hampr Announces Last-Mile Delivery Healthcare Division, Presto Health

LAFAYETTE, La. -- hampr, a Lafayette, Louisiana-based start-up, announced a newly created healthcare division, Presto Health, today. Presto Health is a last-mile delivery platform built specifically for a variety of use cases in healthcare and will launch starting with prescription delivery.

"hampr started out by solving an issue that has previously plagued on-demand laundry apps," said Laurel Hess, founder and CEO of hampr. "We built an asset-light, ultra-scalable platform with profitable margins - something unheard of in this space. When we were approached by Lafayette General Health (LGH) to deliver prescriptions, we realized that what we actually built was a world-class, flexible last-mile delivery platform perfectly suited for a variety of use cases.

"We created a healthcare vertical for hampr called Presto Health which will start with prescription delivery from the new Lafayette General Medical Center retail pharmacy - but the possibilities are endless."

The opportunity for healthcare last-mile delivery extends beyond pharmacy delivery into phlebotomy, medical transportation, small durable medical equipment and more.

With direction and support from LGH, Presto Health will pilot the prescription delivery program out of Lafayette General Medical Center. Patients in the service area will have the option to have their medication delivered the same day following discharge from the hospital, a telemedicine visit, primary care visit, visit to the ER, urgent care or a clinic.

"Whenever we have the opportunity to support and springboard a local start-up, it's a win-win all around. We get to help shape and direct our delivery partner, improve the local economy with job creation and help Lafayette diversify further into the healthcare and technology industries," said Cian Robinson, Executive Director of Innovation, Research, and Real Estate Investments for Lafayette General Health Systems.

hampr and LGH are currently building out the pilot program which is expected to launch in Lafayette by the end of this year and expand into New Orleans by 2021.

hampr is currently in the middle of a fundraising round and open to interested investors.

Running Of The Bulls Only Sorta Canceled Due To Pandemic – 14th rendition of San Fermin in Nueva Orleans changes format, again

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Nola Bulls, LLC has found a way to carry on the fun of San Fermin in Nueva Orleans with an online gathering of amigos.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the uncertainty of legal gatherings of more than 10 people, the organizers and brain trust of San Fermin in Nueva Orleans have opted for an online fiesta. On Saturday July 11, 2020 all are invited to join the team as they present a way to revel with the friends they normally see each year, but cannot due to the virus.

Annually since 2007 people have come from around the globe to enjoy the company of friends and the gorings of our Virtual Bulls, aka RollerBulls(tm). The team had to be creative in order to bring the fun and festive feeling of SFNO to their loyal fans. Notify your friends and schedule a socially distant/approved way to join in.

Back in 2007 some friends dreamt up the idea of recreating the famous Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain by replacing the four-legged bovines with two-legged RollerBulls played by the Big Easy Rollergirls roller derby team. What has occurred since is nothing short of amazing. Each year hundreds of roller derby skaters (aka RollerBulls) from around the globe chase down and whoop willing runners through the streets of New Orleans. It's all part of a great three-day fiesta.

The three-day event that usually spans many blocks and venues in the city of New Orleans will be shortened to a few hours, but expanded to venues around the world. Entry to this virtual wonderland is available via www.nolabulls.com.

Look for performances from our beloved local groups and bands as well as some introductions to fans that come annually to enjoy our beloved city and this wacky fiesta.

Nola Bulls, LLC was founded in 2007 and is a provider and promoter of entertainment and cultural events in the New Orleans Area: Improving New Orleans one festival at a time. SFNO helps raise money for two local charities, visit https://www.bethsfriendsforever.org/ and http://bigeasyanimalrescue.org/ for info on these.

Growing Local Collaborative Increases Food Deliveries and Resources in NOLA Amid COVID-19 Outbreak

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Today, the various organizations that make up the Growing Local Collaborative - Recirculating Farms Coalition, Top Box Foods Louisiana, SPROUT NOLA, New Orleans Food Policy Advisory Committee, and Liberty's Kitchen - in partnership with Market Umbrella and the Crescent City Farmers Market, are ramping up efforts to keep New Orleans residents fed and healthy by organizing food distribution from farms to families and mapping important resources.

Connor DeLoach, Executive Director of Top Box Louisiana said, "It is even more important for people to have access to fresh food right now, as we all try to be healthy. That's why we are working with our Growing Local Collaborative partners and Crescent City Farmers Market to bring fresh local food from Louisiana farms right to people's homes."

Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, farmers markets closed to reduce potential for social contact, but people still want fresh local food. Crescent City Farmers Market and SPROUT NOLA worked together to get their growers online - posting profiles about farmers on websites and selling products that normally would be at the markets through a box delivery program with Top Box Foods Louisiana. All the staging and packing is happening at Liberty's Kitchen, which is currently suspending its other programs.

"Supporting our farmers is critical, so they are able to continue working and providing fresh food for us all," said Margee Green, Executive Director of SPROUT NOLA and organizer of the Monday ReFresh Farmers Market. "We are making sure fresh food doesn't go to waste, and it gets to people who want it, through RFC's Growing Local box and the new Crescent City Farmers Market box."

The Recirculating Farms Coalition runs Growing Local NOLA farms. Top Box has been delivering Local Garden Boxes for RFC for years, in neighborhoods with less access to fresh food, like Central City. The Growing Local boxes offers fruit, vegetables, herbs, eggs and a fun "lagniappe" item for smaller families for $15. The new Crescent City Farmers Market Box is $40 and offers bigger portions. This box is comprised of goods from CCFM vendors and qualifies for their Market Match program. Both boxes accept SNAP.

"Emergencies, like this pandemic, illustrate why having a stable local food system is critical," said Marianne Cufone, Executive Director for Recirculating Farms Coalition. "We are able to mobilize partners to offer fresh local food for a range of budgets and needs. We started our box to provide food in neighborhoods with low or no access to fresh, healthy options. Now, working with the CCFM farmers, we are expanding what we can offer - we doubled the number of boxes available this week!"

In addition to the boxes, the Collaborative is collecting information about other food resources in the city; NOLA FPAC is taking the lead. Their website lists assorted programs and has a map where children who usually have meals in schools can get grab and go food.

Elisa Munoz, Executive Director of NOLA FPAC said, "Food is a key part of who we are in New Orleans, and knowing where to access food can help us feel healthier and safer, both of which we need now. We want to offer a wide range of resources for our community."

The American Heart Association of Greater New Orleans and The Humana Foundation are supporting these programs with grants to scale up operations and pay farmers for food.

Dryades YMCA Partners with the Recirculating Farms Coalition

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Dryades YMCA is partnering with the Recirculating Farms Coalition (RFC), a sustainable farming and food justice advocacy organization. RFC will relocate its farm - Growing Local NOLA - to YMCA-owned land on Jackson Avenue, where it crosses Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard in Central City, just a few steps from the Dryades Y building.

"We've wanted a community garden for some time so that our Central City youth and neighbors can strengthen their sense of community, be more active, and ultimately access affordable fresh produce. This an ideal partnership - RFC has the skills and experience, and we have the space and opportunity to further our work to address youth food insecurity," said Alicia Oliver, Operations and Mission Advancement Director of the Dryades Y.

The new farm will provide fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and more for YMCA snacks and meals, classes and youth food pantry. RFC's team will also collaborate with YMCA staff on building a community green space with classes in gardening, health-supportive cooking and holistic wellness.

"We are so excited to be working with the Dryades YMCA," says Marianne Cufone, Executive Director of the Recirculating Farms Coalition. "This partnership will bring locally grown, healthy food to children through seniors in the YMCA programs and also offer a wide range of food and farm related classes and events to the Central City neighborhood and beyond."

Work on the new growing spaces is already underway with a Dow Promise grant and a donation of raised garden beds by Folgers Coffee. The organizations have volunteer days planned to help with preparing the site and planting. Classes and events should begin early in the new year.

Cabrini High School and the American Italian Cultural Center Co-hosts Fundraising Gala in Honor of Saint Frances Cabrini’s Contributions to New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The influence of Saint Frances Cabrini, the first American citizen Saint, and her Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart has been felt in New Orleans since 1892, when Mother Cabrini first arrived to help Italian immigrants. However, her work encompassed people from all sections and backgrounds of the city. Besides the daily work of helping the unfortunate, Saint Cabrini established two orphanages, the larger of which became Cabrini High School in 1959.

Mother Cabrini's commitment to helping all people in need was unrelenting. She founded 67 missions on three continents in 37 short years which included orphanages, schools and hospitals. Cabrini High School stands today as a testament to her vision: "to educate the minds and hearts" of the students. The school's award-winning college preparatory curriculum and staff encourages students of diverse races, creeds, nationalities, and socio-economic backgrounds to discover their God-given talents through a commitment to academic excellence, spiritual development, and social growth.

In conjunction with the celebration of Cabrini High School's 60th anniversary, the school has launched the "Continuing Her Legacy" capital campaign - the most determined fundraising effort in Cabrini's history. The gala will include Italian cuisine, live jazz entertainment, tours of the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Exhibit Room, St. Frances Cabrini's living quarters, and Sacred Heart Chapel where she prayed.

Mother Cabrini said, "The greatest heritage to a young girl is a good education." Funds raised during the event will be used for improvements to the school's campus to enhance the educational environment along with the creation of a Fine Arts Center.

The event will be attended by notable alumnae, donors, and guests. This year's sponsors include AICC, Diabetes Management & Supplies, Copeland's of Kenner, Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Cabrini Mission Foundation, Scriptura, Gulf Coast Bank & Trust, Drago's Restaurant and the Louisiana Seafood Marketing and Promotion Board.
