A R T I C L E:
This January, as part of its ongoing Charity of the Month program, the Gingrich Foundation honors Catholic Charities USA for its outstanding legacy of service to those in need.
Formed in 1910 to be the “attorney for the poor,” Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA), is now one of the largest social service networks in the country. CCUSA invests donations in programs and services that further its national mission: to provide service to people in need, to advocate for justice in social structures, and to call the entire Church and other people of good will to do the same.
Catholic Charities provides food, shelter, clothing, counseling, direct financial assistance, and other emergency services to over 9 million people each year, regardless of religious, social, or economic background. Inspired by the social teachings of the Catholic Church, CCUSA advocates for the inherent dignity of all human beings to ensure that each have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
“The Gingrich Foundation is pleased to support Catholic Charities USA in their effort to reduce poverty and empower communities,” said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. “Newt and I encourage others to join us in supporting the mission of this worthy organization and extend a hand to those in need.”
“We are deeply appreciative and very honored to begin the new year by being selected by the Gingrich Foundation as the Charity of the Month for January, 2011,” said Rev. Larry Snyder, President and CEO of Catholic Charities USA. “We have just completed our Centennial year and the introduction of new legislation – the National Opportunity and Community Renewal Act – to address poverty in this nation. The timing couldn’t be more perfect to receive the support and broad endorsement of our work by the Foundation. It will take our message and our mission to a broader audience. We are extremely grateful.”
Catholic Charities USA has set a goal to reduce poverty in America by 50% by 2020. The organization amplifies local actions into a bold voice that teaches, shares, and encourages new solutions to reduce poverty in America. Despite significant increases in requests for assistance and decreases in financial support, the resolve and dedication of Catholic Charities’ volunteers and staff has not wavered.
The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.
