Aeroscape’s Snow and Ice Management Fleet is Ready to Take on Winter

Midvale, Utah -- The rest of the year, Aeroscape is an award-winning property maintenance and landscape design company, but during the winter, Aeroscape becomes your commercial snow removal specialists ready to take on even the biggest winter storms.

Aeroscape Invests in Snow and Ice Management Equipment

Aeroscape has made a significant investment in its snow and ice management equipment over the last several years, including purchasing dozens of new trucks, poly-blades for parking structures, as well as winter storm-specific upgrades, including new box plows for our front-end loaders and skid-steers.

"It was time to upgrade our investment in snow and ice management equipment," says Ryan Brown, President/CEO of Aeroscape. "Our retail and large commercial properties required faster response times and quicker snow and ice removal, so we took the plunge and upgraded our fleet."

Aeroscape not only invested in new snow removal equipment for parking lots, access roads, and parking garages but added snow blowers specifically designed to handle sidewalks and entries. They also outfit their landscaping fleet to manage Utah's storms, including preparing front-end loaders for snow stacking, and when that is too much, transferring snow to the fleet of dump trucks or side-dump trailers to haul the snow off-site. They also stock up on road salt and ice melt to help keep the cleared parking lots and garages, sidewalks, and parking lots snow and ice-free for all. Aeroscape goes through 100,000 tons of road salt and over 100 tons of snowmelt on average each year.

"Nothing goes to waste here at Aeroscape. During the winter, our crew remains on the alert for winter storms. Once the storm arrives, we transform into a fast and efficient snow removal fleet," says Chad Spenser, Chief Operating Officer at Aeroscape.

Aeroscape's Winter Storm Operations Center

Aeroscape is on-call 24/7 when a winter storm threatens and activates a winter storm call center to coordinate snow removal efforts for their clients. Because Aeroscape uses GPS tracking on all of their heavy equipment, the call center can dispatch snow removal fleets at a moment's notice to where they are needed most. For more information, give us a call at 801.569.2383 or fill out a simple online form at the bottom of our snow and ice removal services page, and an Aeroscape account manager will get in touch with you.

Aeroscape Defined as Essential Business During the COVID-19 Crisis

MIDVALE, Utah -- As everywhere else in this country, Aeroscape and its customers are impacted by the devastating COVID-19 outbreak. Voluntary stay-at-home decrees and temporary lockdowns for non-essential businesses and workers will most likely be part of the business landscape for several months to come. But, according to the National Association of Landscape Professionals, landscape services are deemed as essential businesses during this time of crisis.

Why Are Landscaping Services Essential During a Crisis?

Landscaping services protect the public health by treating lawns and green spaces in order to reduce the number of mosquitos, ticks and fleas that will thrive if they are not managed. This reduces the transmission of dangerous diseases that would provide a need for additional treatment to the already stressed medical systems in the state of Utah. Furthermore, services such as tree removal, if delayed may lead to additional property damage, injury or even death.

Studies have also shown that failure to maintain property and green spaces leads to higher crime rates and more incidences of accident and injury in those areas. This is especially important during the spring, because the failure to provide proper landscaping care at this time of the year may increase the amount and difficulty of maintaining that landscape later in the season.

Because landscape maintenance companies provide most of its services outside, there are far fewer chances of coming into close contact with other individuals during the average workday. Aeroscape has taken additional steps to protect our employees and clients by asking them to maintain social distancing when interacting with customers and other team members in the field, washing hands frequently, and cleaning and disinfecting the equipment and vehicles often. Aeroscape also provides daily updates and information to all staff, including posting notices on any safety procedures or recommendations from the local, state and federal government.

Aeroscape Releases Summertime Tree and Shrub Care Tip Sheet

MIDVALE, Utah -- Aeroscape Property Maintenance & Landscaping has released a tree and shrub care tip sheet for Utah. The Utah summertime weather can be brutal to trees and shrubs, especially the ones that have been planted (or transplanted) during the last couple of years.

Because the trees and shrubs within any landscaping design can be a significant investment, knowing how to care for them during the summer months is critical.

Pruning

Pruning in the summer should be done only to remove dead or broken branches. It is not a good idea to use pruning to "cut back" branches that seem to be getting unruly or too long. Cutting back these limbs June remove branches and leaves that keep the tree cool and out of the intense, Utah summer sun and might even kill some of the limbs of the tree or possibly the tree itself.

