K. Gabriel Heiser, Author of ‘Medicaid Secrets,’ to Discuss Medicaid Planning on the John Stossel Fox-TV Show

Author: Phylius Press
Dateline: Nashville, Tennessee Mon, 22 Mar 2010

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- K. Gabriel Heiser, attorney and author of the best-selling book 'How to Protect Your Family's Assets from Devastating Nursing Home Costs: Medicaid Secrets' (Phylius Press 2010; ISBN: 978-0979080159), will be interviewed on the John Stossel Fox TV show Stossel, on Thursday, March 25.”

A R T I C L E:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. /Neotrope News Network/ -- K. Gabriel Heiser, attorney and author of the best-selling book "How to Protect Your Family's Assets from Devastating Nursing Home Costs: Medicaid Secrets" (ISBN: 978-0979080159; Phylius Press 2010), will be interviewed on the John Stossel Fox TV show Stossel, on Thursday, March 25.

John Stossel, former co-anchor of the long-running ABC News show 20/20 and now on Fox TV, will interview attorney and author Heiser as part of an hour-long show looking at the future of entitlements such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid in the U.S., in light of their increasing costs as the Baby Boomer generation ages.

Heiser was selected to appear on the show -- which taped last week -- because of the topic of his book, which addresses how people can protect their assets through legal means while qualifying for Medicaid to pay their nursing home bills.

"It was exciting being on the Stossel show, and more importantly, it gave me a chance to explain the role of Medicaid planning," said Heiser. "John asked me some tough questions, and I had to explain how Medicaid planning is no different from tax planning: in each case, you are simply making use of the laws that Congress has passed, to your best advantage. There is nothing illegal, sneaky, or even unpatriotic about that!"

Heiser has been an attorney specializing in elder care and estate planning for 25 years, helping people pay for nursing home care without having to deplete their assets. His book, available at www.MedicaidSecrets.com, discusses the importance of advance planning to protect assets in the event of an upcoming nursing home stay; what to do if there is not enough time to plan; how to protect your home; what the penalties are for making gifts and when they can be ignored; and how to utilize "Medicaid-friendly" annuities as an asset protection device.

The show will air this Thursday (March 25) (on the Fox Business Network) at 8 p.m. ET. It re-runs that night at 11 p.m. ET, Friday at 10pm ET, Saturday at 7 p.m. ET, and Sunday at 10 p.m. ET. To find your local Fox Business network channel, go here and enter your zip code: www.foxbusiness.com/channel_finder.html/ . If you miss the live broadcast, it will be available via the online archive: www.foxbusiness.com/on-air/stossel/ .

The Future of Theater is Looking Up with Suspended Cirque

Author: Suspended Cirque
Dateline: New York, New York Wed, 17 Mar 2010

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Suspended Cirque is New York City's first Aerial Circus Theater troupe. Aerial Circus Theater, sometimes called 'Nouveau Cirque,' has already become an established performance genre outside of the U.S. thanks to performance companies like Cirkus Cirkor of Sweden, Seven Fingers and Cirque Eloize of Canada, and the Thieree family of France. Using narrative, song and choreography along with the circus acts, these troupes create their shows through the individuality and the artistry of the performers.”

A R T I C L E:

NEW YORK, N.Y. /Neotrope News Network/ -- It seems like everyone saw Pink's aerial act at the Grammys. Circus skills are no longer relegated to the big top - the general public expects to see someone fly at any big event, whether at a private party or at the opera. Performers of all types are now being pushed to make their performances riskier and more exciting. At the same time, circus performers are finding that just skill is not enough. Tricks and the classic "Ta-dah" moment seem hackneyed these days. So, what's next for the entertainment industry? Introducing Aerial Circus Theater, a new theater movement now being performed in New York City by Suspended Cirque.

Suspended Cirque is New York City's first Aerial Circus Theater troupe. Aerial Circus Theater, sometimes called "Nouveau Cirque," has already become an established performance genre outside of the U.S. thanks to performance companies like Cirkus Cirkor of Sweden, Seven Fingers and Cirque Eloize of Canada, and the Thieree family of France. Using narrative, song and choreography along with the circus acts, these troupes create their shows through the individuality and the artistry of the performers.

