REDONDO BEACH, Calif. - August 31 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Musician, author, artist and photographer Christopher Laird Simmons (www.SimChris.com) joined hundreds of other musicians, bands, and independent record labels today in "banding together" with CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com) to donate their entire wholesale price on music sales to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund.

The special website, set-up by CD Baby at www.CDbaby.com/redcross/ showcases hundreds of independent musicians who will be helping with the hurricane relief effort by donating their profits to the Red Cross.

"You may think that a few sales won't help, but with thousands of musicians banded together to do this, I think it will help a LOT of people get their lives back together after this disaster," said CD Baby's founder Derek Sivers.

Christopher Simmons is an award-winning multimedia producer, keyboard player and electronic musician, a member of ASCAP, who has composed soundtracks for several independent cable TV series. His "world beat" instrumental CD "Beserker" on Neotrope Records, was originally released in the 1980's and Simmons' musical style could be called a cross between Jan Hammer, Howard Jones, Tangerine Dream, and a little bit of Brian Eno.

Simmons is a former member of the bands "Bluetoy(TM)," "Project 11," and "Pets Gone Wild" (www.petsgonewild.com). He is currently the host of the entertainment podcast on PRNewsRadio(TM) (www.prnewsradio.com) and the founder of Neotrope(R) and Send2Press Newswire.

"Beserker" is a digitally remastered edition of a vintage electronica, world beat, "space music" recording originally released in 1986. Bonus track, "Densitelemetry," was used as the theme music for the cable-tv series "Viewpoints on Video," in 1987.

Ben Kettlewell, of the Imaginary Voyages radio show, wrote of the CD: "...composition and instrumentation are excellent ...definitely some of the best electronic music I have listened to in quite a while."

SWANZEY, NH - August 3 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- 95North Recording Corporation tears up a new road in music history. Their latest CD, "Fins, Chrome, and the Open Road - A Tribute to the Cadillac" races into history with a unique license. For the first time in the automobile giant's 100+ years, General Motors Corporation has endorsed a music project in tribute to their famous Cadillac. Their decision to embrace this project was based on the incredible pool of talent, as well as the high standards of music production held at 95North Records.

Photo Caption: CD cover of Fins, Chrome, and the Open Road - A Tribute to the Cadillac.

Perhaps no other icon in American Pop Culture has been more glorified in song than the Cadillac. The 21 songs on the CD were recorded specifically for this project, and remind us of the glory years - the great American "Dream Machines," that represent a more innocent time in our history - and will drive the listener to a fun and lighthearted place. For over a century, the Cadillac image has defined what is hip and cool, and this is also where the project meets that image. Original tunes along with new versions of popular hits, performed by indie artists as well as by Blues and Roots Country legends, capture that timelessly cool image from start to finish.

"Fins, Chrome, and the Open Road - A Tribute to the Cadillac" includes 21 tunes from these incredible and legendary acts:

"Look At That Cadillac" - Mr. Nick's Blues Mafia
"Cadillac Mama" - David Maxwell
"Solid Gold Cadillac" - Maria Muldaur
"You're My Cadillac" - Nanette Workman
"Ride" - Tom Gillam
"Slick Black Cadillac Daddy" - The Sidewinders
"Brand New Cadillac" - Bob Walsh
"Mighty Fine Cruisin" - Charlie Musselwhite
"Caddy Daddy" - Robin Rogers
"Cadillac Tracks" - Jimmy Hall
"Don't Touch My Caddy" - Rory Block
"Bring Back That Cadillac" - The Melroys
"I Should Be Driving A Cadillac" - Bob Halperin
"Cadillac Ranch" - Rosie Flores
"One Piece At A Time" - Jim Lauderdale
"Cadillac Baby" - Chaz DePaolo featuring The Groundhogs
"Cadillac Forever" - Ottomatic Slim
"Cadillac Assembly Line" - George Kelly
"Cadillac Blues" - Monster Mike Welch
"I Ain't Got You" - Little Milton
"My Daddy's Cadillac" - Todd Thibaud

The CD's Radio Add Date is June 13th, and the Retail Street Date is July 12. 95North Recording Corporation President, Bill Hurley, stated, "It's not just about Cadillac owners or enthusiasts, although there are literally millions of them . . . it's about music fans laughing, and reminiscing about their own childhood memories. This music could make a bronze statue tap its feet. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed putting it together."

Check out this piece of music history, and you'll see why it's the only one to be endorsed by the automobile manufacturing legend, General Motors!

Solo Performer Show Controller 2.4 Increases Play List Flexibility for Musicians Who Improvise Their Set Lists While Performing

Author: Alien Apparatus Company, Inc.
Dateline: Mon, 27 Jun 2005

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Alien Apparatus Company, Inc. releases Solo Performer Show Controller version 2.4. Solo Performer Show Controller is a system for controlling the background music, lyrics displays, MIDI effects, and light shows for musicians. The system consists of a six-button foot controller that connects to a computer via USB, and software that runs on Windows and Macintosh.”

A R T I C L E:

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. The system consists of a six-button foot controller that connects to a computer via USB, and software that runs on Windows and Macintosh.

