University Kia Distributes Warmth to Durham Rescue Mission

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The dealership with a big heart, University Kia in Durham, North Carolina, found a way to provide a need for the Durham Rescue Mission by heaping warmth on the mission with the gift of warm blankets for the cold winter ahead.

"Once again, I reached out to the Sackcloth and Ashes company and they were happy to provide the blankets for us," commented Aric Swanger, General Manager of University Kia. "Our goal is to continue in community involvement, going above and beyond the typical car dealership. We want to be a positive influence in our community, helping out where we can."

Through a partnership with Sackcloth and Ashes, University Kia will give one blanket to each of their customers who purchase a new Kia. In turn, Sackcloth and Ashes will donate a blanket to the mission for each blanket Kia purchases from them. A collection of 500 blankets will be distributed to the Durham Rescue Mission on Thursday, January 21, 2021.

"Our needs are great and growing," remarked Tony Gooch, Director of Development Operations at the Durham Rescue Mission. "We are extremely pleased and thankful and feel abundantly blessed to have this local Kia dealership provide such a generous gift for the residents at our shelter."

University Kia has also participated in ongoing community outreach projects such as Meals on Wheels and Jake's Ride.

Each of Kia's 757 retailers nationwide are making similar donations to the hospital or medical facility of their choosing, totaling more than 75,000 face shields across all 50 states.

"Kia has really stepped up in this time of need and we are honored to do our part and by helping Duke-Health in the fight against COVID-19 by providing badly needed face shields to medical workers here in Durham," said Aric Swanger, General Manager, University Kia of Durham. "We are grateful for the hard work and dedication these frontline medical workers exhibit every day to save lives in our community."

The latest face shield deliveries are the latest in a series of initiatives Kia Motors America implemented in response to COVID-19. The program, called Accelerate The Good, previously saw Kia donating $1 million to multiple non-profit partners that assist homeless youth nationwide, including Covenant House, StandUp for Kids and Family Promise.

University Kia Shows Support of Local Charities

DURHAM, N.C. -- In addition to opening a brand new showroom on August 30, 2019, University Kia showed their support of local community by presenting Meals on Wheels Chapel Hill - Carrboro with a donation of more than $10,000. This appropriation will help seniors and adults with disabilities in the Chapel Hill - Carrboro area gain access to hot and balanced meals that they otherwise would not be able to receive.

During the months of July and August, University Kia donated a portion of every new Kia sold to Meals on Wheels Chapel Hill - Carrboro. The total amount was raised over the two-month period and was presented to them as a lump-sum of $10,239.

"We are incredibly grateful for our community partners, like University Kia, who really enable us to feed the hungry in our area," said Rachel Sobel Berman, Executive Director at Meals on Wheels Chapel Hill - Carrboro.

Positive Impact:
As an ongoing commitment to the community, University Kia and Meals on Wheels Chapel Hill-Carrboro joined forces to help feed the elderly and homebound in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area. Back in early spring, University Kia generously donated a new 2019 Kia Soul to Meals on Wheels Chapel Hill-Carrboro to help them continue to provide hot, nutritious meals and personal visits to more than 180 recipients in the Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and southern Orange County areas who are unable to prepare meals for themselves.

"With our store now closer to Chapel Hill, we decided to partner with Meals on Wheels. We were able to donate the new 2019 Kia Soul to the program and we even had it custom vinyl wrapped so that it would stand out when people see it on the street. We are hoping that this raises awareness for the good that Meals on Wheels is doing for the Chapel Hill and Carrboro communities. We also could not have done this venture without the help of WCHL radio in Chapel Hill," said Aric Swanger, General Manager of University Kia.

University Auto Group has been serving the Triangle for over 30 years. Since inception, University Kia has made its mission to provide outstanding customer service and to create a one-of-a-kind car buying experience. In an industry that is ever-changing, University Kia remains committed to its customers, staff, and communities it serves.
