Dayton Woman’s Club partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, expected to deliver $1,300 in annual utility savings

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- The Dayton Woman's Club (DWC), an organization with roots that reach back 100 years into Dayton's past, is continuing with its efforts to blend the best of the past with the best of the present. It just completed a project to bring its lighting systems up to 21st century technology through a partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA.

The Dayton Woman's Club, established in 1916 by a group of civic-minded women, and celebrating its 100th birthday this year, and is housed in a 168-year-old mansion that is on the National Register of Historic Places. Energy Optimizers, USA, recently replaced the building's outdated and inefficient lighting systems with state-of-the-art LED lighting. The new lighting will use an average of 60 percent less energy and lasts up to 5 times longer than the lighting that was in place.

The improved efficiency is expected to yield $1,300 in annual savings.

"One of our goals is the preservation and maintenance of our historic building, and upgrading our lighting systems will enable us to further this mission," said Deb McNeff, president of the Woman's Club of Dayton Foundation, the 501c3 development arm of the DWC. "The savings that result from this relatively simple project will enable us to make additional improvements over time to ensure our building lasts another century or more."

Energy Optimizers, USA, has additionally assisted the DWC with obtaining DRG Green Business certification. The certification is awarded by Dayton Regional Green in recognition of organizations that take voluntary steps to protect, preserve and improve the environment. To qualify, organizations must complete an application that documents their efforts to reduce and recycle solid waste, make environmentally preferable purchases, conserve energy and water, and prevent pollution. Organizations must also complete an energy audit of their facilities.

"We are proud to be partnering with an organization that has both a storied history in our community and a commitment to advanced, energy efficient systems," said Greg Smith, Energy Optimizers, USA, president. "The Dayton Woman's Club is making an investment not just in the future of their building, but in the future of the community through improved resource stewardship."

The $15,000 project is funded in part with a grant from the Dayton Foundation. The project was completed in June of 2016.

Cambridge City Schools Green Team Closes Out Busy Year of Educational Activities

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- The Cambridge City Schools Green Team, a student group focused on sustainability that is sponsored by Energy Optimizers, USA, made tremendous progress on advancing energy-related education during the school year.

The Green Team is a component of the district's partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, to improve energy efficiency by upgrading the lighting, building controls and air filtration systems at all seven of its buildings. As part of the project, Energy Optimizers, USA, assisted the district with creating its Green Team to engage students, staff and the community in developing, promoting and implementing numerous energy savings and sustainability programs throughout the district.

"Our Green Team has been exceptionally busy this year with not just learning about basic energy principles and energy conservation, but also with sharing their knowledge with other students throughout the district," said Angee Hannon, 6th grade teacher at Cambridge Middle School. "The programming is helping all of our students connect what they learn in the classroom with applications in the real world and providing them with the means to think more broadly about career options that are available to them."

In addition to meeting daily during the 2015-2016 school year, the Green Team led numerous projects throughout the district. The team designed, developed and demonstrated an Energy Bike for use in science classes; recorded and shared digital media messages with the school body; led an Energy Round Up activity for all science classes; participated in a snap circuits activity and an energy relay activity; and studied energy and lighting. In addition, the students presented to the Cambridge City Schools Board of Education in April and took a tour of the Cambridge Middle School mechanical rooms. A Watts Up activity challenged students to determine the wattage of common household appliances, and students calculated the energy and cost savings from replacing the lighting systems at their school.

"We closed out the year with big plans for next school year," noted Angee Hannon. "We plan to build on our accomplishments and strengthen leadership and learning opportunities for our Green Team members."

Oak Hills Local Schools Green Team lays the groundwork for zero-waste cafeterias

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- Oak Hills Local Schools will start off the 2016-2017 school year with zero-waste tables in all of its cafeterias, thanks in part to the groundwork laid by the district's Green Team, a student-led conservation and sustainability group sponsored by Energy Optimizers, USA.

The zero-waste tables will help each building minimize how much trash goes to the landfill by enabling students and staff to separate their waste into compost, recyclables and trash. The idea originated with Oak Hills teachers Debbie Stallo and Michele Taylor, who also help guide the district's Green Team.

"Throughout the year, our Green Team has really helped our district focus its efforts related to energy conservation and sustainability practices into educational opportunities for the entire student body," said Todd Yohey. "The students on our Green Team have not only learned volumes about energy conservation and sustainability principles, they have shared their knowledge with others while developing resume-building leadership skills."

The Green Team is a component of the district's $4 million energy enhancement project with Energy Optimizers, USA. The project will improve the comfort, control and reliability of the district's HVAC and lighting systems while significantly reducing operational costs. As part of the project, Energy Optimizers, USA, sponsored the development of the Green Team to engage students, staff and the community in developing, promoting and implementing numerous energy savings and sustainability programs throughout the district.

The addition of the zero-waste tables capped off an active year for the Green Team.

