Ted Rigoni’s Oxidized! Exhibition opens at the Progress Gallery March 7 – 29, 2020

POMONA, Calif. -- The Progress Gallery, located at 300 S. Thomas St., Pomona, CA presents "Oxidized!" - a solo exhibit of art photographs of pigment on paper by artist Ted Rigoni. The Progress Gallery is open to the public from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday - Saturday and is celebrating this work with an Artist's Reception during the Artist Walk, on March 14, 2020 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The oxidized metals of the Mojave Desert Landscape - rusted cans, discarded bolts, 'gold mine' conveyor parts, spiraling culverts, and other metallic objects - seem annihilated by the gritty red rust of time. Yet these remnants have been born again as contemporary art photographs by Rigoni through selected light, edgy textures, and micro-details, to reveal the beautiful metals that supported desert pioneers as they pursued life, love, and riches in a hostile and unforgiving environment.

Abandonment is a common theme of America's West as places that once were, have become nonplaces, but at the same time places replete with nostalgic affections. Thus, Ted Rigoni titled his exhibit, Oxidized! to emphasize the rusty relationship we have with abandoned metals from our past - a distinct contrast with our shiny object culture of today. For a year plus, Ted explored the desert within the Mojave National Preserve, discovering metal artifacts that date back generations, each of them an Oxidized! (rusted) icon to the rugged miners, ranchers, railroaders, and itinerant explorers whose ghosts still linger in this land of creosote bushes, coyotes and sand.

A series of rusted bean cans cast a bronze, nostalgic glow, but no details to pinpoint a specific place or time. Grand scale photographs of small rusted bolts seem to vibrate with life on the Giclee prints and display as equals to images of gigantic metal culverts and sinusoidal railroad tracks. Ted's art connects the small with the large, the very old to the just old- all of it through the magic of an uncommon desert light.

"During my desert wilderness explorations, I often shoot images that reach out to me before I have reached out to them," Rigoni says. "When I return to my digital darkroom, I focus on creating images that explore the role art photography plays in our psychic understanding of the specific places that spawned these abandoned metals."

Ted describes his work as semi-abstract, with a deep topographical connection to the details which express an emotional response to the "Oxidized!" elements.

Ted points out, "I often stack focus 50 images of the same piece to capture the minute detail with exquisite sharpness because my visual vocabulary includes the finite rust and all its pigment varieties. I want to extend the visual experience beyond documenting the abstract light, patterns, and textures, which naturally appear. I am interested in how the unconscious act of abandoning these metals is born again in our consciousness as art."

Ted Rigoni resides with his family in Tustin, California, is a professional sports photographer, retired County Road Division Manager, and has been engaged in fine art photography for the last four years. In addition to creating art photography projects, Ted is an associate art photography instructor for National Park Photography Expeditions.

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. -- Glynns Thomas of Glynns Thomas Portraits LLC in El Dorado Hills, California has earned the Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) designation from Professional Photographers of America (PPA).

Thomas earned this designation after completing an intensive program that measures her artistic and technical competence. Professional Photographers of America currently recognizes fewer than 2,500 CPPs across the nation.

Thomas pointed out, "Helping my business customers portray the best of themselves and what they do is my passion. The work I went through to achieve this certification helps me to do that even better."

Professional Photographers of America (PPA.com/CPP) is the leading body for certifying imaging professionals. Emily Silver’s ‘On the Mojave Road’ opens at the Desert Light Gallery – Sept. 6 to Dec. 31, 2019

KELSO, Calif. -- The Desert Light Gallery, located at the Mojave National Preserve's Kelso Depot Visitors Center presents "On the Mojave Road," a solo exhibit of paintings in watercolor on paper by nationally celebrated painter and National Park Service Artist in Residence, Emily Silver. The Visitors Center is at 90942 Kelso Cima Rd, Kelso, CA 92309 and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday - Monday.

Inspiration for Emily's Residency and her captivating exhibit of 22 paintings came from Emily's long walks on portions of the Mojave Road, which has been described by Desert Journalist Len Wilcox as a place where the "uncommonly beautiful" meets a "peculiar form of hell." Silver hiked 92 miles (out and back) of the Mojave Road's rutted dirt tracks in 3 - 4 mile stretches.

"Walking," she says, "provides an opportunity to slow down and experience first hand the qualities that imbue this route with its powerful presence."

Raised in a family of geologists and artists whose ancestors took part in the settling and mapping of the American West, Emily developed a deep affinity for its geography, cultural history, and the history of migrations, which drives her walking and painting practices. "During my walk, I create plein-air sketches and makes notes, which I use when I return to the studio. I focus on creating paintings that investigate the role painting plays in our psychic understanding of specific places, as well as the inverse: the idea that our relationship with land influences the process of painting."