It was not that long ago that an aerialist would try to explain their profession, and be met with confused looks. Considered an art form as opposed to a style of entertainment, the general public had difficulty understanding where, when and why an aerialist's skills would come in handy. Over the years, however, Cirque du Soleil has done for circus what Starbucks has done for coffee: made it ubiquitous, upped the standard, increased the price point, and made the art form necessary.

Now the public demands more physical bang for their buck. While they still enjoy the big tricks, they also look for performances that aren't merely a spectacle of physical acts. Take Pink's Grammy performance for example. In no way technically challenging for a circus performer, the act was nevertheless impressive due to the fact she was also singing, and the visuals were stunning.

Thus, a door opens for Aerial Circus Theater in the U.S. Aerial Circus Theater relies heavily on the unique skill set of each performer. Shows are less codified and formulaic, far more personal, and riskier to produce in that replacing any of the performers due to injury or illness affects the storyline and the effectiveness of the show. Yet, at the same time, Aerial Circus Theater also offers the advantage of being more intimate, more unique, and less expensive than the large, slick circuses currently dominating entertainment venues.

In New York City, Suspended Cirque is the first company using circus acts to convey a comprehensible and human narrative. The company turns the traditional cirque performer from an inaccessible superhuman/mystical creature to a real person who is relatable to audience members.

"With Cirque du Soleil shows, the athletes are so perfect, and there is so much happening all at the same time, I find I get desensitized to the difficulty of the tricks," admits Eren Rosenfeld, a fan of both Cirque du Soleil and Suspended Cirque. "In a Suspended Cirque show, I can see the humanity of the performers, which makes all the difficult tricks that they do seem even more impressive."

What distinguishes Suspended Cirque from other Aerial Circus Theater troupes, is how the members show their vulnerability as humans first and their physical talents second. Each company member is responsible for creating his/her own role within the greater context of the show as well as creating the individual acts. Having the same person act as the playwright, the director and the performer means that bits of that person's personality show through and are amplified in the final character. The result is that no performer is ever simply executing a series of tricks, but rather expressing a part of his/herself. The audience feels genuinely connected to the performers, sometimes being inspired to reach out and touch them, in this dynamic exploration of Art imitating Life.

Suspended Cirque was founded by five veterans of the performing arts world: Joshua Dean, Michelle Dortignac, Benjamin Franklin, Angela Jones and Kristin Olness. Members have been seen on Broadway in Cabaret, The Joyce Theater, Lincoln Center, and performed with such names as Twyla Tharp. Between the five of them, a wide range of artistic skill is represented, including but not limited to Broadway-style singing, championship acrobatics, playing the classical clarinet, and Japanese Butoh movement. Suspended Cirque members capitalize on their breadth of knowledge and skill in every production they create.

Within only a year, Suspended Cirque has created 4 different shows, many performed to sold-out houses. Currently Artists-In-Residence at the Galapagos Art Space in Dumbo, Brooklyn, it appears New York City audiences enjoy this newcomer to performance. Aerial Circus Theater, and Suspended Cirque, has arrived.

SAN JOSE, Calif. /Neotrope News Network/ -- ArtsRanch, Performing Arts Training Center in Northern California (www.artsranch.com) has announced a three-week summer camp in July 2010 at the Coloma Resort. Founded in 2009 by Jacob Brent, (Mr. Mistoffelees in CATS - Broadway, London and film), who also serves as Artistic Director, ArtsRanch features Broadway performers as guest teaching artists, all of whom are dedicated to training and nurturing young talent and developing the performing artists of the future.

Bringing a bit of Broadway out west, ArtsRanch is a residential performing arts camp that provides a total theater immersion experience for performers between the ages of 13-18. At ArtsRanch, students experience individual instruction from notable industry professionals with credits from Broadway, national tours, television, and film. Students perform in a full-length Broadway musical production while attending master classes in voice, acting, dance, and audition technique; all culminating in a performance for family and friends the final weekend.

