Edupoint Selected by Maine DOE as Sole Provider of State Level Student Information and Reporting System

MESA, Ariz. -- Edupoint(R) Educational Systems, creator of the industry-leading Synergy(R) Education Platform for K-12 student information and learning management, has been selected by the Maine Department of Education (Maine DOE) to provide a State Level Student Information and Reporting System (SSIRS).

As the sole award recipient from a field of seven competitive bidders, the Synergy State solution will replace the state's existing Infinite Campus State Edition with a scalable student information database to aggregate data from all school administrative units (SAUs), using Ed-Fi to collect data on Maine's 180,000 students for state and federal reporting mandated by the state's Department of Education.

"Maine's student data represents one of the cornerstones for the Department of Education as we try to make informed decisions on improving educational results," says Maine's Education Data Manager, Brian Snow. "The Synergy product promises better control of the quality of information collected, which can then ensure better decisions."

The Synergy State solution will provide Maine with a centralized database that connects SAU local data systems with the state's student data collection process, improving overall reporting functionality and the quality and accuracy of student data. Districts that do not have local data systems to enter data may log into the Synergy State system directly and input data using any supported web browser. Student demographics, enrollment, health, assessment, CTE, and special education data will be submitted by SAUs through the securely hosted Synergy State solution, where query and reporting tools will allow the state to access, display, and analyze data in real time.

Under terms of the contract, SAUs have the option to license the Synergy Education Platform directly with the Department at pre-negotiated rates without needing to go through the bid process. The Synergy Education Platform unites distinct K-12 data management functions in one fully-integrated solution, creating system-wide data connections that help improve administrative processes and learning outcomes without the hassle or cost of third-party system integrations. Along with the industry's richest student information system feature set, Synergy includes comprehensive assessment, learning and curriculum management, analytics, online registration, role-based mobile applications, and tools to help ensure IEP compliance.

"Edupoint is pleased to provide Maine with a technologically advanced solution for their State Level Student Information and Reporting System," says Rob Wilson, Edupoint's President and Chief Innovation Officer. "It is an honor to partner with a state that values the importance of harnessing both student and instructional data to help transform the way schools and districts operate. We look forward to developing a longstanding relationship with the Maine Department of Education, and to welcoming districts throughout the state to the Synergy family."

The contract is currently awaiting final approval from the Bureau of Purchases. Maine SAUs are scheduled to begin reporting data to the state via the Synergy State solution in July 2017.

Partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, expected to net $88K savings annually for Ripley Union Lewis Huntington Local Schools

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- Ripley Union Lewis Huntington Local Schools has partnered with Energy Optimizers, USA, to improve the district's energy efficiency performance for an expected guaranteed savings of nearly $88,000 annually.

The $883,000 project includes energy savings enhancements at the elementary, middle and high school buildings. Upgrades to existing building automation systems and advanced energy management programming will be key components to the project. Numerous lighting upgrades to both the interior and exterior of each facility will significantly reduce the electrical load district-wide. Funding is provided through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make these cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers. The project is expected to begin soon and be completed in September 2016.

"We will replace outdated, inefficient systems with state-of-the-art energy efficient technology for a significant savings to our taxpayers," said Treasurer Jeff Rowley. "We will not need to request money from our community to fund this project, and the savings will pay back project costs in less than 10 years."

"Of even greater importance, our students will benefit from better lighting and an improved, more comfortable learning environment. We will also be able to reduce the amount of tax dollars that we spend on utility bills and related maintenance costs over the long term," added Superintendent Linda Naylor.

In total, Energy Optimizers, USA will:
* Replace interior and exterior lighting with LED lights
* Upgrade the district's building automation system with advanced energy conservation technology
* Implement building envelope sealing and weatherization
* Install energy-saving features in the kitchen
* Install a 1kW educational solar array at Ripley High School.

"This project is an investment in the community and the future," said Greg Smith, Energy Optimizers, USA, president and CEO. "The district is taking greater control over its budget in relation to utility and maintenance costs, and taxpayers benefit by knowing more dollars will go where they count-into the classroom."

