A R T I C L E:

Backbone Security is pleased to announce availability of a new and improved version of their Steganography Analyzer Real-Time Scanner, StegAlyzerRTS, the world's only commercially available network security appliance for detecting digital steganography in real-time.

Digital steganography is an Internet era version of an information hiding technique dating back to the days of Ancient Greece. Using digital steganography, a file can be embedded within, or appended to, another file in such a way that it cannot be seen or heard. Unlike cryptography, which translates information into an unintelligible sequence of letters and numbers, steganography conceals the very existence of the information.

Insiders are increasingly becoming aware of the value of information they work with on a daily basis. Accordingly, insider theft of sensitive information is increasing at an alarming pace. Insiders can use any of the 1,500+ steganography applications available on the Internet as freeware or shareware to ex-filtrate personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI), or intellectual property, for example, outside the enterprise network. The current generation of network security appliances does not detect insider use of steganography.

StegAlyzerRTS version 3.3, developed in Backbone's Steganography Analysis and Research Center (SARC), is a network security sensor that detects insiders downloading any of the 1,050 digital steganography applications currently in the SARC's library of steganography applications.

Detecting insiders downloading a steganography application is an early warning indicator there is a high probability the insider is planning to use the steganography application to steal sensitive information.

Using the analytical approach to detecting steganography developed in the SARC, StegAlyzerRTS can also detect insider use of a subset of the 1,050 applications through a unique signature-based detection model.

Version 3.3 features numerous changes designed to increase the performance, stability, and reliability of the appliance when monitoring very high throughput networks. Most importantly, this version features improved archive/compressed file processing performance that significantly improves the capability to rapidly analyze HTTP traffic.

"Incidents of intellectual property and trade secret theft involving insiders continue to occur at an alarming rate," said Bart G. Guerreri, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Backbone Security. "Insider use steganography to steal this highly sensitive information is an emerging threat that can be countered with our state-of-the-art real-time steganography detection appliance."

The next version of StegAlyzerRTS will provide a capability to manage multiple geographically dispersed sensors from one location. This feature will be of particular interest to enterprises with multiple data centers located anywhere in the world.

StegAlyzerRTS is available for both 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps networks. For more information please visit http://www.sarc-wv.com or send email to sarc@backbonesecurity.com.

A R T I C L E:

Backbone Security is pleased to announce the release of the latest version of their Steganography Application Fingerprint Database (SAFDB) which now contains 1,050 steganography applications.

Developed in Backbone's Steganography Analysis and Research Center (SARC), SAFDB is the world's largest commercially available hash set exclusive to digital steganography applications.

The database is widely used by U.S. and international government and law enforcement agencies, the intelligence community, and private sector digital forensic examiners and network security professionals to detect digital steganography applications on seized digital media and within inbound and outbound network traffic streams.

Backbone Security Announces Enhanced Steganography Detection Tool

Author: Backbone Security
Dateline: Fairmont, West Virginia (FAIRMONT, W.Va.)  | Wed, 08 Feb 2012

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Backbone Security, the market leader in advanced digital steganography detection and hidden information extraction tools, is pleased to announce availability of the newest version of Steganography Analyzer Artifact Scanner, StegAlyzerAS, their industry leading application for detecting 1,025 digital steganography applications.”

A R T I C L E:

Backbone Security, the market leader in advanced digital steganography detection and hidden information extraction tools, is pleased to announce availability of the newest version of Steganography Analyzer Artifact Scanner, StegAlyzerAS, their industry leading application for detecting 1,025 digital steganography applications.

A unique feature of StegAlyzerAS is the capability to process the Windows registry to detect keys and values associated with steganography applications. A steganography application can be uninstalled and the files and folders associated with the application can be deleted; however, there may keys or values in the registry that would indicate the associated steganography application had been installed on the computer at one time.

StegAlyzerAS v3.8 features enhanced Windows registry scanning capability that substantially decreased the time required to scan an offline Windows registry.

Bart Guerreri, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Backbone Security, said "We are sensitive to the time it takes forensics examiners to process the ever growing amount of digital storage media. Accordingly, we are very pleased to offer a new version of StegAlyzerAS that features a significant reduction in the time required to scan a Windows-based computer."

StegAlyzerAS is a member of the StegAlyzer family of products developed in Backbone's Steganography Analysis and Research Center (SARC). Other products in the StegAlyzer family include the Steganography Analyzer Signature Scanner (StegAlyzerSS) and Steganography Analyzer Real-Time Scanner (StegAlyzerRTS).

StegAlyzerSS detects more signatures of steganography applications than any other commercially available product and provides a unique "point-click-and-extract" interface to extract hidden information.

StegAlyzerRTS is the world's only commercially available network security appliance capable of detecting steganography in real time in the inbound and outbound network traffic stream.

For additional information about digital steganography and the StegAlyzer family of products, please visit www.sarc-wv.com or send email to sarc@backbonesecurity.com.

About the SARC:

The SARC was established to create and maintain a national repository of digital steganography applications, fingerprints, and signatures that can be used during forensic examination of seized digital storage media or when monitoring network traffic for malicious insider behavior.
