Soberlink Launches ‘Addiction Care is Healthcare’ Campaign in Honor of National Recovery Month

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. -- In recognition of National Recovery Month this September, Soberlink, the 'Gold Standard' in alcohol monitoring, is proud to announce the launch of its 'Addiction Care is Healthcare' campaign. The initiative seeks to normalize addiction care and firmly establish its place within the larger umbrella of holistic healthcare.

"Soberlink celebrates National Recovery Month by showcasing the parallelism between healthcare and addiction care," reads the campaign's landing page. The company's mission is to break barriers, shift paradigms, and erase stigmas associated with alcohol monitoring and addiction care.

Joshua Cagney, M.A., an Addiction Recovery Professional, emphasized the importance of Soberlink's technology in the recovery journey. "External structures are critical for clients in early recovery from Alcohol Use Disorder. I'm not sure that I've found a better tool to create external structure outside of the treatment environment than Soberlink," said Cagney.

Recent studies underscore the urgency of the campaign's message. Research supported by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) reveals that nearly one-third of adults in the U.S. have experienced Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) at some point in their lives. Alarmingly, only about 20 percent of them seek AUD treatment.

Soberlink's state-of-the-art design and technology provide a modern, discreet user experience, rewriting narratives on alcohol monitoring. "Much like tools in traditional healthcare, such as glucose monitors for diabetes, Soberlink plays a pivotal role in addiction care by fostering connectivity, accountability, and progress tracking," the company stated.

The campaign's landing page, which can be found at https://www.soberlink.com/addiction-care-is-healthcare, offers more insights and resources on the importance of addiction care in the broader healthcare landscape.

For media inquiries or further information about the 'Addiction Care is Healthcare' campaign, please contact Thy-An Tran, Soberlink's Advertising & Marketing Director, at ttran@soberlink.com.

About Soberlink:

Since 2011, Soberlink has linked sobriety with technology to create the most comprehensive remote alcohol monitoring system. Recognized as the 'Gold Standard' in alcohol monitoring by healthcare professionals and clients alike, Soberlink continues to innovate and lead the industry in ensuring that addiction care is seen as an integral part of holistic healthcare.

Eye Safety and the Upcoming Solar Eclipse

DENVER, Colo. -- Doctors of optometry across Colorado are addressing the eye safety concerns that come with an Annular Solar Eclipse by teaming up with Eyes of Colorado and the Colorado Optometric Association (COA) throughout September 2023.

On October 14, most of Colorado will be able to witness up to 80% of obstruction from the annular solar eclipse. This rare event is when the Moon does not completely cover the Sun and what looks like a dark disc with a bright reddish-orange ring around it will appear. Looking at the sun without proper eye protection can cause eye injury.

There are many safe ways to view a solar eclipse, but if there are any doubts or concerns be sure to consult an optometrist near you to help determine the best options for viewing.

WAYS TO SAFELY VIEW THE SOLAR ECLIPSE ARE:

* Solar eclipse glasses -- Use expert-approved solar "eclipse glasses" to view a solar eclipse safely and without damaging your eyes. Eye protection must be worn the entire time while watching a solar eclipse.

* Pinhole projection -- This is the safest and most inexpensive way to watch a solar eclipse.

* Welder's glass -- Use number 14 welder's glass which can be found at a local welder's supply or home improvement store. Welder's glass will reduce the harmful rays that are emitted during the eclipse.

* Mylar filters -- Aluminized mylar plastic sheets are available as eclipse vision glasses or can be cut and made into a viewing box. Do not use it if there are any scratches or damage to the sheet.

* Additional options -- Viewing the solar eclipse on TV or at a planetarium are always great options.

With any of these methods, make sure that the products are not damaged, scratched or broken to ensure maximum eye protection.

To avoid unnecessary vision damage during the solar eclipse, do not use the following devices to view the upcoming natural phenomenon.

