Backbone Security, the global leader for digital steganography detection tools, is pleased to announce their partnership with Paraben Corporation. Backbone will utilize Paraben's virtual image mounting technology commonly known as P2 eXplorer in the steganography detection tools developed in Backbone's Steganography Analysis & Research Center (SARC).

With P2 eXplorer, digital forensics examiners using either the Steganography Analyzer Artifact Scanner (StegAlyzerAS) or Steganography Analyzer Signature Scanner (StegAlyzerSS) tool can mount forensic images and explore them as though the image was a drive on the examiner's forensic workstation while preserving the forensic nature of the evidence. In fact, P2 eXplorer is one of the only programs that mount images as both logical and physical disks. This means all the deleted, slack, and unallocated space is accessible. An image isn't just mounted to view logical files; it is mounted as an actual bit-stream image, preserving unallocated, slack, and deleted data.

Backbone Security Expands Digital Steganography Database

Author: Backbone Security
Dateline: Fairmont, West Virginia Mon, 01 Feb 2010

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Backbone Security is pleased to announce the latest version of their Steganography Application Fingerprint Database (SAFDB) is now available. FAIRMONT, W.Va. /Neotrope News Network/ -- Backbone Security is pleased to announce the latest version of their Steganography Application Fingerprint Database (SAFDB) is now available. SAFDB is the world's largest commercially available hash set exclusive to digital steganography applications.

The database is widely used by US and international law enforcement agencies; the intelligence community; and private sector computer forensic examiners to detect digital steganography applications on seized digital media or in a network traffic stream. Discovery of a steganography application during a computer forensics examination is a strong indication the application has been, or will be, used to conceal evidence of criminal activity.

Developed in Backbone's Steganography Analysis and Research Center (SARC), SAFDB Version 3.4 contains seven different fingerprints, or hash values, ranging from CRC32 to SHA-512, of every file artifact associated with 768 digital steganography applications.

SAFDB is an integral part of Steganography Analyzer Artifact Scanner, or StegAlyzerAS, a computer forensics tool, and the Steganography Analyzer Real-Time Scanner (StegAlyzerRTS), a network security appliance.

StegAlyzerAS uses the hash values in SAFDB to detect steganography applications. It also offers the unique capability to detect Windows Registry(TM) artifacts. This makes it possible to identify a specific steganography application was used even if the user uninstalled the application and deleted the associated files and folders.

StegAlyzerRTS is the world's only commercially available network security appliance capable of detecting steganography applications in real-time. It uses the hash values in SAFDB to detect steganography applications downloaded by trusted insiders in the inbound packet stream. When a detection event occurs, an alert is immediately sent to the Management Console to notify the administrators monitoring the network.

Existing customers may download SAFDB V3.4 by logging into their account on the SARC website.

Fire Captain Makes Dramatic Discovery about Children’s Inability to Escape Home Fires

A R T I C L E:

DALLAS, Texas, Nov. 12 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Annually, the United States Fire Administration reports that 3,000 to 5,000 people die in fires. This figure includes 800 children, nine and younger, and 1,200 seniors. One fire captain, owner of Hand2Live, has set out to alter those statistics.

Career firefighter, Captain Greg Lawler, knows that many children and the elderly often experience difficulty opening windows. And, with only three minutes to escape a flaming house fire, everyone must be prepared to quickly make the correct escape decision through viable exits.

"Know your options before fire strikes," Lawler says.

Several years ago, Captain Lawler discovered this problem first hand. During a home fire drill, he learned that his 6-year old daughter, Olivia, could not open her bedroom window - one of two ways out.

The drill took place in the middle of the night - the most vulnerable time. They reviewed the drill once and began. The first drill was successful. Olivia rolled to the floor and was advised that conditions were acceptable for using the front door.

But, the next drill did not go as well. When told that conditions were not acceptable at the front door, Olivia was directed to use the window, but struggled. In a real-life situation, the clock ticks and the fire consumes the home with each passing second.

Lawler called to Hannah, Olivia's older sister, to help her open the window. However, what if Hannah was not there in a real-life situation?

Most fire fatalities occur at night and victims are usually found near the front door, in a bathroom or a bedroom. And, while the window is taught as a second way out, in many situations, it may quickly become the first.

So, what was the problem? Olivia found difficulty with the locks and was unable to grasp the ledge with her small fingers. After teaching fire safety courses, Lawler soon realized that Olivia was not alone in her challenge.

After examining the problem, Lawler discovered that window manufacturers have varied maximum allowable opening forces; all windows he tried were different. In addition, other factors such as excessive moisture, dirt and grime and shifting foundations also contribute to difficult opening.

"The bottom line is that everyone should be able to open all the windows," Lawler adds.

