Pacific Pinball Museum (PPM) Receives Large Donation of More Than 100 Vintage Machines

Author: Pacific Pinball Museum

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “The Pacific Pinball Museum (PPM) proudly announces the addition of more than 100 rare items to their massive collection through a donation made by business entrepreneur and renowned philanthropist Richard Foos.”

A R T I C L E:

The Pacific Pinball Museum (PPM) proudly announces the addition of more than 100 rare items to their massive collection through a donation made by business entrepreneur and renowned philanthropist Richard Foos.

The donated items, which include pinball machines, jukeboxes, vintage soda machines and much more, are worth an estimated $85,000 in total value making it one of the largest donations PPM has received, according to Michael Schiess, museum founder and co-director. "Richard Foos's generous donation is extremely important for us as it fills a gap in our collection with some very rare William's wood rails like Country Club, 4 Roses and 3D," said Schiess.

PPM is excited about the donation because it allows them to further their goal of keeping the history and culture of pinball in the public's eye. "What our museum is trying to do is make these items available to the public and encourage other people to do the same," said Schiess. "Too many times items are getting bought and held by a single owner without the public getting a chance to appreciate the machines. This is an important donation in keeping the American heritage of pinball public."

More than half of the items donated to PPM are pinball machines. These machines include: Apollo, Be Bop, 4 Horsemen, Blue Skies, Daisy May, Harbor Lites, Lovely Lucy, Magic Clock and San Francisco. "We're going to restore some of the items and hopefully have them on display in time for our Pacific Pinball Exposition 6 in September," said Schiess.

Foos, a Los Angeles native, co-founded Rhino Records, a record label that sold greatest hits collections of previously released recordings, in 1973. The company was later sold to Time Warner. Foos, a limitless philanthropist has always made it a point to donate his time, wealth and possessions to better the community. At Rhino, Foos gave employees paid time off to perform community service, encouraged employees to mentor disadvantaged youth and at one point donated two percent of Rhino's pretax profits to combat AIDS, homelessness and other problems. From 1991 to 2001, the company gave an estimated $2 million to various community-based charities. In the years since, Foos has donated a substantial amount to charities that address poverty and education issues. Today, Foos sits on the board of Rock the Classroom, which offers music programs in Los Angeles inner-city elementary schools.

Artist Dumpster Dives Kim Kardashian, Reveals Her Trash at Upcoming L.A. Event

Author: Cory Allen Contemporary Art
Dateline: Los Angeles, California (LOS ANGELES, Calif.)  | Tue, 13 Mar 2012

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Cory Allen Contemporary Art (CACA) announces that 'Fear Google' artist XVALA will be revealing the recent dumpster dived trash of Kim Kardashian, featuring the celebrity's collapsed basketball at a roof top event in Los Angeles this weekend.”

A R T I C L E:

Cory Allen Contemporary Art (CACA) announces that "Fear Google" artist XVALA will be revealing the recent dumpster dived trash of Kim Kardashian, featuring the celebrity's collapsed basketball at a roof top event in Los Angeles this weekend.

"Slammed and Dunked," a life-size sculpture of the basketball salvaged from the celebrity's residential trash, was partially inspired by Kardashian's recently failed marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries and the questioned authenticity of their acclaimed nuptials.

"Many people in this country are still very concerned with marital rights - after Kim Kardashian's mockery of marriage, why should anyone take anything she does seriously, anymore?" asks artist XVALA.

The sculpture was created out of a 'recycled resin' formulated from remaining leftover garbage that was also collected from the Kardashians' trash bin. Also, a part of the collection is candid mobile phone self-portraits of the reality star that she took for Twitter and Instagram, which are backed with aluminum, also partially recycled from her personal garbage.

"By deleting everything that reveals who she really is, Kim Kardashian actually reveals her true self," said XVALA, "You can always learn something about someone by looking at their garbage, and Kim produces a lot of garbage."

"I agree with Jon Hamm. Kim Kardashian should refrain from making any more reality shows," said Cory Allen. "People aren't too entertained by divorce and failed relationships in these economically trying times."

