The Lowell Chamber Orchestra announces its fourth season

LOWELL, Mass. -- The Lowell Chamber Orchestra announces its fourth season, with five free concerts that look to entertain, educate, and enlighten Lowell audiences. "The season is designed to turn the western classical musical canon on its head," says Music Director Orlando Cela. "The programming elevates contemporary works above established masterpieces, demonstrating that music keeps evolving in the orchestral medium."

The season will feature works by very well-known composers such as Manuel de Falla, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Franz Joseph Haydn, but these will have very unusual features, such as flamenco style chanting, a vanishing orchestra, and unusual instruments. The newer works will have influences by grindcore punk, Latin-American rhythms, Cornish traditions, and more.

Most of the works have an important social message, such as Gabriele Vanoni's multimedia oratorio "Island of Peoples," about the immigrant experience, and Estefanía Pardo Perez's "Paikuna Saqinku," about displacement of ethnic communities due to environmental disasters - the latter piece being the winner of LCO's second call-for-scores.

"Even the last movement of Haydn's 45th symphony is a social commentary," continues Cela. "The ending is not so much about requesting to go back to Eisenstadt, as it is about demonstrating the importance of teamwork and working together (as told by Giaccomo Ferrari); and in a world where war and political tensions plague our everyday life, we program this piece as a call for global unity and peace."

The season features many guest artists: for the first time ever, the Lowell Chamber Orchestra will feature Canadian conductor Geneviève Leclair as the LCO's first ever guest conductor, and Roi Karni, the winner of LCO's first ever concerto competition. Vocalists Sophie Michaux and Rose Hegele, and cellist Leo Eguchi will also be featured, among others.

All of the concerts are completely free, consistent with the LCO's mission to provide extraordinarily high level classical music performances and take down socio-economic barriers to access these concerts. The LCO survives only through donations.

Change Course is a tuition-free career and community development program designed to educate and empower those living in poverty

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The objective of Change Course is to provide program participants (referred to as "leaders") with stronger life and career skills. Through personal development courses and career-focused training, this six-month program aims to provide "leaders" connections to a network of business partners and higher-paying job opportunities.

Joseph Johnson, a recently retired business leader in the Des Moines community for over 25 years, along with his wife Karin, have opened the doors to Change Course. Joseph was incarcerated at a younger age, but was able to rebuild his life and establish a meaningful career, which he attributes to his faith, family and support from a community of caring people. This experience is what fuels Joe's passion to help people achieve personal and economic success in the face of adversity.

"Earlier in life, I was incarcerated for poor choices I made and while incarcerated, I got to know many men who struggled to enter the workforce-not from lack of desire, but the lack of opportunity, quality education, and support from healthy community," Joseph said. "I feel compelled by my relationship with Christ to step up and pay forward what was done for me to help develop a loving community around the people we plan to serve."

A video of Joe talking about his vision can be found at https://change-course.org.

ABOUT CHANGE COURSE:

Change Course is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2022 to assist families living in poverty to remove the barriers such as inadequate education, poor support network, inability to navigate existing programs, etc. that are keeping them from emerging out of poverty and becoming self-sufficient. Change Course provides training, support, and connections to a network of other partners (such as educational and employment opportunities) to support program participants in their journey out of poverty.

Change Course has established relationships to facilitate career focused training with Iowa Works, the Evelyn K. New Memoir on Picasso Makes a Number of Extraordinary Claims

CHATEAUGUAY, Quebec -- It would appear that Picasso and his famous model, Marie-Thérèse Walter, both went to their graves during the seventies with a rather ominous secret on their conscience, according to Marc Poissant, author of the new memoir, "Picasso and Marie-Thérèse Walter: The Censored Story" (ISBN: 978-0228879718). Also new for the art world is the fact that Picasso, unbeknownst to the art historians (his exegetes) secretly coded literally dozens of artworks (many of them now world-known masterpieces) around this highly private matter. A second subtitle inscribed inside the book aptly reads: "what he painted is not what he said."

