Superhero Cooking School, YouTube’s Hottest New Comedy Show, Provides Comedic Relief with Zoom-Filmed Episode

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- "Superhero Cooking School," a new web comedy series, has been generating laughs around the world. Featured exclusively on YouTube, Superhero Cooking School was created by Gina Nemo, an award-winning actress and filmmaker, and founder of G Plan Media, and has earned acclaim for its unique comedic style and Saturday Night Live vibes, where actors create characters and parody famous comic book personalities.

Nemo, the creator of Superhero Cooking School, was determined to continue filming despite the COVID-19 pandemic. She made the decision last month to shoot episode eight of the series exclusively on the telecommunication platform Zoom.

Now in its first season, production was ongoing through March 2020 until the stay-at-home orders were announced to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Halting in-person production for Superhero Cooking School, creative steps were taken to ensure the show would go on.

"We upload a new episode every Thursday at noon PST," remarked Nemo. "We were running out of episodes, and I had to get creative to deliver for our fans around the world."

Nemo, determined to find a way to film new episodes, decided to shoot episode eight, the latest in the series, exclusively on the telecommunication platform Zoom. The idea first came to Nemo last month after her acting classes, and private auditions, were transitioned to Zoom due to the coronavirus. Featuring in-character interviews and more, the innovative Zoom style offers an exciting twist for fans of the series. Future episodes will be filmed similarly until stay-at-home orders are lifted, paying homage to millions around the world now dependent on the telecommunication platform.

Starring Sebastian Sage, Russel Donahue, Alphonse Philippe Mouzon, Belle Nemo, Michael Charles Jr., Michael DiGiulio, and Robert DiGiulio, watch Superhero Cooking School on YouTube or visit http://cookingschoolforsuperheros.com/ to learn more.

BHERC ‘Operation Love’ Set to Deliver Mother’s Day Sunday Meals and Essential Goods to Homeless Families in Washington, DC and Baltimore

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) continues its "Operation Love" outreach Saturday May 9, and Sunday, May 10, 2020 in Washington D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland targeting homeless families with "underlying" health and psychosocial conditions who have been extremely impacted by COVID 19 shelter in place mandates and need assistance.

This effort will provide A Mother's Day meal or grocery box with two weeks of food with healthy recipes, Laced with Love on how to prepare the meals and a gift basket of essential items for 500 families living shelters, special housing and homeless encampments. The program has reached over 2000 seniors and homeless individuals since the start of the pandemic. Some of the agencies will pick up the gift boxes from 3532 Massachusetts Ave NW, while others will be delivered directly to the shelter or encampment, a list of the agencies can be found below.

"Operation Love" meals and gift baskets are for homeless families living in the shelters or special housing programs including their children, and caregivers. As we begin to celebrate Nurses Week, "Year of the Nurse and Midwife," the Mother's Day dinner, grocery boxes and gift baskets are being donated in honor of Dr. Bernardine M. Lacey an extraordinary nurse leader. Dr. Bernardine Lacey, is credited with starting the movement to include care of the underserved in the nursing curriculum and she started the first nurse operated homeless clinic at the D Street Shelter, in Washington, D.C. Because of this movement, the profession is better prepared to care for the most vulnerable populations in the American society.

"This small showing of love is both a practical and a heartfelt demonstration of the importance of our most vulnerable populations. We want the homeless to know they have not been forgotten in the midst of our mandated and necessary physical distancing," states Sandra Evers-Manly, President of BHERC.

The gift basket includes feminine hygiene products, hard to find items such as: gloves, toilet paper, face masks, hand sanitizer and various other essential items. In addition, the children's book Raised by Mrs. Manly and her Ls, written by Ms. Sandra Evers-Manly and other toys will be given to the children. The meals and baskets will be prepared and delivered using City/State and CDC guidelines. Contributors to the gift baskets include the Living Legend Dr. Bernardine Lacey, Dr. Shirley Evers-Manly, President All Health Care/Imani's, the National Black Nurses Association, Gwendylon Johnson, member Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority,

During this unprecedented time in our lives, the COVID19 worldwide health and humanitarian pandemic is redefining the very way we live our lives daily. In many instances, eclipsing the future of what daily work, education, entertainment and play will look like in the future for all of us. In addition to the need for essential supplies is the need for emotional support. "Operation Love delivers a strong message that you are not alone in these difficult times. We are with you!" says Evers-Manly.

