Brand Strategist and Keynote Speaker asks Business Owners and Entrepreneurs to Focus on Engagement and Authenticity

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- Brand Strategist and speaker Loren Weisman is asking people that when they answer what they did on their summer vacation as far as marketing and promoting is concerned to answer with being authentic, true and humble.

Loren Weisman is asking people this summer to step away from the hype, the sell, the pressure and the overly dominant push of marketing online and off. He wants people to change their messages, tone and delivery to a more engaging, inviting and connecting approach.

"From videos to quotes, blogs to audios and everything in between, the shift is heading to authenticity," Weisman says. "People are getting exhausted from the hype. People are getting tired of being sold to and people are getting sick of told how they will feel, what they need and exact what they should have."

This is also true in the social media algorithms that are changing to reflect this as well. The click here, buy now, must have sales pitches are being flagged and even penalized on certain sites as the shift of social media is beginning a shift to actually being that much more social again.

"Taking the focus away from the hype of screaming that you are a best-selling author with the same ad over and over again is oversaturating and annoying to a great many. Shifting the message to sharing about the different parts of the book, the author and the writing process over a series of different posts and ads can connect people with a greater audience."

Shifting the focus to engagement and altering the forced sell to an inviting share will allow you to make that any more friends, connections and conversions on your summer vacation. Changing your message to reflect the truth of you can bring you truer connections.

As we look to educating, building and protecting our brand with validity, humility and authenticity, it allows for better profits, results and long term connections.

Capitol Fence Presents a Residential Fence Buying Guide and Tip Sheet

AUSTIN, Texas -- The type of fence that residential homeowners decide to use will not only play an essential role in the house's exterior design, but also provides one of the most basic human needs - protection. It is the need for security and privacy that drives most homeowners to buy a place of their own. As such, a fence that has been expertly constructed and installed gives a true sense of security in the home. But, which one to choose? Capitol Fence and Deck of Austin, Texas shares their tips for homeowners to buy the right fence between wrought iron, chain link, or wood.

How to Choose the Right Fence

Homeowners have a variety of fencing options that they could choose from and must consider a lot of things before selecting one. The first thing to consider is the use and main goal of the fence.

If the main goal is to simply keep pets and kids contained in the yard, this could require different fencing options as compared to the goal of increasing the property's value.

A busy and budget-oriented homeowner should also consider the costs of installation and maintenance. There may also be Homeowner's Association neighborhood restrictions that need to be considered. Capitol Fence specializes as an Austin residential fencing company experienced with helping homeowners with these considerations.

Consider These Fence Buying Tips for Residential Homes

1. Function

Function is the purpose for the fence and what it is intended for that will determine, the height, form, and other essential features of the fence. These intentions can be narrowed down to four basic categories. They include:

Privacy Fence

A privacy fence is intended to keep the neighbor's eyes from seeing what the homeowner is doing in the yard and home. It is available in different options, including pickets, tightly spaced boards, or framed panels that will prevent anyone from seeing the yard or home. These types of fences are typically over 6 feet tall to prevent most people from seeing over them.

Security Fence

If the homeowner's goal is to keep burglars out, this fence is a good choice. It is over 6ft tall and has pickets with spiky tops that will deter anyone from climbing over. Additionally, the outer face is smooth which ensures a climber will not have a foothold.

Decorative Fence

If the desire is to boost curb appeal, add a structural feature to the landscape, or just to establish property lines, this is the appropriate fencing option. Because it does not need to be obtrusive, just select one that is between two and four feet tall with spaced pickets and ornamental designs.

Safety Fence

If the goal is to enclose an area without having to change the view, then this option is to go with. The chain link fence is the most common type. It consists of durable galvanized metal mesh.

2. Maintenance

Once a homeowner understands the purpose of your fence, the next step is to decide what materials to use. Consider asking Capitol Fence, our Austin residential fence installation company for advice.

The most common materials utilized in fence construction include:

Wood

This is the most popular fencing option in the country due to the aesthetic appeal it adds to the home. Additionally, it is not that costly even though the price you pay is relative to the size and height of the fence. Wood fences can also last for 10 years to up to a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.

