Partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, Delivers Facilities Improvements to Marietta High School

DAYTON, Ohio -- Marietta City School District is investing in improving the High School café, kitchen, and concession stand with Energy Optimizers, USA. As a member of the META Solutions Educational Purchasing Co-op, the District will be able to tap into the LED Lighting and Energy Savings Program through the Ohio Council of Educational Purchasing Consortia. This program enables the district to make these improvements at no additional expense to taxpayers while ensuring the best possible pricing.

The School District is installing LED lighting retrofits in the High School café, server, kitchen, and kitchen offices. Other improvements include new kitchen appliances, electrical upgrades, replacement of ceiling tiles in the café, pine paneling in the serving area, and new counter tops in the bar area. The floors will be waxed and conditioned. The concession stand will be expanded.

The benefits will be immediate, with reduced energy bills and maintenance costs from the LED lighting retrofits. Annual energy savings are anticipated at $2,377. Kitchen staff will have a much more efficient, safe workspace, and students will benefit from the improved facility.

LED lighting retrofits offer up to 75 percent savings over the district's former lighting systems, offering an almost immediate reduction in utility costs. They will also last 3 to 4 times longer, which will further reduce long-term operations and maintenance costs.

"At Marietta City School District, we aim to be high achieving in all aspects of our operations, from academic performance to financial management," said Will Hampton, Superintendent. "This investment in our High School building will pay dividends to our bottom line while supporting our mission of empowering our students to excel academically and personally."

"We take great pride in our ability to provide schools with cost-effective solutions that make measurably better improvements to their facilities," said Rusty Bookman with Energy Optimizers, USA. "Marietta City School District will be able to channel the savings it gains right back into its classrooms or into other needed capital improvements. That's a victory for the school, its students and the community."

Partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, Delivers $25,000 in Annual Savings to St. Mary Catholic School

DAYTON, Ohio, -- St. Mary Catholic School is making an investment of $86,704 in a facilities improvement project with Energy Optimizers, USA. The school paid cash for the project, which includes energy efficient LED interior and exterior lighting retrofits. The benefits will be immediate, with reduced energy bills and an improved learning environment.

The School anticipates a reduction in annual utility costs of about $25,000. The payback for the project is just 3-1/2 years, which makes this a very worthwhile endeavor.

The LED lighting retrofits offer up to 75 percent savings over the district's former lighting systems, offering an almost immediate reduction in utility costs. They will also last 3 to 4 times longer, which will further reduce long-term operations and maintenance costs.

Beyond the financial savings, LED lighting is a superior option for educational settings. The quality of LED lighting is very close to natural daylight, making it easier on the eyes. Further, it offers improved light distribution and lighting levels. LEDs are also free of the hum and flicker associated with fluorescent lighting, making it an ideal system for special needs classrooms. All these benefits are associated with improved behavior and health, in addition to increased motivation and higher test scores.

"At St. Mary Catholic School, we aim to be high achieving in all aspects of our operations, from academic performance to financial management," said Mrs. Elizabeth Tokodi, Principal. "We believe that this investment in our building will pay dividends to our bottom line while directly supporting our strategies to improve student outcomes and our overall school climate."

Kids Read Now celebrates partnerships with hometown heroes, delivering books to Ohio students

DAYTON, Ohio -- Kids Read Now has partnered with school districts across Ohio, including Ansonia Local Schools, Troy City Schools, Mapleton Local School District, Greenville City Schools, and Northridge Local Schools, to mail books directly to their students' homes over the summer. The number of students in the Kids Read Now program continues to grow with almost 400,000 books being mailed to students in 2020 alone!

Most students will experience reading skill loss over a typical summer break from school. Creating home libraries is key to preventing a steep learning slide due to summer break and recent extended school closures. "Whether it's the summer slide or the COVID slide, the KRN in-home reading programs are eliminating learning loss and are helping kids gain up to 2.5 months of learning over the summer," said Leib Lurie, CEO of Kids Read Now.

"The kids love getting the books throughout the summer and come in the following school year talking about all the awesome books that they got. I can tell it definitely encourages the kids to read," said Taylor B., Classroom Teacher, Troy City Schools.