Do NOT use:

* Smartphone

* Camera viewfinder

* Unsafe filters

Unless specifically designed for viewing a solar eclipse, no filter is safe to use with any optical device (telescopes, binoculars, etc.). These options can cause an individual to accidentally look at the sun, damaging their eyes and also damaging the tool being used.

Solar eclipses are an exciting and rare event for most people to witness but be sure that you are properly prepared and protected when the time comes. Viewing must be done with caution to protect one's eyes from eclipse blindness", says Dr. Scott Middlemist, Board President for the Colorado Optometric Association. Read full article ( https://eyesofcolorado.org/the-sobering-risks-of-skipping-that-annual-eye-exam/ ).

About the Colorado Optometric Association (COA):

The Colorado Optometric Association (COA) is the professional organization of optometrists in Colorado. Over 600 Colorado Doctors of Optometry are voluntary members of the Association. COA has also launched a public health campaign called Eyes of Colorado ( https://eyesofcolorado.org/ ).

Since 1892, the COA has assisted its members in providing the highest standard of professional care to their patients by sponsoring continuing education programs for doctors, advocating in local and state governments for programs and laws that represent patients' best interests, and providing information for the public. Prominent Podiatrist Brings Decades Of Experience To Brandon, Wesley Chapel

BRANDON, Fla. -- A veteran podiatric surgeon is taking his years of experience in the classroom and the surgical suite to Modern Foot & Ankle. For more than two decades, Dean Sorrento, DPM, a double board-certified foot and ankle specialist, has embraced a nuanced solution to fully educate his patients regarding their diagnoses and treatment options.

"I use a technology-based, patient-centric approach that simplifies the challenge and offers real solutions," he explained.

This is in line with the approach of Modern Foot & Ankle, a leading-edge podiatric group with 13 clinics in Tampa and Orlando, Fla. The practice prioritizes customer service and leverages advanced technologies to provide each patient with a unique, comfortable, and efficient experience.

Dr. Sorrento says he believes patients will appreciate the streamlined care that simplifies their visits and makes them more enjoyable. Today he will start seeing patients, dividing his time between the Brandon clinic, located at 540 Medical Oaks Avenue, and the Wesley Chapel office at 5841 Argerian Drive.

"My family and I enjoy the activities and sporting events found on the west coast as well as the beaches," he said. "Being in the Wesley Chapel and Brandon areas will allow us to be in a suburban family community while still being close to all that Tampa has to offer."

Dr. Sorrento spent 22 years of his medical career in Pennsylvania after completing his training at the University of Pennsylvania. He co-founded a podiatric practice and later merged with an orthopedic group-all while educating the next generation of foot and ankle surgeons as an assistant professor at Penn State University.

"To teach podiatry and simultaneously practice it is to gain a comprehensive, real-time knowledge base," said Dr. Sorrento. "I was consistently sharing my experiences in the practice with my students."

With a wide range of skills and many years of practice, Dr. Sorrento's special interests include deformity correction, sports medicine, and cutting-edge bunion procedures. Yet he underscores the importance of solving problems without surgical intervention and preserving it as a last resort.

"Being a podiatrist offers an opportunity to alleviate patients' problems in many different areas, such as injury, sports medicine, biomechanics, and surgery, if needed," he said. "Patients should come to my office if they desire a comfortable, educational experience with a modern twist."

Planet Defense LLC and UniDoc Health Corporation Collaborate to Deliver Smart Health Remote Clinics to Rural and Underserved Populations in the USA

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Planet Defense, a global leader in smart healthcare solutions, is proud to announce a strategic partnership with UniDoc Health Corporation (UniDoc), a North American-based firm renowned for its cutting-edge healthcare technologies. Together, the two companies will build and deploy Smart Health Remote Clinics - first in the State of Alaska and then nationwide - that overcome the numerous healthcare disparities faced by underserved populations.

This collaboration will truly revolutionize the access that such challenged communities have to quality healthcare and will make it possible for even the most vulnerable populations to consistently receive essential, first-rate medical services resulting in improved patient outcomes.

