A R T I C L E:

Thomas A. Moretti ("Tom"), age 71, a 26 year resident of Inverness, IL passed away due to complications from lung cancer surrounded by his daughters on June 14, 2011. Tom is survived by his loving daughters, Joette (Mark) Doran and Suzette (Jim) Roppel and his cherished grandchildren Jay and Sarah. His brother James Moretti, sisters Rita Kincess and Carol Gilio also survive him. Tom was a successful business man and renowned Packard car restorer and authority.

Tom began restoring old cars in 1960 and bought and restored his first Packard, a 1937 Super Eight Victoria convertible in 1974. Thereafter, he restored a 1936 Packard Twelve LeBaron-bodied town car which was his first of five wins in his class at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance ("Pebble") in 1997. Tom went on to restore a 1936 Twelve convertible coupe that took first in class at Pebble in 2000, a 1934 Packard Twelve Victoria that took first in class in 2003, a 1934 Packard 1107 seven passenger touring car previously owned by the City of New York as a parade car which took first in class in 2007 and a 1932 Packard Twin Six 905 Coupe Roadster formerly owned by Clark Gable which won First Place in the American Open Packard class at Pebble Beach in 2009.

Tom was in the process of restoring a 1934 Packard Twelve Touring Sedan at the time of his passing. Tom's restorations and wins at Pebble Beach were featured in the cover story in Hemmings Classic Car Magazine in February, 2010.

Tom not only personally restored these cars but also toured and competed with them around the country winning every possible award including best of show. Despite all of his achievements in the car world Tom can best be remembered for his engaging personality, constant smile and good will to all. Everyone who knew him loved him. For those who wish to leave a lasting tribute to Tom's life, memorials to American Cancer Federation would be greatly appreciated.

Visitation will be held at Friday 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Belmont Funeral Home, 7120 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago (Info: 773-286-2500).

Alaska Gold Exchange – Helping the Community with a Local Gold Rush!

Author: Alaska Gold Exchange
Dateline: Fairbanks, Alaska (FAIRBANKS, Alaska)  | Thu, 09 Jun 2011

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “During these tough economic times, one of the most difficult things to do is raise funds for a charity or community event. Most people are worried about their home value, their job, and generally are not in the best mood - much less thinking about doing something for the community right now, says Jimi Cash, the owner of the Heart to Heart Gold Exchange of Alaska.”

A R T I C L E:

During these tough economic times, one of the most difficult things to do is raise funds for a charity or community event. Most people are worried about their home value, their job, and generally are not in the best mood - much less thinking about doing something for the community right now, says Jimi Cash, the owner of the Heart to Heart Gold Exchange of Alaska. But what if someone could raise spirits and raise money for a good cause at the same time?

Jimi Cash has created the ideal solution for this situation. He helps people host private gold parties and gold fundraisers - parties that invite your friends and family over, and they can bring their old jewelry, gold, and platinum. Whether the jewelry is broken or worn, or even one earring of what used to be a pair, The Gold Exchange will buy it from them, cash on the spot. And because individuals are either privately hosting the party or as a fundraiser, the host or the cause can earn up to 20 percent of all purchased items.

Gold parties and gold recycling have become very popular in the press and the media in the past months, and is not a new concept - so what makes these parties so different? Jimi Cash, the operator of the Alaska Gold Exchange, provides a local community service to the people in both Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska, and offers to pay top dollar for gold, guaranteed. This coupled with The Gold Exchange's willingness to partner to help local charities and fundraising events, makes this the ideal way to give back with gold and other precious metals.

"The fundraiser for my daughter's dance studio was fabulous! The Gold Exchange paid us $14,234. What an amazing opportunity for all of the people who participated - not only did my friends get paid for their scrap and old jewelry, but they helped us raise an astonishing amount of money, with the help of The Gold Exchange," said Nicole Rolden. "Thank you so much!"

"The part that I love is, although the majority of the people who come to a party are simply cleaning out their jewelry boxes, I have met at least one person at every event that needs the money. It is such an amazing concept that you can support a fund raiser and go home with more money in your pocket than when you arrived," said owner, Jimi Cash. "It truly is the gift of giving."

To learn more about the Alaska Gold Exchange, or to schedule a gold fund raising party for your local non-profit or school team, contact Jimi Cash at 907-799-2692, or by email at jcash@hearttoheartgoldexchange.com .

Pathbuilders Participates in ‘Women in the Economy Executive Task Force,’ Hosted by The Wall Street Journal

Author: Pathbuilders Inc.
Dateline: Atlanta, Georgia (ATLANTA, Ga.)  | Wed, 13 Apr 2011

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Helene Lollis, president of Pathbuilders, was a featured subject-matter expert at The Wall Street Journal's Women In The Economy Task Force April 4-6. The event brought together more than 150 CEOs, industry leaders, policy makers and subject-matter experts for an interactive working session to build strategies for growing the pipeline of female talent.”

A R T I C L E:

Helene Lollis, president of Pathbuilders, was a featured subject-matter expert at The Wall Street Journal's Women In The Economy Task Force April 4-6. The event brought together more than 150 CEOs, industry leaders, policy makers and subject-matter experts for an interactive working session to build strategies for growing the pipeline of female talent.