Bamboo

Bamboo fencing is becoming increasingly popular as a fencing option in the United States due to its exotic look. Additionally, it grows fast, making it an environmentally friendly fencing option.

Wrought Iron

The wrought-iron fence has been classically used for both security and decorative purposes. Even though wrought iron fences are beautiful and strong, they do require regular maintenance. The fence may need to be repainted every two or three years. Since they are typically custom-made, wrought iron fences are available in a wide variety of designs.

Chain Link & Wire

Even though this fencing option does not enhance the home's privacy, it does perform the functions it was meant for very well. These are good for homeowners that just need to keep pets of family members inside the yard. They are affordable to install while being durable and requiring very little maintenance.

Austin residential fencing using chain link can be supplemented using flowers, shrubbery, or vines on the outer side of the fence. Not only will this enhance the security of the home, but will also add to the homeowner's privacy. A little bit of creativity is all it takes to obstruct prying eyes.

‘WHOOPING COUGH UPTICK’ is Medical Fake News, Medical Scam, says Dr. Don Harte

CORTE MADERA, Calif. -- Dr. Don Harte, noted chiropractic activist and former Libertarian State Senate candidate, is disgusted but not surprised by the latest "medical scam/fake news." "This alleged 'uptick' in whooping cough cases," according to Dr. Harte, "is just its natural cycle, as it makes its appearance in many places in this country now."

Dr. Harte says: "This is fake news, a con job, crassly designed to sell more vaccines and more pediatrician visits. This 'uptick' is normal."

Dr. Harte was interviewed by Channel 7 ABC-TV news in San Francisco on June 19, stating, "This is medical failure. They're now asking to do more of something that doesn't work." Given more opportunity, he would have added "There are numerous instances, across the country, of not just pertussis but many other infectious diseases arising in fully immunized populations. Real-life proof that, often, vaccination doesn't work."

View the interview online at: https://abc7ne.ws/2yHfX91

"Why," Dr. Harte asks, "Does no one care when a vaccine or any other medical procedure clearly doesn't work? This is cult mentality on a society-wide scale."

"Dr. Harte observed, "Once I saw the whole news segment, the intent was obvious. The medical industry, its godfather, Big Pharma, and its henchmen, government 'health' agencies, are out to recommend and eventually mandate whooping cough vaccinations to older children, pregnant women and 'anyone around babies.' When these types of medical propaganda/news pieces appear, they are often followed by new vaccine mandates and/or new, far more authoritarian vaccine laws."

"This is not science. This is not public service," declares Dr. Harte. "This is nothing but crass marketing, of the lowest order. Lowest," he says, "because the medical industry, bathing in its position of trust and adoration by society, is creating a false sense of danger, while pushing a vaccine that is questionable in its effectiveness, and is certain in its danger."

"Danger?" asks Dr. Harte. The DTaP vaccine, which is for diphtheria and tetanus as well as pertussis or whooping cough, like other vaccines, is loaded with neuro and immunotoxins, and other substances bad for all of us, especially children. "On top of that," he adds, "the process of vaccination short-circuits normal immune processes. This is why, while the number and frequency of vaccinations have gone way up, the health of children has gone way down. Previously unknown to rare, very serious conditions such as autism, learning disabilities, life-threatening allergies, Type I diabetes and Crohn's Disease are now common amongst children."

Dr. Harte advises: "Forget this and other medical con jobs. Certainly, forget the fake, overly small sample, overly short time period research studies that boldly lie about the safety and efficacy of this and other vaccines. We cannot poison children into health. What can we do as parents? Feed them well, love them, and make sure that their nervous systems are free of interference by regular wellness visits to the chiropractor."

Dr. Harte finally warns, "The pediatrician is not the friend of children's health. Okay, they have their place in an emergency. Otherwise, they do not promote children's health. Societal acceptance is neither proof of actual science nor of clinical efficacy. Pediatricians do much to prevent health, and often do such that actually causes damage and disease, even death."