Dumpster diving is nothing new to the artist or the mainstream media. Late last year, XVALA invaded the residential dumpsters of Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Apple's Steve Jobs, who passed away a day after the release of his personal trash. XVALA was also responsible for reconstructing celebrity Scarlett Johansson's nude photos for his "Fear Google" campaign, posting the two hacked images all through the streets in and around the Los Angeles area as street art.

"The Kim Kardashian Party," curated by The Site Unscene, will be held on March 17, 2012 in Los Angeles, Calif., on 1460 Naud Street, at the location's roof top.

Artist Dumpster Dives Zuck, Goes Public with Facebook Founder’s Trash

Author: Cory Allen Contemporary Art
Dateline: Palo Alto, California (PALO ALTO, Calif.)  | Wed, 05 Oct 2011

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Cory Allen Contemporary Art (CACA) announces that Google Artist XVALA goes dumpster diving in Silicon Valley, invading tech founders' personal trash to create a series of sculptures that has been made available to the public online and in upcoming gallery shows.”

A R T I C L E:

Cory Allen Contemporary Art (CACA) announces that Google Artist XVALA goes dumpster diving in Silicon Valley, invading tech founders' personal trash to create a series of sculptures that has been made available to the public online and in upcoming gallery shows.

"Dumpster Diving Silicon" is a series of sculptures, based on XVALA's dumpster diving practices of tech founders' residential trash cans throughout Silicon Valley. Besides Zuck, XVALA invaded the trash of Apple's Steve Jobs, Google's Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Twitter's Jack Dorsey, and Wikipedia's Jimmy Wales. The trash found at these residences range from random objects such as medical waste, adult and hygiene products, empty booze bottles to spreadsheets, hair clippings, and typical household items.

"The Zuck hanger is harmless compared to the remaining sculptures that we are releasing this month," said Cory Allen. "Personally, I think we all have things that we throw away that we don't want people to connect back to us."

"Mark Zuckerberg's Not Very Well Hung Hanger," is the first of XVALA's dumpster diving series and uses a wire coat hanger retrieved from Mark Zuckerberg's trash can, bent and shaped by hand to depict Zuckerberg's "manhood" from one view, painted Facebook-blue. "I wanted to 'expose' Zuckerberg like he exposes Facebook users, daily."

"Facebook has the potential to air everyone's dirty laundry - and does," said Cory Allen. "XVALA is making that comment by having fun with Zuckerberg by showing the world his personal trash in a provocative and artistic way."

"I'm trying to glean from Mark Zuckerberg for personal advancement the same way Zuckerberg gleans information from Facebook users for his own personal gain," said XVALA.

A gallery video, created by CACA, demonstrates an image compilation of the dumpster diving series in the making, and can be found at http://youtu.be/T2WWgGSmDGI .

Nude Bieber and Gomez Portrait as Monument to National Exceptionalism – Justin and Selena as ‘One’ in Canadian ‘Garden of Eden’

Author: Cory Allen Contemporary Art
Dateline: Dallas, Texas (DALLAS, Texas)  | Tue, 09 Aug 2011

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Despite breakup rumors, Teen Choice Award winners Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are presented as a 21st Century Adam and Eve in a new life size portrait created by controversial American artist Daniel Edwards. The portrait depicts the teenagers almost entirely nude, with a Canadian maple leaf and a Texas lone star covering their most intimate parts. The portrait will be unveiled at Dallas's New Fine Arts, near Gomez's hometown, at a time yet to be announced by Cory Allen Contemporary Art.”

A R T I C L E:

Despite breakup rumors, Teen Choice Award winners Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are presented as a 21st Century Adam and Eve in a new life size portrait created by controversial American artist Daniel Edwards. The portrait depicts the teenagers almost entirely nude, with a Canadian maple leaf and a Texas lone star covering their most intimate parts. The portrait will be unveiled at Dallas's New Fine Arts, near Gomez's hometown, at a time yet to be announced by Cory Allen Contemporary Art.

"Justin and Selena as One" features the "Adam and Eve" couple conjoined at the torso, each seeming to emerge from the other's rib. Together, they have three legs, sharing Selena's right leg as she appears to lead the younger Justin toward "Eden." The pair is being led by an amorous Canada goose and Texas armadillo.