She describes her work as abstract, with a deep topographical connection based upon maps, and her paintings express an emotional response that captures the mystical and spiritual values of Mojave National Preserve. Emily points out, "My visual vocabulary includes flows and aggregates of watercolor, pigment, salts, and sediments, geometric patterns suggesting temple floors and cracked mud, and relics of native textural materials. These are often superimposed over cartographic skeletons derived from satellite photos and digital maps. I'm interested in documenting abstract sensations such as light, ghosts, patterns and textures, silence, aridity, and gravity, as well as the emotions, associated with specific locales."

"On the Mojave Road" is engaging and deeply revealing collection of paintings that examine the mystery and contradictions involved in making art about the Mojave Desert. Each work builds upon another, and as you tour the exhibit, you may find yourself with new ways of exploring Mojave National Preserve places.

Emily Silver resides in Ferndale, Calif. After acquiring a degree from Stanford in Visual Design, she began painting seriously in the 1980s, eventually earning an MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007. Her work has enjoyed wide critical acclaim with numerous solo and group exhibits. Individuals and institutions collect her work, and she has been featured in numerous art publications.

Emily recently retired from the faculty of College of the Redwoods, after a 40-year career teaching art to college students, Nevada schoolchildren, and inmates in prison art programs in Washington, Nevada, and California. You can see more of her work at: http://www.emilysilver.com/

Influencer Photographer Reveals Top 10 Spots for Instagram Photos in NYC

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Ever wondered who's behind the camera when scrolling through influencers' Instagram feeds? Victoria Brewood, owner of InfluencerPhotographer.com, makes a living taking photographs for influencers, bloggers and tourists who are in need of Insta-worthy photos in The Big Apple. Today she reveals her most popular locations for Instagram photos in New York City:

DUMBO & Brooklyn Bridge - The number one most requested location for influencer Instagram photos is Washington Street in DUMBO, combined with The Brooklyn Bridge.

"I always arrange to shoot DUMBO and The Brooklyn Bridge just after sunrise to avoid the masses of tourists lining up for photos. Washington St. is always popular with bridal shoots and fashion shoots, so don't be surprised if you have to stand and wait your turn," says Victoria Brewood, photographer at InfluencerPhotographer.com.

Top of The Rock - It may cost money to enter, but the Top of The Rock also offers one of the best views of the city. To snap the best photo, head straight to the outdoor observation deck and stand on the side facing south towards the Empire State building. Have a friend or photographer stand on uppermost deck to catch the perfect snap from above.

Bethesda Fountain - Covering 843 acres, Central Park is full of fantastic photo opportunities but the Bethesda Terrace Arcade is definitely not to be missed. Linking the mall to Bethesda fountain, the arcade boasts a stunning tiled ceiling and has great light for photography.

Grand Central Terminal - For that iconic New York City shot, influencers can't go wrong with a photo at Grand Central Terminal, one of the most beautiful train stations in the world. The best spot for photos is the staircase overlooking the Main Concourse.

28th street mural - There are tons of great murals all over Manhattan, Williamsburg and Bushwick. But ever since 28th street station re-opened, Instagrammers have been flocking to have their photo taken in front of the new floral mosaic "Roaming Underfoot" by Brooklyn-based artist Nancy Blum.

The Oculus - For influencers who like clean lines and light space in their photos, The Oculus at World Trade Center provides a striking, almost futuristic backdrop.

West Village - The leafy streets of the West Village are ideal for a neighbourhood feel, particularly the areas around Commerce Street and Cherry Lane Theater. "The restaurant 'While We Were Young' is also incredibly photogenic with its purple-colored cocktails, light interior and inspirational quotes," says Brewood.

SoHo - For fashion bloggers in need of "street-style" photographs, the cobbled streets of SoHo usually make for the best backdrops. Greene Street and NoMo SoHo's twinkling archway are the perfect place to strike a pose.

Flatiron - With its peculiar narrow wedge shape, the Flatiron building has always been an eye-catching structure for photographers. Photos are best from a lower angle in order to capture more of the building in your shot.

Vessel - Opened to the public in 2019, Vessel at Hudson Yards is quickly becoming one of NYC's most Instagrammed buildings. The company's controversial photo policy hit the headlines but that hasn't stopped visitors from snapping photos on the building's spiral staircase.

"New York City has so many great Instagram locations, from iconic landmarks to colourful murals and cute brownstones. Lots of people visit specific locations because they've seen them on Instagram and I enjoy being able to help influencers and Instagrammers get their perfect shot."

