Realtime North America and SecuGen Collaborate to Provide Strong Biometric Authentication to SAP

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- SecuGen, a world leading optical fingerprint device and technology vendor, is pleased to announce the exclusive integration of SecuGen fingerprint readers with realtime North America's bioLock software.

The Check ID in SAP fraud prevention and accountability technology provided in realtime's bioLock software is known to significantly increase SAP security by protecting any function in SAP with a 2nd biometric factor. Security is of paramount importance because 77% of all global business transactions touch an SAP system, which is used by most global Fortune 500 companies and governments.

As an example, bioLock can trigger the bioLock security check when a high-volume financial transfer is attempted. Also, bioLock can check the identity of one or multiple authorized users (if using dual controls) to limit the risk of corruption and collusion. A log file records all functions and the uniquely identifiable users who executed those functions. Therefore, if a user is trying to execute a protected function that they are not allowed to access, an automated message can instantly inform the security team that a potential fraud attempt is in progress.

Most fraud cases start with a borrowed password and an attempted account takeover. Realtime's granular biometric control center is installed inside SAP to protect SAP from the inside out. BioLock can protect not only the logon to SAP but, more importantly, any SAP transaction or function like saving or pressing the enter key. Fingerprints can help to undeniably connect a transaction with the user's true identity. So now, for example, you can prove who created the purchase order or issued that multi-million-dollar wire transfer.

Realtime's bioLock has been tested to work with some of SecuGen's best-selling fingerprint readers, including Hamster Pro 20, Hamster Pro 10, and Hamster Pro Duo SC/PIV. Each of these readers are FBI-certified for image quality and are used by commercial firms and governments around the world. SecuGen has designed these readers to be accurate, rugged, and affordable making them ideal for large deployments.

Jeff Brown, VP of Sales of SecuGen stated, "We are always on the lookout for partners who can take our fingerprint readers and add significant value in the marketplace. Realtime North America clearly does this with their software integration. BioLock provides tremendous value to SAP users who want to step up their security with powerful fingerprint technology."

"Our first bioLock technology was certified by SAP 20 years ago," added Thomas Neudenberger, Chief Operating Officer of realtime North America. "When it became time to build a brand-new fingerprint client technology from scratch, we choose SecuGen and built a client software that is exclusively compatible with SecuGen fingerprint readers."

Neudenberger continued, "With bioLock reseller partners in all continents, we had to integrate a high-quality fingerprint sensor that was globally available at a reasonable cost. SecuGen checked all the boxes. Certified for bioLock for 15 years, SecuGen was our recommended choice for fingerprint reauthentication with bioLock."

Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen said, "We have been partnering with realtime North America for well over a decade. This is the type of partnership we are always looking for. The software that realtime developed helps corporations solve real problems, and we are proud to be teaming up with them."

You can see how the SecuGen fingerprint reader works with bioLock technology in this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/6HVuOGeNEOQ

SecuGen Releases Unity 20 Serial Standalone Fingerprint System

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- SecuGen, a world leading optical fingerprint device and technology vendor, is pleased to announce the official release of the Unity 20 Serial, an ultra-compact, RS232 serial interface fingerprint system that captures and matches fingerprints on the reader itself.

The Unity 20 Serial is SecuGen's next-generation fingerprint authentication system designed for integration into applications that need biometric authentication capability such as Point of Sale (POS) terminals, Time and Attendance (T&A) tracking stations, and other devices where a serial connection is required.

With a rugged and ultra-compact design, the Unity 20 Serial comes preloaded with SecuGen's Fingerprint Management System software that allows it to be used right out of the box to capture fingerprint images, extract templates, enroll, store, search, and match fingerprint data all in one device without the need for an external host. The Unity 20 Serial is FBI certified for use in FIPS 201 PIV and Mobile ID FAP 20 applications. The template extraction and matching algorithms that run on the device are NIST MINEX compliant.

The Unity 20 Serial replaces the older ID-Serial product, which offered similar functionality as a standalone fingerprint system with serial connectivity. The Unity 20 Serial now packs SecuGen's latest technology into a much smaller-sized device-74% smaller, that is-plus a separate DB-9 connector that makes it more convenient to integrate this all-in-one fingerprint recognition device into systems outfitted with serial ports. As with all its products, SecuGen maintains its focus on utility, quality, design and affordability, and the Unity 20 Serial-offered for 35% less than the price of its predecessor-is no exception.

