with Adam Lambert, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, and Alicia Keys; produce tracks for Chris Brown, Jennifer Hudson, and Luke James; licensed her self-produced debut single "We Came To Move" to Apple for the iPad mini launch campaign; and become Grammy® Nominated for her work with Kehlani.

Drawing from these successes, The Pocket Queen's new online course cracks open the drumming techniques she draws on to build tight, funky grooves, her unique employment of "pocket" and how to craft one's own relationship to this concept, and the methodologies she uses to produce rhythmically-driven music. But this course isn't only for drummers. She speaks directly to creators of all kinds, offering tools to conquer fear and lean into vulnerability, act with intention and purpose, and unlock one's authentic voice.

Speaking to what she hopes students will gain from this course, PQ declares, "You should gain a deeper understanding of yourself." The course starts with her artistic journey into drumming, but "benefits a variety of different creatives" as it strives to empower students to "dive deeper into their own identity," whether making music or building a brand.

"The Pocket Queen: Moving at Your Own Tempo" features over 40 videos across more than 70 lessons, including breakdowns and demos, activities, downloadable graphics and learning materials, and access to Soundfly's exclusive Discord community where students can ask questions and get feedback on their work.

Ryan Lott of Son Lux Unveils His Secrets for Making Evocative Music with Unplaceable Sounds

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Online music school Soundfly has joined forces with Son Lux founder and bandleader, Ryan Lott, to release a new, in-depth course exploring Lott's unique approach to making emotionally compelling music by starting with custom-built digital instruments. "Ryan Lott: Designing Sample-Based Instruments" is available today as part of Soundly's subscription library of creative music courses.

Fresh off the release of his widely-acclaimed score for the A24 hit "Everything Everywhere All at Once" (composed in collaboration with his Son Lux bandmates), Lott opens up about how he achieves his "otherworldly" sonic signature by building and altering digital instruments to create music driven by unplaceable sounds.

In his first-ever online course, Lott explores the techniques he uses to identify sounds that will make compelling digital instruments, recording and processing those sounds to their fullest effect, and transforming them into a custom virtual instrument using a digital audio workstation, Native Instruments' Kontakt, and a MIDI keyboard.

Lott uses these instruments as creative catalysts - beginning songwriting projects with an intriguing sound, rather than a traditional melody, harmony, riff, or groove. Students will learn not only the technical elements of building instruments, but also how to radically transform their compositional process with a new source of inspiration and approach to writing and arranging.

Lott is a frequently sought-after collaborator, in part for how he uses the interplay of familiar and novel sounds to evoke intense emotion in audiences. He has worked with new music ensembles including Grammy winners Eighth Blackbird, Third Coast Percussion, and yMusic, as well as with dance companies and choreographers Stephen Petronio, Travis Wall, Gina Gabney, Jodie Gates, Ballet de Lorraine, Ballet X, and the National Dance Company of Wales. His work on feature film scores includes "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby" and "Looper," among others. Pitchfork recently called Son Lux's score for "Everything Everywhere All at Once" "a total achievement in ingenuity."

Ryan expressed his enthusiasm for sharing the techniques in the course, saying, "When you can design your own sounds from the ground up, you're unlocking this entirely new potential for a way forward. I hope folks come away with a new set of skills that will continually bring a new creativity to their music."

"Ryan Lott: Designing Sample-Based Instruments" features 40 videos and more than 70 lessons, as well as graphics, demos, activities, downloadable learning materials, samples, and access to Soundfly's Slack community where students can ask questions and get feedback on their work.

Soundfly Debuts New Course with Synthwave and Electronic Music Icon Com Truise

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Online music school Soundfly has teamed up with dynamic producer Seth Haley, more popularly known as Com Truise, to release a new course on creating sci-fi-inspired electronic music. "Com Truise: Mid-Fi Synthwave Slow-Motion Funk" is available today as part of Soundfly's premium course subscription program, where students get unlimited access to a full library of creative music courses.

Haley opens up his creative process, starting with the sparks of inspiration he finds in retrofuturistic storylines, like the sweeping android astronaut narrative that's driven many of his albums. And he demonstrates the techniques he uses to pull a track together, building synth patches, sampling retro drum machine sounds, and leveraging '80s production techniques to create music that feels both nostalgic and novel.

Students will look inside the sessions of some of Com Truise's biggest hits, and follow along as he creates a brand new track from scratch. The unreleased song, "Dynetics" is available exclusively to Soundfly subscribers.

The course features more than 30 videos, as well as readings, downloads, stems, and more, and subscribers get access to Soundfly's Slack community of instructors, artists, and experts, where they can ask questions and get feedback on their work.

Heard most recently in his Super Bowl commercial with Coinbase, Com Truise has released three full-length albums, four EPs, and two compilations with famed electronic indie label Ghostly International. He's also done remixes for Daft Punk, Maroon 5, Tycho, deadmau5, and Neon Indian, among others.