And so, Hand2Live was born. Named after Lawler's daughters, Hand2Live has patented a device that attaches to the sash lift or ledge of any window. It's a durable, non-permanent and fully-graspable aluminum handle that helps people lift the window. Handles for wood windows without a sash lift or ledge are also available.

So, with two ways out, why does America have the fifth highest reported fire death rate? Perhaps, like doors, windows should have handles too.

Captain Lawler recalls an early morning fire where a child was unable to get out and his father, in desperation, broke the window with his fist and was able to rescue his son. As a result, the child suffered burns and lacerations from being pulled through the broken window, but recovered.

"Breaking a window is dangerous, difficult and not the best option," Lawler says.

Authernative Granted U.S. Patent on Key Generation Method for Encryption and Authentication System

Author: Authernative, Inc.
Dateline: Redwood City, California Mon, 26 Oct 2009

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Authernative, Inc., the leading developer of innovative user authentication and identity management technologies, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company its patent for encryption key generation method. The newly issued US Patent No. 7,577,987 titled 'Key generation method for communication session encryption and authentication system' describes a new encryption key management system integrated with a two-factor authentication protocol.”

A R T I C L E:

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Oct. 26 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Authernative, Inc., the leading developer of innovative user authentication and identity management technologies, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company its patent for encryption key generation method. The newly issued U.S. Patent No. 7,577,987 titled "Key generation method for communication session encryption and authentication system" describes a new encryption key management system integrated with a two-factor authentication protocol.

This system provides for mutual authentication of the connected parties in a client-server architecture which results in a secure distribution of secret session-only random symmetric encryption keys that are generated at the server and distributed to clients.

The wide proliferation of B2B and B2C e-commerce networks enabling connections from user's mobile devices, laptop/desktop computers, ATMs, POS terminals, set-top boxes, VOIP phones, GPS and other data processing devices necessitates enhancement of the security infrastructure at the consumer level, especially in the area of user authentication and data-in-transit security. Usage of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) has certain limitations at the mass user level due to technology deployment complexities, cost, and administration of the consumers' keys / certificates. Authernative-patented MEDIA™ protocol overcomes these PKI issues by using two-factor authentication credentials adopted in e-commerce with the benefit of providing seamless mutual authentication and a secure session-only random symmetric encryption key distribution enabling further secure data exchange.

"Authernative's encryption key management system enables an easy to administer high security solution," said Dr. Len Mizrah, President and CEO of Authernative. "The advantage of the MEDIA™ protocol is a capability to mutually authenticate with the server either a client platform or a human user at the client platform, depending on credentials utilized. In both cases, it protects from pharming or phishing attacks respectively."

The security of the key exchange in the MEDIA™ protocol is based on innovative algorithms enabling the following three Authernative-patented technologies: (1) a key generation architecture utilizing the Time Interplay Limited SRK (Session Random Key) Algorithm (TILSA™) - U.S. Patent No. 7,577,987, (2) a key exchange protocol utilizing the TILSA™ algorithm and communication parties' authentication credentials with Key Encryption/Decryption Iterative Algorithm (KEDIA™) - U.S. Patent No. 7,506,161, and (3) a Key Conversion Array (KCA™) technology providing for high security message exchange over non-trusted communication media by utilizing either of patented algorithms: Bit-Veil-Unveil (BitVU™), Byte-Veil-Unveil (ByteVU™), and Bit-Byte-Veil-Unveil (BBVU™) - U.S. Patent No. 7,299,356.

These patented technologies embedded into Authernative AuthGuard® user authentication product enable strong user authentication and client-server mutual authentication during the authentication stage of the communication session and secure exchanges of encryption keys to allow secure content delivery. The CrosSecure® Authernative® Cryptographic Module integrated into AuthGuard® has received FIPS 140-2 certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (USA).

AuthGuard® offers a suite of one-factor, layered, and multi-factor authentication to meet a variety of security and usability requirements. AuthGuard® user authentication is electronically mass deployable, has scalable security, high usability, low total cost of ownership, and efficient integration/customization options with legacy environments. MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Aug. 6 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Detector Electronics Corporation (Det-Tronics®) today announced the release of the GT3000 toxic gas detector family - a group of electrochemical fixed-point detectors that provide non-intrusive calibration, communication via 4-20mA and HART protocol, the ability to swap sensors without de-classifying hazardous areas, and third-party performance certifications (gt3000.det-tronics.com). Det-Tronics is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

GT3000 toxic gas detectorThe GT3000 family includes sensors that detect these gases (more added soon): hydrogen sulfide (H2S), oxygen (O2), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH3), chlorine (Cl2), hydrogen (H2), and sulfur dioxide (SO2).

