A R T I C L E:
Earth Day is April 22 and USA Coffee Company is doing its part to save the planet. Florida-based USA Coffee Company is proud of its efforts to produce conventional certified Hawaiian coffee that is environmentally friendly.
“We have developed farming practices that return the harvesting and processing byproducts back into the soil to control weeds, and to replenish the soil’s nutrients,” Ted Massinello, president of USA Coffee Company, says. “We also recycle the coffee wash water and the green waste from pruning. All branches and twigs are mulched and recycled year after year; nothing goes into landfills.”
Massinello says that it will continue to farm its specialty coffee by recycling by-products that are biodegradable.
Additionally, USA Coffee Company has recently introduced the reusable and eco-friendly coffee filter, Ekobrew, for Keurig single-serve brewers. It’s made in the USA and BPA free. It’s also compatible with the Cuisinart, Breville and Mr. Coffee single-cup machines.
And, because the Ekobrew is reusable, there is no disposable plastic and foil cup to end up in a land fill. This year alone, more than five billion K-cup packs filled with imported coffee will be sold, used and then discarded.
“So, make coffee, not trash,” Massinello says.
The Ekobrew has a financial advantage as well. Coffee drinkers who use the Ekobrew with USA Coffee can expect to save 70 percent or more because there is no need to purchase the K cups. It’s a $0.20 average cost per cup versus $0.70.
It’s pretty too. Ekobrew’s durable and attractive design has won high praise from critics making it a finalist for the 2012 Housewares Design Award presented by HomeWorld Business.