Last June, Taylor accompanied four middle school girls to Columbus to participate in the AEGIS Energy Bike program, during which the girls built and learned how to use an energy demonstration bike. Also in June, Stallo participated in the three-day Ohio Energy Project Energy Sources Tour, where she toured AEP corporate offices, a school with solar panels, a wind turbine, a coal-fired power plant and the Ohio State energy-related research facilities.

In October, a group of Green Team students participated in the Ohio Energy Project Leadership Summit. The leadership summit is designed to teach energy-related activities to students so they can return to their home districts and share those activities with classes and groups.

And in May, the Green Team placed 10th overall out of 100 competitors at the Caring for Our Watershed competition at the Cincinnati Zoo.

"We are proud of our students and thankful for the opportunities made available to us through the creation of our Green Team," said Todd Yohey.

Partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, expected to net $88K savings annually for Ripley Union Lewis Huntington Local Schools

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- Ripley Union Lewis Huntington Local Schools has partnered with Energy Optimizers, USA, to improve the district's energy efficiency performance for an expected guaranteed savings of nearly $88,000 annually.

The $883,000 project includes energy savings enhancements at the elementary, middle and high school buildings. Upgrades to existing building automation systems and advanced energy management programming will be key components to the project. Numerous lighting upgrades to both the interior and exterior of each facility will significantly reduce the electrical load district-wide. Funding is provided through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make these cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers. The project is expected to begin soon and be completed in September 2016.

"We will replace outdated, inefficient systems with state-of-the-art energy efficient technology for a significant savings to our taxpayers," said Treasurer Jeff Rowley. "We will not need to request money from our community to fund this project, and the savings will pay back project costs in less than 10 years."

"Of even greater importance, our students will benefit from better lighting and an improved, more comfortable learning environment. We will also be able to reduce the amount of tax dollars that we spend on utility bills and related maintenance costs over the long term," added Superintendent Linda Naylor.

In total, Energy Optimizers, USA will:
* Replace interior and exterior lighting with LED lights
* Upgrade the district's building automation system with advanced energy conservation technology
* Implement building envelope sealing and weatherization
* Install energy-saving features in the kitchen
* Install a 1kW educational solar array at Ripley High School.

"This project is an investment in the community and the future," said Greg Smith, Energy Optimizers, USA, president and CEO. "The district is taking greater control over its budget in relation to utility and maintenance costs, and taxpayers benefit by knowing more dollars will go where they count-into the classroom."

This project has come to the attention of the Ohio Legislature.
"It is important that we do whatever we are able to in order to help preserve our state's natural resources," said State Senator Joe Uecker. "The partnership between Ripley Union Lewis Huntington Local Schools and Energy Optimizers, USA, is a great step in helping ensure that we are protecting these resources while giving back and improving the community for our future generations."

Lightway Solar America Executes 62.8 MW Solar Project Development Pipeline

Author: Lightway Solar America, Inc.
Dateline: Iselin, New Jersey (ISELIN, N.J.)  | Fri, 26 Oct 2012

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Lightway Solar America, Inc. (LSA), the U.S. subsidiary of Lightway Green New Energy Co., Ltd. (LGNE), has announced the execution of 62.8 Megawatts of contracts through their project development subsidiary, Lightway Solar America Project Development, LLC (LWSA PD).”

A R T I C L E:

Lightway Solar America, Inc. (LSA), the U.S. subsidiary of Lightway Green New Energy Co., Ltd. (LGNE), has announced the execution of 62.8 Megawatts of contracts through their project development subsidiary, Lightway Solar America Project Development, LLC (LWSA PD). Lightway has implemented a sales model in which 11.9 MW of solar panels will be invested into these projects in exchange for equity positions with a commitment from their project partners to purchase the remaining 50.9 MW through executed supply agreements.

The project pipeline consists of 11 different solar project development partners with a pipeline of projects ranging from 250 kw to 4.8 MW spread throughout New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Arizona and California. Projects will begin construction immediately with 21 MW scheduled for Q4 2012 and 42 MW to be built throughout 2013.

During an era where the U.S. solar industry is challenged with oversupply, decreasing prices and project financing bottlenecks, Lightway has aggressively implemented sales models that focus on bankability, downstream financial solutions, and strategic distribution channels. In less than 2 years, Lightway's U.S. subsidiary has already executed over 98 MW of supply agreements and is expecting their project development subsidiary to create additional growth opportunities in 2013.

William Sien, President of LWSA PD, said: "The earlier trends of integrating upstream have been successful in under-supplied markets, however, we recognize that in today's market of oversupply and project financing difficulties, moving further downstream into project ownership will be a key factor towards our future growth and sustainability. Although our primary business model and expertise will remain in solar module manufacturing, we foresee project development and ownership of photovoltaic projects as key drivers to supplement our solar module sales throughout the North America region."

Wei Na, Global Sales and Marketing VP of LGNE, parent company of LSA, further commented: "We are excited about the project pipeline, whose strong commercial and residential presence in U.S. provides us with an excellent opportunity as we operate our business in the U.S. We are confident our high-quality solar modules and customer service will contribute to the growth of the solar industry as a whole."