"Com Truise's music is full of powerful contradictions - ambient textures with driving beats, vintage synths composing modern-sounding melodies, '80s production techniques but with all the power of the modern DAW," said Soundfly CEO Ian Temple. "The thing I've loved most about seeing inside his process is learning how to create entire worlds with your music, almost like you're making a film rather than a song. I'm so excited for the sounds that our students are going to be able to unlock within themselves after taking the course."

"I've stumbled across so many tutorials on YouTube of people trying to recreate my sounds over the years, and my reaction to that used to be to hold my techniques as closely guarded secrets," said Haley. "But I was never classically trained, and I had to figure out so much of what I do on my own. And so I think it's finally time to pass the torch to anyone who's willing to learn, and I hope other artists are able to take inspiration from the way I make music."

"Com Truise: Mid-Fi Synthwave Slow-Motion Funk" is available now and can be previewed for free at: https://soundfly.com/comtruise

Experimental producer Jlin releases new course on rhythm and creativity with online music school Soundfly

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Music education platform Soundfly and experimental producer and composer Jlin have teamed up to launch an online course covering Jlin's artistic process and approach to creating groundbreaking rhythmic music. Jerrilynn Patton, who performs as Jlin, came up through the Midwest's footwork scene, and has evolved into one of the most innovative electronic producers working today. "Jlin: Rhythm, Variation, & Vulnerability" is available as part of Soundfly's subscription library of creative music courses. The course provides an inspiring look at how Jlin thinks about music production and seeks to help upcoming artists pinpoint and nurture the unique elements in their own sound.

Jlin is a constantly-transforming electronic artist whose work carries a complex, unpredictable rhythmic signature. Music publication Pitchfork has called Jlin's work "a gorgeous and overwhelming piece of musical architecture, an epic treatise on where rhythm comes from and where it can go," and Spin magazine described it as "the future of progressive club music."

Pitchfork has put all three of her full-length releases on their Best New Music and Best Electronic Music lists. Jlin's collaborators include musical artists Björk, St. Vincent, Martin Gore, Max Richter, choreographer Wayne MacGregor, and many more. Her driving, percussive music is used extensively for dance and fashion, with placements in Paris Fashion Week shows for Rick Owens, Chanel, Burberry, and Adidas.

"Jlin: Rhythm, Variation, & Vulnerability" features 16 videos, along with readings, practical exercises, creative prompts, and a Slack group for feedback and support. The course takes a high-level look at the role that vulnerability plays in Jlin's music-making and how embracing difficult creative moments can fuel originality. Students will come away with a more profound understanding of rhythmic variation and the inspiration to make their own music less predictable.

Soundfly CEO Ian Temple said of making the course, "Jlin's mindset and approach are unlike any we've presented on Soundfly before. Her process is deeply vulnerable and painstakingly precise, which leads to a sound that's brimming with complex ideas. I hope students will walk away with a new perspective on how to keep their music fresh and surprising."

Describing her intention behind the course, Jlin said, "I want to share my journey with other artists as honestly as I can. I see the hurdles you encounter in making music as some of the most important parts of the process. I think it's crucial to share that struggle. In this course, I'm exploring my process as vulnerably as I can. I hope that something in my journey helps other artists in their own."

Koala Has Best Year in Platform History While Bringing a Premium Ordering Experience to Restaurant Brands Nationwide

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Throughout the year, attitudes towards ordering styles changed, and Koala supported leading restaurant brands as they navigated the various waves of consumer preferences and COVID-19, offering a seamless user experience that provides comprehensive management capabilities for clients - leading to Koala's highest growth year netting 2.8x year-over-year transaction growth.

Koala is an industry-leading platform that creates premium, customizable apps and websites for restaurants, and launched its platform against the backdrop of the restaurant tech evolution.

Democratizing Technology

As COVID-19 changed customers' ordering preferences, Koala knew the importance of expanding access to premium technology for brands. As restaurants were forced in and out of lockdowns, brands needed to adjust to different ordering styles - online ordering or app ordering for takeout, delivery, and pickup. Restaurants that had this technology in place were able to weather the storm, and restaurants without it had a much harder time. Koala can have a customized online ordering website or app ready to launch in weeks and at a reasonable cost, compared to its competitors.

"Tech is an ever-changing requirement. With the added challenges of COVID-19, our organization remained steadfast to helping our brands maintain the valuable connections they have established with their customers and the ease of ordering that guests have come to expect in these times," said Brett Spiegel, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Koala. "Restaurant playbooks are changing, and with our fully scalable platform, brands are seeing larger increases in check sizes and conversions."

A Full Digital Ecosystem

Highlights for Koala in 2021 include the launch of their iPhone app, with MOD Pizza and Capital Taco. The app enables brands to make changes to layouts, styles, and key features via the cloud, eliminating the lengthy app submission process for updates. In addition, the app promotes dynamic cross-sell product recommendations.

The company continued improving its products, releasing more than 200 updates throughout the year, including QR code ordering, advanced delivery search, ghost kitchen support, and pickup via curbside and drive-thru.

