Move For Hunger and Moving Ahead Services Announce Collaborative Effort to Fight Hunger Nationwide

RED BANK, N.J. -- Moving Ahead Services, an independent mover that has 6 locations nationwide, and Move For Hunger, a national hunger relief non-profit organization, announced today a partnership that will help provide much-needed assistance to food banks across the United States.

As a partner, Moving Ahead Services will support Move For Hunger's food rescue and hunger relief programs. To date, Move For Hunger's network of relocation professionals and multi-family properties has collected and delivered more than 21 million pounds of food - providing over 17 million meals - to food banks and pantries across the United States and Canada.

"As a result of the pandemic, more than 54 million Americans are unsure of where or when they will find their next meal, yet an estimated 40% of all food grown, processed, and transported in the United States is wasted," explains Adam Lowy, Executive Director and Founder of Move For Hunger. "Moving Ahead Services understands the need is more critical than ever and is committed to helping us provide meals to those struggling to put food on the table."

Move For Hunger and Moving Ahead Services have been partners since 2014. Together, their offices have collected 84,819 pounds, enough to feed 70,682 people. In 2019, Moving Ahead Services organized and picked up leftover food from the Cleveland marathon, where they transported 5,355 pounds of food, providing 4,462 meals to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.

"Partnering with Move For Hunger hits on two fundamental core values at Moving Ahead Services: Giving back to our community, and providing a service that is unrivaled. We are thrilled to continue our partnership and excited to see what we can accomplish together in 2021," says President of Moving Ahead Services, Jeff Collins.

Through the support of partners like Moving Ahead Services, Move For Hunger can continue to feed and empower more to fight for the families, children, seniors, and vulnerable communities who are most in need of food assistance.

The Sacramento SPCA Races to Complete The Zoe K. McCrea Animal Health Center

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento SPCA announced today that they have reached more than 90% of their fundraising goal to finish construction of the Zoe K. McCrea Animal Health Center - and the non-profit organization is asking for community support to help cross the finish line.

Completion of the new 6,400 square foot animal hospital will increase the Sacramento SPCA's spay/neuter surgery capacity by 38% (to 23,000 annual surgeries), expand their low-cost vaccine and wellness clinics and help provide more animals entering the shelter with life-saving medical care.

The Zoe K. McCrea Animal Health Center was designed to help animals like Estelle.

When this four-week-old puppy and her littermates arrived at the Sacramento SPCA, they tested positive for Parvo, a highly contagious and often fatal disease. The shelter's medical team quickly began treatments and after making a full recovery, Estelle was placed in a loving foster home.

But Estelle's battle wasn't over, yet. After a few weeks in foster care, her family noticed that she was having trouble swallowing, and X-rays revealed an abnormal vascular ring around her esophagus, restricting her ability to consume solid food.

"One out of every five animals that enter the Sacramento SPCA needs specialized care before they can be placed up for adoption," said Sacramento SPCA CEO, Kenn Altine. "Completing the Zoe K. McCrea Animal Health Center will allow us to say yes to more animals like Estelle, who require life-saving care."

With her surgery scheduled in February, Estelle's future looks bright. Finishing the Sacramento SPCA's state-of-the-art medical facility will ensure a hopeful future for all animals and support the emerging needs of the community in 2021 and beyond by:

* preventing animals from entering all of the region's shelters

* getting animals who enter the shelter into homes faster

* providing early detection and treatment of high-cost illnesses that force many families to surrender their animal

Thanks to a generous lead gift by local business leader and animal lover Zoe K. McCrea, as well as the generosity of individuals and community partners throughout the Sacramento region, more than 90% of the funds needed to complete the project have been raised.

The shelter is seeking the community's support to help finish the life-saving project.

As the only full-service 100% non-profit animal shelter in the Sacramento region, the Sacramento SPCA relies on donations from individuals, businesses and foundations to support their work. They are local, independent, and do not receive funding from state or local government agencies.