About Lightway Green New Energy Co., Ltd.:

Lightway Green New Energy is world class, vertically integrated solar panel manufacturer with 660 MW of balanced, production capacity that incorporates ingot, wafer, cell and module manufacturing. The manufacturing plant is located in a futuristic Science and Technology Park based in Gaobeidian, China that spans 2.3M square feet and is the home to over 5,000 employees.

With a strong financial portfolio and the support of their strategic partnerships, Lightway will continue to expand and plans to reach 1,500 MW in 2014. One of the strategic markets for Lightway is the development of the U.S. region through their subsidiary, Lightway Solar America with a sales office in New Jersey and warehouses on the east and west coast.

Crane and Rigging Specialists Team with Union Iron Workers on Big Lifts for Gulf Coast Refineries and Plants

Author: Iron Workers Union
Dateline: Houston, Texas (HOUSTON, Texas)  | Tue, 09 Oct 2012

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Along the Gulf Coast signs of an energy boom seem evident - from the recent $3 billion addition to Valero's Port Arthur refinery to the massive $7 billion Motiva expansion still underway; more new construction, upgrades and heavy maintenance is on the books as oil and energy giants along the Gulf crescent are beefing up their plants and contemplating new ones to meet the future, according to Iron Workers District Council of Texas and the Mid-South States.”

A R T I C L E:

Along the Gulf Coast signs of an energy boom seem evident - from the recent $3 billion addition to Valero's Port Arthur refinery to the massive $7 billion Motiva expansion still underway; more new construction, upgrades and heavy maintenance is on the books as oil and energy giants along the Gulf crescent are beefing up their plants and contemplating new ones to meet the future, according to Iron Workers District Council of Texas and the Mid-South States.

Specialty big lift crane and rigging companies Deep South Crane and Rigging (www.deepsouthcrane.com) and Maxim Crane Works (www.maximcrane.com) will play a critical role in the new construction, expansions, upgrades and maintenance ahead for the industrial behemoths that populate the Gulf Coast. These specialists are well-prepared for the rising surge in U.S. energy, oil and gas production, as signatory contractors Maxim and Deep South rely on union Iron Workers and operators to man up the critical big lifts that are their unsurpassed specialty serving the multi-billion dollar industrial plants and refineries edging along the Gulf from Texas to Florida.

Prime resources for their clients, some of the biggest energy, oil and gas companies in the world, Deep South and Maxim supply the highly specialized cranes, transport equipment and the well-trained, credentialed labor required to execute heavy and critical path lifts intrinsic in the construction, operation and maintenance of industrial plants and modern refineries. Theirs is an industry specialty not just any company can drop in and do.

Maxim Crane and Deep South are long-standing Gulf Coast signatory contractors with the Iron Workers Union (www.ironworkerstxmidsouth.com), a relationship both companies consider key to their success in securing and executing the demanding work they do for world-leading oil and gas companies Valero, BP, Exxon/Mobil, Shell and others. As Iron Worker signatories Deep South and Maxim have virtually unrivaled manpower resources that allow them to take on bigger challenges and execute even the biggest jobs.

"Being signatory gives us the capability to go out and compete for big projects," says Bruce Smiley, Senior Account Manager for Maxim Crane Works in Texas City. "We can do turnarounds turnkey, supplying the cranes, Iron Worker riggers and crane operators to do the job."

Craig Stanford, Field Operations Manager in Houston for Deep South, whose company did the big lifts for the monumental Motiva refinery expansion, says the Texas and Mid-South Iron Worker locals he routinely works with on the Gulf Coast strive to give his company what it needs to compete successfully. "The Iron Workers Union here has really worked hard to figure out what our needs are and what we'll need in order to satisfy our client requirements. They go well beyond what would reasonably be expected to make sure that their folks possess the skills and credentials we have to have in order to put these guys to work on major projects. They are very professional - very well-managed. It is a real client/provider relationship - not an adversarial one."

The Iron Workers Union constantly trains up and credentials their men as technology and requirements evolve in their areas of specialty. "Whenever a new test, or certification comes along whether it's required by the owners, OSHA or other agencies - owners, contractors and companies like Deep South, Riggers International and Maxim know that the Iron Workers will jump to the forefront to make sure our guys are trained to meet that particular need," says Richard Dee, Business Manager for the Iron Workers local 135 in Galveston.

"Safety is critical in the work we do - everything has to be perfect down to the smallest detail," says Larry Savell, Business Manager for Iron Workers local 469 in Mississippi where some 350 union Iron Workers recently completed work on the nation's first nuclear plant uprate - a massive upgrade at Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant which generates the largest nuclear energy output in the U.S. "Nuclear equipment is immensely heavy, solid and awkward to move," says Savell. "The Grand Gulf contractors called the union Iron Workers in because they know our men have the training, documented experience and certifications needed. If we say a man can do a job - he can do it. In the nuclear energy industry you cannot hire people off the street."

Ed Vargocko, Business Manager for the Iron Workers local 84 in Houston agrees. "In big lifts and critical path lifts there is no room for error. Doing it right is mandatory. That's what we do."
