Provocative film maker, Theo Van Gogh exposed in Articulate Theatre’s World Premiere production of ‘Committed’ by Natalie Menna

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- LanDan Consulting announces that Brad Fryman is taking on the role of Theo Van Gogh in the World Premiere play "Committed" by Natalie Menna and directed by Brock Harris for the Altruistic Theatre Company.

"Committed" is a work of historical fiction about the last two days of Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh's life before his murder. When his highly controversial and vulgar documentary causes a tremendous uproar in Amsterdam and abroad, Theo spirals downward.

Fryman's work includes: "The Drawer Boy" by Michael Healey directed by Alex Dinelaris at the SoHo Playhouse, "Order" By Christopher Stetson Boal directed by Austin Pendleton at The Kirk at Theatre Row, "Pimm's Mission" directed by Terrence O'brien at 59e59, and "A Wilder Christmas" by Thornton Wilder directed by Dan Wackerman at Peccadillo Theatre at St. Clements.

The play explores the collision of an artist's radical temperament and unyielding vision with modern political realities and the inevitable tragedy when uncompromising values clash. Can friendship, family, or love save Theo from his biggest threat - himself?

PIT STOP PLAYERS PRESENTS: ‘Absolut Collusion’ – An Evening of Great Russian Music

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Pit Stop Players, the celebrated New York-based instrumental chamber ensemble composed of veteran Broadway pit musicians, will open their eighth season with "ABSOLUT COLLUSION," an all-Russian concert at Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church, 152 West 66th Street, on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

Regarding the programming, music director Joshua Rosenblum said, "The spirit of Russian collusion seems to be all-pervasive these days. But we decided to make it musical and celebratory, instead of criminal and potentially impeachable. That's why we're going to play some of the greatest music Russia has given the world."

The selections will include: Leonid Desyatnikov's "Sketches to Sunset," Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov's "Procession of the Sardar," the second movement from Prokoviev's Symphony No. 5, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Tsar's Bride Overture," Shostakovich's Jazz Suite No. 1, Grigory Smirnov's "Air," and Stravinsky's "Ragtime for 11 Instruments." The group will also present a special new arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumble Bee," performed by pianist Garah Landes and percussionist Gregory Landes.

Cited by "The New York Times" for their "flair," "spirited readings," and "playfully cohesive programs," "making an hour-long serving of modern works not just palatable but enticing," the Pit Stop Players have taken their place at the cutting edge of New York's cultural landscape, bringing exciting contemporary music to new audiences, and upending conventional assumptions about concert programming.

Founded in 2009 by conductor/composer Joshua Rosenblum, the ensemble is comprised of some of New York's top freelance musicians, commonly regarded as the best instrumentalists in the world. Repertoire includes arrangements and transcriptions of great pieces from the recent past (encompassing numerous genres), as well as undeservedly neglected classical gems, but the primary emphasis is on new compositions that are both challenging and immediately engaging, written and orchestrated specifically for the group by today's most exciting creative talents.

Highlights have included the group's performance of "The Rite of Spring" in a specially-commissioned new chamber arrangement, as well as Rosenblum's own "Young Person's Guide to the Pit Stop Players," with special guest narrator Cynthia Nixon. Last year at Symphony Space, the Players gave a joint performance with the Brooklyn-based dance company The Chase Brock Experience, an artistic collaboration which zealnyc.com described as "perfecting perfection."

The Pit Stop Players, who collectively have played in pit orchestras for over 150 Broadway productions, include Ed Matthew, Steve Kenyon, Rick Heckman, and Don McGeen, woodwinds; Dan Culpepper, horn; Chris Jaudes, trumpet; Wayne Goodman, trombone; Robin Zeh and Suzy Perelman, violins; Denise Stillwell, viola; Peter Sachon, cello; Jeff Carney, bass; Scott Kuney, guitar; Gregory Landes and Andrew Beall, percussion; and Garah Landes, piano.

Pompano Beach Cultural Center Opens with Dazzling Weekend of Events and Rave Reviews

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- The Pompano Beach Cultural Center (www.ccpompano.org) opened Thursday, May 11 with a spectacular ribbon cutting ceremony featuring dancers whose costume unfurled to become the red ribbon cut by Mayor Lamar Fisher and an esteemed group of City, County and State leaders.

Over one thousand patrons then toured the remarkable new venue, meeting eleven resident companies, exploring the world premiere Cuban art exhibit, "Shipwrecked of Reason" and enjoying performances by an array of musicians and dancers. The festivities then continued throughout the weekend as hundreds of patrons enjoyed The Preview Party fundraiser, Havana Nights and The Florida Grand Opera Family Day.