He is an activist in the struggle for free speech for chiropractors. Dr. Harte was named 2006 "Chiropractor of the Year" by the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA). California Moves to Kill Free Speech and Health, says Wellness Activist Dr. Harte

CORTE MADERA, Calif. -- Dr. Don Harte, noted chiropractic activist and former Libertarian State Senate candidate, is issuing a dire warning against SB 1424, designed to create a medical thought police in California.

"This bill, first and foremost, is a direct assault upon the 1st amendment," according to Dr. Harte. "This proposed bill sets up 'fact-checkers' to determine if and when any information disseminated on the internet is, in fact, fact."

Dr. Harte goes on: "The bill is proposed by State Sen. Dr. Richard Pan, vaccine extremist. Sen. Pan has already, successfully, interfered with parental rights and informed consent by his previously passed bills, AB 2109 and SB 277. These bills have essentially destroyed any rights of parents to choose not to vaccinate, or fully vaccinate, their children. But he wants more."

"It is known that Dr. Pan is a tool of Big Pharma, and has financially benefitted from such. As anti-vaccination forces in this state have not given up the fight," according to Dr. Harte, "it is obvious that this anti-free speech bill is designed to quash any discussion of the dangers of vaccination, and any information related to vaccination."

Dr. Harte adds, "Dr. Pan revels in the increased vaccinations rates due to his previous bills, but he says nothing about the widespread, growing damage of serial vaccination to the children of California, including autism, Type I diabetes, Crohn's Disease, life-threatening allergies, asthma, etc. It is painfully obvious that he is working towards quashing any present and future dissent towards his evil totalitarian agenda."

Dr. Harte goes on: "News Flash: The State of California is part of the USA, and, as such, is subject to the U.S. Constitution. The 1st Amendment, guaranteeing freedom of speech, cannot be abrogated by these petty tyrants in Sacramento, who act as shills for Big Pharma."

"Furthermore," says Dr. Harte, "there is, currently, a tremendous misunderstanding of what science is. There cannot be science without questioning. There are those, including Dr. Pan, who believe that Medicine should never be questioned. These medical extremists claim that their position is for the good of society. So said Hitler and Stalin. Both of those evil men had scientists actively creating false science. They both had medical doctors assisting them, acting out their sick falsehoods, damaging and killing hundreds of thousands."

"Let me present myself as California's first 'speech criminal,'" Dr. Harte declares. "This liberty-deficient government of the state of California is in no moral, scientific or legal position to dictate what is fact and what is not."

RMA’s Kim Briesemeister on How City Leaders Must Plan for Smart Growth Trends

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- Kim Briesemeister, co-founder of RMA, recently spoke at the Smart Growth Partnership event in Fort Lauderdale addressing the best ways for city leaders to stay ahead of the trends that are affecting the global economy. The redevelopment expert and author of "Reinventing Your City" stressed the importance of concentrating on the changing retail environment and the growth of smart cities.

"In a recent review of 100 mayors' state of the city addresses, economic development was the number one topic in 75 percent of the speeches nationwide," said Briesemeister. "But to achieve success, city leaders must make strategic changes now to keep pace with what the business community is doing."

As an example, during her speech, Briesemeister noted that city leaders must assess their current zoning to plan for the shifting retail environment.

"With our city-county clients, we are advising them not to look at real estate assets as they exist now, but to look at them as they may be in the future," explained Briesemeister. "One example is in the food and grocery industry where the rapid advancement of online ordering and delivery will change the footprint of stores nationwide, creating potentially smaller front-of-house retail spaces and larger expanses for storage."

Briesemeister also noted that the rapidly increasing percentage of people who purchase groceries online will necessitate centralized urban distribution centers, as rural centers will be unable to meet timely delivery demands. However, current zoning does not typically allow for distribution centers in downtowns, and therefore may need to be adjusted. Another adjustment will be modifications in drop off, pick up and delivery zones near urban stores which will be impacted by cars becoming autonomous.