Author's Synopsis:

In October 1977, Marie-Thérèse Walter was found hanged in her home's garage at age sixty-eight. She was famously known as the "sleeping blond muse," whose relationship with Pablo Picasso ('Pic,' as she preferred to call him) had always been extremely secretive.

In 1988, Dr. Herbert T. Schwarz published a study where he argued - many scholars later agreed - that he had sufficient evidence proving that the blond muse was already at Picasso's side at age fifteen in early 1925, which is two full years before the date given by Picasso who always claimed having met Marie-Thérèse on the streets of Paris in January 1927 when she was seventeen and a half. But then, this is also the man who once said "you must not always believe what I say; questions tempt you to tell lies, especially when there is no answer."

Dr. Schwarz' intrusion into the "Marie-Thérèse mystery," if on the right track, was still miles away from the truth; the evidence now shows that Picasso had in fact erased all of Marie-Thérèse's early-life narrative, starting with her family origins; because for anyone to know the identity of her true parents was also inevitably to know that Picasso had to know this young girl right from the crib.

This book tries to resuscitate some of Marie-Thérèse's cancelled narrative, as it also tries to unveil the roots and the mechanism of an old disinformation campaign, complete with cover-up; formerly under Picasso's strict control - later, under that of his heirs after he passed away in 1973 -, the scholars and the museums too have known about this hoax for well over a decade now.

Regrettably, however, ever since I published my study in 2009 a shabby posture has consistently prevailed within the Picasso Intelligentsia: video et taceo, see and keep silent. But isn't that Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" all over again: "...and how many times can a man turn his head/Pretending he just doesn't see..."

PICASSO'S LIFE AND WORK AS NO ONE HAS YET SEEN IT; WELCOME TO A FLURRY OF NEW REVELATIONS.

With regard to the author, he can perhaps be best discovered by reading his Chapter 4. His book, "Picasso and Marie-Thérèse Walter: The Censored Story" (Tellwell Publishing, RRP $30) is available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Indigo and more. Although one-on-one interviews are not envisioned at this time, the author will gracefully try to answer all pertinent questions for anyone having done his or her preliminary homework, which is to read the book in all of its details, the evidence behind the new claims forming a kind of complex patchwork which is spread all across most of the book's twenty-three chapters (marcpoissant@videotron.ca).

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Mortgage Capital Trading (MCT®), a leading mortgage hedge advisory and secondary marketing software firm, announced today that National Mortgage Professional's Mortgage Women Magazine selected Natalie Arshakian, Senior Director and Head of Lock Desk Operations at MCT, to its annual 2022 Mortgage Star Awards.

This year's award recognizes 31 women who rise above the rest to do more for their clients, serve as better mentors, and are committed to making the industry more welcoming through both traditional and creative ways. Mortgage Women Magazine selected this year's Mortgage Stars by analyzing each individual's accomplishments, their philosophies, the way they support those around them, and how they inspire others to better themselves.

The class of women listed as 2022's Mortgage Stars shared their personal stories of their successes, experiences, advice, and solutions via the July 2022 Issue of Mortgage Women. Many of them started in entry-level positions and rose to prominent leadership roles, including Natalie Arshakian.

In a conversation with Mortgage Women Magazine, Arshakian shared that she hopes to lead by example, "so that women know that there is a spot for them at the table." Arshakian believes female mentors are critical to success, as they are "living proof that being a successful woman is achievable and that those who are driven should aim high."

Arshakian believes that initiative and self-motivation are the two most significant contributors to her success and encouraged women starting their careers in the mortgage industry to "find someone successful that you admire and ask how they got their start and what they did to become successful." Arshakian further emphasized that the significant change she'd like to see in the mortgage industry is more collaboration among secondary mortgage market leaders, investors, and technology platforms to enhance the user experience and offer more efficient processes industrywide.

Arshakian has over ten years of experience working in financial services and holds a B.A. in Political Science from UCLA. Arshakian's expertise lies in the areas of locking, pricing, data analysis, team leadership, mentoring, pipeline building, internal process creation, risk management, and auditing. David Vass’ One Man Show ‘What Could Go Wrong?’ Plays Six Performances at IndyFringe in August

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- 71-year-old gay elder David Vass, who participated in the birthing of the gay liberation movement from seedlings, performs his long-awaited one-man show, "What Could Go Wrong?" - a series of monologues based on over 70 diaries kept since Vass was seven years old, at IndyFringe.

