Southern Iowa Mayor Issues Life-Changing Challenge to His Community

OSCEOLA, Iowa -- How often are you asked, "How far would you go for what you need?" Would you ever answer, "Across the entire state?" That's exactly what Thomas Kedley, Mayor of Osceola in Southern Iowa, has challenged himself to do through Operation Recreation.

A run across the entire state of Iowa certainly takes serious commitment, but, true leadership also takes commitment - and Mayor Kedley understands that. These days, it's not just the duties as Mayor, coach, educator, and new father that Kedley focuses on, but how to harness the success of his own personal evolution from overweight teenager to a healthy, passionate leader of a growing community that finds itself in desperate need of its own health and wellness guidance.

Osceola, Iowa is a sleepy manufacturing city in the heart of south central Iowa. The people work hard and, as Mayor, Kedley wants to see their hard work pay off. In 2016, Clarke County Iowa, of which Osceola is the county seat, was ranked 98th out of all 99 counties in Iowa for health and wellness. This news, received shortly after his election, shook Mayor Kedley to the core -- literally.

"Growing up as an overweight kid in Iowa, I know the struggles families face when it comes to the availability of health and wellness options," Kedley stated. "If it weren't for the local Rec Center where I grew up, who knows where my life would be today."

Tipping the scales at over 300 pounds by age 17, young Thomas Kedley had to cut weight to wrestle as a heavyweight in high school. His blood pressure was equal to that of people twice his age and his knowledge of nutritional values was based on what he received through subsidized school lunches and quick meals at home.

Once Thomas had a public facility to go to on a regular basis, and through the support and education from around his community, he started his path to wellness. While it didn't happen overnight, Mayor Kedley now works daily on his health and, at almost half his heaviest weight, considers his life saved and the best it has ever been.

Elected in 2015, one of the first items Mayor Kedley had on his agenda was the development of a new Recreation Center for the City of Osceola. Currently without public fitness facilities, the community is forced to share time and space with the middle school, the high school and their sports teams. This, for a growing community, has become quite a challenge and consequently a detriment to the school's aging facilities.

"I understand the challenges working families face when it comes to being healthy," said Kedley. "Not everyone is able to join a club, hire a personal trainer, or participate in organized sports. That's why we need to provide low-cost, year-round public access to the building blocks of good health and an improved quality of life."

Moving quickly on his plan, Kedley, his wife Becca and other leaders in the community established Operation Recreation, a non-profit dedicated to raising funds needed to build a recreation center capable of supporting the thriving community. It's the team's goal to have funding enough to break ground and start development as soon as 2018 with council approval.

"That's where the challenge developed," said Kedley. "To get shovels in the ground on a timeline this community needs, my goal is for Operation Recreation to raise over $250,000 by the end of the summer. If we can do it, I'll run the entire state of Iowa, from the Minnesota border to the Missouri border, to show my gratitude."

While Kedley knows he can count on the dedication to the Rec Center from his friends and family, his associates, and those throughout the community, his hope is also to raise awareness for health and wellness across the state of Iowa. From townships to cities around the state, Kedley knows the challenge rural Iowa faces keeping health and wellness as a priority mindset.

By issuing this life-changing challenge, he hopes his personal evolution and success will impact and motivate others to do the same.

Number of Minnesota Students Supported by Edupoint Synergy Surpasses 210,000

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Edupoint(R) Educational Systems, creator of the industry-leading Synergy(R) Education Platform for K-12 student information and learning management, has been selected by Minnesota's Forest Lake Area Schools and Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools to implement the company's Synergy Student Information System, bringing the total number of Minnesota students supported by Synergy to more than 210,000.

Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools is the state's fourth largest district, with more than 27,000 PreK-12 students. Forest Lake Area Schools serves over 6,000 students from 12 communities. Located in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, both districts are members of the state's Technology and Information Educational Services (TIES), a technology solution collaborative owned by 48 member districts, serving more than 400 schools and about 40 percent of Minnesota's students. In 2015, TIES became Edupoint's second certified marketing and technology and support partner for the State of Minnesota, joining long-time Synergy business partner Region 1, based in Moorhead.

