Treadstone 71 announced at the RSA Conference two new certification tracks. The Cyber Intelligence Analyst and the Cyber Counterintelligence (CI) Analyst Certifications focus upon real world, practical activities coupled with theory. The certifications enhance the overall cybersecurity posture of the United States by accelerating the availability of educational and training resources.
“Skilled cyber intelligence and CI analysts participate in the full range of attack surface reduction, OSINT gathering and OPSEC activities resulting in actionable intelligence,” said Jeff Bardin, Chief Intelligence Officer for Treadstone 71 LLC. “The certified analyst engages in activities directly related to the resiliency of government and corporate entities.”
The Certified Cyber Intelligence Analyst studies targeting, collection, production, analysis and reporting opportunities. This includes topics in online anonymity, critical thinking, analysis (cultural, pattern, link, etc.), and a focus on reporting of actionable intelligence.
The Certified Cyber CI Analyst becomes proficient in active cyber CI operations blending theoretical study and live exercises effectively equipping analysts. Topics in denial, counterdenial, deception, counterdeception, perception management are covered.
“Adversaries conduct cyber operations collecting intelligence, disrupting and degrading our cyber operational readiness,” continued Bardin. “Intellectual property is very attractive to adversary exploitation.”
The National Counterintelligence Executive states that CI plays a critical role in reversing the benefits that cyber operations afford our adversaries. Cyber CI collection and analysis increases our understanding of the adversary and how to defend against them. CI operations help identify adversarial tactics reducing the effectiveness of their operations. Collectively, these CI activities increase the cost and risk of our adversaries’ operations while reducing their benefits. CI plays a critical role in enhancing the cybersecurity posture of the United States.
“Adversaries conduct inexpensive operations against our infrastructure resulting in high returns with a low degree of risk in a very short period of time,” stated Bardin. “Adversaries use the Internet to bolster their intelligence activities against the U.S. It is critical that we equip cybersecurity and intelligence professionals with the capabilities to counter these threats.”
The Certified Cyber Intelligence Analyst track starts April 2 and the Certified Cyber CI will be operational during the early summer of 2012.
