Awareness of Technology Solutions for Fraudulent Campaign Websites Increases

WASHINGTON, D.C. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — At a first of a kind opportunity on Capitol Hill, members of Congress, congressional staffers, senior policy experts, and the staff of the Bush Administration will have the chance to view ElectionMall(TM) Technologies’ Election Security(TM) Seal Program (www.electionsecurity.com) at the Congressional Internet Advisory Committee Reception and Technology Fair.

The “Election Security(TM) Seal Program,” part of ElectionMall’s eGovMall division, is the Internet’s first and only real-time Identity Assurance infrastructure for Web sites. It provides an online environment in which visitors are assured they are dealing with the legitimate Web sites of candidates, campaigns, 527’s, political action groups, and other political organizations.

The increasing popularity of the Internet in politics through online fund-raising and communication messaging to voters has spawned the creation of fraudulent Web sites. Notable victims of campaign fraud include the campaigns of Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Senator John Kerry (D-MA), and President George W. Bush. Most recently, this past year many of Americans were taken advantage of by hundreds of fraudulent fund-raising Web sites that claimed to be raising money for Katrina victims.

Former FEC Chairman Scott Thomas supports ElectionMall’s work and an immediate solution to eliminate the fears of fraudulent political Web sites.

“I support technological advances that help citizens campaigning on the Internet feel assured they are dealing with legitimate Web sites,” said Scott Thomas, Former Chairman of the Federal Election Commission in a written statement. “This can only foster more confidence in those campaigns and other players in the political process that rely on the Internet.”

With the Election Security Seal Program, Chief Election Officials are able to validate campaign Web sites and if the candidate chooses they are able to add a security seal to their website with click-to-verify(TM) technology to let the voter know they are visiting and interacting on an authentic site.

Lead by Kentucky Secretary of State, Trey Grayson, the Commonwealth of Kentucky is the first state in the union to implement this technology and will soon be joined by the Secretary of State of New Mexico, Rebecca Vigil-Giron, in tackling the growing problem of fraudulent campaign Web sites.

“It is great to see that Capital Hill is beginning to recognize the leadership and foresight of Secretary Grayson and Secretary Vigil-Giron, as they take proactive steps for a more secure election process,” said Ravi Singh, CEO of ElectionMall Technologies and founder of the concept. “I believe that it is only a matter of time before action is taken on Capital Hill to support and complement the efforts at the state and local level and to remove fraudulent Web sites from campaigns and elections.”

The reception and technology fair will take place at the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room SDG-50 from 5:00 – 7:00 and is hosted by its co-chairs Senators Conrad Burns (R-MT) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT), and Congressmen Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Rick Boucher (D-VA), and Wireless Task Force Chair, Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA).