"We were using the TIES student information system that is now sunsetting," said Tim Brockman, Supervisor of Information Systems for Forest Lake Area Schools. "When TIES chose Synergy as the replacement system, we decided to do our own analysis to be sure we agreed with that selection. We compared Synergy to two other major student information systems, Infinite Campus and Skyward, and our committee selected Synergy as the best of the three solutions. We also liked the fact that Edupoint was partnered with TIES, which provides excellent benefits to its member districts. We enjoy working with TIES and appreciated the fact that we would continue to get support from the consortium."

As a key technology source for its member districts, TIES provides software systems, professional development, technology integration training for teachers, transportation outsourcing, technical consulting, hardware and software support, and ISP services.

"Synergy's growth in Minnesota reflects the need of K-12 districts for an education platform that provides a modern user interface and addresses both student information and learning management needs, built on a single, centralized database that eliminates the frustration of integration issues," says Rob Wilson, Edupoint's President and Chief Innovation Officer. "We are pleased with Edupoint's momentum in Minnesota and look forward to continuing our successful partnerships with TIES and Region 1 and to further expansion throughout the state."

About Edupoint Educational Systems:

For over thirty years, the leadership of Edupoint Educational Systems has provided well-designed, technologically-advanced student data management systems that empower all K-12 stakeholders with the tools they need to improve student achievement. The fully-integrated Synergy(R) Education Platform includes Synergy(R) SIS, the most powerful K-12 student information system available today, Synergy(R) LMS, an all-in-one learning and assessment platform, and Synergy(R) SE, a comprehensive special education data management system. Thousands of schools nationwide choose the Synergy Education Platform to support more than 3.5 million students.

Famous Handguns of the World Collection in Miniature Now Available

ROME, Ga. -- Hampton & Weaver, a small firm in historic Rome, Georgia has begun producing a Collection of "Famous Handguns of the World" in one-quarter scale. These mini-replicas vary from 1 1/2-inches to 3 3/4-inches in length, are cast from zinc, electroplated with silver and an antiqued finish is applied to accentuate the features of each miniature. Every model is simply exquisite, with aesthetic detail ingrained into each creation.

Each of the mini-replicas is shown with a detailed description and condensed history on the company's website. Currently, there are three mini-replicas shown, with a fourth in the process of being created.

The first mini-replica is the renowned 1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol, that icon of the ages. Second is the Colt Single Action Army Revolver, while the third is the historic P.08 Luger. The fourth - in the works now - is the C96 "Broomhandle" Mauser.

The list of the 12 handgun replicas in the Collection are ranked in order of nostalgia and notoriety. The C96 Mauser is followed by the Webley Mark VI, the Colt Walker .44, Colt Python, Hi-Power, Auto Mag, S&W J-Frame, Beretta 92 and Glock.

"The condensed histories of each replica on the website contain some very interesting facts. The 1911A1 was actually also manufactured by the Nazis in WWII!" says Frank Hindman, founder and president of Hampton & Weaver.

The SAA was first issued to General Custer's 7th Cavalry, but is more recognized as Marshall Dillon's quick-draw revolver on the "Gunsmoke" TV series.

The Luger, mostly associated with the German army in WWI and WWII, is also known as the Pistole Parabellum 1908. The Parabellum means, ironically, "If you want peace, prepare for war." The C96 Mauser is nicknamed the "Broomhandle" because its grip closely resembles a real broom handle.

Each semi-auto pistol replica is housed in a Black velvet presentation box with a Red pre-formed insert in the shape of the pistol. The revolvers are housed in a Red presentation box with a Black insert pre-formed in the shape of the revolver. The presentation boxes for both pistols and revolvers have a Gold-plated panel identifying the handgun in letters inlaid with Black enamel. A 2nd Amendment/Bill of Rights logo is Gold-gilded on the inside of the lid of the presentation boxes.

Roy Huntington, Editor and Publisher of American Handgunner magazine, was instrumental in helping compile the list of the 12 Most Famous Handguns of the World and, upon receiving one of the first 1911A1 production replicas, he described it in the magazine as, "The best I have ever seen!"

The mini-replica line is produced by a small company named Hampton & Weaver. It was started in 1968 by Frank W. Hindman II and manufactured a range of products including mascot pins for high schools, fishing jigs and over a million designer belt buckles. He made the first 1911A1 mini-replica over 25 years ago, but it was one-half scale and retailed for $179, far out of the price range for most Americans. Only a few were made.