"The opening of the Cultural Center was truly one of the most exciting events in our City's history," said Mayor Lamar Fisher. "There had been so much anticipation surrounding this day, and everyone who attended was dazzled by the iconic beauty of this venue as much as the incredible performances."

The ribbon cutting ceremony highlighted the mission of the Center of nurturing emerging talent while showcasing internationally renowned artists. Patrons enjoyed the incredible movement of local Eta Nu Step Dancing team to the beat of Fushu Daiko taiko drummers and the Blanche Ely High School Jazz band's performance accompanied by Grammy-winning saxophone player Ed Calle.

"This four-day opening was truly a series of grand events that showcased this iconic new venue and the incredibly diverse programming that is in store for patrons," said Alyona Ushe, President and CEO of The Creatives, the organization which programs and manages the Center. "Thanks to the extraordinary vision of Pompano Beach City leaders, this community now has a venue that will draw national and international talent, while also supporting and nurturing regional and emerging talent."

"Every corner of this venue was activated with phenomenal performances," continued Ushe. "This weekend represented the excitement that will be here on a regular basis, not only with live music and dance performances, but also with visual and multimedia art. Our opening featured both local live art with Todd the Painter and the world premiere Cuban art exhibit, 'Shipwrecked of Reason.'"

This exhibit was curated by internationally renowned curator, Isabel Maria Perez Perez, who came in from Cuba for the event. The show features the top 20 Cuban Contemporary artists and will be on display until the end of July. Havana Nights featured two-time Grammy-award winner Marlow Rosado and brought the exhibit to life with Cuban dancers, big band, cigar rollers, antique cars, Cuban cuisine and coffee. "Our patrons were transported into Havana and enjoyed the best of Cuban culture throughout the night," said Ushe.

"This weekend would not have been possible without the tremendous support of so many amazing people including Melanie Riddick, who chaired the Preview Party; award winning playwright Michael McKeever, who helped produce our opening shows; Marlow Rosado who staged 'Havana Nights,' and to our many wonderful sponsors," said Ushe.

The opening presenting sponsors included Sabbia Beach, Pompano! Magazine, JetBlue, Lifestyle Magazine Group, NBC 6, OHL Building, Isle Casino and Bateman Gordon Sands.

BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Nunnbetter Dance Theatre (NDT), one of Bergen County, New Jersey's premier dance schools, is proud to announce that all three ensemble pieces entered into the Youth America Grand Prix competition earlier this year were awarded a spot in the NYC Finals taking place April 8 and 9, 2017 in New York City.

It is an honor for any dance studio to have one piece make it through to the finals, but an absolutely amazing achievement that the NDT dancers will have the chance to compete with all three of the beautifully choreographed pieces! Awarded a spot in the finals are a classical piece (from Haydn), a contemporary piece (entitled Sand), and a high spirited boys' contemporary piece (from Broadway's "Five Guys Named Moe").

"Everyone at NDT is beyond proud of all of our dancers for this incredible accomplishment," said Ernie Prinz, NDT Company Director. "The dedication and work that the NDT dancers, teachers, and choreographers have put into creating and perfecting these pieces is truly wonderful."

To date, over 50,000 dancers have participated in YAGP's workshops, scholarship auditions and master classes worldwide.

In addition to the accolades the NDT ensemble pieces received at the regional YAGP competition, three NDT dancers who entered as soloists in the competition were recognized with scholarships and other awards. Erin Aslami, a native of Tenafly, placed in the top 12 in both the Senior Classical Soloist and Senior Contemporary Soloist categories and was offered a scholarship to the UNCSA summer program with an invitation to the UNCSA undergraduate program. Cecilia Hernandez placed in the top 12 in the Junior Classical Soloist division and Lillian Smith was invited to the NCSA Summer and Full Year program. Both young women are residents of Teaneck.

The Pit Stop Players Present: ‘Fall Fantasies’

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Pit Stop Players, a celebrated instrumental chamber ensemble composed of veteran Broadway pit musicians, launch their seventh season with a concert of fantasy-themed music at Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church, 152 West 66th Street, on Tuesday, October 24, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.

Featuring works by John Adams, Freddy Mercury, Earth, Wind, Fire & Chopin, Joshua Rosenblum, and David Shire plus world premieres by David Chesky and Gary William Friedman.

The selections will include John Adams's "The Chairman Dances," Freddy Mercury's "Bohemian Rhapsody, a suite from David Shire's widely praised score to the film "Return to Oz," and Pit Stop music director Joshua Rosenblum's "Nightmare on Ninth Avenue." The concert will also feature a mash-up of Earth Wind and Fire's "Fantasy" and Frederic Chopin's "Fantasie-Impromptu," with Garah Landes as piano soloist. The concert also includes the world premieres of David Chesky's "Venetian Concerto No. 3" and Gary William Friedman's "Dream Within a Dream," based on the poem by Edgar Allen Poe.