The portrait, partly inspired by Canadian Justin Bieber's boasts of Canada's successful single payer national health care system, "should be considered for installation at Canadian Embassies around the globe as a symbol of Canada's prowess in the areas of art and commerce," according to Edwards.

"Justin and Selena joined together, symbolizes the great harmony between neighboring countries Canada and The United States," said spokesman Cory Allen. "Countries like North Korea and South Korea could learn from our example. It would be nice to exhibit this portrait in the areas of the world where tensions are high between countries that share borders."

"The portrait represents both Canadian exceptionalism and Texas-American exceptionalism, but I believe Justin and Selena would ultimately choose Canada for their Garden of Eden, because Canada's Medicare and AAA credit rating make it easier for young couples who may find themselves in the family way," said Edwards.

Artist Exposes Bieber's "Private Parts" in Exhibit:

A companion artwork, "Allegory of a Teen Sex Symbol (Justin Bieber)," shows the hidden private parts of Bieber atop a Canadian maple leaf in a manner inspired by renaissance painter Giuseppe Acrimboldo and sixties rock star groupie Cynthia Plaster Caster. "The Bieber genitalia are artistically symbolized, not depicted," says Allen. "Daniel wanted to create a work that opens a dialogue about the inevitable exploitation of teen sex symbols as they grow from child stars to adults, like we've seen with past celebutantes Lindsay, Miley, and Britney."

The artist's portrayal of Bieber's pelvic organ will be shown with a bootleg plaster cast of Jimi Hendrix's private parts at Dallas's New Fine Arts, located at 1966 W. Northwest Hwy.

Paul Madonna, the San Francisco-based artist and cartoonist known for his "All Over Coffee" series, is exclusively releasing a detailed ink wash drawing through 20x200.com, the place to discover and buy art online. Titled "Studio, All Over Coffee #392," the limited-edition print is an up close and personal look inside the artist's studio, where he produces the beloved series of strips and other cartoons and sketches. Not only does the richly detailed print offer a creative, first-hand look at an artist's workspace, it also speaks to Madonna's adeptness at rendering detail-laden environments.

From a Pez dispenser and gnarly-looking finger puppets to neatly organized inks and personal Post-it notes, the objects depicted in the print reflect Paul Madonna's playful and thoughtful nature, prevalent throughout his series of comic strips. His renowned All Over Coffee strips are as recognizable for their stunning San Francisco cityscape imagery as they are for their thoughtful writing, which ranges from meditative musings to overheard conversations. Offering a blend of the appeal of comics with the depth of poetry, All Over Coffee is published weekly in the San Francisco Chronicle. In 2007, the first collection of "All Over Coffee" was published by City Lights Books. A new collection, "Everything is Its Own Reward," followed in 2011.

Paul Madonna's Studio, All Over Coffee #392 is available exclusively on 20x200. The exhibition-quality prints start at $20 for an 8 inch x 10 inch fine art print (edition of 200). The work is also available at $50 for an 11 inch x 14 inch print (edition of 500), and for $200 for a 16 inch x 20 inch print (in an edition of 20). The new edition represents Paul Madonna's fourth print release on 20x200. He previously released Balsa Planes #3, Balsa Planes #4 and Album 1.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Paul Madonna started his career as the first Art Intern at MAD magazine. He eventually moved to San Francisco, where he began drawing mini comic strips for free. Paul Madonna is best known for his weekly strips, All Over Coffee, that appear in the San Francisco Chronicle and SFGate.com, and also Small Potatoes, which is featured on TheRumpus.net. Paul Madonna's drawings and prints are shown in museums, galleries, restaurants and cafes. His work, including his coverage of the U.S. 2009 Presidential Inauguration for several international newspapers, is published in various book collections and publications. He is currently the Comics Editor on TheRumpus.net and also teaches drawing at the University of San Francisco.

