SANTA CLARA, Calif. /Neotrope News Network/ — SecuGen, the world’s leading optical fingerprint device vendor, is pleased to announce the availability of the SecuGen iD-USB SC(TM), a combined fingerprint reader and smart card reader. The iD-USB SC is a ready to use USB device that facilitates dual-factor authentication right out of the box. The new unit is targeted at the rapidly growing number of projects and applications that combine fingerprint biometrics with smart cards. SecuGen intends to follow this product shortly with the release of a fully FIPS 201/PIV compliant version.

The SecuGen iD-USB SC reader contains SecuGen’s popular optical fingerprint sensor with a highly scratch resistant platen and comes in a desk mountable case. Like SecuGen’s other fingerprint products it is rugged, very accurate and affordable. Partners can leverage SecuGen’s wide array of drivers and SDKs for Windows, Linux, Sun Solaris, and a range of embedded operating systems.

Some key features of the SecuGen iD-USB SC are:
1) Smart Capture(TM) that takes high quality scans of traditionally difficult fingerprints
2) Auto-On(TM) that makes fingerprint reading easy and convenient
3) ISO 7816 & EMV2 2000 Level 1 compliant PC/SC smart card reader
4) Surface mountable case design.

The SecuGen iD-USB SC is the second member of SecuGen’s new and expanding iD series of biometric fingerprint readers.

“We have seen a need, very clearly from our partners, for multi-factor authentication,” stated Dan Riley, VP of Engineering for SecuGen. “Many of them have already incorporated the use of smart card readers into the systems that they deliver. The combination of fingerprint biometrics and smart cards is very powerful and enables many types of applications. We are proud of the efforts that our engineers have made in creating this product to address these needs.”

Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen, added, “We are very excited about the launch of this product. Early indications show that it fills a very real need for our partners. We are continually seeking to expand our product offerings in a way that satisfies the requirements of our reseller partners. That is our number one job. We are confident that the SecuGen iD family of biometric readers does just that.”