"Changes in zoning laws will be required to meet the shift in how we buy goods," said Briesemeister.

An additional development that city leaders also need to be ready for is the advent of smart buildings. In the Netherlands, a new concept was introduced that far surpassed the basic LEED certified conditions. In one case, a building was outfitted with 32,000 sensors that constantly monitor everything, including which rooms are the dirtiest so cleaning crews know where to concentrate their time.

"These smart buildings will increase efficiency at many levels, and city leaders need to be aware of that impact," explained Briesemeister. "From changes in permitting laws to timing the flow of Uber pickups and coordinating traffic controls, technology is going to have an even greater effect on our daily lives. These advances will be implemented by the business community quickly, so futuristic city planning must be happening now."

For Briesemeister and the team of experts at RMA, working with city leaders to stay ahead of the trends is critical to a successful economic development plan.

"Reinventing a city is a constant process," explained Briesemeister. "Cities that stay atop of the trends, and become economic development role models, generally have leaders that understand the importance of being progressive and on the cutting edge of society."

Gun Control, or Doctor Control? asks Dr. Harte

CORTE MADERA, Calif. -- Dr. Don Harte, noted chiropractic activist and former Libertarian State Senate candidate, says of the school shooting in Broward County, Florida, "It's time to take radical action... Doctor Control."

Dr. Harte says "Remember that horrible mass shooting in Las Vegas? It just came out that that killer was on SSRI's, anti-depressants. Just about every one of our mass shootings, especially in schools, were perpetrated by some kid on SSRI's. Check it out yourself."

Dr. Harte asks, "In public policy as in health care, doesn't it make sense to get to the cause of a problem, and eliminate that cause? Look up the side effects of these so-called anti-depressants. They include suicidal and homicidal ideation. Many under the influence of these legally-prescribed drugs, with no prior history of violence, have become suddenly violent."

"I remind you," states Dr. Harte, "that the Virginia Tech incident began with multiple stabbings. That lunatic who shot up the theatre in Colorado had his own apartment house rigged with explosives. And there have been attacks with trucks. People intent on doing evil will find a way, with or without guns."

Dr. Harte is sure that "the medical and pharmaceutical industries will reply that people who are depressed or anxious absolutely need these meds. Patients on these drugs will say 'What else can we do?'"

Two alternative solutions are offered by Dr. Harte, "Old-fashioned talk therapy has a place. But even more to the point is that depression, anxiety, etc. take place in the mind, in the brain, part of the nervous system. Chiropractic adjustments correct interference to the nervous system, allowing the brain to function better. I don't treat mental illness, but I've had many patients be able to get off of their SSRI's."

Dr. Harte continues, "The real public health, public safety menace is doctors who prescribe these dangerous medications, and the pharmaceutical corporations who push them. These doctors, and these pharmaceutical companies, put us all at risk. Yes, it is time to take radical action... Doctor Control!"

Philadelphia Commercial Capital Advisory CEO Discusses the Current State of the Commercial and Multifamily Finance Market

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Rittenhouse Capital Advisors (RCA) is a commercial real estate finance advisor with over 60 years of combined banking experience. Currently in its fourth year of operation, Rittenhouse Capital has increased its loan production volume by a minimum of 30 percent year over year by delivering creative commercial financing solutions for their real estate investor clients.

Rittenhouse Capital CEO George Johnson believes that market conditions may be about to change and that now is the best time to take advantage of historically low interest rates.

"We are late in the game here," Johnson says. "Interest rates are still very favorable to borrowers, but we don't know how much longer that will last. The Fed is unwinding their quantitative easing, which will most definitely create upward pressure on treasury rates given the shift in that supply-demand fundamental. GDP growth was a very healthy 3.3 percent in the 3rd quarter, the fastest rate in 3 years, so inflationary pressure will start to build there as well.

"The new Tax Reform package will likely bring some economic stimulus with further inflationary pressure, so there is a lot of factors in play, all pointing to higher interest rates in the near term. When that happens, lenders may take a more conservative approach to underwriting, making it more difficult to obtain the level of loan proceeds real estate investors are looking for."