A minimalist set reflects the intimate ambiance for his brutally honest, dramatic, funny, disturbing and at times cringe-worthy series of monologues culled from the diaries that he has kept for over 60 years, creating the bones of this extraordinary 'evening with', slightly condensed performance.

His one-man show, just prior to the onset of the pandemic, traveled to New York City, London, San Francisco and Australia. As the realities of the travel restrictions because of COVID were realized, David used that two-year period to rewrite the live version material and create the movie script. He also redesigned the play website, created his YouTube Television Channel, and legalized the production company ('I'm Afraid Knot LLC') into a non-profit 501(c) organization.

Fervently believing, given the content and candid honesty of this adults-only production, that "audience members should feel free to walk out, no offense taken by me," he also reminds the audiences of seeing the performances remembering his strong belief that our collective freedom of speech is under attack during these 'woke' times. This first half of his life can be brutal and repugnant, as life can be. There are performances where the coarse language used can come under attack, which he brushes off with "this is how white trash talked in those days."

For a flavor of the content and intensity of the production, he suggests having a free look at the four-minute sizzle/teaser reel found on the play's website: https://www.whatcouldgowrong-theplay.com/.

David says, "My young brothers and sisters, Cis or Gay or however you identify from the current 14-pronoun, one adjective non-binary tribe of which I am a member, you've been handed rights, gay and straight and a large degree of equality and variety on a silver platter this past decade, and off the backs of us elders who remember how we got from the early 50's to now. With RvW overturned (making way for gay marriage and other human rights to be overturned as well), get ready to put your/our bodies on the streets again, blocking the streets again, making noise on the streets again and taking over the streets again."

He recalls at seven years of age (1957 and the year he outed himself) being asked if he was a 'butch or a fem', a few years later a 'top or a bottom', skip forward to 'are you bi'. These questions all asked in the 50's and with no resources for Vass to reference - he didn't know any of those words. He learned at 14 what fellatio meant when a uniformed policeman pulled him into an alley and demanded just that. His first sexual encounter was not warm and fuzzy but makes for a sad but fascinating monologue segment about that time in gay history when the police and the Mafia pulled the strings on what the gay tribe could or could not do, and the prices paid for that suppression.

Vass reflects, "This history, this collection of real stories needs to be told, to be kept alive in the first-person for generations of our tribe who follow. Please be clear, this is not a gay play, it is a series of experiences told in monologues with the details refreshed by my beloved diaries - a series of encounters and life-changing events I have lived. Yes, I happen to be gay, and I use this theatrical forum to tell the absolute truth as I know it, and it is from a gay perspective. How could it not be? This was all seen through my eyes. I believe the monologues are relatable to everyone, and this condensed 'evening with' also features stories about my time working with strippers, Broadway stars, movie legends, Grammy winning singers, assorted celebrities and so much more. We are all humans first, and then members of whatever 'tribe' we resonate to."

The performances are the last three weekends of August and the Labor Day weekend, in Indianapolis, with the specific dates and times available, and also ticket sales on the IndyFringe website https://indyfringe.org/.

Vass asks the Indianapolis / Indiana community to support local artists and see his show by purchasing tickets now and reading additional information about IndyFringe on their website.

Snippets of what some others (reviewers, bloggists, interviewers, audience members) have to say about 'What Could Go Wrong?'...

Hugh M. Langford, Cultural and Theatre Critic-At-Large, London Review: "One story was considered by some attendees to be so offensive they walked out (4 to be exact). He is not pornographic or rude, but he is unabashedly rough, blue, and unafraid to present adult material without the ribbon and bow. At last, a show for grown-ups - imagine! A hero's medal to David Vass, diarist and storyteller, for wringing humanity out of part one of his life and sharing it with us without a hint of embarrassment or shame. His is a skilled and fully realized performance. If you can find this show, see it. You may not like it but see it." (2021)

Joshua Ringwald, Lifestyle Blog Cultural Writer, NYC Review: "I was mesmerized throughout - at times shocked, embarrassed, angry, doubtful - is this for real, is this a play in disguise, am I watching a brilliant actor or one of the most honest and adept liars I've ever listened to? And laughter, so much laughter, and a dose of weeping too. Currently he self-produces, which he can ill afford. Calling all agents, bookers and producers; this is a gold mine in waiting. This needs to be seen by a lot of people. This is worthy of a long Off-Broadway run! See it. A brilliant evening - honest!"

