Patented, Digital-Camera Based Strain Measurement System Now Available Through ASAME Technology LLC

CEDAR PARK, TX – September 15 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — ASAME Technology LLC (www.asametech.com), holds an exclusive license to market, distribute, and support the patented Automated Surface Strain Analysis and Measurement Environment (ASAME). ASAME Technology sells and supports two well-known surface strain measurement technologies: the ASAME Target Model and the Grid Pattern Analyzer (GPA). Currently there are more than 100 ASAME and/or GPA users around the world.

Scientists and engineers use the ASAME Target Model to obtain the 3D geometry and surface strain data over critical areas of sheet metal or plastic parts efficiently and accurately. First, a grid pattern of squares or circles is applied to the surface of an undeformed sheet of metal or plastic, and the gridded blank is formed. A small photogrammetry target is placed in the view of the desired measurement area, and two or three photographs are taken of the area including the target. These images are processed using the ASAME software, and the geometry and strain data for the area calculated.

A large variety of data display features offers the capability to analyze data for specific forming applications. The ASAME Target Model includes a professional high-resolution digital SLR camera, tripod, custom photogrammetry targets, ASAME 4.1 measurement and display software, instruction manual, and 2 days training. When combined with a laptop computer, the system is ready to travel. The retail U.S. price for an ASAME Target Model is $41,500.

The GPA (Grid Pattern Analyzer) enables the user to measure strain data, one point at a time, over an area of a formed metal or plastic part. First, a grid pattern of squares, circles, or combination of these, is applied to the surface of an undeformed sheet of metal or plastic, and the gridded blank is formed. Strain data is obtained by using the GPA’s hand-held video camera to capture an image of one grid element.

Seconds after image capture, the strain is calculated and displayed on a forming limit diagram. The GPA includes one USB camera, housing, cables, GPA measurement and display software, and instruction manual. When combined with a laptop computer , the system is completely portable. The retail U.S. price for a GPA is $9,500.