Solo Performer Show Controller plays mp3 files, aiff files, wave files, and MIDI files. It can control MIDI effects units, lights that operate using the industry-standard DMX512 protocol, and can display lyrics on-screen in a karaoke-like manner. The software also includes a utility for stripping out unwanted tracks in MIDI files so that only the rhythm tracks play.

In this new release, musicians no longer need to pre-plan their set lists. Entire folders of audio files may be opened all at once, and while a song is playing, the next song may be selected from the list. Play list items may navigated by either typing the first few characters of the song title, by moving the scroll bar with the mouse, or by engaging the new "auto-scroll" feature of the foot controller.

To further increase flexibility, users can now select from three play list behaviors, including a new "loop" mode. This enables musicians fill the play list with small audio samples that will loop continuously and seamlessly until another play list item is chosen. The system can be set up so that looped samples play continuously and then switch to seamlessly play the next selection.

The creation of light shows has been improved by including a new chase definition system. Light scenes can now be arranged into chase sequences that are recorded to the event list when the space bar is tapped. This means that while a song is being played, the space bar can be tapped to the beat to insert light scenes. In this way, complex light shows can be constructed very quickly.

The Solo Performer Show Controller System is currently the only system available for controlling a show that seamlessly integrates audio, MIDI, and DMX512 lighting capabilities. With its six-button foot controller, a guitar player could, for example, play a show in front of an audience and have all of the backing rhythm tracks play from the system while it controls the lights and changes the singer's vocal reverb during the choruses.

Solo Performer Show Controller is available for both Windows and Macintosh computer systems. For more information on the product, or to order online, visit www.alienapparatus.com.

The program opens with Edward Elgar's "POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE, OPUS 39" transcribed for organ by Edwin H. NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - April 29 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The Institute for the Musical Arts, a non-profit dedicated to supporting women in music, will be offering a rock 'n roll camp for adults from June 26th-July 2nd at its campus in Goshen, MA. The cost is $750, and includes food, housing and instruction. When IMA began offering its rock camps for teen-aged girls, many adults wished out loud that they could come, so the institute added a rock camp for adults last year.

The Rock Camp, open to professional and amatuer musicians with an interest in performing, offers the opportunity to develop, arrange and perform original and cover tunes in a full band setting. IMA owns all the equipment necessary for any rock band and campers have access to it all. Participants bring original songs or creative writing and/or songs by other artists that they would like to learn. Selected original and cover tunes are arranged, charted out and rehearsed to perform for family and friends on the last day of the session.

The camp is led by three seasoned musicians:

  • Singer-songwriter June Millington has been in bands since she was a teenager herself; her band FANNY was signed to Warner Brothers Records when she was 20 years old. Renowned as an electric guitarist, Guitar Player Magazine called her "the hottest female guitar player in the industry."

  • Evelyn Harris, who has been singing professionally for over 30 years, will work with vocalists and lead the vocal classes. A former member of the internationally acclaimed group Sweet Honey in the Rock, she has also received a Grammy nomination for her original work.

  • Loren Weisman will be leading the drum clinics. Weisman has toured extensively with various bands and has over 150 albums under his belt as well as production and numerous session credits.

These three teachers will be joined by other guest artists who will lead evening clinics.

IMA is also offering three Rock 'n Roll Camps for teen-aged girls. The first two sessions of the girls camps are full, but there are still a few spaces left in the advanced girls camp which is August 5-14th.

CHARLOTTE, NC /Send2Press Newswire/ -- Muzak (www.muzak.com) won the coveted Best Booth award, given by Visual Merchandising and Store Design at GlobalShop 2005 last week in Las Vegas, NV. With more than 25,000 attendees, the trade show is recognized as the largest international expo featuring the most innovative design, products and technologies in the world of retail.

"Great design is fundamental to our brand and approach to music, voice and sound. To stand out above all the other exhibitors is quite an achievement," said Bob Finigan, Muzak marketing director.

The concept for the booth was built on a question, "What does a red rose sound like?" The question and theme changed each day (from a rose, to an eight-ball to a martini), as the company used basic objects to communicate its concept of audio architecture.

For example, the sound of a red rose was expressed through love songs and the music of artists like Etta James, Nat King Cole, and Stevie Wonder. Voiced elements were interspersed to drive the theme even further ... Remember your first kiss? The sound system was designed to create a warm and enveloping atmosphere. The overall design was supplemented with kinetic visual art, plasma screens and a chocolate scent.

"Every business has a certain look, feel and personality that can be expressed through music, voice and sound. For many that can be an elusive concept, so we broke it down to the level of a simple object. From there, it was easy for attendees to extend the idea to their brand and understand what makes us different in the industry. To us it's not business music or satellite radio; it's audio architecture and there's a huge difference," said Finigan.

Muzak worked with Grant Design Collaborative in Atlanta to turn their ideas into the 30-by-40 foot structure. "This project was about expressing an idea. Once you get it, it all makes sense and you see that Muzak is way ahead of the game. What they're doing with audio architecture is having a profound influence on the way retailers are designing and building their brands," said Bill Grant, president.

The booth took three days to construct on site. Highlights of the design featured more than 3,000 pounds of ball chain, an interior "well" structure, 600 red roses, 700 eight balls, and 700 martini glasses. Hundreds of representatives from the top retail brands in the world visited the exhibit and gained a new appreciation for Muzak.

Muzak plans to use the exhibit again at several national tradeshows throughout the year.