With new manufacturing technology, experience and expertise, the new one-quarter scale mini-replicas retail for only $19.95 with the exception of the Colt Walker .44 which, due to its size, 3 3/4-inches in length, will retail for $24.95.

The initial list of the 12 most famous handguns may be extended to 16 or, possibly, more. Even an 8-inch long military version of the Thompson Sub-Machine Gun is under consideration for later production.

The pricing is very attractive considering the excellent quality of the products.

This is a very unusual product line, with a hint of history included, and a choice of a free patriotic gift with each replica purchased.

The mini-replicas can be viewed and ordered and the company contacted by visiting the website, http://www.firearmsassurefreedom.com/.

AOMEI System Backup Is An All-Round Solution, Not Just as OS Protection But as Much More

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. -- AOMEI Technology, the easiest backup service provider, offers the best free system backup solution - AOMEI Backupper. It will automatically include the necessary system and boot files in the backup image to ensure a secure restore to computer with similar and dissimilar hardware. Now, AOMEI Backupper has reached over 10 million happy users and the number is continuously growing.

"System backup has never been this simple and straightforward," Noozil Lander from Auckland said, "For many years I used Ghost to backup my Windows systems. It would drive me crazy when it stopped functioning without explanation. I discovered AOMEI Backupper some years ago and have never looked back. The logic of the interface is easy to follow. I love the Explore Image utility! It's fast and accurate. Believe me when I say it's been a repeated lifesaver."

When you finish installing Windows 10, 8, or 7 with frequently-used programs, it is recommended to create a system image as you will never know when an unexpected issue happens, like system crash, virus attack, hardware failure, etc. With a system backup, you can restore system to earlier date and all the program and settings will be as the state when the backup was created.

When you want to upgrade to a larger hard drive or a faster SSD, you can backup your system to an external hard drive and then boot from AOMEI Bootable Media to restore system image to the new drive so as to migrate OS to SSD without reinstalling Windows and applications.

Besides saving your system from crash, a system backup image can also be used to deploy a well configured system to multiple computers including those with dissimilar hardware. This is really helpful if you manage a lot of computers and want to upgrade their operating system.

As the easiest PC backup software, AOMEI Backupper has many advantages over Windows built-in Backup and Restore tool. It is much faster and secure because it uses block-by-block backup instead of file-by-file; it will compress the backup image file by default (high compression option is also available) to save backup disk space; it can keep many scheduled backup tasks instead of only one.

For making the system backup more efficient, AOMEI Backupper provides advanced automatic backup followed by incremental backup or differential backup. A system backup can be triggered at a specific time in daily, weekly, monthly or on a specific event.

Some additional features to make the backup go smooth:
* Notify you via email when a backup is performed.
* Add encryption for backups.
* Compress backup image for saving disk space.
* Split image to multiple into multiple smaller ones.

Dr. Saenz's winning project is the study of "Alterations in the Gastric Landscape and the Effects on Helicobacter Pylori Pathogenesis." Helicobacter pylori is a common bacterium, and infects approximately 50 percent of the world's population and is the cause of several gastrointestinal diseases.

"I am honored to have received this award and equally honored to receive your words of encouragement," said Dr. Saenz after being notified by Feinstein.

The first Research Scholar recipient was recently selected to receive Congressional funding through the Department of Defense to continue investigating "Targeting B Cell-Mediated Type II Autoimmunity in Gastric Carcinogenesis," initiated with the Foundation's support.

City of Sacramento deploys its first Small Cell site

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Working with 5 BARS(R), a leading innovator in Small Cell, distributed antenna systems (DAS) and Wi-Fi wireless services for intelligent infrastructure, the City of Sacramento has approved its first small cell test sites with two major wireless carriers.

Sacramento has been inundated with permit applications for small cell wireless facilities in the right of way. In a race to densify existing networks, wireless providers often submit multiple applications, in some cases over 40 applications simultaneously. As Sacramento struggled to work with carriers on better designs and locations for each submission, the City reached out to 5 Bars to act as a liaison between the carriers and the city's planning department.