The tech company also grew its portfolio by onboarding new brands, including TGI Fridays, Dave's Hot Chicken, Capriotti's, Macaroni Grill, Happy + Hale, and several more.

Koala supported more than 4,000 restaurant locations nationwide. For the calendar year 2021, Koala also added new integration partners and nearly doubled its team size.

"We are looking forward to maintaining the momentum we've built this year and forging into 2022 with our sights on more growth opportunities for our customers and their guests," added Spiegel.

About Koala

Founded in 2019, Koala is an industry-leading platform that creates premium, customizable apps for restaurants to offer digital ordering. Every restaurant deserves a premium experience, and Koala provides that experience for more than 4,000 restaurant locations nationwide. Digital orders with Koala lead to higher conversion rates than a white-label solution and an increase of up to 20% in average order value.

Online music school Soundfly and Grammy-winning artist Kiefer team up on innovative piano course

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Award-winning pianist and producer Kiefer and online music school Soundfly have developed a comprehensive new piano course that bridges the world of jazz and hip-hop. Kiefer: Keys, Chords, and Beats is available today in Soundfly's subscription library of creative music courses and offers an in-depth look inside Kiefer's creative process, giving students the tools to transform their own piano skills.

Kiefer Shackelford (who performs as Kiefer) is part of a new vanguard of progressive musicians, pairing deep instrumental skill with an electronic sound and hip-hop beats. In 2018, Kiefer joined legendary music label Stones Throw Records, home to such hip-hop heavyweights as J Dilla, Madlib, and MF Doom, as well as Kiefer's collaborators Mndsgn, DJ Harrison, and Knxwledge. Kiefer won a Grammy(R) in 2020 for his production work on Anderson .Paak's "Ventura."

The launch of his new course comes as he wraps up a North American tour in support of his latest album, "When There's Love Around."

Kiefer: Keys, Chords, and Beats features over 40 videos of Kiefer as he walks students through his artistic and technical approach to a series of creative challenges on keyboard and piano. Students will learn how to craft sophisticated chord progressions, write and harmonize melodies, develop their improvisational skills, and bring full, piano-based tracks together with beats and electronic elements. The course features 57 lessons made up of readings, audio examples, downloads, sheet music, activities, writing prompts, and much more.

Soundfly CEO Ian Temple said of making the course, "This is the kind of course I dreamed of one day making when we were starting Soundfly. I've never encountered an instructor who has inspired my own piano playing more than Kiefer has over the time we've spent making the course. I know that this course is going to be a game-changer for both pianists and producers."

A seasoned instructor, Kiefer has taught over Twitch and through private master classes for many years, but this is the first time he's putting his approach to music making together into an overarching course. Describing his motivation for filming a course, Kiefer said, "A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that great musicians were just born different or that they have access to some sort of divine inspiration. But over the past 10 years, I've learned so much that has changed that idea for me and taught me that anything can be learned. Anything can be studied. Anything can be improved. And those are the lessons that I've put into this course."

Sampling innovator RJD2 and online music school Soundfly team up to release transformative new course on sampling and arranging

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Instrumental hip-hop producer RJD2 has launched his first online course, made in partnership with music education platform Soundfly. This in-depth course guides students through RJD2's unique approach to chopping and flipping records, and how he arranges samples into fully realized songs.

Known for his groundbreaking albums including "Deadringer" and "Since We Last Spoke," as well as for composing the theme song to AMC's "Mad Men," Ramble Jon Krohn has long been heralded as one of the pioneers of instrumental beat making, helping to bring the art of sampling to new genres and audiences.

In his course, "RJD2: From Samples to Songs," RJD2 opens up his creative process - sharing his perspectives on crate digging, listening, and finding samples, and walking students through the process of turning chops and loops into sequences, and arranging those parts into thoughtful, dynamic tracks. He demonstrates how he works with the AKAI MPC2000XL and how to achieve similar effects in the DAW. And he opens up the Pro Tools sessions of some of his most iconic tracks, including 'Smoke and Mirrors' and 'Let There Be Horns,' going into elaborate detail about how the songs came together.

"RJD2: From Samples to Songs" features over 35 videos, filmed in RJD2's home studio, as well as readings, downloadable tracks, creative prompts, and access to Soundfly's online Slack community where students get feedback on their work. It joins Soundfly's extensive subscription library of creative music courses for both amateur and professional-level musicians.

"I think one of the most common obstacles that artists fall prey to is being too delicate with their own music. I hope that one of the things I can do with this course is to provide the encouragement for students to think big, be bold, and be drastic when it comes to their recordings. I'd encourage students to find that boundary at which they might think something is 'acceptable' and blow right through it," said RJD2 about the inspiration behind the material. "By the end of the course, I hope you're excited to sit down and make music."

"Creating this course has changed the way I think about the building blocks of music," said Soundfly CEO Ian Temple. "I've shifted from focusing on notes and pitches to considering music to be chunks of manipulable sound. It's been a fascinating change of perspective and I'm excited for the music it inspires in our students."