At BHERC, this is the kind of action that has made the BHERC family, its friends and colleagues, unique as we demonstrate an enthusiastic abiding support and responsive manner when called upon over the years. BHERC encourages everyone that can to act.

"Let's remind the ones around us how much they matter. Encourage them to stay strong and steadfast," states Evers-Manly.

The BHERC family encourages everyone to consider supporting the vulnerable populations, You can:
* Contact a homeless shelter to check on their needs
* If shopping (do so under City/State and CDC guidelines), pick up an item or two for a homeless family or someone in need (practice social distancing)
* Donate or make mask for the shelter or isolated seniors
* Send an online order to someone in need

In addition to the focus on homeless, the BHERC Operation Love is focused on distributing masks to seniors and supporting the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA). Last week the BHERC president made a contribution to the NBNA to create a special fund to support nurses on the front-line battling COVID19 and to curate an online instructional program for Nurses to Help Nurses. The NBNA donation will also provide 1000 masks for NBNA nurses and provide support for their distribution of masks, meals, nursing education, and culturally sensitive health education materials where chapters are located across the country.

"Each and every one of us must reach out in a safe way to make sure vulnerable populations have someone to talk to, have medications and have enough food to eat during these difficult times," expressed Dr. Martha A. Dawson, President of the National Black Nurses Association. "We are pleased to partner with Ms. Sandra Evers-Manly during these challenging times."

Everyone can all join in the fight by making just a quick phone call or sending a simple text message. Keeping each other positive and reminding your neighbors and loved ones that even in our isolation, we are not alone. #BHERCStrongTogether

New Children’s Book Opens Door for Dialogue About Grief and Death

ATLANTA, Ga. -- When Bryson Thompson, Sr.'s mother passed away from stomach cancer in 2016, he grappled with how to tell his 3-year old son that he would never see his beloved grandmother again. It was this life-changing event that sparked him to write, "How Angels are Made" (ISBN: 978-1735023809).

Thompson wrote the first version only two days after returning from his mother's funeral when it became apparent that his son needed more answers than he was readily able to give. His son was confused and grieving and needed help to work through this trying time which turned the world he knew upside down.

Bryson focused his energy to create a book that would help him and his family to clearly communicate with their son about grief and death. He quickly realized that if this book could help his family to heal, it could help others too. He also saw a need for a book that focused on an African-American family.

"There are very few books on the subject where African Americans are at the center," he says.

Based on a true story about the bond between Bryson's son and mother, "How Angels are Made" is a transformational children's book that fosters needed conversations between youth and adults about grief and death. It highlights actual conversations that took place between he, his wife and their son.

In the beginning, the book highlights their personal relationship and then moves into the family's experience of dealing with loss.

Bryson exceeded his Kickstarter campaign goal with one week left, which ironically happened the day before his mother's birthday, and plans to end the campaign, which is now in its "stretch goal" and appropriately scheduled to end on Mother's Day. The additional funds will allow Bryson to provide even more free copies of the book to local schools, libraries and children who have lost a loved one or friend, than originally anticipated.

"With one in five youth currently having to deal with the death of someone close to them by the time they are 19, 'How Angels are Made' will resonate with many families around the world," Bryson says. "It's also ideal for schools, therapists, church groups and more. My hope is that this book will be a tool to help change lives."

About the Author

Bryson Thompson has more than 10 years' experience as a special education teacher and mental health professional. He's a husband, father, educator, mentor and entrepreneur. He has dedicated his life to finding ways to uplift young men and women. With a degree in Special Education from Clemson University and a Masters in Behavior/Learning Disabilities from Georgia State University, he continually works to find ways to enhance the life and experience of the future generation.

The book will be available to the public in June and pre-orders can be made here: https://howangelsaremade.com/

Champions of Southern Queer Visibility Announce Second Virtual Telethon

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Y'all ready for a second helping? Wussy Mag, Queer Appalachia, and Southern Fried Queer Pride, three powerhouse stewards of Southern and Appalachian queer culture, have teamed up again to bring you "The Big Ass Telethon to End Metronormativity: PART TWO." The livestream event celebrating rural queer artists will air on Saturday, May 30 at 5pm PDT/8pm EDT on Twitch at @endmetronormativity.