This project has come to the attention of the Ohio Legislature.
"It is important that we do whatever we are able to in order to help preserve our state's natural resources," said State Senator Joe Uecker. "The partnership between Ripley Union Lewis Huntington Local Schools and Energy Optimizers, USA, is a great step in helping ensure that we are protecting these resources while giving back and improving the community for our future generations."

About Energy Optimizers, USA:
Energy Optimizers, USA works with educational, governmental, commercial and industrial customers to implement energy savings opportunities to reduce operational costs, including lighting retrofits, renewable energy projects (wind and solar), HVAC retrofit projects, building automation retrofits and energy education programs. New Webcast Network Invites Participation in Inspiring Events

BOSTON, Mass. -- A new Internet service co-created by Growthnet and students from Stanford, Cambridge, the Sorbonne and Tsinghua University, invites participants to witness and even join in "Transformative Moments," meaning peak events experienced by people as diverse as new mothers, scientific researchers, musicians, the deaf-blind, and famous authors.

Founders John Toomey, Amy Chang and Soni Gunawan say the idea is to hand-select from the vast number of happenings going on at any given time amongst the planet's 7.4 billion only those with the most potential to inspire the largest possible number of people.

Transformative Moments - http://Transformativemoments.net - seeks to capture peak experiences from users around the globe, so as to inspire people everywhere and build empathy for our common Humanity.

Examples include new mothers in India being handed their newborns for the first time, an event which the site will eventually display 40 times a day. Another channel includes microbiologists in Switzerland, Japan, and Chicago collaborating remotely using Mind Mapping software; viewers see their sketches and graphs scribbled down in real time using a Share Screen feature, and witness their vibrant discussions (and even arguing) as they compare and contrast hypotheses.

There is a strict formula for deciding which experiences can be accepted as transformative moments.

They must be happening right now, involve informed participants who are willing to appear on live webcam, include either a life-changing, growth-inducing, or thought-provoking event, and must invite interaction with members of a live remote web audience,

Another channel displays children from Mozambique who are both deaf and blind, and who are learning verbal skills and mathematics through a new type of tactile sign language using hand and finger touching. Site users can share the students' small epiphanies as they learn how abstract concepts, proper names, and even smells can be described with this innovative sensory language.

Other programs include musicians from various countries collaborating via TuneShare, so that they can both jam at once, overlay tracks in real time, and even inscribe musical scores at the same time.

Actors and dancers are seen in rehearsal, with remote website viewers able to not only critique their performances, but add suggestions. Online literary salons discuss new and old books.

One channel includes artisans from the developing world creating textiles, ceramics, clothing, and other native handicrafts, while they chat live with viewers on the site. In the planning stages are methods to allow site users to purchase the exact item they saw being created.

Wells Fargo Approves Hybrid eClosings on Pavaso’s Digital Close Platform

PLANO, Texas -- Pavaso, Inc. (Pavaso), a provider of digital process and collaboration solutions for the real estate lifecycle (http://www.pavaso.com), announced that Wells Fargo has named Pavaso an approved vendor for "hybrid" eClosings. In a hybrid eClosing, select documents are printed and "wet signed," but much of the closing package is executed electronically. Effective immediately, Wells Fargo will accept loans closed on Pavaso's Digital Close(SM) platform using this hybrid process.

"I'm excited for two very big reasons," said Mark McElroy, CEO and president of Pavaso. "First, Wells Fargo's approval of hybrid eClosings conducted on Digital Close is a major milestone for digital closings in the industry. Hybrid eClosings allow quite a few documents to be handled electronically, making the closing process simpler and more secure for everyone involved. Second, the involvement of such a major retail bank validates that the industry is ready to walk an evolutionary path toward digital transformation. As early trailblazers of this path, this only makes us want to work harder to help the industry get to the next level."

The Pavaso Digital Close platform facilitates electronic communication and collaboration between the real estate agent, lender, title/settlement agent and borrower. The platform makes the closing process easier for all parties by providing a single location for the digital delivery of all disclosures, educational materials and other loan documents. Through Digital Close, lenders can execute a seamless eClosing process that provides superior transparency and borrower education.