Donations to complete the Zoe K. McCrea Animal Health Center can be made online or by mail to: Sacramento SPCA, 6201 Florin Perkins Road, Sacramento, CA 95828. Learn more: https://www.classy.org/campaign/zoe-k-mccrea-animal-health-center/c293556

Phenomenology Helps Academy for the Fine Arts Find Funds for Dance Studio

FREDERICK, Md. -- Phenomenology, Inc., an innovative production model in the performing arts, stepped up to assist the Academy for the Fine Arts to raise ten thousand dollars in critical funds to finance a state-of-the-art dance studio for Frederick County Public School students.

AFA brings together approximately 100 students across 10 public high schools who are interested in learning visual art, dance, music, and theatre. Even though AFA serves students from all 10 FCPS high schools, it does not receive any direct funding and must rely on allotments from the general budget provided by Governor Thomas Johnson High School, where AFA is located.

"As a corridor for the performing arts, a core component of our mission is to provide high value resources and opportunities for professional, amateur and student artists in Frederick, Maryland," said Artistic Director and CEO of Phenomenology, Jeffery Keilholtz. "As soon as this need was brought to our attention, our team connected AFA to important partners that could help."

Keilholtz worked with AFA Coordinator, Jonathan Kurtz, to position the non-profit organization as fiscal sponsor for AFA, to attract grant funding. As a result, AFA secured financing through a generous grant from Delaplaine Foundation, Inc.

"We cannot thank our community partners enough for getting involved and recognizing our need. We have been waiting five years to create an adequate studio space for our dancers and we are excited to finally make that happen. These funds will allow our program to expand and add new areas of focus, with the goal of reaching more FCPS students to help them prepare for their post-secondary experience."

Funds will be used to install a sprung dance floor in a new studio space. To date, dance students share the TJ High School auditorium stage for rehearsal with theatre students. A new studio will allow dancers and actors to have adequate and separatee rehearsal spaces to meets the needs of each program.

8th Annual Cursive is Cool Contest Adds Additional Prizes for Pandemic-Friendly Participation in Both the US and Canada

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Cursive is Cool® contest will be held as usual this year after encouragement from teachers, parents and students, announced the American Handwriting Analysis Foundation today, despite some schools in the USA and Canada operating remotely, or using a hybrid model with in-person learning.

Modifications this year allow more students to participate who might not have teacher support as in the past.

Students are encouraged to enter early. Random drawings of entries received throughout the contest will be eligible for prizes. Winners of random drawings are eligible for the Grand Prize. Those winners' handwriting will be reviewed for legibility and neatness. One Grand Prize per grade 1 through 6 will be awarded.

"Every year our judges look forward to reading entries because kids' points of view are not only entertaining but also often enlightening," remarked Lauren Mooney Bear, Campaign for Cursive Chair.

The annual cursive contest has many supporters. In Canada they include Laywine's and Zebra Pen (Canada). A new supporter this year is Blind Pig Press. For the USA contest, supporters continue to grow, with Amsterdam Printing, Cursive Logic, Dixon Ticonderoga, Fahrney's Pens, Itoya, Louise Borden Author, Monkey Magnets, New American Cursive, PEN World, Sakura and Writing Academy. New this year are Caran D'ache and Colombia City Ninja School.

According to Sheila Lowe, President of the American Handwriting Analysis Foundation, "The good news from an informal survey indicates that more than half the states require at least some cursive writing training in public schools. Legislation is spending in six more. Only ten states have zero requirement to teach their students to write."

USA and French Canadian contest dates are January 23 through April 30, 2021.

English Canadian contest runs from January 23 through March 12, 2021.

Move For Hunger and FINCOR Construction Partner Up In The Fight Against Hunger Nationwide

LAUREL, Md. -- FINCOR Construction, a multi-family renovator operating along the east coast, and Move For Hunger, a national relief non-profit organization, have announced a new partnership that will fight hunger and reduce food waste nationwide. Recent reports say that nearly 8 million Americans have fallen into poverty since the summer. It's the fastest rise since tracking began 60 years ago, and food banks across the country are expecting a 60% increase in demand.