Epic Image Entertainment, Eyevox Entertainment and Paragon Design Group recently produced the book trailer Night of the Living Trekkies for Quirk Books publishing. The trailer, which was released on Sept. 14 has already had more than 90,000 views on YouTube and has received raving reviews from the blogosphere.

The book is the story of Jim Pike, the world's biggest Star Trek fan-until two tours of duty in Afghanistan destroyed his faith in the human race. Now he sleepwalks through life as the assistant manager of a small hotel in downtown Houston. But when hundreds of Trekkies arrive in his lobby for a science-fiction convention, Jim finds himself surrounded by costumed Klingons, Vulcans, and Ferengi - plus a strange virus that transforms its carriers into savage, flesh-eating zombies! The book, "Night of the Living Trekkies" (ISBN-13: 978-1594744631), is currently available on Amazon.

Becoming more common in the book publishing industry, but usually not as complex, the Night of the Living Trekkies book trailer was directed by Justin Lutsky from Epic Image Entertainment, written by Opie Cooper and produced by Eyevox Entertainment. Savannah-based Paragon Design Group provided motion graphics and worked with Mad Genius Inc, a sister company of Eyevox Entertainment, on visual effects.

Cooper says the trailer has hit a chord with viewers, in particular Star Trek fanatics, "The trailer takes the viewer on a gory ride that strikes the perfect balance between humor and geekiness, packed full of insider references that will likely go unnoticed by all but true Star Trek fans."

Though the project was done in a very short time frame with partners spread across the country, Lutsky says the finished project is something that all the partners can be proud of. "The level of sophistication and detail involved in the trailer speaks to the unfathomable talent of everyone involved. I am extremely proud of each partner and the end result of the Night of the Living Trekkies trailer," said Lutsky.

Susan Isaacs from Paragon Design Group agrees that the trailer was an opportunity for them to showcase their talents in a not so conventional way. "Zombies and gore are not really typical of the type of graphics we do, so this was a fun departure for us," said Isaacs. "In the end the experience is all about the creative collaboration and this was a great group of people to work with."

Quirk Books has been delighted with the trailer and its impact on book sales. "When we initially approached Justin about doing the trailer we had no idea how ambitious his creative team would be. Needless to say we were blown away!"

The group is already working on a number of additional projects including a reality show and a horror anthology with a twist. There is also some discussion about a feature film version of a zombie attack at a sci-fi convention.

Tabloid artist Xvala will introduce his latest art piece, the "Tiger Woods Rambovian Rosewood Glory Hole And Golf Furniture" in a soon to be revealed location on April 21st in Los Angeles, California. Today Tiger Woods returns to the PGA to contend at the 2010 Masters after a five month hiatus and media frenzied exploitation of his private affairs. In his return, Woods will have the support from some, including the notable sponsor Nike, as well as, face challenges and new allegations such as his involvement with performance enhancing drugs. The backlash and attention Woods has received isn't a shock, but Xvala's answer to it has people interested in Rambovian furniture and glory holes.

"I want to show that political correctness hasn't crushed the humanity out of everything," says Xvala.

The urban dictionary refers to "Rambovian" as a slang term inspired by the hard-hitting and unapologetic Sylvester Stallone character "John Rambo."

"Xvala has created a new innovation that will have people questioning art and the proper use of their furniture," says publicist Cory Allen.

The "Tiger Woods Rambovian Rosewood Glory Hole and Golf Furniture" is 60 inches in diameter with a super high gloss reflective surface and a six inch hole in the center. The glory hole tabletop was fabricated under the direction of the artist by a commercial furniture maker that has an established working relationship with high-end gaming and resort brands such as Wynn Las Vegas, Bellagio Las Vegas and with Trump.

"With today's dysfunctional families you need to do things different," Xvala stated, "so instead of making useful furniture and meaningless art, I made meaningless furniture and useful art."

One of the artist's most well-known works is the recent construction of "The Brangelina," a 4,000 sq. ft. house, covered in graffiti and hosts the ceiling piece, "Brangelina Forever" by sculptor Daniel Edwards.

A video highlighting the piece "Fashion Shoot - The Decline Of Western Civilization : A Golf Odyssey" was released can be seen on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmDxjYPqybI .
