NEW YORK, NY – May 27 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — To celebrate his 30th year in the American Theatre, Bruce L. Roistacher, a veteran Long Island criminal defense attorney, will star in a production of Neil Simon’s “Biloxi Blues,” directed by Ed Murray, and produced by Long Islands well-respected repertory company, The Gray Wig.

Roistacher, who began his career as a New York City prosecutor, believes that the transition from the courtroom to the stage isn’t really all that much of a leap.
“Many techniques that a lawyer calls upon to make his case during a trial are just as effective on a stage,” said Roistacher. “Body language, eye contact with jurors, clear delivery, a persuasive and engaging presentation of the facts- -these are all tools of the trade that both actors and lawyers rely upon.

The biggest mistake that trial lawyers make is that they don’t realize they also have to be actors. They pontificate like lawyers instead of just telling the story in an engaging way to the jury. Jurors really aren’t much different than audiences in a theater; they want to be entertained by a compelling and interesting case.”

Biloxi Blues will open on Friday June 3, and runs through Sunday, June 19 at the West End Theatre at Hofstra University. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $18.00.

Bruce L. Roistacher is a former New York City prosecutor assigned to the Major Offense Bureau, and opened his own practice in 1990, and has successfully defended thousands of New Yorkers accused of criminal offenses. Mr. Roistacher attributes his success in the courtroom to his background in theater, and his fine-tuned acting skills. Roistacher attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, has performed in dozens of plays and musicals throughout his career, and is currently studying with the Barrow Group in Manhattan.

Mr. Roistacher is planning the launch of a seminar series to teach trial lawyers basic acting skills that they can use to create a more persuasive and effective presentation in the courtroom.
