GPF Foundation Fellows Providing Critical Perspectives on Peer-to-Peer Outreach While Gaining Real-Time Experience in Harm Reduction Practices

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- From educational program development to writing a peer-review article on the diagnosis and treatment of patients in medical emergencies due to the use of adulterated street drugs, GPF Foundation Fellows apply their academic knowledge and compassion to develop and deliver educational presentations for the GPF Foundation (GPFF).

Graduate level fellows are drawn from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL. Significantly, a number of Fellows are contributing original scholarly work for a 2022 issue of the medical journal "Disease-a-Month." Edited by Dr. Jerrold B. Leiken, GPF Foundation's 2021 Harm Reduction Award winner, "Disease-a-Month" provides current, practical information to clinicians, with an emphasis on patient evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. Nancy and Ross Friedman, two of the Foundation's founders, will write the forward to the article to contextualize GPFF's work by sharing the story of their son, Greg, who passed away during a psychotic break brought on by a one-time use of MDMA (street name Molly or Ecstasy).

The current cohort of GPFF Fellows include:

* Lexie Kessler (fourth year medical student) helped to create a research-based educational presentation on MDMA, adulteration and harm reduction. Recently, she was appointed to the Foundation Board of Directors.

* Alex Woods (fourth year medical student) says "it gives me great pleasure to see how far the Foundation has come from reviewing the literature to forming and revising our educational program, and now validating our program's utility through an [Institutional Review Board] IRB-approved study."

* Hamad Hussein (third year medical student) is part of the cohort working on a comprehensive educational program for high school and college students regarding the associated risks and dangers involved with MDMA and other recreational drug use.

* Dagmara Zajac (a third-year pharmacy student) who "wants to ensure that people are aware of the mechanism of action of street drugs and their adverse side effects."

* Marianne Chirica (seeking a Master of Science in Psychology) was impressed by the Foundation's harm reduction approach because the "more knowledge students have, the better they can make safe and smart choices."

* Taylor Macaulay (doctoral student of Clinical Psychology) was attracted to the Foundation because of her love for working with adolescents and young adults.

* Sam Vincent (doctoral student of Clinical Psychology) joined the Foundation to help educate others about recreational use of MDMA and conduct research on the Foundation's educational effectiveness.

* Alaa Hajeissa (medical student studying psychiatry) is dedicated to helping young people who may feel like they have no one to turn to as they struggle with substance use and other psychological issues.

* Jeremy Foreman (third year medical student) conducted research on chronic pain and opioid use as an undergrad at UCLA. He was drawn to the Foundation's non-judgmental, comprehensive approach to drug education.

* Hamed Shafiuddin (fourth year medical student) has helped his community by providing health education concerning sex and common drugs that allows students to make thoughtful decisions.

* Aayush Boddu (third year medical student) is fascinated with understanding the mechanisms of how recreational drugs affect an individual's biological, social, and psychological functioning.

Above and beyond all their accomplishments and ongoing contributions, especially noteworthy is the fellow's genuine enthusiasm about working collaboratively with the Foundation to save lives. This is evident in their already-expressed interest to continue working with the Foundation beyond the original timeframe of their Fellowship.

Applications for the 2022/2023 cohort are now being accepted. Applicants should go to https://www.gpffoundation.org/contact to request an application.

About The GPF Foundation

The GPF Foundation was founded in 2018 to save lives by supporting education, appropriate treatment and overall awareness of the dangers related to recreational drug use. In pursuit of this mission, GPFF focuses its work in two interrelated areas: 1) Educational Initiatives to mitigate the dangers of playing a modern day version of "Russian Roulette" with street drugs, including peer-to-peer outreach on the risks of MDMA (Ecstasy or Molly), particularly adulteration with other substances, and effective harm reduction strategies; and 2) Medical Initiatives that include development and dissemination of innovative clinical training tools for front line medical providers that address a critical "blind spot" in the accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of those experiencing adverse effects of psychostimulant use. LUI Releases New Album as Belated Valentine’s Gift to Fans

GRAYSLAKE, Ill. -- Today, Lui Salazar, known by his stage name as LUI, released his new art rock album, "Astronomical Ways to Die" under the Dead Internet Records label. The album can be found on most music streaming platforms, and plans for a limited physical release are underway.