Many commercial and multifamily property owners would like to capitalize on today's low interest rates, but they have existing loans that do not mature for a while, and they do not want to pay a significant pre-payment penalty to get out of these loans.

"A lot of commercial borrowers are not aware of some of the financing options that are available out there," Johnson continues. "For example, we have a great balance sheet product where a borrower can lock in their interest rate today for a period of up to 12 months while they burn-off any remaining prepayment penalty. This approach saves our clients a substantial amount of money as they avoid paying their prepayment penalty while also taking interest rate risk off the table."

E-commerce Driving a Shift in Demand toward Multi-Unit Industrial Properties:

Another factor that is currently impacting the commercial lending market is E-commerce. Companies like Amazon and Wayfair are driving demand for warehousing space. And with thousands of other companies getting in on the Ecommerce craze, multi-unit industrial properties are at a premium.

"Beginning shortly after the 'great recession,' multi-family properties (e.g., apartment buildings) were very popular with buyers and the lending community, but this segment has peaked or is approaching its peak in most major markets. Supply has caught up to demand and lenders are becoming a bit more cautious.

"It is a far different story with multi-unit industrial properties. More and more online retailers need warehouse space to store their products, and demand is far outpacing supply in this sector. Lenders love these properties because they are usually at full occupancy, rents are continually going up, and cashflow is strong. For this reason, there are plenty of very competitive financing options for this asset type."

Healthcare Real Estate in Demand with Rapidly Aging Population:

In 1950, the population aged 65 and older represented 8.1 percent (or 13 million) out of the total U.S. population of 158 million. That percentage is projected to reach 13 percent (or 46 million) out of 355 million by 2030. This shift will place great demands on the nation's health-care system and spur considerable growth in the real estate segment of the healthcare industry.

This trend in the healthcare industry is already beginning to pick up steam now with the larger hospital systems building out or leasing real estate facilities focused on delivering specialized needs such as surgery centers, urgent care, and orthopedics, just to name a few.

Similar to the industrial-distribution space, the supply-demand fundamentals have swung heavily on the demand side in healthcare and the numbers would seem to indicate a good amount of runway in the current direction. As such, expect the lending community to compete aggressively to provide funding on healthcare projects as described above and also including senior living, assisted living, specialty care (nursing homes) and memory care, going forward.

Recent Rittenhouse Capital Transactions:

Rittenhouse has helped commercial property owners with purchases and refinances across a wide range of sectors. Here is a sampling of their recent transactions:
* Apartment Building Refinance: RCA arranged a $9,100,000 refinance for a 150-unit apartment building in Philadelphia. RCA delivered the lowest fixed rate in the market along with a non-recourse structure and capped transaction costs.
* Office Building Acquisition: RCA arranged a $54,250,000 acquisition loan for a 356,000 square-foot class "A" office building known as the Great Valley Commerce Center. Located in Malvern, Pa. this building is fully leased to credit tenants. The debt assignment for this property was highly sought-after and competitive. RCA was awarded the assignment by delivering maximum leverage and a strong long-term fixed rate.
* Single Tenant, Net Leased Retail Acquisition: RCA arranged a $4,000,000 acquisition loan for a commercial parcel that is being leased long-term by Royal Farms, a fresh food and gas station chain based in the Northeast. RCA delivered the most competitive rate amongst three other options the client was considering and the loan was closed in only 25 days in accordance with the borrowers agreement of sale.
* Mixed-Use Building Acquisition: RCA arranged a $3,000,000 acquisition loan for a mixed-use (apartment/commercial) building. The property has 9 apartments and 1 commercial unit (a 7-Eleven store). RCA delivered maximum leverage, 3 years of interest only, capped transaction costs and a non-recourse structure for their client.

"We have the expertise and lender relationships to deliver favorable financing for the full range of commercial real estate assets anywhere in the country."