After an extensive RFP process, the City of Sacramento selected 5 Bars to develop a Wireless Master Plan on behalf of the City of Sacramento. 5 Bars is successfully working with all 4 major carriers to minimize visual blight and accelerate cellular coverage for the citizens of Sacramento.

"This initial small cell site is the direct result from a collaborative effort between 5 Bars, the City of Sacramento and the carriers. We worked in collaboration on an approval process and an aesthetically pleasing solution that works for everyone," said Darin Arcolino, IT Director with the City of Sacramento.

As the California Legislature works to pass SB 649, a Bill that would preempt local authority on small cell siting by eliminating local zoning and aesthetic requirements, the City of Sacramento and 5 Bars proactively worked with the carriers to incentivize the deployment of wireless facility designs, where antennas and radios compliment existing structures.

"We have been working diligently with the City of Sacramento and the carriers to ensure the citizens receive the benefits of great coverage, and the carriers get what they need. Orchestrating a solution that all parties can agree to in a timely manner is a win-win for all," said Monnie McGaffigan, President 5 Bars.

As a result, the City of Sacramento has issued and built its first test site. Additionally, hundreds of applications are in process for smalls cells throughout the city. 5 Bars continues to work with the City of Sacramento towards its connected city goals.

About 5 Bars:

5 Bars is an Irvine, California, privately held premier provider of Wireless Master Plans for Counties, Cities and Large Scale Venues developing comprehensive wireless strategies through a unique holistic view of all assets, coverage and capacity. 5 Bars offers fully managed wireless solutions, network development, ownership and end-to-end management delivering commercial indoor and outdoor distributed antenna systems (DAS), carrier-grade Wi-Fi networks, and small cell systems on behalf of properties and service providers.

New Legislation Enables Massachusetts Jurisdictions to Electronically Record Land Court Documents

PROVO, Utah -- Simplifile, a leading provider of real estate document collaboration and recording technologies for lenders, settlement agents, and counties, announced that it is now electronically recording Land Court documents in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the first time.

In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, about 80 percent of real property is "recorded land" whose record keeping is conducted by the recorded land department. The remaining 20 percent of real property, called "registered land," is subject to stricter policies and managed by the registered land department, also known as the Land Court. Land registration documents related to registered land are commonly referred to as "Land Court documents."

Until recently, Massachusetts law dictated that recorders must retain original, hard-copy Land Court documents, making electronic recording of those documents impossible. Early this year, however, the governor of Massachusetts signed into law House Bill 3862, overturning the requirement and allowing registers of deeds throughout the state to e-record Land Court documents for the first time.

Hampden County, Norfolk County, and Southern Essex District were the first Massachusetts jurisdictions to record Land Court documents on April 12. All three jurisdictions have been e-recording recorded land documents for years and were eager to extend the benefits of e-recording to the Land Court.

"In 2004, the Hampden County Registry of Deeds was the first governmental agency on the east coast to perform an electronic recording. On April 12, 2017, we once again made history by being the first registry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to record a registered land document," said Hampden County Register of Deeds Donald E. Ashe. "These historic events would not be possible without Simplifile's hard work, dedication, and innovation in the field of electronic recording of documents."

E-recording enables document submitters to avoid the time and expense of mailing documents or making a trip to the registry of deeds. Instead, they can scan and securely submit documents directly from their home or office.

Registers of deeds also benefit from the efficiency of e-recording. If a submitted document has an issue that must be resolved before it can be recorded, the recording clerk can electronically reject the document, immediately informing the submitter why the document is ineligible for recordation. Without e-recording, it can take days to notify the submitter of a document error. With e-recording, the submitter can receive notification and re-submit a corrected document in minutes.

"Simplifile has been helping Massachusetts jurisdictions e-record documents related to recorded land since 2007," said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile. "Registers of deeds throughout the commonwealth have come to appreciate the efficiency, cost savings and customer service benefits of e-recording - and now they can apply those benefits across their recording workload."

More than 1,606 recording offices throughout the United States now record deeds, mortgages, and other documents electronically using Simplifile. For an up-to-date list of all jurisdictions currently e-recording with Simplifile, visit https://simplifile.com/e-recording-counties.