It is also a good idea to check the trees after summer storms to make sure that no branches have been broken or significantly weakened and might need pruning as a result.

Watering

Watch trees and shrubs carefully for signs of drought distress, some these signs might be wilting leaves or branches, yellowing leaves or leaves falling from the tree. Be very careful if planting a tree during the summer months, and be diligent by watering it consistently. Newly planted trees-even those planted during the recommended seasons of spring and fall-work hard to grow roots during the first couple of years and are more susceptible to drought or excess heat.

Avoid overwatering your trees and shrubs. This can be as damaging to them as prolonged drought conditions. How do you know how much water is enough? Spray the area around the tree or shrub until the soil is damp, but not soggy. Ideally the soil around your plant should dry after a short period of time with no standing water or mud remaining around it.

Dry soil conditions can significantly reduce the life span of valuable landscape trees. Because they are difficult and expensive to replace, the trees need attention during and after periods of drought.

Mulching

Another way to help control the moisture around trees and shrubs is to use mulch. Not only does mulch retain moisture, but it also protects the tree roots from the drastic changes in temperature which are common to Utah. Mulch has the added benefit of preventing weed growth and the compacting of soil around the base of the tree or shrub. Use only natural mulch spreading it around the base of the tree-but not touching the trunk-about 3 inches deep.

Managing Pests

Well-watered trees and shrubs are the best defense against pests. Landscaping becomes more susceptible to insects and disease if they are in distress, so the best way to manage pests is not to attract them in the first place. Keep a close eye on them to identify problems early on so pests can be stopped before they get too entrenched.

Aeroscape Releases Flowering Shrub Selection Guide for Landscape Design in Utah

MIDVALE, Utah -- Aeroscape Property Maintenance & Landscaping has released the following reference guide for selecting flowering shrubs for Utah landscape design. Because Utah is a challenging environment for flowering shrubs-the arid climate, the hot, full-summer sun, winters with heavy snowfall, and a wide variety of soil qualities and composition all can be factors impacting the health of these plants.

Blue Mist Caryopteris
Also known as Blue Mist Shrubs, this plant produces clusters of fragrant flowers ranging in colors of blue and purple in late summer. These are drought-tolerant and thrive in full sun. They are also very disease and insect resistant.

Carol Mackie Daphne
The Carol Mackie Daphne is one of the most popular varieties of flowering shrub in Utah. These shrubs do well in full sun or partial shade and once they are established they tolerate dry conditions very well.

Double Flowered Japanese Rose
Also commonly known as the "Yellow Rose of Texas," these shrubs grow very fast and can get as large as 8 to 10 feet tall and wide. They are tough plants that handle the hot and dry Utah climate well and can thrive in partial to full sun.

Fernbush
This is another hardy plant that thrives in arid conditions and soil types, lives at high altitudes and requires little maintenance. Fernbush flowers attract many beneficial insects such as honeybees and butterflies, as well as small seed-eating birds.

Mediterranean Pink Heather
The Mediterranean Pink Heather is good for borders (especially for raised flower beds), ground cover or container gardening. Once it has been established it requires little care other than pruning it back every so often to make it full and less wild.

Ninebark
Ninebark is a rapid-growing plant that is named from the bark that peels away in strips revealing different colors and shades. It is frequently used as hedges, privacy screens, and for erosion control. It prefers full sun and, once established, is very tolerant to drought making it an excellent part of your landscape design in Utah. It is also disliked by deer which is an added bonus.

Serviceberry
Also known as Shadbush, Juneberry, Saskatoon and Sugarplum just to name a few. It is easy to care for, tolerant of cold weather, thrives in common soil and water, and can handle life in the full sun.

Slender Deutzia (Deutzia Gracilis)
The Slender Deutzia is part of hydrangea family and originally native to Japan. It typically grows between 2 to 4 feet high and about the same width. The Slender Deutzia is a great choice for Utah landscaping because it grows easily with average moisture and prefers the full sun.

Snowball Bush (Viburnum opulus)
This shrub is great for Utah climates because once it has been established, it is drought tolerant and it loves full sun. In fact, the more exposure to direct sunlight this shrub gets, the more flowers it produces.