Participants included Nancy Carter, senior vice president, research, Catalyst; Dr. Julie Gerberding, president of Merck Vaccines; Sallie Krawcheck, president, global wealth and investment management, Bank of America; Sandra Day O'Connor, Supreme Court Justice (retired); and Robert Zoellick, president, The World Bank Group.

"The Wall Street Journal brought together iconic female leaders, major industry players, and experts on women's issues to create an unparalleled opportunity to develop meaningful proposals for change," said Lollis.

The mission of the executive task force was to address key issues that affect not only women and their potential, but also companies and their ability to harness the opportunities offered by this vital segment of the workforce.

The task force's deliberations sprang from original research commissioned by the Journal and conducted by McKinsey & Company. Central to the conference program were dynamic working groups focused on specific industries, as well as on key career stages. Lollis and other participants collaborated to identify the most urgent priorities for business and government, and to create action plans for high-impact solutions.

The task force developed recommendations with a special focus on mid-level women, who are seen as the key leverage point in moving more women into senior leadership levels. Among the top recommendations were the use of mentoring and sponsorship programs, strong talent management programs and holding senior leadership accountable for moving women forward.

Read more about the event at http://online.wsj.com/public/page/women-04112011.html . See "Task Forces" to read specific recommendations.

A R T I C L E:

Preparations are underway for the 17th annual Ely Winter Festival slated for February 3-13, 2011, in the northern Minnesota tourist city known for its local beauty and wilderness. The volunteer Board has announced a schedule of events with something for all ages and interests, ranging from the annual Mukluk Ball, Sled Dog Rides, and historic Voyageur Encampment, to a crafts fair, ice fishing contest, food events, and the Ely ArtWalk taking place over the Festival's 10-day period.

The cornerstone of the Festival is the International Snow Sculpting Symposium in the town's Whiteside Park with 20 smaller "amateur" blocks and 20 large "expert" blocks, each carved by a three-person team. "We have about 60 snow carvers, both local and some who travel here each year just for this event," said Chris Ellerbroek, co-director of the Symposium. "This year we have a theme, 'Mythology and Folklore,' so we're looking forward to seeing the creative interpretations brought by the carvers."

Alongside the carvers in the park is an authentic Voyageur Encampment, with the participants in historic garb camping out over the three-day weekend.

The downtown area of the town becomes a veritable art gallery, as merchants clear their windows to display local artists' works in the Ely ArtWalk, which also runs over the 10 days of the Festival. Over 450 pieces of art by 120 artists will be displayed this year.

The Festival kicks off with the "Snow Carvers Jam" on Thursday night, February 3, at the Ely Steak House. Some of the visiting carvers bring their instruments and join in with local musicians for a night of shared musical fun.

The Kizer Foundation hosts a Spaghetti Feed on Friday evening, February 3, and co-hosts with the Ely JayCees a WinterFest Dance on Saturday night, February 4. The events benefit the Foundation, which helps area residents with medical financial burdens.

During the day on Saturday, February 5, is the NLAA crafts fair, a fish fry at Veterans-on-the-Lake Resort, and a "Friends of the Trezona Trail" meet and greet at Northern Grounds sponsored by the Nordic Ski Club. Skiing the trail is encouraged, with equipment rental available next door at Piragis Northwoods Company. Fishermen and women can gather at the Grand Ely Lodge for the first annual Ely Rotary Ice Fishing Classic (TERIFC) for big prizes and lots of fun.

Also on Saturday, Vermilion Community College holds an open house, the Dorothy Molter Museum is open for visits and the Ely ArtWalk holds its official opening at the Chocolate Moose.

Both Sundays of the Festival, Northern Lights Lodge hosts dog sled rides for the whole family. The Amateur Snow Carving Contest is judged on Sunday morning, February 6.

On Wednesday, mid-week of the Festival, the Energy Efficient Ely (E3) hosts a panel discussion at 5:30PM in Vermilion Community College Rm 104.

The second weekend of the Festival is packed with events as well. For outdoor and history enthusiasts, on Friday morning, February 11, Outward Bound guides a group to the Hegman Lake Native American Pictographs by snowshoe. Friday begins a long weekend event by the International Wolf Center, "Mush with Dogs, Howl with Wolves."

Saturday night, February 12, Steger Mukluks presents the Lamont Cranston Blues Band playing at the annual Mukluk Ball, hosted by owner Patti Steger and Broadcasting Hall of Famer, former anchor and reporter of Minneapolis station WCCO-TV, Don Shelby. The Mukluk Ball will be held at the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa's Fortune Bay Resort Casino near Tower, MN. Bus service is being provided from Ely.

Also on Saturday night is the Dorothy Molter Museum fundraising dinner at Grand Ely Lodge. Entertainment and prizes will be offered.

Festival pins, T-shirts, beanies, brochures and information are available at the Festival Headquarters, the Front Porch Coffee and Tea Co., which has free Wi-Fi for customers' laptops and computer rental time available, as well as organic hot beverages and light, healthy food.

Up-to-the-minute details on events and Festival news can be found on the Festival's website ElyWinterFestival.com. Of special interest is the gallery, containing video and still shots of past years' snow sculptures. A web cam of the park and the snow sculptures is also available on the site during the Festival.
