The State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization has just certified local attorney Myrlys Stockdale as a legal specialist in family law. Ms. Stockdale, 47, is the managing attorney of the marriage and family law firm Stockdale Law Firm, Inc., located in El Dorado Hills and serving clients for the past 10 years.
She is a family law mediator, and serves as court-appointed special master and court-appointed minor’s counsel in the Sacramento area.
According to the State Bar of California website, “California attorneys who are certified as specialists have taken and passed a written examination in their specialty field, demonstrated a high level of experience in the specialty field, fulfilled ongoing education requirements and been favorably evaluated by other attorneys and judges familiar with their work.”
“The road to becoming a certified family law specialist was quite a difficult and lengthy journey, but well worth the challenge because I thoroughly enjoy the work I do,” said Stockdale, who set out to practice family law after her own highly litigious matter.
Certified family law specialists have recognized expertise in all areas of California family law including divorce, annulment, property division, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, domestic violence, tax consequences of divorce, settlement negotiations, and trial of disputed family law issues.
Stockdale is one of only seven certified family law specialists in El Dorado County. There are 11 in Placer County, 55 in Sacramento County and none in Amador County. Of California’s 237,000 licensed attorneys, only 1,193 are certified family law specialists – which is roughly 0.5 percent.
From supporting the local chamber of commerce to running for local office, Stockdale is active in her community. She has been named an Outstanding Woman Leader by the National Association of Women Business Owners, Small Business of the Year by the El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce and voted Best Law Firm in El Dorado Hills by Village Life Newspapers.
