A R T I C L E:
Kentucky’s Moonlite Bar-B-Q Inn will be celebrating its fiftieth anniversary with a good, old-fashioned get together in its parking lot on Sunday, April 28, 2013, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be free sandwiches, soda, chips, ice cream, brownies and cotton candy in addition to live music, balloon twisters and inflatable areas where kids can play.
In the tradition of the Sunday family get-together, no alcohol will be permitted.
It all started 50 years ago when Pappy Bosley got laid off from his job at the Fleischman Distillery. It was this event that caused him and his wife, Catherine, to reexamine their opportunities. So, they sold their house and used the equity to buy the Moonlite – at the time, a 30-seat roadside stand. Over the next several decades, it grew into a barbecue legacy.
“I am proud to be part of this legacy and overwhelmed by our customers’ loyalty. When we first started talking about a celebratory event we thought we might muster up 500 people or so, but as customers spread the word, we realized we could have thousands,” Patrick Bosley, manager of the Moonlite Bar-B-Q Inn and also the youngest grandson of Pappy and Catherine, says. “Well, we knew we would need help and we got it. More than 22 organizations and people have come together to help make this anniversary an event to remember.”
Supporters include: B&B Graphics, Charles Bellamy, Hugh Bittle, Booker’s Service Station, Jeff Boone, David Boswell, Budweiser of Owensboro, Clark Distributing, CRS One Source, Earth Grains Bakery, HB Graphics, Golden Flake, Gordon Food Service, Messenger Inquirer, Moonlite Employees, Joel Osborne, Owensboro Twister Club, Pepsi, Prairie Farms, Servants Inc., Smith Outdoor Advertising, Linda and John Story, Sysco, WBIO, WBKR, Welborn’s Florist, Jama Woodard, and more.
Today, Moonlite Bar-B-Q Inn is a well-known Kentucky Tradition that boasts 350-seats; it’s an award-winning destination that has been featured in Gourmet Magazine, Southern Living, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times and on the Food Channel.
