Historic Ironworks Factory Creates Products that Protect in Face of Pandemic

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A third-generation, family-owned and operated ornamental iron and metal fabrication company, Fortin Ironworks, is stepping up to create new products driven by a surge in consumer safety. These American-made products are destined to be an integral part of the "new normal."

Manufacturing products designed to keep people safe is not a new concept for Fortin Ironworks. In fact, it's been doing it for nearly 75 years with specialized items such as decorative handrails, fencing and gates. But now with the recent COVID-19 pandemic, like so many other businesses, it's getting requests for new ways of doing things.

"Our historic old company has been asked to produce more consumer safety products," Robert Fortin, product developer, says. "Specifically, 'new norm' products that will soon be popping up everywhere."

Fortin Ironworks has now added foot pulls, touchless keys and mask brackets to its product lineup. The company is equipped with high-tech laser machines which can create beautifully engraved, custom pieces that not only look good, but can help businesses with branding and create that personal touch (or touchless) experience for individuals who enjoy artisan creations too.

These new foot pulls and touchless keys are designed to limit the number of items that people have to touch on a daily basis. Foot pulls are easy to install, touchless keys are easy to use and eye-catching face mask brackets ensure that people are not just another face in the crowd.

"We can engrave just about anything on these foot pulls, touchless keys and mask brackets from logos and names to school mascot images and many organizations are asking for that," Fortin says.

Foot pulls are ideal for hospitals, schools, restaurants and factories - basically anywhere there are high numbers of people.

"It's a new world out there and we plan to be part of it for years to come," Fortin says. "We want our consumers to move into the future with confidence and are committed to our mission to protect."

Fighting COVID-19 with Smart Elevators that Automatically Disinfect when Empty

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Ashla Systems announced today the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has industries searching for answers on what technology can help in the fight against contamination. Many groups are starting to focus on a system that has been tried and tested for over 70 years; UV-C light which has been proven to kill the virus after just 10 minutes of contact.

UV-C lights harness the power of the sun and disinfect by disrupting the molecular bonds that hold together microbial genetic material or proteins. Ultra Violet light has been used extensively for more than 40 years in disinfecting drinking water, waste water and hospitals against hundreds of bacteria and viruses including COVID-19 related viruses - SARS-COV-1 and MERS-COV.

Companies are emerging around the globe developing new technologies using UV-C lights to help kill the virus. There have already been huge breakthroughs including UV-C robots that can disinfect rooms and airplanes in short periods and tunnels that buses can drive through to be contaminant free.

Ashla Systems Is focusing on one of the most crucial points in all buildings, elevators. In the US each year elevators make 18 billion passenger trips and each elevator carries an average of 20,000 passengers per year. Elevators carry 40 times more bacteria than public toilet seats according to a study by the University of Arizona. This alarming fact is pushing building owners and hotels across the world to develop safe and secure methods for keeping elevators clean.

According to scientists, after someone sneezes, coughs or speaks loudly the coronavirus could remain airborne for up to 3 hours. The virus lives on metal and plastic for up to 3 days. Elevators are so vital to movement of people in a building they can be a major weak point in a landlord's strategy to keep their buildings safe.

Ashla is leading the way with smart elevators designed to sense when they are empty of passengers and use the full power of installed UV-C lights to completely kill viruses and bacteria like coronavirus, influenza and 100s of others in the air and all surfaces.

"Ashla is racing to fulfill tremendous demand for this product in elevators. Landlords are calling from all around the world to get us to install these systems as fast as possible in their elevators. We are working as hard as we can," according to Paul Smith from Ashla Systems.

This demand is no surprise as According to the Director of CDC Dr. Robert Redfield, "For decades, collectively, our nation's under-invested in public health... Now is the time for us to over-invest in public health. This virus is going to be with us."

A recent study conducted by Ohio State University suggests that even organized efforts to clean surfaces can fall short, requiring extra cleaning to be done on a daily basis, especially to fight the spread of coronavirus disease. Only 50% of surfaces cleaned are properly disinfected.

Mr. Smith goes on to say, "Many companies are pushing their cleaning crews to the max, and labor can only produce so much. Landlords are asking their staff to clean elevators every 15 minutes. It's just not a realistic strategy. Cleaning products and spraying in the air can cause harm to humans in enclosed environments such as elevators and are not good for long term use."

About: Ashla Systems designs, installs and helps maintain UV-C light systems in elevators. The light system is installed inside the elevators and activated when the infrared system detects no human presence inside. Sweeping the area with penetrating UV rays and killing all virus and bacteria inside both airborne and on surfaces. The system needs to only run for 10-15 min intervals.