About InfluencerPhotographer.com

Travel blogger Victoria Brewood set up InfluencerPhotographer.com in 2018 to offer Instagram services for influencers and bloggers in New York City. By inquiring through her website, influencers can set up one-off shoots or regular shoots in locations around Manhattan and Brooklyn. The 32-year old British blogger, who runs the solo travel blog PommieTravels.com, first realized there was a market for influencer photography when other bloggers would ask her for help taking photos. She originally started offering photography services in London before relocating to New York.

Remo Software announces major software update for its Video Repair Software

BANGALORE, India -- Remo Software has recently announced the latest upgrade of its popular software product Remo Repair MOV (version 2.0.0.47). Highly renowned for its video file repairing capability, this MOV video repair tool has gained quite a number of applauds to its belt.

Remo Software states that it has faced quite a few challenges while trying to upgrade to the current version, as the software being the best in class, it has very less room for tweaking any of its impeccable functionality. However, with a lot of requests flowing from its customers, the software now has an extended support for all the latest models of GoPro and DJI phantom drone cameras. As most of the cameras record videos in either MOV or MP4 format, the general false assumption is that any upgrade would just mean adding more logos onto the product support description.

Extending support for various video cameras involves getting a deeper insight into finer details of Video container formats that vary from one camera model to another. For example, the video file structure of videos recorded on Canon 80D, Canon 5D Mark IV and Canon 70D have minute differences that have to be considered while repairing the video file.

With the recent upgrade Remo Repair MOV's algorithm completely understands the finer details of video formats recorded on a wide range of cameras including the latest GoPro Hero4, DJI Phantom 3, Panasonic GH4 and GH5 etc. After a complete understanding of the video structure the software then conducts MOV or MP4 repair in just 3 clicks.

Mixed Media Art Exhibit Captivates Mojave National Preserve Visitors – ‘Earth Through Time’

KELSO, Calif. -- Mojave National Preserve is presenting "Earth Through Time: Providence Mountains and the Mojave National Preserve," a solo, mixed media exhibition of paintings, etchings and installation art at the Desert Light Gallery, Kelso Visitors Center, by nationally celebrated National Park Service Artist in Residence, Britney Penouilh.

The Visitors Center is at 90942 Kelso Cima Rd, Kelso, CA 92309 and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday-Monday, March 29 - June 30, 2019.

Penouilh's work is a captivating series of visual monologues embracing the dynamism of a changing landscape as viewed through "geologic time." Based in Los Angeles, a trained geologist, an accomplished artist and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of New Orleans University, Britney's exhibit references 650 million years of transmutation in the Mojave's Providence Mountains. Her paintings feature environmental tropes that associate land changes with surface techniques that are additive and reductive.

"Her creative process is engaging and mimics the earth processes of deposition and erosion," notes Bob Killen, Mojave National Preserve Artist Foundation President. "As you traverse the gallery, each piece provides a compelling visual narrative that illustrates the history of the land and man's early and current intersection with Mojave geology."

Britney Penouilh invested a year exploring the backcountry of the Mojave National Preserves' Providence Mountains. "I developed the exhibit through exploration," she explains, "research with park service staff, and while hiking with my camera during golden hour, I journaled each day and concepts evolved into sketches. Over the term of my residency, I worked on translating how the Eastern California Shear Zone shaped the Mojave, and the Mojave shaped man (and woman)."

The diversity of the exhibit artwork exceeds the term, "Mixed Media." For example, the process of her paintings include selected pages from Michel Digonnet's book "Hiking the Mojave Desert" - she oiled, burned and collaged the pages on to wooden panels - paint and plaster are layered, applied and removed mimicking erosion of the land. Areas of her exhibit that would be appreciated only as complimentary texture are something more- it is the thing itself. Other visual monologues include strips of fabric that hang from wall-mounted hands and the ceiling, gracefully casting shadows as it draws from a space of sinister stalagmites and stalactites within the Mitchell Caverns.

Britney also created plaster hands, which gesture uplift of the land, while grated sheet metal in a hidden wall mount bisects impressionistic mountains, indicative of the intrusive bodies of hot granitic magma that once formed ore deposits of iron, gold, silver, and lead. It is these ore deposits that are responsible for producing the most profitable mines in Eastern California. Other sculptural works include a wall installation of naturally occurring minerals cast in polymer gypsum and a set of hands holding silicone cast bird feathers in a piece that signifies the Mojave people as a people of Dreams.

"Mixed Media is a challenging art discipline," says Gabe Thorburn, who Directs the Artists in Residence Selection program. "Britney's art achieves a cohesive resonance between each piece to create a whole experience," he says. "Visitors to the Desert Light Gallery and the Mojave will find themselves deeply engaged in this show because Britney's introspection and talented hands have created a deep appreciation for the Earth Through Time for all of us."