The Unity 20 Serial is based on SecuGen's flagship all-in-one U20-ASF module that features the rugged, high image quality U20-A optical fingerprint sensor and a Single Board Computer having a 1 GHz CPU, a fully programmable Linux system, SecuGen's FMS fingerprint matching SDK, and OpenSSL cryptographic libraries. All of this is housed in the same ultra-compact package as the popular Hamster Pro 20, which provides the tools and technologies needed for rapid and efficient integration with other hardware systems.

Jeff Brown, VP of Sales and Marketing for SecuGen stated, "We are pleased to release the first standalone fingerprint system able to fit into the small form factor of our best-selling Hamster Pro 20. The Unity 20 Serial fingerprint system does more than just read fingerprints. It also carries out all the biometric functions of fingerprint processing, one-to-one and one-to-many matching, and secure storage all in one tiny device. The product is a technological marvel, and we're excited to make this available at an affordable price."

"The Unity 20 Serial fingerprint reader is the newest addition to the Unity family of products. It leverages the innovative Unity fingerprint platform that we designed to simplify the development of new products," commented VP of Engineering Dan Riley. "We've loaded plenty of great features including full programmability in the Unity 20 Serial without sacrificing quality, which is the core of all products we develop at SecuGen."

Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen, added, "As always, we focus on developing the products and tools our partners need to compete successfully in this highly competitive industry. The new Unity 20 Serial is a perfect example of this focus. Our team has worked long and hard on the Unity biometrics development platform. This is one more product that comes from that effort, and we are very proud to be able to offer this new fingerprint product to our partners."

An OEM version of the Unity 20 Serial, called the U20-ASF-SR, will soon be made available. The U20-ASF-SR consists of the entire fingerprint recognition system and connector components in the Unity 20 Serial but without their housings and is suitable for more customized integration into third party products.

Simprints Launches 2nd Generation of their SecuGen Based Fingerprint Scanner, ‘Vero 2.0,’ to Improve Coverage of Vaccines and other Global Health Interventions

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Simprints, a Cambridge, UK-based biometrics company, develops Vero 2.0, an evolution of their original Vero scanner, based on SecuGen's fingerprint module, to improve the distribution of healthcare, microfinance, and aid to the poor around the world.

Simprints is a nonprofit technology company that develops and deploys biometric technology uniquely for global health and development contexts. Traditional "Western" biometric technology is less effective in such contexts, where the environment in which people live means that they are more likely to have scarred or worn fingerprints. In contrast, Simprints built their system to be highly accurate with these kinds of challenging biometrics. Simprints' solution integrates with existing mobile tools used by international NGOs and government ministries to verify that their services are reaching the intended beneficiaries. To date, the organization has helped more than 12 partners reach over 387,000 people across South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

The development of Vero 2.0 was kickstarted by a partnership with Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, and NEC to boost immunization coverage worldwide. Leveraging technology from Arm and SecuGen, Vero 2.0 has the following features: Near-Field Communications (NFC) to facilitate a seamless, wireless Bluetooth pairing with a mobile device; a redesigned printed circuit board (PCB) powered by the ARM Cortex-M0 32-bit MCU that enables streamlined manufacture; configurable LED colors for increased cultural acceptability and accessibility for the color-blind; fast image-transfer from scanner to mobile and backend storage for robust matching capabilities: and SecuGen's high-resolution fingerprint sensor module capable of achieving up to 1,700 DPI for detailed image capture. Simprints is working with local manufacturer, Prima Electronic Services, to build 1,400 units for immediate use in healthcare projects across sub-Saharan Africa.

An improvement on its predecessor, Vero 2.0 is highly accurate, durable, wireless, water- and dust-proof, and ergonomic for health workers in low-resource areas. This development will bring Simprints and its partners one step closer to accurately verifying the identities of patients from 1 year old and above, in order to ensure that every single person is reached with life-saving medical care.

"Simprints helps us save time and labor. We like working with the scanner because it's easier to identify patients," says a community research assistant in Malawi.

"Simprints makes our workflow flawless. We had challenges before, like supply bottlenecks. We'd end up giving too many shoes, only to realize not too many of these children actually exist. So, we tied our distribution to a fingerprint," says the leader of a local health organization in Kenya.