Digitial Close also provides built-in eSign and eNotarization capabilities that allow borrowers to sign and notaries to verify and stamp documents digitally. Although Wells Fargo guidelines still require a few documents to be "wet signed," the majority of the closing package can now be executed more efficiently and securely. Pavaso's Digital Close platform accommodates paper, hybrid and fully digital closings.

"This is a long-awaited achievement for Pavaso, Wells Fargo and many in the industry who have long anticipated using Digital Close as their closing platform," said Nancy Pratt, Pavaso's vice president of partner relations and government affairs. "We intend to take this momentum and make the most of it."

About Pavaso:
Pavaso is redefining real estate for the real world by connecting everyone in the real estate lifecycle through powerfully simple innovation. For more information on how Pavaso's platform and solutions can help you meet TILA-RESPA compliance, digitally transform your organization and dramatically enhance the consumer experience, call 866.288.7051 or visit http://www.pavaso.com/.

Weitz and Luxenberg, P.C. Offers Gratitude to Veterans for Assuring Our Nation’s Liberty

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. today extolled the virtue of all the women and men who have served our country so courageously and admirably over the years. Their efforts ensured our freedom and that of our children for decades to come. We are forever indebted to their commitment and steadfast fealty.

Memorial Day provides us with an ideal opportunity to honor and remember those who served so valiantly in war and lost their lives. While doing so, Weitz & Luxenberg, also seeks to celebrate the veterans who are living among us. We owe them our undying gratitude and abiding compassion.

"The men and women who return home after experiencing the incomprehensible realities of war are forever changed. Spiritually, emotionally and physically, the nation's veterans live with the reminders of the horrors they witnessed every day," Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. said.

"As a nation, we have a responsibility to recognize their struggles and offer whatever assistance we can to support our veterans in their day-to-day lives," Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. added.

Mesothelioma and the Aftermath of War:

The young men and women who so proudly offered to serve our country had no idea they would be facing more than just a known adversary. They might well have indomitably trained to prepare themselves for the physical and emotional challenges of war.

What they couldn't know or prepare themselves for was the silent but lethal substance they would be subjected to day in and day out for months or years at a time. That substance was asbestos, a known health hazard and carcinogen.

"Industry knew before World War II that inhaling asbestos particles was dangerous. The particles settle in your lungs and never leave," the law firm said.

"All U.S. governmental regulatory agencies involved with worker and environmental health, as well as worldwide health authorities, agree that there is no safe limit of exposure to asbestos."

"What is particularly tragic is that by the time someone experiences symptoms of asbestos-related diseases, such as mesothelioma or asbestosis, the disease is so advanced that the damage can never be undone," Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. said.

Veterans at Greater Risk for Developing Mesothelioma:

Of all the known cases of mesothelioma since 1999, U.S. military veterans have constituted 30 percent. If you look at the population as a whole, however, veterans represent only 8 percent of the U.S. population.

The veterans who are most at risk for developing mesothelioma are those who served between World War II and the late 1990s in the U.S. Navy or the U.S. Coastguard. These branches of the military, more than any other, were subjected to the widespread use of asbestos in engine rooms, galleys, boiler rooms, gun turrets and crew quarters of ships. This is due to the fact that asbestos has long been used in ship building and repair.

Because asbestos is naturally resistant to heat, fire and corrosion, and because asbestos is considered an economical mineral to mine, manufacturers have used this substance to their advantage.

"What is so abhorrent," the law firm said, "is that our military personnel should never have been exposed so recklessly. The companies that made and sold the products containing asbestos simply chose not to warn or protect workers from the hazards."

"It's absolutely reprehensible," Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. said. "If these companies had acted responsibly, our veterans would never have developed mesothelioma."

Weitz & Luxenberg Fully Supports Our Nation's Veterans:

"Our veterans honorably served our nation, and we need to support them," Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. said. "We are fully committed to working on behalf of our veterans and all other victims of mesothelioma to see that they receive the justice they deserve."

"Mesothelioma is devastating, not only to those who are afflicted with the disease, but also to their families and loved ones. We absolutely want to support our veterans in any way we can."

Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. can be reached at online at weitzlux.com or by phone at (800) 476-6070.