Planet Defense, in collaboration with a consortium of technology and healthcare partners, will conduct a first-of-its-kind pilot project utilizing UniDoc's state-of-the-art products in the State of Alaska. This pilot will allow both firms to assess the operational effectiveness and social impacts of those deployed Smart Health Remote Clinics as they work towards the broader goal of delivering these same types of clinics nationwide. To ensure the successful implementation of this initiative and to gather valuable insights for future expansion, Planet Defense and UniDoc will work closely with local healthcare organizations, community leaders, native corporations, and government agencies in Alaska and other US states. By fostering such strong relationships, both businesses aim to tailor these Smart Health Remote Clinics to the specific needs of rural and native populations along with other underserved communities so as to achieve healthcare that is culturally sensitive and patient-centric.

Cutting-edge technologies including state-of-the-art medical devices installed within the Smart Health Remote Clinics will offer patients a wide range of medical services such as primary care, specialized consultations, chronic disease management, and preventive care. These real-time, in-person and telehealth consultations, as well as effective diagnostics, treatments, and monitoring options will aid patients in better managing their health and wellness conditions. By leveraging such advanced capabilities, these clinics will bridge the gaps currently existing between patients from rural and underserved populations and their healthcare providers. Each deployed clinic will be staffed with a registered nurse (RN) and a qualified technology specialist.

Dr. Indu Singh, President and CEO of Planet Defense LLC, stated, "Rural and underserved populations utilizing our Smart Health Remote Clinics will greatly benefit from this collaborative effort which will then lead to accessible, equitable, and inclusive healthcare for all regardless of location or socioeconomic status. By bringing advanced healthcare services directly into underserved communities, our creative and effective solutions will successfully address the challenges of geographical distance, transportation limitations, and the lack of healthcare infrastructure in remote areas. Doing so will have a very positive impact on communities in need - improving patient healthcare outcomes and enhancing patients' overall well-being."

Expressing his enthusiasm for this innovative endeavor, Mr. Antonio Baldassarre, UniDoc's President and CEO, said, "We are delighted to work hand in hand with Planet Defense. This partnership is an important milestone in our mission to improve healthcare delivery. By combining our extensive technological experience and capabilities with Planet Defense's proven smart strategic leadership and systems integration, we are confident that together we will make a very visible and measurable difference in the lives of native and underserved populations throughout America."

New Podiatrist In Kissimmee Brings Balanced Approach to Foot and Ankle Care

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- With an equal affinity for surgical intervention and conservative care, Vanisaben Patel, DPM, knows a thing or two about balance. Specializing in everything from reconstructive surgery to diabetic wound care, Dr. Patel's range illustrates her depth as a practitioner. This week she will step into her new office with Modern Foot & Ankle for the first time, ready to serve the Kissimmee community with her compassionate approach to podiatric healthcare.

"I love being a foot and ankle specialist because I played a lot of sports growing up and I had a widely-respected podiatrist who always kept me on my feet," said Dr. Patel. "I aspire to create that same standard of care for my patients."

A major factor in Dr. Patel's decision to join Modern Foot & Ankle was learning about the multiregional podiatric group's dual emphasis on advanced technologies and patient comfort.

"Modern Foot & Ankle has a family-friendly environment and wants to be a part of the community," she explained. "I'm excited to join a group that has such an even mix of technology-based and patient-centric care."

Evenness and balance are attributes that continue to characterize Dr. Patel's medical career. She has performed thousands of surgeries and been exposed to a comprehensive range of pathologies while operating in an emergency room setting. These experiences, she says, acutely sharpened her skills in both areas.

"My medical and post-grad training involved a heavy clinical and surgical load that exposed me to all sorts of traumas, pathologies, and patient problems," said Dr. Patel. "Due to this I am a well-trained physician who can provide my patients with the resources they need to heal."

She noted that she's been trained to use the newest technologies and surgical techniques for both elective procedures, such as bunion corrections, and complex fractures.