Regarding the programming, Rosenblum said, "I wanted to put together a group of pieces that were all somehow fantasy-related. With some of them, the theme is more obvious than with others. David Chesky said his piece is so hard that actually being able to play it might be a fantasy itself."

Last spring at Symphony Space, the Players gave a joint performance with the Brooklyn-based dance company The Chase Brock Experience, an artistic collaboration which zealnyc.com described as "perfecting perfection."

Blue Hill Troupe Presents Gilbert & Sullivan’s ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ – Nonprofit Troupe’s 93rd Season to Benefit Rocking the Boat

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Blue Hill Troupe, now in its 93rd season, offers a fresh new take on Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance." This perennial audience favorite tells the story of a pirate named Frederic, who at the age of 21, has completed his apprenticeship and is ready to seek his fortune as an upstanding citizen.

Wasting no time, he falls in love with the beautiful daughter of a local Major General ... but is thwarted by the discovery that he was born on February 29. With a Leap Day birthday, he's only 5, not 21, which means he's still a pirate!

The Blue Hill Troupe is the only musical theater group in New York City to donate its net proceeds to charity. Proceeds from the company's 2016-2017 season will benefit Rocking the Boat.

At Rocking the Boat, a nonprofit organization in the South Bronx, students work together to build wooden boats, learn to row and sail, and restore local urban waterways, revitalizing their community while creating better lives for themselves-the perfect charity match with "The Pirates of Penzance."

The Blue Hill Troupe's production of "The Pirates of Penzance" is directed by Carl Schmehl with music direction by William Remmers.

The production features Maya Anand, Larry Beers, Lesley Berry*, Heather Denny, Julia Farina, Eva Giorgi, Rachel Goodman, Johnny Hager, Erik Hanson, Casey Keeler, Douglas Kiddie, John Leonard, Michael Macaione*, David Pasteelnick, Gregory Peterson, Allison Prince, Rebecca Rozzoni, Charlie Schlangen, Scott Richard Smith, Suzanne R. Art-In-Relation pairs two unknown works of musical theater art, ‘Wild Party’ and ‘Frankenstein, A New Musical’ in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Art-In-Relation, Jonas Sills, producer, announces a move from Long Beach, after two successful seasons, to Hollywood with two hauntingly gorgeous, but lesser known musical theater productions at The Complex Theatres, Hollywood. A combination of "The Wild Party." a lesser known version of the musical based on the poem by Joseph Moncure, and written by Andrew Lippa, coupled with Mary Shelley's tale with a musical twist, "Frankenstein, A New Musical," with music by Mark Baron, lyrics by Jeffrey Jackson, and a book by Jackson and Gary P. Cohen, a Los Angeles premiere.

It seemed a perfect coupling to Jonas Sills, executive producer, to pair the musicals. "Both of them are raw, both of them are musically lush, and both of them are underperformed," said Sills.

Having an extreme interest in "Breathing new life" into musical theater, Art-In-Relation is excited about moving forward with a unique mission to offer and produce lesser known works of musical theater to an diverse Los Angeles audience.

The creative team for the two productions includes two teams led by two directors who have been with Art-In-Relation before. Quentin Garzon, Director, "Wild Party," is passionate about the 1920's era musical with lush score, harmonies, and innovative dance. Passionate enough in fact that he convinced Art-In-Relation to produce the show.

Having produced "Frankenstein" as their inaugural production, Art-In-Relation co-producer Ray Buffer was intrigued with the possibility of bringing the production to Los Angeles Audiences.

"Re-envisioning Frankenstein in a smaller, more intimate space allows us to create nuances in the performance that were not possible in a large space. This production will aim for visceral relationship between audience and storytellers, where the audience feels they are part of the mindscape," Buffer stated.

"I am grateful for this opportunity to work with a dynamic group of talented cast and crew on this new venture producing this under recognized work," Buffer added.

Sills is most passionate about intimate theater, and having the location and audience to foster it, a move to the heart of "theater row" was the "natural evolution."

"I am looking forward to continuing the success of these two winning shows with more under-noticed works in the future," noted Sills.

"The Wild Party" plays September 9 - October 2, 2016 in the "Dorie Theatre" at The Complex, 6476 Santa Monica Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028 (Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/TCMz59CsfRK2).

"Frankenstein, A New Musical" plays October 7 - October 30, 2016 in "The Flight" theater also at The Complex. Shows play Thursday, Friday and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
