According to a recent survey taken by the Department of Education, enrollment in online educational programs is still showing a substantial increase and is having a dramatic effect on education in general.
The Department of Education statistics say that in 2007 12.2 million students were enrolled in online programs with an expected increase of up to 18 million by 2012. For comparison purposes, according to Sloan Consortium’s 2005 annual review, 2.3 million students enrolled in online training programs in 2004 and only 1.98 million online students in 2003.
The number of online students is rising due to schools and colleges offering a more flexible way to gain an education and For Profit Schools are not the only schools that are seeing dramatic increases in online enrollment. More and more Universities and Colleges are now offering online degree programs as well.