Who’s Destroying ‘Health Care’ in America? asks Dr. Don Harte

CORTE MADERA, Calif. -- Dr. Don Harte, noted Northern California chiropractor and former Libertarian state senate candidate, declares: "Both sides, both parties, are saying that the other is destroying health care."

Dr. Harte observes: "There's a long history of collusion between the Medical Establishment, Big Pharma and Big Government." Harte comes to the conclusion that "Together, they've created an industry that no one can afford. And, it's the very definition of fascism, industry supported and protected by government."

Dr. Harte continues, "Not only can no one afford so-called 'health care.' No one is getting healthy! He cites "an epidemic of Alzheimer's, strokes, heart disease and diabetes Type II hitting younger and younger people, and the plagues upon our children of autism, psychiatric disorders, Type I diabetes, asthma and life-threatening allergies." Harte challenges all of us to look at results: "With far greater 'access,' there is far more sickness, and far less health."

"In this over-politicized climate," Harte states, "people expect every problem to have a governmental solution. This only makes this sick health care system sicker. Europe as an ideal? It's no ideal! Exorbitant taxes pay for poorer care. P.J. O'Rourke said: 'If you think Medicine is expensive now, wait until it's free.'"

Harte's revolutionary idea? "Chiropractic, THE health profession that pursues health rather than attacking disease, MUST become the prominent system, over and above Medicine. It's basic biology that the body heals itself through the brain and the nervous system. This is the province of Chiropractic.

"Look at the record of the Establishment's war on cancer, heart disease, etc. It's pathetic! You want healthy people, at infinitely less cost? Chiropractic is the answer!

"This American-grown profession began in 1895 with a deaf man who regained his hearing after his first adjustment. A paper just came out about a teenage girl, blind in one eye, whose sight was restored after two chiropractic adjustments."

Dr. Harte's conclusion? "Since 1895, millions have gotten off dangerous medications, avoided risky surgeries, gotten well from conditions that were 'medically impossible,' and, in general, lived healthier, happier lives, because of this much-maligned, much-misunderstood, grossly underutilized profession... Chiropractic. Rely on Chiropractic for Health, Medicine for emergencies. That would be a real health care system. It would be one that we could afford."

Dr. Don Harte, former medical student, is a principled, traditional chiropractor serving the Greater San Francisco Bay Area since 1981. Dr. Harte was named 2006 "Chiropractor of the Year" by the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA). He has served on the Boards of the WCA and the Council on Chiropractic Practice. Attorney Bernard Walsh Warns the Corporate Push for Arbitration Threatens Our Constitutional Right to a Jury of Our Peers

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Personal injury lawyer Bernard Walsh warns efforts by large corporations to resolve disputes in arbitration rather than trial by jury threaten constitutional rights. Corporations seeking to reduce their financial risk and increase long-term profits have been turning to arbitration clauses more and more.

Arbitration essentially is an agreement that any legal disputes will be settled in a private negotiation moderated by an 'Arbitrator.' More often than not the moderating arbitrator is also employed by the company and as such, has their employer's interests in mind during any negotiation of financial or legal settlement.

Arbitration agreements have quietly been added to service contracts of many important services or product purchases including everything from banking to automobile manufacturing to nursing home care providers and even food products. Often the customer is completely unaware that when they sign a service agreement, they have also consented to binding arbitration and waved their right to a trial by a jury. In some high profile cases bad publicity has resulted in corporations removing the arbitration clause from their service or product. The push for more arbitration and less trials is increasing in other ways as well.

In one such case, financial giant Wells Fargo sought in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to have a dispute over "reordering transactions," a practice in which financial transactions are reordered to maximize overdraft fees, thrown out and instead settle out of court in arbitration. However by enlarge, legal departments and business executives are more and more attempting to avoid responsibility by having customers wave their right to a jury and agree to settle dispute through binding arbitration.

Despite the effort to stop this erosion of consumer protections by a group of sixteen states and the District Of Columbia, the Trump Administration, supported by nursing home operators and the lobbyist group the American Health Care Association, is working to remove limitations for forced arbitration in nursing home services, essentially stripping nursing home residents' right to take facilities to court over alleged abuse, neglect and sexual assault.