LUI, a recording artist and music producer based near Chicago, says that his release didn't start out as a love album but became one.

"The album began a time in my life when I needed change and wanted to find love," LUI explains. "The songs started as quirky fantasies and desires. By about the second half of the project, I found love. Some of the lyrics became more direct and personal, but the songs retained my campy, weirdo vibe."

"Astronomical Ways to Die" is a belated Valentine's gift to LUI's fans. For the better part of a year, he has been obsessively recording and producing vocals, violins, flutes, guitars, and various folk instruments for the album.

LUI reflects on his release: "I always felt my last album, 'Truth Is Like a Seed,' was too preachy. This time, I wanted to be profound but in a fun way. It's a love album, not a philosophy book. Life doesn't suck, and woe isn't me. Happy belated Valentine's Day."

About Lui Salazar:

LUI is a multi-instrumentalist born and raised near Chicago. He is the co-founder and primary music producer for Dead Internet Records. His unconventional rock music combines eclectic instrumentation with a maximalist, wall-of-sound production style. He does everything, from song conception and production to mixing and mastering, at his home studio in Grayslake, Illinois.

Darley Family Foundation Sends 5,000 Gallons of Water to Dixmoor, Ill.

ITASCA, Ill. -- The Village of Dixmoor has been facing a water crisis for nearly ten days, forcing residents to search for safe water alternatives. In effort to help the citizens in their most vulnerable time, the Darley Family Foundation sent a truckload of Safe Water Boxes™ to Dixmoor. One truckload holds twenty-three pallets of Safe Water Boxes, with eighty boxes per pallet, adding up to 5,000 gallons of water in total. Each box is 2.64 gallons of premium drinking water.

Officials stated the cause of the water crisis was a faulty valve that had been turned off and caused several breaks in the pipe; the valve must be dug up and manually turned back on for the emergency to be resolved. Fire hydrants from Harvey and Blue Island are being used to fill up the Dixmoor reservoir, and a boil water order is in place.

Unfortunately, the current fix to Dixmoor's water crisis is only a band-aid solution; the infrastructure is over 100 years old and a permanent fix could cost in excess of $20 million. This could be a long-term crisis for Dixmoor.

"We hope our contribution will ease the difficulty Dixmoor residents are currently facing," said Kevin Sofen, Darley business development manager.

Real Estate Technology Firm Swift Homes Partners with Radio One on Marketing Campaign

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Today, Swift Homes announced a partnership with Radio One on a multiplatform marketing campaign across multiple markets in the United States to help build awareness of Swift Homes' benefits and seller-friendly offerings that are available to consumers who are looking for real estate advice and services.

"Our partnership with Radio One is important because of the scope and scale they provide," a Swift Homes senior executive said. "As the largest radio network serving the urban community, their relationship with their audience allows Swift Homes to effectively communicate to prospective home sellers - educating audiences across the country about simplifying their home selling process."

Swift Homes is a technology company specializing in fast and easy home sales without the seller needing to list their property with a realtor. Their innovative platform provides home sellers with a fast cash offer and closing as quickly as thirty days. Additionally, with Swift Homes, sellers pay no traditional broker fees and make no repairs.

Swift Homes stands out among its competitors because it operates across the United States, so sellers aren't limited to specific geographies. In addition, Swift Homes provides special seller-friendly offerings such as allowing sellers to remain in their homes with a rent back program. Even more, Swift Homes will make a purchase even if the home being sold is an investment home with tenants.

The marketing campaign began earlier this year and currently airs in the following Radio One markets: Atlanta, Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, Raleigh
