MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA and COPENHAGEN, Denmark /Send2Press Newswire/ — Napatech (www.napatech.com) today announced the immediate availability of the industry’s first 8×1 GIGABIT PROGRAMMABLE TRAFFIC ANALYZER NETWORK INTERFACE CARD. The 8×1 Gigabit NT8FT Traffic Analyzer NIC is the most powerful and the only fully programmable traffic analyzer NIC available on the market today, allowing traffic filtering at 8 Gbps. The NT8FT Traffic Analyzer NIC is based on the industry standard PCI-X interface and compliant with most platforms.

“The new Traffic Analyzer NIC enables our OEM-customers to implement fully customized HW-accelerated traffic analyzer solutions very effectively as their existing software and hardware can be fully or partly reused, and made to scale to future demands of end customers,” says Thomas Jorgensen, Vice President of Sales at Napatech. “The Traffic Analyzer NIC is already deployed in production networks and proven its worth. The fully programmable platform provides both Napatech and our customers with the ability to rapidly and continuously add features and update the solutions in the field.”

The Traffic Analyzer NIC includes features like packet filtering, packet tracing and high precision time stamping all done in HW allowing packet processing at up to 8 Gbps line speeds. Systems with multiple cards will be able to support line speed on all cards and ports. The feature set includes 64 fully programmable filters, Linux driver and programming interface in source code. The 64 filters can be combined with Boolean operations. Another key feature is high precision time stamping.

The NIC is capable of making up to 1 billion filter lookups per second. Because of the flexible and effective filtering, the host application can concentrate on the specialized traffic analysis rather than on filtering and discarding irrelevant traffic.

Availability & Configurations

The Napatech products are immediately available through Napatech for OEM sales only. Pricing information can be obtained directly from Napatech.

The programmable Traffic Analyzer NIC is available in the following hardware configurations:

NT4ET 4-port electrical NIC

NT4FT 4-port optical NIC

NT8ET 8-port electrical NIC

NT8FT 8-port optical NIC

NT4E4FT 4-port electrical and 4-port optical NIC

Traffic Analyzer kit — A development kit which provides the customer with a fully workable plug-and-play solution and test platform. The development kit contains 1 PC installed with 1 NT4E4FT (4x1G Electrical port + 4×1 G optical port NIC), Linux driver (including source code) and custom application examples plus one extra NT4E4FT Traffic Analyzer NIC.

About Napatech

Founded in 2003, Napatech is focused on programmable Ethernet adapters. The core idea is off-loading real-time traffic and payload analysis applications traditionally implemented in software or proprietary hardware. Napatech expects a huge growth in the demand for intelligent and programmable adapters as Ethernet speeds increase. The current PC architecture limits the amount of bandwidth that can be handled by the PCI bus and CPU/memory. Napatech has marketing and R&D offices in Mountain View, California and Copenhagen, Denmark.
