PASADENA, Calif. -- Last year, specialty tax incentive firm KBKG joined the Real Estate Roundtable (RER), and several of KBKG's executive leadership team currently serve as members of the organization's President's Council, Associate Council, and Committees. RER's mission is to bring together leaders of the nation's top, publicly held and privately-owned firms with major national real estate industry trade associations to jointly address important national policy issues relating to real estate and its role in the global economy.

As members, KBKG has been able to participate in policy debates and advancing industry endorsed solutions to policy questions.

Principal and practice leader, CJ Aberin, is a member of RER's President's Council which is comprised of individuals from leading real estate ownership, financial, management, and advisory firms. Additionally, he is a member of both the Tax Policy Advisory Committee and the Sustainability Policy Advisory Committee and has actively provided input to both committees to improve tax policy on cost recovery and energy efficiency incentives for the commercial real estate industry.

Other members of KBKG's leadership team serving on RER committees include:
* Lou Guerrero (Tax Policy Advisory Committee)
* Brandon Val Verde (Sustainability Policy Advisory Committee)
* William Long (Real Estate Capital Policy Advisory Committee).

Earlier this year, Ryan McCormick, Senior Vice President & Counsel for Tax Policy at RER provided a legislative update on behalf of KBKG to inform tax practitioners and clients with an update as to what to expect from Capitol Hill over the year with possible timelines that are now coming into fruition.

"Over the last decade, I have had the privilege to use my voice to represent the real estate industry in the Capitol in collaboration with various organizations. Joining RER provides yet another opportunity to be a part of a larger conversation, represent the real estate community, and provide greater value for our clients," remarked CJ Aberin, Principal of KBKG.

John W. Hanning of KBKG Elected President of American Society of Cost Segregation Professionals

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Nationwide tax specialty firm KBKG announced that their Principal, John W. Hanning, was recently elected President (2019 - 2021) of the American Society of Cost Segregation Professionals' (ASCSP) Board of Directors.

Cost Segregation is a strategic tax planning tool commonly utilized in the real estate industry to accelerated depreciation deductions and increase cash flow. In order to claim the deduction, a third-party engineering firm must perform a study to review and analyze a building's structural components.

The ASCSP is a national organization founded in 2006 to address a growing need for credentials, technical standards, education, and a stringent code of ethics among cost segregation providers. The emergence of the ASCSP has given taxpayers an excellent way to make an informed decision about choosing a cost segregation provider through the identification of Certified Cost Segregation Professionals (CCSP), the highest credential in the cost segregation industry.

KBKG has a long history of support for the ASCSP. The firm's cost segregation engineers are expected to earn the ASCSP certification as they acquire the necessary experience and expertise in their careers.

"I am honored to have been elected by my peers at the American Society of Cost Segregation Professionals (ASCSP)," said John W. Hanning, CCSP, MBA. "The commitment to ethics and professionalism that ASCSP upholds is one that I am proud to support through this new leadership role. I look forward to the opportunity to serve and promote the benefits of using certified cost segregation professionals."

Hanning leads KBKG's Southeast practice comprised of a team of engineers and specialists based out of the firm's Atlanta office. As Principal, his primary responsibilities include assisting capital-intensive clients with value-added services relating to Cost Segregation, R&D Tax Credits, Green Building Tax Incentives, and more. Hanning began his service to the ASCSP as an active member of the Education Committee, where he co-authored the Senior Exam Study Guide in 2012. From 2017-2019, he served as treasurer on the Board of Directors.