Enjoying Your Green Spaces Safely This Summer

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Enjoying the great outdoors is one of the many things summer offers, says Project EverGreen. Whether it is hiking or camping at a state or national park, going to your community park for a picnic or simply having fun in your own backyard, enjoying green spaces is a summer ritual.

While you are enjoying the feeling of lush grass between your toes or the aromatic smell of a flowering plant, you should be mindful of several threats that can loom in green spaces including mosquitoes, stinging insects, and fleas and ticks.

"When used as directed, insect control products and fertilizers work to keep your lawn and landscape healthy and strong," says Cindy Code, executive director of Project EverGreen. "A healthy yard can more effectively reduce quantities or populations of mosquitoes, ticks and stinging insects."

Mosquitoes:

There has been significant media coverage this spring regarding the Zika virus. While there have been no confirmed transmissions of the disease in the United States, it does bring to the forefront the threat of mosquito-borne diseases including West Nile virus, chikungunya and dengue fever.

How do you protect your and your family from mosquitoes this summer? Experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend the following tips to avoid mosquito bites:
* Use insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin or IR3535. Some oil of lemon eucalyptus and para-menthane-diol products provides long-lasting protection.
* If you use both sunscreen and insect repellent, apply the sunscreen first and then the repellent.
* Do not spray insect repellent on the skin under your clothing; treat clothing with permethrin or purchase permethrin-treated clothing.
* When weather permits, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
* Take extra care during peak mosquito biting hours and use repellent and protective clothing from dusk to dawn or consider avoiding outdoor activities during these times.
* Help reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home by emptying standing water from flowerpots, gutters, buckets, pool covers, pet water dishes, discarded tires, and birdbaths on a regular basis.
Stinging Insects:

While some stinging insects are beneficial to our environment, others pose a threat to people as they are enjoying the great outdoors. According to research from the National Pest Management Association, stinging insects send more than 500,000 people to the emergency room each year due to allergic reactions.

Stinging insects call a variety of locations in and around a structure home. They can live in trees, bushes, the ground, attics, crawlspaces, gutters, building overhangs, and decks.

* Remove food and water sources from your yard; trim bushes and trees where stinging insects like to nest.
* Inspect the exterior of your home or office, looking closely at the eaves, and seal cracks and crevices to keep stinging insects out.
* Properly seal all garbage cans - stinging insects are attracted to the sugars and residues in leftover food.
* Keep food covered when you are putting out your summer spread.
* When gardening, wear neutral earth tones, nothing bright or floral, and avoid wearing scented creams or perfume.
* At that backyard cookout, keep an eye on your drink. Stinging insects are attracted to sugary contents soft drinks and beer, and drinking a mouthful of bee or wasp is not pleasant.
If you come across a nest, proceed with caution and do not attempt to remove the nest yourself. Stinging insects are not to be taken lightly and can be very aggressive, the Africanized honey bee in particular, when disturbed. Call your local pest management professional to safely remove the nest.

Fleas & Ticks:

With the return of warm weather, everyone wants to spend more time outdoors-including household pets such as dogs and cats. Like people, pets are also at risk for the serious health complications that can arise from tick and flea bites.

Good landscape management practices by homeowners including clearing leaf litter, keeping grass cut or creating woodchip/stone barriers between lawns and adjacent woodlands that are inhabited by wildlife will be helpful in keeping ticks in check.

Fleas can become a problem and huge nuisance when humans or pets bring them inside the home since once inside, they can easily reproduce in bedding, carpets or furniture. Here are several tips to protect your pets and family from ticks and fleas this summer:

* Check pets frequently for ticks and fleas - be aware of excessive scratching and licking.
* Avoid walking dogs in tall grass, where fleas and ticks often hide.
* Bathe pets after walks or playtime with other animals.
* Frequently wash pet bedding, collars and plush toys.
* Wash bed linens and vacuum carpets, floors and furniture frequently.
* For on-animal prevention and treatment options, please consult with your veterinarian. We love cats and dogs, but we don't treat them.

About Project EverGreen:

Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, Project EverGreen (ProjectEverGreen.org) is a national non-profit organization committed to promoting the positive effects managed green spaces, including lawns and landscapes, athletic and recreational turf, and trees and parks have on the physical, mental and economic well-being of communities across the United States.