Jeff Brown, SecuGen's VP of Sales added, "We were delighted to support Simprints to develop a product that met their specifications while keeping the costs down. We are excited to have our fingerprint technology play a part in projects involving low resource settings where the lives of so many can benefit."

"Simprints is an impressive group of people with an equally impressive dedication to doing good in the world," stated Won Lee, SecuGen's CEO. "It is a privilege to work with them to bring such an important product to fruition."

Nick Russel, Chairman of Prima Electronic Services, said, "Manufacturing a product that has such a positive impact on communities is something the team here at Prima are very proud to be involved with."

SecuGen Brings Unity to Connect:ID 2020

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- SecuGen, a world leading optical fingerprint device and technology vendor, will be highlighting the Unity™ Biometric Development Platform (BDP) at the Connect:ID 2020 exhibition for next generation identity solutions. The Unity BDP is a versatile development platform that facilitates the creation of a wide array of fingerprint enabled biometric products, and Connect:ID is the ideal venue to showcase this exciting new platform.

Increasingly, customers are driving hardware device manufacturers to consider whether biometric security is appropriate for their products. SecuGen has now made it very easy to embed sophisticated fingerprint technology into many kinds of hardware products with its new Unity Biometric Development Platform.

The Unity BDP offers device manufacturers a flexible, expandable, and easy to use environment that provides a simplified way to embed fingerprint capability into various products such as access control devices, time & attendance machines, civil ID handheld devices, ATMs, industrial equipment, point of sale equipment, and much, much more.

With an integrated Linux development environment and embedded biometric fingerprint registration and matching functions, Unity BDP delivers efficiency of development in a very compact but powerful package.

SecuGen has used this same architecture as a springboard to accelerate the development of its own new products, which include both finished fingerprint readers and OEM modules. The Unity BDP underpins an expanding list of SecuGen's newest fingerprint readers like the Unity 20 Serial and Unity 20 USB, as well as the Unity 20 Ethernet and Unity 20 FIDO devices that will be released later this year. In addition, the Unity BDP serves as the basis for several of SecuGen's currently released and not yet released OEM fingerprint sensor modules such as the U20-ASF, U20-ASFX, U20-ASF-BT, U20-ASF-U, U20-ASF-SR, and U10-SF.

The Unity development platform provides engineering organizations with an FBI-certified FAP 10 or FAP 20 fingerprint sensor, NIST compliant template extraction and matching algorithms, and a set of tools that support both software and hardware expansion and speed up the development of new products. In addition to the ultra-compact sensor, the platform provides an open Linux system running on a 1 GHz CPU, and a modular design that easily accommodates standard interfaces such as serial, USB, Bluetooth, ethernet and more. Unity BDP includes an API that gives developers access to the template extraction and matching algorithms as well as the OpenSSL cryptographic library that allow for full, secure fingerprint biometric functionality within the very same device.

Using Unity BDP, many developers will find that there is no longer a need for a separate controller board since Unity BDP comes with its own fast processor, programmable Linux, and accessibility through common interfaces. This makes Unity BDP an ultra-compact, enormously capable, and affordable all-in-one biometric platform built upon SecuGen's renowned high-quality optical fingerprint sensor.

Developers are invited to learn more about the Unity BDP by visiting SecuGen's booth #542 at Connect:ID 2020 in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C. on March 11th and 12th.

"We began work on the Unity BDP to advance the development of one of our new products," stated Jeff Brown, VP of Sales and Marketing for SecuGen. "As we proceeded, it became clear that this architecture would enable our partner's product development as well. Relentless effort by our engineering team has enabled us to go far beyond delivering a simple fingerprint sensor like in the past. Now, Unity BDP delivers a comprehensive set of tools that allow developers to create fingerprint enabled products quickly and efficiently. This platform is revolutionary."

VP of Engineering Dan Riley added, "Our engineering team has come up with a new approach to delivering world class OEM sensors. Unity BDP is not just a sensor, it is an entire development platform that is both software and hardware expandable. The uses for this platform are nearly limitless, and it represents an enormous leap in OEM fingerprint technology."

Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen, said, "For nearly the entire lifetime of SecuGen, we have focused exclusively on delivering to our partners the tools they need to compete successfully in this highly competitive industry. Unity BDP is the culmination of a decade of effort. We are very proud to be able to deliver the first product of its kind, a complete biometric development platform that is top-of-the-line, compact, and still, amazingly affordable."