"Providing students with high quality texts to read during the summer is absolutely crucial. An added bonus is that students get 'real' mail!" said Jill H. B., Curriculum Director, Black River Local School District.

The Kids Read Now K-3 summer reading program mails eight new books to students and includes exciting multicultural, fiction, and nonfiction titles loved by children. Mailing books builds ongoing enthusiasm but does not require in-home technology. Each book includes guided discussion questions to help improve reading skills and increase family engagement. The ninth book of beautifully illustrated creative writing prompts concludes the program so children can write their own stories. Best of all, kids keep their new books!

Kids Read Now is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the singular mission to eliminate learning loss for all K-3 students.

North Central Local Schools expects to save more than $50,000 annually through a partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- North Central Local Schools' K-12 building is set to receive a dramatic upgrade in energy efficiency through a partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, a move that is expected to save the district more than $50,000 annually.

Starting in July, Energy Optimizers, USA, will retrofit all interior and exterior lighting systems with LEDs, upgrade the district's building controls system, provide energy-efficient enhancements to kitchen equipment and water pumps, and replace the building's roof with a higher rated insulated material. The work also includes a biannual inspection and maintenance of HVAC equipment to ensure it is running in top condition.

"We know that the best use of taxpayer dollars is in our classrooms," said Superintendent William Hanak. "The savings we attain from this project will enable us to channel more dollars toward investments in technology and other tools that will prepare North Central students for the future."

The expected savings will come through reduced demand for fuel, electrical utilities, and maintenance. The most immediate gains will result from the switch to LED lighting, which uses an average of 60 percent less energy and lasts five times longer than the systems being replaced.

"Our clients are tasked with preparing their students for the 21st century with very limited budgets, which is why we deliver cost-effective, turnkey solutions to improve energy efficiency," said Greg Smith, Energy Optimizers, USA, president. "Our seamless approach enables our clients to operate more efficiently, all to the benefit of their students, staff, and taxpayers."

Partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, expected to save Austintown Local Schools an estimated $153,000 annually

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- Austintown Local Schools expects to save more than $153,000 annually by transitioning to LED lighting in partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, an energy management solutions firm.

Starting in April Energy Optimizers, USA will retrofit the interior and exterior lighting systems at all five of the district's buildings with LED systems. Lighting in the Austintown Falcons' football stadium and baseball field will also undergo an overhaul to the more energy-efficient lighting solution. The lighting comes with a 25-year material warranty.

"Our 2020 Strategic Plan calls for us ensure our students are achieving at or above grade-level expectations and to demonstrate fiscal responsibility to our community," said Superintendent Vincent Colaluca. "This project is going to help us accomplish both by delivering tremendous savings that we can direct to our classrooms."

The savings will be gained through both improved energy efficiency and lower maintenance costs. LED lighting uses an average of 60 percent less energy and lasts five times longer than the systems being replaced. The district will also make use of First Energy incentives, which is expected to net an additional $50,000 in energy rebates.

The benefits to the district's students and staff extend well beyond cost savings. LED lighting offers a quality of light that is very close to natural sunlight, which will result in better-lit and more comfortable learning environments. Also, LEDs do not have the hum and flicker associated with fluorescent lighting, making it an ideal lighting system for special needs classrooms.

The partnership also includes funding for a district-wide Energy Education & Awareness Program that will invite students, staff, and the community to develop, promote and implement numerous energy savings and sustainability programs throughout the district while being aligned with the state testing standards.

The district "Green Team" will include scholarships for participating students, an educational trip to The Ohio State University to build a district "Energy Bike," a 5KW solar array to supplement classroom lessons and numerous after-school activities to promote and educate the students, staff, and community about energy efficiency and sustainability.

"Austintown students and staff will benefit from a lighting program that doesn't just save the district money; they will also gain real-world insights into STEM-related concepts and career opportunities," said Greg Smith, president of Energy Optimizers, USA. "And that's exactly why we do what we do - we want to help our school partners save money, save the environment and prepare their students to do great things in the world."

Fort Recovery Local Schools expects to net a $17,000 utility rebate through energy savings project completed with Energy Optimizers, USA

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- Energy Optimizers, USA, has completed an aggressive energy savings project that is expected to save Fort Recovery Local Schools more than $30,000 a year in utility costs.