"I have a passion for surgical intervention, when it's necessary, but I also love the clinical side of podiatry," she said. "My goal is to have a busy clinic with a strong surgical schedule."

Dr. Patel's determination to provide first-rate care enables her and her patients to thrive. And by offering extended office hours, advanced on-site equipment, and little-to-no-wait appointments, Modern Foot & Ankle is a natural fit for her.

"It's easy to get up every day and head to work ready to help patients when you're supported by such a full-scope practice," she affirmed.

After living in various cities around Florida to complete her education and training, Dr. Patel says she is excited to move close to her hometown in Brevard County.

"My favorite aspect about the area is that it's a melting pot-people from all over the world move to Orlando and contribute to its unique and dynamic culture," she said. "The people of Kissimmee are warm and welcoming, which is exactly the type of community my husband and I are looking to build our lives in."

Besides becoming the new primary provider at the Kissimmee clinic, located at 3070 Loopdale Lane, Dr. Patel will also offer evening hours at the Celebration office on Tuesdays. To schedule an appointment with her, visit book.mfahealth.com.

US Kidney Research Corp Unveils Breakthrough Ultrafilter Membrane for Dialysis

ROSEVILLE, Calif. -- US Kidney Research Corporation (USKRC) is delighted to announce new groundbreaking research as part of a contract with the University of Arkansas (U of A) resulting in the development of an ultrafiltration membrane with diverse filtering applications for medical and non-medical devices. This remarkable membrane represents a significant advancement, particularly in the field of dialyzers, the filtration device used in hemodialysis machines to remove toxins, promising improved dialysis performance and enhanced ultrafiltration flux.

The recently published research in Scientific Reports (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-023-37765-y) unveils a novel membrane created through a tempo cellulosic oxidation process and cast using ionic liquids. Notably, the membrane showcases exceptional biocompatibility, the ability to clear potential uremic toxins, and excellent stability. Its unique structure, characterized by the alignment of fibers after casting, leads to an extraordinarily high flux and substantial BSA rejection in ultrafiltration mode, surpassing the performance of traditional dialysis membranes.

"We were highly impressed by the membrane's behavior and performance; the fiber alignment in the final structure allows for superior functionality compared to conventional dialysis membranes," expressed Jamie Hestekin, one of the lead researchers at U of A.

As part of this concerted effort, USKRC has secured worldwide rights for the patented U of A membrane in all biomedical applications. USKRC's founder and CEO Roland Ludlow, revealed that the corporation intends to explore sublicensing partnerships both domestically and internationally, with the aim of expediting the introduction of this cutting-edge membrane technology to the market, enabling its use in dialysis and other relevant applications.

Dr. Ira Kurtz, Chief of Nephrology at UCLA, who is an author on the Scientific Reports paper and serves as the lead medical/scientific advisor to USKRC commented, "This new membrane chemistry could be a game changer in the care of renal patients."

USKRC is actively engaged in several other research projects, including the development of a waterless portable blood purifying device that could potentially replace current dialysis machines, an implantable artificial kidney, and a coating to prevent blood coagulation within medical device tubing and catheters. The company has solidified its position as a leader in renal therapy research, earning prestigious recognition as a two-time winner of the KidneyX contest, sponsored by the American Society of Nephrology and the US Department of Health and Human Services. Monetary awards for KidneyX were generously provided by the US Congress and the American Society of Nephrology.

About US Kidney Research Corporation:

US Kidney Research Corporation (formerly Curion Research Corporation), is an award-winning company incorporated in Delaware (C-Corp), founded in June, 2015. The company is creating the world's first waterless blood purification technology for use in a portable device and ultimately an implantable artificial kidney, as well as other novel technologies to improve the lives of patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) or acute kidney injury (AKI). US Kidney Research Corporation has patents for its waterless blood purifying technology in USA, Japan, India, S. Korea, China, along with 17 European Unitary patent member countries.