The first telethon, which aired April 25, was an overwhelming success, bringing in nearly 2,500 views (and counting) and raising nearly $10,000 in donations. The diverse line-up included celebrity guest appearances from Orville Peck, Whitney Cummings, Amanda Lepore, Bob the Drag Queen, Lance Bass, Fortune Feimster, Tammie Brown, Shamir, Lori Petty, Del Shores, CHRISTEENE, Deven Greene, and original Stonewall activist Miss Major.

Viewers can expect "The Big Ass Telethon to End Metronormativity: PART TWO" to offer an equally eclectic mix of southern-fried artistry. The first telethon showcased drag artists, singers, and performers from across the south including Tristan Scroggins, JayBella Banks, Davey Swinton, Ian Aber, The Paisley Fields, Zoe Boekbinder, Libbaloops, Hannah Mayree, Julian Modugno, and Miss He. Atlanta-based drag performers Brigitte Bidet and Ella/Saurus/Rex will return to co-host the livestream event.

Organizers of the telethon aim to not only support southern artists impacted by COVID-19, but also to raise awareness of the problems that metronormativity pose to rural queer visibility. Metronormativity assumes that while rural and urban existences differ, urban queer life represents the "norm", often turning a blind eye to bigoted, stereotypical portrayals of rural culture.

Online applications for micro-grants and the second telethon opened on Friday, May 1. Artists and performers from all LGBTQ+ backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Proceeds from the event will go to performers and other rural community members in need of support. Ongoing donations are encouraged at @endmetronormativity on Venmo/Cash App or endmetronormativity@gmail.com on PayPal.

Local Texas Author Uses Quarantine to Finish Novel Early

LEAGUE CITY, Texas -- COVID-19 is keeping everyone at home and many people out of work. When Tim Frankovich's freelance work dried up, he turned to writing instead. Today, he announced publication of his second novel, "Until All Bonds Are Broken" (ISBN: 978-1733328524).

"I published my first novel last August, and had planned to release the second one a year later," Tim explained. "With all this extra time, I sped up the process. It's ready now!"

Growing up in Galveston County, Tim Frankovich was always interested in writing. At age 8 in Texas City, his mother showed him how to cut up a brown grocery sack to make a "book." He quickly drew a story of Godzilla fighting superheroes. Since then, he's gotten a little bit better at the writing part (not so much with the drawing).

Not long after that, Tim borrowed "The Lord Of The Rings" from the Texas City library and his lifelong love of epic fantasy took off. Today, he is proud that his own epic fantasy novels are being published.

"Until All Bonds Are Broken" is Tim's second book, the sequel to his debut novel, "Until All Curses Are Lifted" (ISBN: 978-1733328500). Set in the fantasy realm of Antises, the books tell the story of Marshal, a young man seeking to escape a curse he received for his father's crimes, and Seri, a young woman who is trying to find the cause of the land's failing magic. The books feature adventure, monsters, a lost king, walkers between worlds, a leper assassin, and a rusty old flail.

"Until All Bonds Are Broken" is available in ebook and paperback at amazon.com and wherever good books are sold! Paperback: $14.99. Ebook: $5.99.

NYT Bestseller Tosca Lee Offers Comfort, Entertainment with Nightly Story Time

LINCOLN, Neb. -- New York Times bestselling author Tosca Lee has spent the last five weeks reading to her fans live on Facebook during "Story Time with Tosca." The nightly event started March 20 with a promise to read until quarantine is no longer necessary - which means she has no idea when she'll stop.

Lee is currently reading from "The Progeny," her bestselling thriller in development for TV. She read previously from her award-winning novel, Iscariot, chosen by her readers. (Poll results were close-Lee's 2019 pandemic thriller, "The Line Between," came in second to perennial Easter season favorite, "Iscariot," which won out over a novel eerily close to current reality.)