Brent says, "This summer camp is exactly the place I wish I could have attended when I was growing up. My mission was to create an environment where young actors come together to discover there are other theater fanatics just like them. I find it exciting to see young people from all over the country realize they all know every word to Oklahoma! or Wicked."

ArtsRanch encourages students to build a professional work ethic while enjoying the excitement of a summer camp and making lifelong friendships with others that are passionate about theatre.

"The greatest reward for me," Brent says "is seeing young actors come to ArtsRanch unaware of their full artistic potential and after three weeks time, perform their hearts out on stage with confidence and a sense of true achievement."

Joining Brent at ArtsRanch this season are guest artists, Erich Bergen, whose credits include Jersey Boys (1st National and Vegas), Forum (Reprise, LA) and the CW television hit, Gossip Girl; and Etai Benshlomo, Boq from the San Francisco production of Wicked. Brad Simmons returns as resident musical director. Simmons is most recognized as The Pianist in the cult film Camp, and is an established performer, composer, musical director and vocal coach in New York City. Joining Simmons will be Kristen Lee Rosenfeld, musical director and conductor on the 1st National Tour of the Tony-award winning Broadway musical Spring Awakening. Other guest artists and staff will be announced in the coming months.

ArtsRanch is currently accepting applications for the 2010 summer session to be held July 19th through August 8th at the Coloma Resort in Northern California. For more information visit http://www.artsranch.com . Stay up to date on the latest news by becoming a fan of ArtsRanch on Facebook.

About Jacob Brent:

Jacob Brent is best known for his portrayal of Mr. Mistoffelees in the Broadway, London, and Video productions of CATS where he worked closely with its creator, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. He is the only performer to have appeared in all three and the only actor to have performed in both record breaking performances of the longest-running show on Broadway and in London's West End. Brent's experience working with teens includes five years at Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center. He teaches musical theater and jazz classes at Steps on Broadway Dance Studio in NYC, and has been a guest faculty member at NYU, Santa Clara University, and the North Carolina School of the Arts.

SAN PEDRO, Calif. /Neotrope News Network/ -- Theater troupe Midnight Insanity and The World Mind Network are organizing a benefit comedy show for victims of the Haiti earthquake. Standing up for Haiti will take place at the historic Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro, California on March 14 at 6 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the Haiti Fund of Doctors Without Borders.

There is a full schedule of headlining comedians who tour, headline and appear on television internationally. In addition to top billed comedians plying their trade for the benefit of those in need of continued medical attention in the wake of the January disaster, there will be a speaker offering a brief discussion of the importance of the Haitian nation to the United States throughout history, as well as a synopsis of what is currently happening and what is needed to aid in the recovery.

The Haitian National Anthem will be presented by The Apostolic Church of God Choir, L.A.'s largest Haitian Church. Many members of the church themselves lost loved ones in the quake.

There will be a short film by the students of CineInstitute in Jacmel, Haiti who filmed the devastation after their school crumbled around them.

The events taking place are tragic, and are in and of themselves not to be considered funny, but the event organizers feel that anything that can be done to help, must be done. Eight comedians currently booked and counting -- all capable of headlining their own show -- all on one stage united in a very special cause, doing what they do best to help others.

Confirmed acts include Jason Canning, Dakota, Bruce Jingles, Natalie Gray, Michaela Meyers, Lucas Dick, Maria Del Prete and John Clark.

Tickets available at tix.com keyword Warner Grand or go to event Website www.StandingUpForHaiti.com (redirects to MySpace page).

Savannah-based Paragon Design Group Completes Broadcast Design Package for The Weather Channel

Author: Paragon Design Group
Dateline: Savannah, Georgia Wed, 10 Feb 2010

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah-based, award-winning Paragon Design Group has recently helped brand and package, 'Cantore Stories,' the newest HD show from The Weather Channel. This is Paragon's second hire by the national cable channel, its first being a refreshed package for 'Day Planner,' a weekday show that airs from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the station.”

