CHARLOTTE, NC – September 26 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Making the best of a bad situation, NASCAR driver Robby Gordon auctioned off the helmet he threw at fellow driver Michael Waltrip on eBay for $51,100. The helmet was bought by Internet casino GoldenPalace.com, with all proceeds going to Harrah’s Employee Relief Fund.
Harrah’s will use the money to help provide recovery assistance to employees, families, and the communities in the region affected by Hurricaine Katrina.Gordon threw the helmet at Waltrip after they were involved in an accident during last week’s race at New Hampshire International Speedway.
“What happened [at the race] was unfortunate,” said Gordon in a quote that appeared on the eBay page. “I’m sorry for losing my temper following the race, but after a day or two of looking back at the race its easy to realize that its just not that big of a deal compared with what the people of the Gulf Coast are still going through. Obviously I’m still angry…but at the end of the day I still have a house to go home to.”