Tonight marks her 40th consecutive Story Time in what has become, for many, a daily highlight-featuring laughter, giveaways, and appearances by Lee's 150-pound giant German Shepherd, Timber, the breakout star of the nightly broadcast who has become so popular fans have begun requesting the dog's paw print "signature" in addition to Lee's on signed book orders.

For Story Time regulars, the 40-minute evening event provides a much-needed escape from pandemic news and the rigors of quarantine. Josie Siler, a Wisconsin resident and chronic illness warrior, says, "It's an incredible gift that Tosca is giving her readers each night." Michigan resident Les Braddock says Lee's nightly Story Time "has done wonders in helping to maintain a level of normalcy."

"It's been a blessing for my family in return," Lee says. "A much-needed bit of routine in days that feel like they're running together." From days that are a little extra surreal given how closely the news has mirrored her 2019 bestselling thriller, "The Line Between."

A Washington outbreak... closed schools... quarantined towns... borders shut down.

The spate of recent headlines is also the plotline of Lee's medical thriller, "The Line Between," which released January, 2019 from Howard Books/Simon & Schuster-a year before COVID-19 arrived in the U.S. The book's sequel, "A Single Light "(September, 2019, Howard Books/Simon & Schuster) comes to paperback August 17.

Watching the news over a year after the release of "The Line Between" - a Goodreads Choice Awards semifinalist for best mystery/thriller of 2019 - Lee calls life "eerie and surreal." Another one of the reasons Lee, herself, finds solace in Story Time with her readers.

"The Line Between" has been optioned by Radar Pictures ("Jumanji") and Ed Burns' Marlboro Road Gang Productions ("Public Morals") and is in development for television as first reported by Deadline Hollywood: https://deadline.com/2019/01/edward-burns-radar-developing-the-line-between-thriller-novel-for-television-1202538907/

Pandemic Pushes L.A. Arts Nonprofit, Dream A World Education, from Classroom to Television

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Dream A World Education, an LAUSD and Hawthorne School District provider of arts and social-emotional education working in areas of extreme poverty, has turned school closures into an opportunity to move their artists from classrooms to television and virtual recyclable programming.

This will fill a need beginning April 20 when students are depending on learning delivered into homes from now until the end of the school year. They are working with their 11 partner schools and teachers to make this happen.

"Beyond the need for the continuation of their academic education, there's a need for children's mental and emotional health that needs to be met, especially in the communities we serve," says Bunny Hull, Dream A World Education's Founder and Executive Director. "There's also a need for us to continue to support our artists who have been hard hit by this."

Secrets of the Heart TV features core national standards-based educational content which provides arts, language, culture and social-emotional learning for children 4-8. It's delivered by professional working artists, multicultural Teaching Artists, who have been left scrambling for work and have moved seamlessly from classroom to screen. This is programming that's not Wifi dependent for the 700,000 families across L.A. County who have no connection to the internet.

Episodes of Secrets of the Heart TV will be broadcast in Los Angeles starting April 20 on LA36 public access television, and through YouTube on their website. These are reusable tools that Dream A World Education is offering not only to the 4,000 students they normally serve, but making it available to anyone who can benefit. They are looking for additional television partners nationwide.

This is FREE programming which provides meaningful experiences and discussions to children and families at home. There is a lesson plan attached to each video, in English and Spanish. LA36 will air episodes multiple times a week beginning Monday, April 20, the official launch day.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- On April 15, J.Scalco released a new pop single, "Feeling' Like a God." Under the ScareKrow, Inc. label and produced by Daryl Lamont, the song is available on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music and all the other streaming platforms.

Scalco, a Los-Angeles musician, says that he hopes this song will inspire people to stand up to personal struggles with everything from anxiety and depression to drug addiction.

"These are subjects that many people are afraid to talk about and deal with in the U.S.," Scalco says. "I've had personal experience with these things and know it's important not to sweep them under the table."

Scalco explains that the lyrics are designed for people to interpret as serves them best. Subtly infused in the subtext of the song's lyrics is a story about a relationship with drugs. How do they make people feel and what are the perils of addiction? Scalco says that the lyrics don't just apply to drugs. They can apply to any type of addiction.

"Anxiety and depression are real struggles and this song dives into it," Scalco says.
