The TMS Collaborative Celebrates its 1st Anniversary and Announces Clinic Expansion

EXETER, N.H. -- In September 2019, Dr. Paul Belliveau and partners launched The TMS Collaborative as a way to bring the cutting-edge technology of TMS to New Hampshire and beyond. TMS therapy is an FDA-approved, safe, and non-invasive treatment for patients suffering from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).

The treatment consists of gentle pulses targeted at the areas of the brain that are known to be involved with depression. Approximately 40% of patients diagnosed with MDD experience little to no relief using antidepressants, and often experience a long list of side effects. TMS Therapy, however, has few known side effects, is covered by most insurance plans, and up to 60% of patients respond positively to treatment, while over half achieve a complete remission of their depression symptoms. Of the patients that The TMS Collaborative has treated this year, 80% have experienced improvement and relief from MDD.

Co-Founder and Medical Director of the TMS Collaborative, Paul Belliveau, MD, has been practicing in Exeter, NH for over 20 years and is Board-Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry. Prior to practicing in Exeter, Dr. Belliveau was a physician with the United States Army, and practiced at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

"We are pleased to be able to bring this FDA approved treatment to Seacoast New Hampshire and surrounding areas of New England. Our patients have responded well to TMS and have found relief from their depression when antidepressants were not working for them. I continue to be impressed at how effective TMS is for many people that have suffered with depression for years," says Belliveau.

A year in, and many patient success stories later, the TMS Collaborative is expanding. "We are excited to announce that we are moving to a larger location in December. Our new location at 9 Hampton Road in Exeter will allow us to add additional TMS treatment rooms to better serve patients," says Wayne Barrows, co-founder and Director of Provider Operations. The clinic will continue to treat patients at its Exeter, NH location leading up to the grand opening.

The TMS Collaborative is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and treatment of depression with TMS Therapy. The team at The TMS Collaborative brings over 25 years of experience in delivering the highest quality care in a welcoming clinical environment. Atlantic Coast Surgical Suites performs first navigated reverse total shoulder at an ambulatory surgery center in New England

SEABROOK, N.H. -- Atlantic Coast Surgical Suites is an ambulatory surgery center designed for, and specializing in, outpatient joint replacement surgery. Today, Dr. Moby Parsons of The Knee, Hip and Shoulder Center performed the first outpatient reverse shoulder replacement here using the Exactech GPS (Guided Personalized Surgery) preoperative planning and navigation system.

According to Parsons, "There are very few centers around the country offering surgical navigation for shoulder replacement at an outpatient surgery center. This is the first such case in New England."

Dr. Parsons is one of the design surgeons for the Exactech GPS system. A preoperative CT scan provides a detailed 3D picture of the patient's arthritic shoulder. Images are then imported into a planning software that allows the surgeon to virtually perform the operation, selecting the right implants and their optimal position and orientation relative to the patient's individual anatomy. This plan can then be taken into the operating room where special instruments with trackers synced to a computer and camera system allow real time navigation of the surgical plan.

"Arthritis causes wear and erosion of the socket bone. Our goal during surgery is to restore patient anatomy as best we can. Planning and navigation substantially improve our accuracy compared to conventional instruments," Parsons notes.

Parsons, along with several other design surgeons and engineers, has done extensive research and development on surgical navigation in shoulder replacement and has been using this technology for almost 2 years since it became commercially available. Parsons was also the first surgeon in New Hampshire to perform a reverse shoulder replacement in 2004 and was recently inducted into the American Shoulder and Elbow surgeons, recognizing his expertise in shoulder surgery.

Advances in patient preparation, pain management, anesthetic techniques and surgical techniques now allow many patients to go home the same day as their joint replacement surgery. "Recovery in the comfort of home is both safe and highly satisfying for patients," Parsons notes.

"Our ambulatory surgery center specializes in orthopedic procedures with a highly dedicated staff who focus on same-day care day in and day out. Experience and expertise really matter to do this well. We are extremely fortunate to have a center like Atlantic Coast Surgical Suites where we can deliver high quality outpatient joint replacement."

Local Orthopaedic Surgeon to Discuss Advancements in Shoulder Replacement on the World Stage

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Dr. Moby Parsons, a joint replacement specialist at the Knee, Hip and Shoulder Center in Portsmouth, N.H., helped to pioneer a surgical navigation tool that is now being widely used around the world to improve the results of shoulder replacement. Termed GPS for Guided Personalized Surgery, this technology allows the shoulder surgeon to preoperatively plan the operation on a computer system and then recreate that plan with great accuracy using intelligent surgical instruments that can link the patient's anatomy to the preoperative imaging.

The shoulder is a highly complex joint that undergoes wear and erosion from arthritis and tendon tears. Prior studies have demonstrated that when surgeons can better recreate a patient's native anatomy during reconstructive surgery, outcomes are improved in terms of range of motion, function and implant longevity.

"GPS effectively gives us 3-dimensional, x-ray vision and greatly improves our ability to restore normal anatomy," said Parsons, who has worked extensively with Exactech, Inc. in Gainesville, Fla. to bring this technology into the operating room.

Parsons, along with an international team of surgeons and engineers, helped to develop and validate the GPS system. Recently Parsons has worked with his team to research and refine standards in the preoperative planning process that may lead to better shoulder function, lower complications and improved implant durability.

"Comparing the way different surgeons approach the same case reveals that there is currently a lack on consensus about what is the ideal reconstruction for any given shoulder," Parsons notes. His research aims to narrow the range of acceptable solutions to achieve greater precision during shoulder replacement.

Parsons' research was recently selected for presentation at the International Congress for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery this September in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Hosted every 3 years, this is the largest gathering of shoulder experts in the world and provides an international stage for the team's work. "The acceptance of our study points to the widespread interest that surgeons have in these enabling technologies. We are honored to present our results and hope we can translate this work into improved standards for shoulder replacement in the future."

Parsons and the GPS Design Team continue to advance the capabilities of this system through ongoing research and development. "We have made a substantial leap forward over the last 3 years, but there is much left to learn and a tremendous opportunity to leverage technological innovations in the operating environment for the benefit of better surgical results."

Dr. Parsons performed a fellowship in shoulder surgery under famed, shoulder replacement pioneer Dr. Frederick Matsen. He is a founding member of the New England Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons where he recently hosted a panel discussion on computer-assisted preoperative planning. He is also a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. His prior research has won the prestigious Charles Neer Award for excellence in clinical outcomes studies. He will also be presenting results of clinical research on the reverse shoulder replacement at this year's American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting in Las Vegas, Nev.

He currently operates at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, N.H., Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H. and Atlantic Coast Surgical Suites in Seabrook, N.H.

Aubade Publishing to Release Three Books in Late Summer 2018

NASHUA, N.H. -- This summer, Aubade Publishing is scheduled to release three books: "Sadie in Love" (ISBN: 978-0984549412), a novel by Rochelle Distelheim; "Paricutin: The Miracle of Daniel Pulido" (ISBN: 978-0984549436), a novel by Jerome John Dobson; and "The Annotated Murder of One" (ISBN: 978-0984549450), a collection of poems by Jared Pearce.

These three debut authors and their works were selected for publication in response to a call for manuscripts from the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) in March 2017.

"We're thrilled to work with these talented writers," Joe Puckett, author and co-founder of Aubade Publishing, says. "We're a niche publishing house that focuses on fantasy, gothic and historical fiction and poetry collections. We're intimately familiar with these genres, and look for exceptional writing quality and artistic merit in our manuscripts. Each of these soon-to-be-published works exhibits these criteria."

"Sadie in Love," to be released on July 31, is set in 1913 in New York City, and provides a warmly comical and deliciously entertaining look at life on the city's Lower East Side. Sadie Schuster, the main character, is a forty-something, plumpish, recently widowed, Jewish immigrant. She has a passion for crafting love knots for lonely, unwitting immigrants, while she unintentionally knits a tangled love knot of her own with a local ice peddler and the "Dance King of Riga, Latvia." Comedy and chaos ensue.

Distelheim has won numerous writing awards - most recently, the 2017 Gival Press Competition for Short Story, as well as The Katharine Anne Porter Prize, The William Faulkner Gold Medal in Novel and more. Learn more at:

"Paricutin: The Miracle of Daniel Pulido," to be released on August 31, immediately draws readers into a gripping tale of survival, courage, hope and love. The story centers on a Mexican boy and a Nebraska girl who are bizarrely linked by a volcano, an earthquake and an odd poem. The story begins when 16-year-old Daniel has a premonition of the 1985 Mexico City earthquake - eight days later, he's the sole survivor. What comes next demonstrates how life takes unexpected turns and results in unlikely outcomes.

Dobson began his writing career in the early 1960s when he joined his wife, Bridget, as head writer for the popular soap opera, "General Hospital." The couple had multiple Emmy nominations for head writing "Guiding Light," "As the World Turns" and their creation, "Santa Barbara." Over two years, "Santa Barbara" was nominated for 27 Emmys, and won 11, both records at the time.

"The Annotated Murder of One," to be released on September 7, is a poetry collection that spins lyrics from the Counting Crows' song, "A Murder of One," and weaves them into new directions and dimensions. The poems highlight memories, history, the future and the relationship between love and understanding. Vivid bird imagery is found throughout, in addition to ghosts, humor and other colorful images. Pearce's poems have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, shortlisted for the Slate Roof and Blue Light Press competitions, and have won the BYU Studies Prize in Poetry.

Advance reading copies (ARC) for the novels are available for electronic review on NetGalley ( ) and paperback ARC copies can be requested from the publisher. The ARC for the poems will be available early May. Readers can listen to Pearce read 15 of his poems on Aubade's website and on YouTube.

Each book will be published in paperback, e-book and Kindle formats; all three may be pre-ordered on Amazon.

"And, this is just the beginning of what's in store for Aubade," Puckett says.

Aubade looks to incrementally expand to eight titles per year by 2021. A call for manuscripts for late summer 2019 publication is currently underway.

For more information about these titles and 2019 manuscript submission, visit:

About Aubade Publishing:

Vonda, a graduate of Weber State University, has a double major in history and English, and is an especially qualified judge of historical fiction.

Their daughter, Cosette, a fourth-year student at the University St. Andrews, Scotland, reviews and recommends manuscripts for selection, designs and produces book layouts and covers and provides illustrations. Aubade's business model is to discover and publish experienced writers who may have been overlooked by larger publishing companies, providing them an initial publication opportunity.