A GT3000 detector consists of a transmitter (GTX) and a sensor module (GTS). The transmitter generates a 4-20mA output signal with HART that is proportional to the concentration of the target gas and corresponds directly to 0-100 percent full scale. GT3000 is approved as a stand-alone device, but can partner with Det-Tronics' FlexVu® Universal Display for quick device set up and easy access to sensor status including local alarm and event logs.

"One of the primary benefits of the GT3000 is added intelligence with features such as automatic sensor recognition and local event logging," says Mike Bragg, product development manager. "Additionally, because of the design and intrinsic safety features, users do not need to de-classify hazardous areas when attaching a sensor to a transmitter."

GT3000 detectors are well suited to harsh environments, having been tested by a third party to the Ingress Protection standard and achieved the IP66 rating. In addition, all sensors have third-party performance approvals.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., April 22 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Detector Electronics Corporation (Det-Tronics) has announced enhancements to its xWatch® camera and surveillance system (xwatch.det-tronics.com). Options include viewing hazards over an internet connection and recording activities before, during, and after hazardous events. Det-Tronics manufactures flame detectors, gas detectors, and safety systems and is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

DetTronics xWatchThe new options fortify surveillance systems by enabling users to:

* Immediately view industrial hazards remotely via a configurable IP address

* Accurately detect hazards by integrating the explosion-proof camera with a flame detector

* Record and review incidents for event analysis

* Integrate surveillance seamlessly into a safety system

Following are three of the many options available as part of a surveillance plan:

* a stand-alone, industrial-grade xWatch camera

* a camera partnered with a flame detector that provides accurate fire detection

* a surveillance solution integrated into a fire and/or gas safety system.

With Class I, Div. 1 and NEMA 4X approvals from third-party approval agencies such as FM, CSA, CE, and ATEX, the xWatch camera, combined with a Det-Tronics flame detector, is ideally suited for remote and hard-to-access areas. The camera and detector view the same expanse. Continuous, real-time video provides the operator with surveillance capabilities during normal operation. If a fire is detected, the operator can quickly view a control-room monitor to assess the risk and initiate the appropriate response. Moreover, the DVR option allows users to evaluate the conditions leading up to and following the event.

"People working in hazardous areas recognize the need for accurate and fast flame detection. They also recognize the value of using video camera technology to see real-time fire events and record them," said Charlie Hoff, Product Line Coordinator at Det-Tronics. "Extensive tests have shown that detecting flames is best done with dedicated flame detectors, while visual assessment is best done with dedicated surveillance cameras. The xWatch camera coupled with a flame detector provides the best of both worlds."

A R T I C L E:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., April 16 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Parallel Technologies, Inc. announced today that it has achieved Video Surveillance Authorized Technology Provider (ATP) status from Cisco(R). This designation recognizes Parallel Technologies as having fulfilled the training requirements and program prerequisites to design, resell, install and maintain a full range of video surveillance and access-control solutions.

Cisco physical-security solutions provide network-centric capabilities to video surveillance, Internet Protocol (IP) cameras, electronic access control and other groundbreaking technologies by converging voice, data and physical security into a single appliance. This enables customers to preserve existing investments in analog-based technology and to use the network as a platform upon which more collaborative and integrated physical-security systems can be built.

As customers converge physical-security infrastructures and operations and begin using the network as a platform, they gain rapid access to relevant information and increase interoperability with other IP-centric systems. This enables higher levels of situational awareness in environments where intelligent and timely decision making is crucial.

"Cisco's entry into the Physical Security market is the next evolutionary step in moving the entire enterprise to a centrally managed IP solution," said Dale Klein, President of Parallel Technologies. "Parallel Technologies is pleased to add Cisco surveillance and access control to its growing IP networking, wireless, and unified communications practice."

"As we move into new markets and emerging technologies, the Cisco Authorized Technology Provider Partners are instrumental in helping our customers turn innovative technology into a competitive advantage," said Steve Benvenuto, director of emerging technologies for worldwide channels at Cisco. "As a Cisco Video Surveillance ATP Partner, Parallel Technologies brings a unique set of skills to potential customers, combining a proven physical-security track record with Cisco expertise."

To qualify for the Video Surveillance ATP Program, Parallel had to meet a number of requirements, from having staff who fulfill specific job responsibilities to achieving the Cisco Express Foundation Specialization. Those requirements are designed to help a partner maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.

About Cisco ATP

The Cisco ATP Program is a key part of Cisco's emerging technology go-to-market strategy. The program helps define the knowledge, skills and services that channel partners need to successfully sell, deploy and support a subject technology. As markets mature and technologies progress along the adoption curve, some ATP programs may migrate to Cisco specializations.