DAPA Products Shares Reasons to Upgrade Product Quality

JASPER, Ala. -- DAPA Products, a window and door components manufacturer, shares reasons to upgrade supplies with virgin raw materials. DAPA realized early in their manufacturing establishment that many suppliers received less than quality products. DAPA wanted to change the industry. They provide quality supplies and stand behind each of their products, 100%. Suppliers around the globe depend on DAPA for high-quality supplies of extruded plastic products, window and door components, as well as upholstery products.

DAPA considers the following elements that make great products:

1. Streamlining the Process

When it comes to upholstery and fenestration products, streamlining involves three aspects. These are the system, the materials, and the process.

2. The System Is Key

The system of providing customers with excellent products does not include price consideration, according to DAPA. Their only concern is making the highest quality fenestration products. Through steady growth, DAPA began mixing materials and producing the DAPA Foam Spline. Foam spline was an innovation in the industry that significantly improved outcomes for screen industry workers.

3. The Right Materials

DAPA made it a mission from the beginning to use and produce only the highest quality of products. By using only the best virgin raw materials, DAPA can manufacture and provide this quality material in upholstery products. DAPA are specialists in the unique contours, complexity in design, and the highest precision requirements.

4. The Process Makes It Best

Due to the Foam Spline focus, DAPA increased its number of extrusion lines and production time to 24 hours a day. Along with the significant products of Foam Welt Cord and Foam Spline, DAPA provides multiple other products for this market and many others.

All companies can provide designs to order, but very few can give the order on time and with materials that last, as DAPA has always done.

5. Commitment

DAPA provides customers with the highest quality, on-time orders. This means competition, however, DAPA will not risk quality in order to give a cheaper cost. The quality that is provided to the customer will always remain the highest standards.

DAPA continues its growth with new products such as braided welt cord. As wholesale upholstery product suppliers, DAPA continues to advance in window screen products, as well as the window screen components our customers demand. The focus of DAPA is always customer first and only the highest quality product.

The DAPA Products team has a complete commitment to providing customers with the best service and highest quality products on the market! Current Builders Introduces Innovative Parking Garage Building Technique

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- Current Builders (www.currentbuilders.com) has introduced a new time-saving technique to build parking garages using a "column hung shoring system." The award-winning general contractor based in Florida, recently topped out their Aura Boca project.

This luxury apartment community, in the heart of Boca Raton, includes an 8-story parking garage that was completed, from start of foundation to top of last pour, in six months; a reduction of almost 25% of the standard build time. Current Builders plans to market this technique as an alternative to precast and post tension garages.

"This is an important advance in the construction process for garages that was developed by Mike Gillette, vice president of our Structures division," said Rolf Severtson, Executive Vice President of CB Structures. "We are very proud of Mike's innovative advance which is helping accelerate our completion times."

"Aura Boca is the first project to utilize this innovative shoring system for the perimeter beams," explained Gillette. "The system consists of a 60,000-pound column mounted jack supported by wide flange W beams. This system eliminates the need for re-shoring under the beams which reduces costs and time, and additionally provides a 7-foot working table for iron workers and carpenters."

Gillette's innovation was partially inspired by bridge building techniques and his own on-going creative process. For the Aura Boca project, the Current Builders team was able to build a new floor every 12 working days, which is very rapid pace compared to the industry standard of 15-17 working days.

Current Builders recently topped out the Aura Boca project and looks for final completion by December 2020.

Vermont Company Jamaica Cottage Shop Ships 10 Thousandth Building

SOUTH LONDONDERRY, Vt. -- Jamaica Cottage Shop has hit a milestone. After 25 years of being in business, it's excited to announce it just shipped its 10 thousandth building. And, considering the company's owner first started out building dog houses, that's a pretty impressive accomplishment.

Domenic Mangano, owner, Jamaica Cottage Shop, attributes the company's success to its direct to consumer model which keeps cost low and to its post and beam construction which keeps quality high. Shipping is free in the continental U.S. and eastern Canada which adds quite a bit to savings too.

The post and beam design uses rough hemlock and Eastern white pine, milled predominately in Vermont sawmills. Only superior hardware is used.

Jamaica Cottage kits ship in self-contained shrink-wrapped bricks and are designed for easy, onsite assembly. Lumber is American grown, sustainably harvested and native rough-sawn.

Perfect for every use, top sellers include the Vermont Cottage, a charming, one-room 16 x 20 building; the Vermont cabin, a 20 x 30 post and beam dwelling; the Gibraltar and the Xylia - both ideal candidates for a tiny home or cabin.

Vermont Cottage Company also makes the projects very affordable by offering fast financing in the checkout process.