Rita Kohn, Arts Writer, Nuvo, Indianapolis Review: "We cry, laugh, sigh, smile, cheer, groan - we come away uplifted by your honesty, lifeforce. Story is at the center and we love a good story. David Vass imbues the 'epitome of urbane,' which he brushes off with an airwave. One of my favorite monologues is him literally pooping himself at Lincoln Center having Montezuma's revenge during a concert doing sound and lights for a two-time Grammy winner. It's all in this show. Really it is not a play so much as an 'evening with', in the tradition of Quintin Crisp, David Sedaris and Augusten Burroughs - all cringe memoirists."

Audience Member After Performance in San Francisco: "Oh my God, I hope he has a good lawyer because I can't believe what came out of his mouth about those celebrities he worked with!"

Human Rights Initiative Empowers Youth to Become Advocates for Tolerance and Peace

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- On International Youth Day 2022, the Scientology Network features Youth for Human Rights International in episodes of "Voices for Humanity." Youth for Human Rights has inspired an entire generation of human rights activists to create change in their communities and countries.

"In 2001, when we began Youth for Human Rights International, 90 percent of those surveyed were unable to name more than three of the 30 rights granted by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," says the organization's founder and president Dr. Mary Shuttleworth. "Almost half the world's population is under 25. And they are hardest hit by the world's inequalities and injustices."

Youth for Human Rights stresses raising awareness and understanding of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Changing the state of human rights in the world depends on an understanding of the rights enshrined in the document. And the group's audiovisual properties make the history of human rights and each of the 30 rights simple to understand.

According to the United Nations, "67 percent of people believe in a better future, with 15- to 17-year-olds being the most optimistic about this."

Youth for Human Rights educational materials empower youth to accomplish the future they envision. Inspired by L. Ron Hubbard's belief that "human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream," the Church of Scientology and Scientologists support Youth for Human Rights and make these materials available to educators, law enforcement, nonprofits and community leaders free of charge.

"Voices for Humanity," an original series on the Scientology Network, documents how human rights advocates are creating positive change using the Youth for Human Rights initiative.

* Two decades after the end of a civil war that claimed 200,000 lives, the people of Guatemala still struggle with the human rights abuses committed by their military. Coming of age in the aftermath of such destruction, Cynthia Guerra committed herself to right those wrongs. Today, as president of Youth for Human Rights Guatemala, she leads a nationwide program to educate civilians, police and the military on human rights.

* For over two decades, the people of The Gambia suffered under a brutal dictatorship. Nfamara Jawneh spread the message of human rights, a campaign now credited with helping usher in a new era of democracy in the country. Partnering with Youth for Human Rights, Jawneh continues to work tirelessly across The Gambia and internationally, training and educating tens of thousands of students on their human rights.

* Sheena Chohan is a well-known Bollywood actress and TV personality. In press interviews, as a television host of the Bangladesh Premier Cricket League, and every chance she gets, she reaches millions with her message of the importance of knowing human rights to make South Asia a safer place for everyone.

Fundamental to Scientology is a humanitarian mission that extends to some 200 nations with programs for human rights, human decency, literacy, morality, drug prevention and disaster relief. "Voices for Humanity" is a series of short documentaries introducing changemakers of all faiths, cultures and nations who extend help to their communities through Scientology-sponsored humanitarian programs.

The Scientology Network is available on DIRECTV Channel 320 and can be streamed at Scientology.tv, on mobile apps and via the Roku, Amazon Fire and Apple TV platforms. Since launching with a special episode featuring Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige, Scientology Network has been viewed in 240 countries and territories worldwide in 17 languages.