Move For Hunger was founded in 2009 by Adam Lowy, the son of a third-generation mover, when he noticed that people throw away a lot of perfectly good food when they move. Starting with his own family's moving company and building from there, Move For Hunger now has a network of over 1,000 moving companies, many of the world's leading relocation management companies, and more than 1,500 multi-family apartment communities, all helping to fight to end hunger by collecting food items and delivering them to local food banks in all 50 states and Canada.

To date, Move For Hunger's network has collected and delivered more than 20 million pounds of food - providing 17 million meals.

The partnership will enable FINCOR to support Move For Hunger's food rescue programs and encourage the multi-family industry clients they work with to integrate the Move For Hunger model into their standard operating processes for customers who are moving. It will also provide the opportunity to continue to expand the Move For Hunger network: a robust community of engaged individuals that want to make a difference in the lives of others and have the transportation resources available to create large-scale change.

The partnership with FINCOR along with their recent fundraiser will also help provide nearly 27,000 meals to those in need.

"FINCOR has been an amazing partner in the fight against hunger," said Adam Lowy, Executive Director and Founder of Move For Hunger. "FINCOR recognizes that the hunger crisis continues to affect this country at staggering rates. We're grateful for their continued support in helping us provide meals to those in need."

"There are people that need help now more than ever. People are facing issues through no fault of their own, and we have the opportunity and ability to help," said Michael C. Finn, President of FINCOR. "We felt Move for Hunger was the best fit for us to do the most good as we specialize in renovating apartments where residents have to clean out their kitchens before we start. We thought it would be a great addition to the community where residents can donate non-perishables while cleaning out their living spaces."

Through the support of partners like FINCOR Construction, Move For Hunger can continue to make a difference at a time when it's needed the most.

The Pap Corps Appoints Sally Berenzweig as Chief Executive Officer

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -- The Pap Corps' Board of Directors is proud to announce that Sally Berenzweig, M.A., M.Ed, has been appointed the new CEO of the 68-year old South Florida nonprofit which raises funds for cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Berenzweig, the co-founder and former CEO of KidSafe Foundation, will use her 14 years of nonprofit expertise to expand The Pap Corps' fundraising base, develop new partnerships, increase membership, raise awareness through social media campaigns and explore grant opportunities.

To learn more about The Pap Corps, please visit: https://www.thepapcorps.org/.

"We are very proud that Sally has joined our organization," said Susan Dinter, Chair of the Board of Directors. "The Board is confident that her extensive experience in the nonprofit realm and her passion for our mission will guide The Pap Corps to the next exciting stage in its evolution."

With nearly 22,000 members in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, The Pap Corps has donated more than $110 million to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, including a historic $50 million pledge in 2016 dedicating The Pap Corps Campus at Sylvester at Deerfield Beach. The Pap Corps' donations support ground-breaking cancer research at South Florida's only NCI-Designated cancer center.

"The Pap Corps is an organization that I have a very strong connection with," said Berenzweig. "My late stepmother (bonus Mom), Bobbi Friedman, was the founder of the Woodfield Country Club chapter and helped raise funds to bring Sylvester to Deerfield Beach. My father Aaron Friedman honors Bobbi's memory annually when he donates to the Woodfield Chapter largest fundraiser the 'Bobbi Friedman Memorial Card Party.' And my mother-in-law, Sandy Berenzweig, is an active member of the Boca Pointe chapter. Through my family, I have witnessed the dedication and commitment Pap Corps members have for this cause, and it's beyond inspiring. And like so many, I have experienced the heartbreaking loss of too many people I love to cancer. The loss of family and friends fuels my determination to find a cure. For me, the Pap Corp Champions for Cancer Research mission was tailor-made for my skill-set and passion as I launch the next phase of my career."