"We try to make everything easy for our customers," Mangano says. "That's what sets us apart from the competition."

In addition to four season tiny homes and cottages for living, Jamaica Cottage Shop also offers storage, garden and livestock solutions. There are DIY kits with easy-to-follow, color-coded directions and pre-assembled options too.

"It's all about keeping it simple," Mangano says. "And, when you combine quality and savings, it yields success. It's time to start working towards the next 10,000 now."

About Jamaica Cottage Shop, Inc.

Founded in 1995 by Domenic Mangano, Jamaica Cottage Shop, Inc. is a privately-held company. The name is derived from the town where it was first launched - Jamaica, Vermont. It's a group of premier builders of fine post and beam buildings such as tool sheds, cottages, wood sheds and livestock shelter. Built by Vermont tradesmen, each structure is crafted with a personality of its own creating a distinctive and aesthetically pleasing sight that will enhance any landscape. It offers complete design-to-finish solutions for clients searching for a special sanctuary.

Dayna’s iCare Foundation Partners with Amish Builder to Send Shippable Homes to Bahamas Hurricane Victims

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- When Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas, it destroyed thousands of lives and over 13,000 homes were lost. The region continues to be in the midst of a humanitarian crisis and thousands from Great Abaco are still displaced and struggling for shelter. Dayna's iCare Foundation, a 501(c)(3), is working to help solve the housing problem with its partner, TinyLux Homes.

Armed only with a concept and a dream, Dayna Spence, founder, Dayna's iCare Foundation (DIF), approached TinyLux Homes, an Amish Builder, with an idea she had for building shippable homes. What they came up with even surpassed her dreams and is now a reality.

TinyLux Homes is creating not-so-tiny, full, partially built, three-bedroom, 900-square foot homes that are weather tight with hurricane resistant windows. They're able to quickly be built on any existing foundation. The first DIF Home is about to ship and be constructed in the Bahamas.

DIF homes ship in 40-foot containers and when they arrive in the Bahamas, DIF has arranged for a local builder to construct the homes.

"He told us to send extra nails when we ship because even getting basic supplies like that is still something they need to depend on other regions for," Spence says.

DIF hopes to donate at least 10 homes to families with children, but can ship an unlimited amount of homes to the devastated area. Spence is currently seeking corporate partners and sponsors willing to donate homes to help families who lost everything. "Ten, five, even one donated or sponsored home would make a world of difference for an entire community. It's time for us to help our Caribbean neighbors rebuild," Spence says.

"The possibilities for these DIF homes is really endless. Once the word gets out about these shippable homes, it could be a real game changer for disaster victims around the world. These homes can also take the burden off crisis shelters in the U.S.," Spence says.

Hurricane Dorian victims who had homeowners' insurance may purchase DIF Homes "at cost" for $23,048 plus shipping. Interior packages are available and include things like flooring, kitchen and bathroom amenities, trim, ceiling fans and more.

"This is such an exciting time for us," Spence says. "TinyLux has gone above and beyond what my initial concept was and their expertise and skilled craftsmanship really shines through. We're more than just partners now - we're forever friends. I sense we're on the verge of something really great here."

Crawl Space Door Systems, Inc. Announces Court Case Win Against Competitor Making False Claims

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- On September 24, 2013, Smart Vent filed a lawsuit against Crawl Space Door Systems, Inc. in the NJ Federal Court, case 1:13-cv-05691-JBS-KMW. Crawl Space Door Systems, Inc. filed a counter-claim. The lawsuit is now over and Crawl Space Door Systems won.

"We're happy to announce that the Federal Court ruling finalized what we've known all along - that Crawl Space Door Systems' engineered flood vents are FEMA and NFIP compliant," William G. Sykes, owner, Crawl Space Door Systems, says.

As of October 24, 2019, some of the jury findings revealed that Smart Vent (SV) was unable to prove that Crawl Space Door Systems (CSDS) made false statements about the coverage of CSDS's flood vents; or made false or misleading statements about the purchase and use of CSDS's flood vents to reduce flood insurance premiums.

However, CSDS was able to prove that SV made false claims about CSDS' product statements. More importantly, CSDS was able to prove that SV actually harmed CSDS's business in terms of declining sales and loss of goodwill. CSDS was also able to prove their flood vents do reduce flood insurance premiums.

"We're happy justice prevailed," Sykes says. "SV has a history of filing lawsuits against competitors, but this time we won."

Other companies that SV has filed lawsuits against include: AAA Louvers and Millworks, Inc.; USA Floodair Vents, LTD.; and Vinylast, Inc. They're all out of business now.