Civil trial lawyer Bernard F. Walsh of the Bradenton Office of Shapiro Goldman Babboni Fernandez & Walsh offered this warning to consumers, "Out of sight - out of mind, combined with lobbying law makers at every level of the government, has been the strategy for many large corporations to advance forced arbitration into almost every major industry. Should the federal government and state law makers continue to bend to the will of special interests and corporate lobbyists, the constitutional right of every American citizen to a trial by a jury of peers will be side stepped. Every year we see more and more cases where people have been harmed by negligent companies and seek justice only to discover that they have waived their constitutional rights to a jury. We cannot allow forced arbitration to become the new norm and still maintain a fair and just society."

States Reaction to National Opioid Crisis Draws Comment from Bradenton Injury Lawyer Bernard Walsh

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Aggressive legal action by states to curb national opioid addiction crisis draws comments from southwest Florida civil trial lawyer Bernard Walsh.

In response to growing political pressure to stop the opioid addiction crisis, many State and municipal governments are filing lawsuits against a range of drug manufacturers.

As many areas of the United States are faced with a deepening opioid addiction crisis, state and local governments are responding by targeting the opioid manufacturers and distributors citing their aggressive marketing and sales tactics.

Opioids are a class of drug often prescribed as a pain-killer for patients who suffer from chronic pain. However, opioids are very powerful drugs that in addition to being highly effective at dulling pain, also induce a feeling of euphoria and are extremely habit forming. Opioids can be made either from their natural source the opium poppy, or as is most common in modern medicine, from synthetic sources as a product of drug engineering.

However whether the drug is from opium poppies such as morphine, a synthetic engineered drug such as Fentanyl, or a semi-synthetic drug such as Oxycodone, they all are highly addictive and should only be used when absolutely necessary.

In addition to the fact that opioids are potentially highly addictive drugs, there are more than 60 different opioid or opioid derived drugs available to physicians. Many patients may be completely unaware that the drug they have been prescribed is in fact a dangerously addictive opioid.

As a result, physicians - often motived by highly aggressive incentive marketing plans by drug manufacturers and distributors, have been prescribing these drugs in larger amounts and at much higher rates. With legitimate patients becoming addicted and often turning to illegitimate sources to feed their habit, opioid overdoses have skyrocketed. For example, in the first three months of this year in Maryland alone, there have been 550 overdose deaths.

So far six states, including Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts and Virginia, have declared emergencies to access more resources to fight the additional crisis. More states such as New Jersey, Washington, and South Carolina have begun to take action with lawsuits against drug makers.

The legal actions are not limited to States, cities have also begun to file suit against drug manufacturers. According to The Indianapolis Business Journal, Indianapolis will be suing several drug manufacturers, including Purdue Pharma, Endo and Teva, as well as naming opioid distributors Cardinal Health, McKesson Corporation and AmerisourceBergen as likely defendants in the lawsuit. Counties have also taken up the effort such as Pennsylvania's Lackawanna County which announced a lawsuit against opioid painkiller maker Allergan.

Many of the lawsuits claim that both makers and distributors of opioids 'unfairly and deceptively' marketed opioids helping fuel the opioid crisis.

The additional crisis and growing legal response have not gone unnoticed by many in the legal community.

Personal Injury Attorney Bernard F. Walsh of the Bradenton Florida office of Shapiro Goldman Babboni Fernandez & Walsh offered this comment on the crisis, "For far too long, we have allowed the financial interests of drug makers and physicians to influence the prescription of opioids. Florida has been hit very hard with many people hopelessly addicted to drugs like Oxycodone and Fentanyl.

"While there is a legitimate need for these drugs in some cases of chronic pain, doctors motivated by lucrative sales incentives and aggressive marketing tactics have been prescribing these drugs far too often and in amounts that almost guarantee addiction. With the federal government failing to act in a timely or effective fashion, it will be up to the judiciaries of state and local governments to address this process, and civil trial lawyers will play an important role in winning these cases."