Berenzweig is a very familiar face in the philanthropic world as she was the co-founder and former CEO of KidSafe Foundation and was recognized for her outstanding leadership as a 2019 L'Oreal Paris Women of Worth Honoree. Sally also received the distinguished Jefferson Award for Public Service. After 14 years with the organization, Berenzweig was ready for change and a new challenge. She handed the baton to her successor and began exploring opportunities in the consulting realm until she connected with The Pap Corps leadership, who recruited her to fill the position that has been vacant for several months.

In addition to her stellar nonprofit background, Berenzweig is a former Psychotherapist who has a Masters in Education and a Masters in Counseling Psychology. Sally is the co-author of a parenting book, two award-winning children's books, eLearn trainings and an 8-lesson curriculum for children that has been taught in Palm Beach and Broward County School Districts for over 10 years. Sally is also a member of the Soroptimist International.

The Pap Corps, a grassroots organization, derives its name from Dr. George Papanicolaou, a pioneer in cytopathology and early cancer detection, who introduced the world to the revolutionary 'Pap' test. Childhood Trauma – The Dark Secret 64% of Us Share: Compassion Prison Project with Dr. Vincent Felitti

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Two years ago this month, film producer Fritzi Horstman, and Compassion Prison Project founder, walked into a California maximum-security prison and sat down with the men who were serving time, hoping to bring them compassion and trauma-awareness. One of the first things she said was, "I was traumatized when I was a child - my mother emotionally and physically abused me. I was neglected and my father was an alcoholic."

Ultimately, she was entrusted with the many stories these men shared, stories of unimaginable childhood abuse and neglect. Statistically the men and women living, and working, within our prison system are amongst the most traumatized members of our society. Prisons, often places of dehumanization, solitude and hopelessness, traumatize them even more.

Two years later, Compassion Prison Project, founded by Horstman, is marking its anniversary by announcing the launch of its unprecedented new podcast, "Compassion in Action."

Compassion in Action gives listeners the unique opportunity to join Horstman and trauma experts as they shed light on ACEs: Adverse Childhood Experiences. ACEs can include childhood physical violence, sexual abuse, emotional neglect, poverty or having a family member in prison. Compassion in Action examines ACEs as they pertain to society as a whole. Topics include the impact of childhood trauma on our overall health, the root cause of addiction and the significant burden of shame. Perhaps most importantly, Compassion in Action guests share insight into healing modalities which promote self-awareness and a willingness to address our collective trauma.

Building on the momentum of the new podcast launch, special guest Dr. Vincent Felitti, MD, co-creator of the original ACE Kaiser Permanente CDC study, joins Fritzi in a new Compassion in Action episode. Dr. Felitti details the crucial importance of the ACEs study, its ramifications for the public and the vital importance of supporting healthy parenting. A graduate of John Hopkins Medical School and Founder of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Kaiser Permanente San Diego, Dr. Felitti's understanding of childhood trauma was gained over years spent analyzing data from thousands of patients.

Horstman commented, upon reaching the organization's two-year anniversary "I am thrilled to share this interview with Dr. Vincent Felitti who is the Co-Author of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Quiz - the most important health survey which has changed the lives of so many."

She adds, "Our work at Compassion Prison Project has just begun. We are on track to create trauma-informed prisons throughout the United States and spread our Trauma-Awareness Campaign to all men and women living in their own prisons - inside and outside."

The C Diff Foundation Assures Patients C. diff. Clinical Trials Continue to Move Forward Safely

TAMPA, Fla. -- While some patients diagnosed with Clostridioides difficile (C. diff., C. difficile, CDI) believe they have run into clinical trial roadblocks, due to the recent focus on the pandemic, the C Diff Foundation wants them to know they are not out of options. Safe and active clinical trials continue.

Most Clinical trial sites have implemented protocols to disinfect, clean and maintain environmental safety for all visitors. Telehealth is also being utilized between healthcare professionals and patients who choose to participate in clinical trials.

C. diff. continues to be a leading cause of infectious disease deaths and in the U.S., nearly half a million Americans suffer from it, according to the CDC. It's important for patients to know that research is still happening to combat this infectious disease.

Even during these unprecedented times, clinical trials continue to press onward to resolve CDI's.
