PIT STOP PLAYERS PRESENTS: ‘Absolut Collusion’ – An Evening of Great Russian Music

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Pit Stop Players, the celebrated New York-based instrumental chamber ensemble composed of veteran Broadway pit musicians, will open their eighth season with "ABSOLUT COLLUSION," an all-Russian concert at Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church, 152 West 66th Street, on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

Regarding the programming, music director Joshua Rosenblum said, "The spirit of Russian collusion seems to be all-pervasive these days. But we decided to make it musical and celebratory, instead of criminal and potentially impeachable. That's why we're going to play some of the greatest music Russia has given the world."

The selections will include: Leonid Desyatnikov's "Sketches to Sunset," Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov's "Procession of the Sardar," the second movement from Prokoviev's Symphony No. 5, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Tsar's Bride Overture," Shostakovich's Jazz Suite No. 1, Grigory Smirnov's "Air," and Stravinsky's "Ragtime for 11 Instruments." The group will also present a special new arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumble Bee," performed by pianist Garah Landes and percussionist Gregory Landes.

Cited by "The New York Times" for their "flair," "spirited readings," and "playfully cohesive programs," "making an hour-long serving of modern works not just palatable but enticing," the Pit Stop Players have taken their place at the cutting edge of New York's cultural landscape, bringing exciting contemporary music to new audiences, and upending conventional assumptions about concert programming.

Founded in 2009 by conductor/composer Joshua Rosenblum, the ensemble is comprised of some of New York's top freelance musicians, commonly regarded as the best instrumentalists in the world. Repertoire includes arrangements and transcriptions of great pieces from the recent past (encompassing numerous genres), as well as undeservedly neglected classical gems, but the primary emphasis is on new compositions that are both challenging and immediately engaging, written and orchestrated specifically for the group by today's most exciting creative talents.

Highlights have included the group's performance of "The Rite of Spring" in a specially-commissioned new chamber arrangement, as well as Rosenblum's own "Young Person's Guide to the Pit Stop Players," with special guest narrator Cynthia Nixon. Last year at Symphony Space, the Players gave a joint performance with the Brooklyn-based dance company The Chase Brock Experience, an artistic collaboration which zealnyc.com described as "perfecting perfection."

The Pit Stop Players, who collectively have played in pit orchestras for over 150 Broadway productions, include Ed Matthew, Steve Kenyon, Rick Heckman, and Don McGeen, woodwinds; Dan Culpepper, horn; Chris Jaudes, trumpet; Wayne Goodman, trombone; Robin Zeh and Suzy Perelman, violins; Denise Stillwell, viola; Peter Sachon, cello; Jeff Carney, bass; Scott Kuney, guitar; Gregory Landes and Andrew Beall, percussion; and Garah Landes, piano.

Pompano Beach’s Bailey Contemporary Arts and Ad Visual Arts Academy in Tehran Present ‘Frontier’ Global Exhibition

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- Bailey Contemporary Arts (www.baileyarts.org) in Pompano Beach is proud to collaborate with Ad Visual Arts Academy in Tehran, Iran for a global exhibit of ceramic and mixed media works that explores the idea of "Borders" versus "Frontiers." The first "Frontier" exhibition was held in Khaneh-Honarmandan, Tehran, one of the most prestigious art centers in Iran. In addition to the Iran-based exhibit, four international curators were called to collaborate and invite artists in their country to hold exhibitions.

Sarah Benichou of Bailey Arts was selected and has organized a prestigious array of artists to present. The exhibit will open September 1 and run through September 19, 2017.

"We are so honored that BaCA was chosen to be included in this outstanding global exhibit," said Benichou. "I was asked by the Academy to put together an exhibit that shows how artists understand and grapple with the notion of 'limitations,' be it physical or geographic borders, or material and medium.

"Focusing on the characteristics of ceramics, the show looks to address the concerns of the contemporary world, and how we are being limited, and at the same time challenged, to defy those limitations. The notion of borders is constraining, but in the United States the implication of 'Frontier' is inspiring."

