Snow is good for the Beargrease and thinking pink is even better for those affected by breast cancer

GRAND MARAIS, Minn. – Jan. 8 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Hope for snow and look for pink at this year’s John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon (beargrease.com). In an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer the Blacks from Black Magic Kennels (blackmagickennels.com) started a dog adoption program. They have partnered with Susan Prom of Pink Paddles (pinkpaddles.com) and through their partnership they hope to raise $1200 for the National Breast Care Foundation.

(c) Send2PressMost John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon race enthusiasts are thinking white for this year’s race but a few are thinking Pink. Due to the lack of good snow cover on most of the route the start date may have to be re-scheduled from January 28th to February 25th. Whether or not the weather cooperates is only a small concern for racers Mark and Mary Black from Black Magic Kennels. They are hoping for white stuff but are quite content thinking pink for this year’s race.

Mark and Mary Black are the owners and operators of Black Magic Kennels. The two of them have run the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon a combined total of 15 times with Mark taking the championship in 2004. This year something will be different about the dog team Mark will be racing with. When you see his dog team at the check points they will be wearing pink jackets.

When someone adopts a sled dog from Black Magic Kennels they will be helping save a life. Mary excitedly says, “A portion of each adoption fee will be donated to Pink Paddles and the person who adopts a dog will not only get the pink jacket but will also make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.”

While race aficionados may be thinking white for this year’s John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon getting people to think pink all year long will help the millions of people affected by breast cancer.
