WARRINGTON, Pa., Sept. 1 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Special Equestrians has been expanding its range of services this past year, first developing a program for children diagnosed with autism, then by enrolling students in off-site horse back riding shows, and now with a new Summer Camp. “The campers had a terrific time. They rode everyday, and had special programs presented by therapy dog owners, and an aviary sanctuary, and they made tie-died shirts and clay pots. It was very different from their weekly riding lessons,” says Executive Director Tammy Westney.

“Rebecca came home happy every day, and told me about all the different activities. She loved the large variety of things to do, especially bathing Suzie,” says mom Darlene Thomas, whose daughter Rebecca attended the second week of camp.

The variety of fun, yet educational activities, combined with daily riding instruction, makes for a unique experience for children with special needs. On Fridays, each section of campers invited friends and family to informal horse shows where the campers showed off the new skills and mounted games they learned during the week.

Special Equestrians, a Forbes Enterprise Award winner, is a 501(c)3 non-profit Therapeutic Riding Program located at 2800 Street Road in Warrington, Pennsylvania. Our mission is to improve the physical, mental, and emotional well being of individuals with disabilities through the equine experience.

Founded in 1982 Special Equestrians has grown from a one horse, one rider, one volunteer program to a thriving organization with 9 horses, 17 staff members, and over 100 volunteers serving 125 children and adults with emotional, mental and physical disabilities each year.