A R T I C L E:

SAVANNAH, Ga. /Neotrope News Network/ -- Savannah-based, award-winning Paragon Design Group has recently helped brand and package, "Cantore Stories," the newest HD show from The Weather Channel. This is Paragon's second hire by the national cable channel, its first being a refreshed package for "Day Planner," a weekday show that airs from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the station.

"Part of why we love these larger broadcast design projects is that they give us more opportunities to create and flesh out our ideas due to the inter-connected nature of a Show Package," said Paragon's Lead Creative Juicer, Andrew Davies. "Plus we get to do it from the comfort of our slice of paradise here in Savannah, Georgia, even though our clients are increasingly based in other parts of the country or overseas."

Paragon is headed by three Savannah College of Art and Design alumni, Andrew Davies, Susan Isaacs and Philip Joyner, who all made a conscious decision to trade big-city bustle for coastal-community charisma. After almost nine years in business, the decision continues to pay off in unimaginable ways.

"When we show our work to national clients they are sometimes surprised that this is the caliber of work coming out of such a small town," commented Susan Isaacs, Paragon's Head Strategic Focus-izer, "but more often than not, they immediately get the connection to SCAD as a huge talent resource, and quite frankly it's not uncommon for them to say they've visited Savannah and would love to live here, too!"

Specifically for "Cantore Stories," Paragon flexed its broadcast design muscle by creating the show's logo and then providing the network with a kit of motion-graphic parts to be used for flexibility in assembling transitions, promos and other sequences. The primary challenge they had to creatively overcome was the need to develop a customized end title treatment to correspond with the show's differing locations and weather conditions. Knowing they couldn't possibly produce all of the necessary parts for each individual show, Paragon capably met the show's request by designing templates based on four major color schemes that would give The Weather Channel's team of animators the ability to create future show elements with ease, all while remaining true to the brand.

"Since we knew we were going to be handing over the project files to TWC's animators, we made sure that all of the effects we created were done without any special third-party plug-ins. This gave them complete freedom to re-purpose specific elements without risk of incompatibility between our machines and theirs," remarked Davies.

As for The Weather Channel's approval of the end product? "We had a vision for Cantore Stories and Paragon turned our words into reality," stated Ray Sams, Creative Director of Programming and Production at TWC. "During the RFP process, a member of our review committee asked me who created the winning design pitch, an agency from New York or LA? When I replied Paragon was located in Savannah a few eyebrows raised. Paragon delivered a killer package and continues to draw attention to the Creative Coast."

Of course, as any design studio would be, Paragon was thrilled to dig into its own toy chest of design applications and get to work. Their tools of choice? 3D elements were created in Cinema4D leaving the rest, including simulated weather elements and compositing, to Adobe After Effects.

"One of the challenges we've had to adapt to has been the move to HD," said Philip Joyner, Paragon's Head Production Maverick. "We're dealing with some pretty large files but with some creative asset management in-house, we're able to handle the rendering and storage of 1080p HD digital files, and deliver them with no problems. We deal with revisions and approval all online and digitally send final files via FTP. As we grow to meet even larger challenges, we now have an ally in another Savannah company, Meddin Studios, which allows for faster delivery, asset-management, and previews. With these options available, we can work with anyone, anywhere!"

The Weather Channel has always taken an innovative approach in the creation of stimulating weather programming, which aligned perfectly with Paragon's style of creative design. TWC continues in this spirit with the addition of such improvements as enhancing graphics, maps and programming for local forecasts and national broadcasts, along with programming in High Definition (HD) from a new 12,500-square-foot facility. TWC will continue to strengthen their competitive position by delivering more visually impactful programming that gives the audience a vivid experience.

Paragon Design Group is known for creating smart design for evolving brands. Whether designing for motion graphics, print or Web, Paragon loves working with clients who are passionate about what they do and are ready to take their brands to the next level. As individuals, the members of Paragon are admittedly a little whacky, but when it comes to client work, they couldn't be more serious.