Since the field of ceramics oscillates between art and craft with influences on painting and sculpture without a specific division between applied and visual arts, the Academy had decided that after its first ceramics-based exhibition "Breakable," the theme for this year's exhibition will be how artists can use ceramics.

Artists participating in the BaCA show include Linda Behar, Michael Boroniec, Giannina Dwin, Stephen Futej, Sibel Kocabasi, Anja Marais, Jessica Putnam Phillips, Cherie Saleeby, Anthony Stellaccio. In this exhibition, conceptual works will be comprised fully of ceramic materials, or from different media, including painting, photography, sculpture, installation, performance and ime-based arts, with ceramics integrated into the creation, and execution process.

Other countries participating in this global initiative include Japan, Turkey and France.

The Ad Visual Arts Academy, established in 2014, offers a wide variety of art classes such as theory of art, painting and ceramics in which the latter has been their area of expertise. The Academy has put this project out to galleries worldwide, in the hopes of connecting and uniting cultures through a theme that can be interpreted in many different ways.

BaCA is located at 41 NE 1st St, Pompano Beach, FL 33060.

For more information, please visit http://www.baileyarts.org/ or call 954-284-0141.

2017 Religious Freedom Run and Walk in advance of Christian Documentary Release

TAMPA, Fla. -- President John F. Kennedy quoted the Irish statesman Edmund Burke when he said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Joshuacord, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is taking those words to heart by combatting a widespread and devastating form of evil - the ruthless persecution of faithful Christians - by holding the fifth annual Joshua 1:9 Freedom Run at 8 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017, to bring awareness to the plight of persecuted Christians and raise money to support the persecuted church.

The Freedom Run will consist of a chipped 5K course for those interested in running/walking the full distance, a shorter 1 mile kid friendly fun run/walk, and an opportunity for supporters to participate virtually from anywhere in the world if unable to attend in person. The run will start and finish at Al Lopez Park: 4810 N. Himes Ave., Tampa, FL.

Organizers expect approximately 350 participants and stress that this family-friendly event is open to everyone - runners, walkers, and supporters. Participants can register online via Active.com or mail in a registration form which can be downloaded at: http://www.joshuacord.org/5k. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to register in person on the morning of the run. All registrants, including those who participate virtually, will receive a race packet and a Dri-FIT race t-shirt in appreciation for their support of the persecuted church.

Early registration is $25 ($20 for active duty military) and will be open until November 10, 2017. After November 10 and up until the day of the run, registration will be $30 for all participants. Every dollar paid in registration fees will go directly to support the persecuted church. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to donate baby blankets, gloves, mittens, and hats, at the run. All donated items will be mailed directly to Christian refugees in the Middle East prior to the start of winter.

"The Joshua 1:9 Freedom Run was created to bring awareness to the ongoing plight of persecuted Christians," says founder Patrick Carberry. "Our goal is to help those who are persecuted for their faith by raising awareness and providing support to Christians in the Middle East and Africa. We are an advocate for people persecuted by violent Islamic extremists and are working to inspire Christians across America to stand united with those who do not live under the same blanket of freedom. Our goal is to provide courage, prayers and hope to the Persecuted Church."

In addition to the Joshua 1:9 Freedom Run, Joshuacord is working on a documentary that advocates for its Christian brothers and sisters. Joshuacord has teamed up with In Altum Productions, and film director, Jordan Allott, in an effort to promote solidarity and demonstrate support for those being persecuted for their Christian faith in northern Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan and other parts of the world.

The documentary trailer - "Christians in the Mirror" - will be released and distributed to all race participants at the Joshua 1:9 Freedom Run.

"The Joshua 1:9 Freedom Run gives all Christians an opportunity to show their support for fellow believers across the globe," Carberry says. "It's not just about religious freedom and the fight against terrorists. It's also a human rights issue that requires action and prayer on our part for change. Someone once said, 'Action does not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.' In John 13:34, Jesus told us that we should live our lives by showing love for one another. He said, 'a new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so also you must love one another.'"

Please join the Joshuacord team for the fifth annual Joshua 1:9 Freedom Run on November 18, in Tampa or as a Virtual Participant, and show your support for the Persecuted Church.
