MEDIA ADVISORY: Local Anchor Teams Up with The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to Launch Kindness Card Initiative as Part of Annual ‘Season of Sharing’

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Local Anchor joins the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to kick off the annual "Season for Sharing" campaign. Local Anchor will mobilize the South Bay Los Angeles communities with a Kindness Cards initiative to bring a personal touch to food delivery around Thanksgiving time.

The campaign begins with a Local Anchor squad of 25+ volunteers to help assemble food packages for over 29,000 low-income seniors, women with infants, and children in Los Angeles County.

WHEN: Sat., Oct. 1, 2022 - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE: Los Angeles Regional Food Bank - NEW CITY OF INDUSTRY LOCATION, 2300 Pellissier Place, City of Industry, CA 90601

WHY: LA County is home to more food insecure children than any other county in the nation. The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is the central resource for the supply and distribution of food for people in need throughout LA County. In cooperation with hundreds of partner agencies, the Food Bank serves hundreds of thousands of people each month.

Because we believe kindness matters and starts in our communities, Local Anchor is teaming up with the Los Angeles Food Bank's 2022 "Season for Sharing" campaign. Local Anchor is partnering with local schools and families for a special Thanksgiving Kindness card-making project throughout the fall. Kids and families throughout the South Bay community will be asked to make unique Thanksgiving Kindness Cards that will be distributed by the Food Bank along with food during the 2022 holiday season so that recipients receive personal messages of support and care. The Local Anchor Kindness Card project is with support from First Republic Bank and Sylvan Learning.

South Bay-based Parents Network Rebrands as Local Anchor with National Expansion Underway

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -- South Bay Mommies & Daddies, a popular Los Angeles area community platform for parents that boasts nearly 8,000 members, is rebranding and expanding as Local Anchor after being selected for the 2021 Facebook Community Accelerator Program.

Local Anchor launched today as a national media company centered around community giving opportunities, content and connection for parents. National resources launched today, with geo-specific groups being added on a rolling basis throughout the next year. Local Anchor will continue to operate its original forum, renamed as South Bay Parents - A Local Anchor Community, launch a National Facebook group: Local Anchor - A Parenting Community for Kindness & Giving Back, with Los Angeles and Orange County outposts coming soon.

Local Anchor founder Laura Stotland was selected as one of 131 Facebook Community Accelerator program recipients globally, out of more than 13,000 applicants, based on demonstrated impact in the community and ability to scale to other markets.

"This is the opportunity to take the best parts of what we've been able to manifest in this tight-knit parenting community and expand to new markets, with the mission of helping foster a national culture of kindness, one community at a time," said Local Anchor founder Laura Stotland.

Local Anchor will provide the platform, tools, ideas and mentorship to encourage families to develop community ties and opportunities to give back, volunteer, and build supportive communities. This continues the foundation of South Bay Mommies & Daddies, which has mounted community giving campaigns including Project South Bay Heroes (a crowd-sourced pandemic program that brought in $15,000 to purchase over 1,000 meals for healthcare workers from local eateries), a South Bay Crayon Collection initiative, and a long-running annual homemade Valentine's Day card collection program benefiting patients in local hospitals.