The district also anticipates receiving a Dayton Power& Light rebate of more than $17,000 because of the work.

Beginning in late winter, Energy Optimizers USA, retrofitted the district's interior lighting with LED systems, replaced the district's boilers and boiler controls with state-of-the-art energy efficient equipment, and made energy-saving enhancements to its kitchens and transportation garage. The energy savings attained will be equivalent to preserving 81 acres of trees or removing 53 cars from the road.

Most of the work was funded through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make these cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers while ensuring the guaranteed savings of the project are met or exceeded.

"The ability to qualify for such a substantial rebate is both a benefit to our community and a confirmation of our strategy to save taxpayer dollars by investing in energy-saving features," said Superintendent Justin Firks. "We couldn't have been more pleased with the quality of solutions and work provided by Energy Optimizers, USA."

Energy Optimizers, USA, has also provided funding to launch an Energy Education and Awareness Program in the district. The program will involve students, staff and the community in developing, promoting and implementing numerous energy savings and sustainability programs throughout the district.

"Projects like these, where the district, their students, and their local taxpayers win, are the reason we are here," said Greg Smith, president of Energy Optimizers, USA. "By investing in relatively simple improvements, Fort Recovery Local Schools has improved its classrooms and its bottom line."

Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Local Schools’ utility savings more than $6,000 above projections through a partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- Two years after completing a comprehensive energy savings project with Energy Optimizers, USA, Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Local Schools has exceeded projected savings on its utility bills by more than $6,000 annually.

In 2016, the district executed a $1.8 million project to transition all lighting to LED systems and to make energy-saving upgrades to its boilers, chillers, HVAC temperature controls, and kitchen equipment. At the time, the district was the first in Ohio to upgrade all lighting systems to LED.

The district expected to save just over $134,000 a year on electrical and gas utilities, but actual savings have exceeded $140,00 annually. The savings are normalized or adjusted to account for outliers in weather conditions and utility rates.

"Fiscal conservation is significant in our district, which is why we partnered with Energy Optimizers, USA, and invested in cost-effective, energy-saving solutions throughout our district," said Jeff Lewis, Interim Superintendent. "Clearly those investments are paying off as substantial savings to our bottom line."

The savings will continue to add up for the district over the long term, according to Greg Smith, president of Energy Optimizers, USA.

"Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Local Schools will continue to see savings not just in its electric and gas usage, but also in long-term operations and maintenance costs simply because these systems last longer," said Smith. "This level of forward-thinking by the district's leadership is the reflection of a community that has made funding the education of its youth a priority."

Energy project with Energy Optimizers, USA, nets Monroe Local Schools more than $75,000 in cost savings

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- Just one year after completing a project to reduce its energy consumption, Monroe Local Schools has surpassed projections for cost savings, Energy Optimizers, USA found.

In 2016, the district engaged Energy Optimizers, USA, to replace all of its interior and exterior lighting with LED systems. The project also included the installation of HVAC controls and a high-efficiency boiler at the district's 2-12 building.

The district anticipated saving approximately $74,000 annually, but an analysis has found the savings exceeded $75,000 in the first year. Electrical consumption is down 18.6 percent and fuel usage is down 17.4 percent. The savings are normalized for weather.

The savings will continue to build annually by reducing both energy demand and maintenance costs. That's because LED lighting uses an average of 60 percent less energy and lasts five times longer than the systems that were replaced.

"These relatively simple and straightforward investments in energy efficiency have yielded a tremendous savings, which is critical as we balance the needs of our fast-growing student population with limited resources," said Monroe Local Schools Superintendent Phil Cagwin. "At the same time, we have improved our learning environments with higher-quality lighting, better air quality and more comfortable classroom temperatures."

The majority of the work was funded through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make these cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers while ensuring the guaranteed savings of the project are met or exceeded.

"This is a great story for Monroe Local Schools, its staff and students, and the community it serves," said Greg Smith, president of Energy Optimizers, USA. "By making fiscally sound investments in the future, the district has redirected dollars from the utility companies to its classrooms, where they will have the most impact."
