TRIPOLI, Libya – Oct. 24 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Phoenicia Group Libya LLC, (www.phoenicia-group.net), the U.S-Libyan diversified business and consultancy firm, today announced its partnership with the Beyster Institute at the Rady School of Management, University of California, San Diego, in organizing and implementing the MEET U.S. Program 2007 in Libya.

Phoenicia Group LibyaMEET U.S., or Middle East Entrepreneur Training in the U.S., is a unique training program designed to identify, develop and sustain a new corps of business leaders for the MENA region.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Office of the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), the MEET U.S Program is organized by the Beyster Institute and will be implemented in Libya by Phoenicia Group and the Libyan American Business Council, in association with the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli.

Ryad Sunusi, President & CEO of Phoenicia Group, and founder of the Libyan American Business Council, described the partnership as “a natural outflow of strengthened links between U.S. and Libyan companies, trade and business advocacy groups, educational and research institutions, and government and social organizations.”

“We envision future partnerships and cooperation in building cross-cultural educational and business exchange with our U.S colleagues; and are planning a similar event in association with the Waa’tisimo Foundation to invite U.S. government, academic, and business leaders to learn more about the unique Jamahiriya model of governance and social development,” he said, in a released statement from Tripoli.

The MEET U.S. Program will comprise two intensive three-week training programs, with an IT and Business focus, in March and May 2007 respectively, with each group of 25 participants chosen for leadership skills, community involvement, and growth potential in their respective fields.

It is the first time Libyan applicants are eligible to participate.

Phoenicia Group began providing commercial advisory and risk management strategies to improve a competitive position for U.S companies wishing to do business in Libya in 1999, after relaxation of the Iran Libya Sanctions Act under President Clinton allowing the export of U.S. agricultural products and medicines to Libya.

Phoenicia Group expanded rapidly since into the oil & gas, communications, financial, retail, construction, and tourism sectors, making it the leading Libyan private company and consultancy group; and sponsoring the spin-off of the Libyan-American Business Council in 2004 to promote U.S.-Libyan trade and business exchange.
