USI Establishes UAS Training Center of Excellence in Collaboration with Gulf Coast State College

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Unmanned Safety Institute (USI) announced today that they will be establishing the first-in-the-nation Unmanned Safety Institute - Center of Excellence, a remote pilot training and safety certification center, at Gulf Coast State College (GCSC) in Port St. Joe, Florida.

In 2019, Unmanned Safety Institute celebrates five years of implementing and promoting best-in-class aviation-based safety practices into the unmanned industry. The USI Center of Excellence brings exclusive leading unmanned safety and education training programs to a region dedicated to workforce development, specifically in aviation and unmanned technology skillsets. The commercial training site at the Gulf/Franklin Campus will enable organizations to obtain safety-based unmanned aircraft training with USI's structured education, training and evaluation standards for competent and professional remote pilots.

As automation of unmanned technology increases, the skillsets of remote pilots operating them must transform as well. The Center for Excellence offers real-world experience in safety best practices imbuing confidence and expertise in risk averse operations; fully automated or entirely remote pilot controlled.

Qualified students will have the opportunity to participate in unmanned aircraft training in accordance with Textron Systems' training standards, backed by more than one million UAS flight hours. Textron Systems and USI will be working together to ensure that the new program offers resources that support classroom and flight activity directly related to Textron Systems' unmanned aircraft systems. The USI Center of Excellence will directly support this effort.

USI's certifications are part of a three-tired safety program that demonstrate increasing levels of certification tied to training and education:

Unmanned Safety Institute’s Drone Curriculum Approved by the State of California

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Unmanned Safety Institute (USI), the world-leader in remote pilot training and certification, announced today that their Small UAS Safety Certification has been certified by the University of California (UC) A-G program. UC A-G approval will enable high school students to use USI's four-course curriculum to meet admissions requirements to any state education institute. Current program guidelines require students who are applying to the UC school system to complete 15 year-long A-G courses prior to finishing high school.

The Unmanned Safety Institute's STEM curriculum, which has been approved by several State Departments of Education, is currently being utilized in 20 states across the country, in an effort to establish industry standards for safety training and UAS professional UAS operations as part of the drone industry's workforce development program. To date, USI has trained over 5,000 students in the field of unmanned aerial systems.

DIXON, Calif. -- Moller International is offering to sell its original M400 Skycar(R) via public auction as a centerpiece of any car or aircraft collection in a public or private museum. It is the world's first true VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) "Flying Car" to be demonstrated. It is very prevalent on Google and YouTube under M400 Skycar.

The M400 Skycar is a true museum piece, developed over many years and first flown in 2001 at the company's shareholder meeting. It has since flown (under a restricted environment) many times. This vehicle was featured on the covers Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, and the topic of countless news articles and broadcasts including 60 Minutes, ABC, Bloomberg, CNN, and Discovery Channel.

Current Builders is using the latest technology to enhance safety protocols by showing team members in 3D which conditions could be hazardous before they even step onsite.

"Utilizing this emerging virtual technology to enhance job site safety is a critical application," said Kar Ho, Virtual Design and Construction Director. "This virtual technology is useful for seasoned employees but is invaluable for recent graduates entering the field. Now, they will be much better prepared to enter real world conditions."

Current Builders' mentoring and education programs have been a core component of the 45-year-old company, and now with this tech immersion the construction industry is attracting a wider range of students exploring the profession.

"For kids who grew up gaming, they find our field very exciting," continued Ho. "We are in the R&D phase of drone flights over projects, that once fully implemented, will take daily and even hourly photos, to capture 'as-built' conditions. That information will then be overlaid into the 3D model, which will allow us to make adjustments to reflect the onsite realities. Ultimately, the combination of these technologies will give us a greater capacity to forecast problems before they happen in the field. This ability will offer our clients tremendous cost savings."

Ho is confident the next phases of virtual reality will usher in an even greater era of problem solving capabilities, as he anticipates designers meeting virtually at sites to review real-time situations, making changes before construction begins.

"Communication is going to be greatly enhanced," explained Ho. "Less will be lost in translation between all the different teams and subcontractors, and problems will be mitigated much earlier in the timeline."

Ho sees this level of this immersive VR being about a year or so away, as currently the controls need to become more intuitive and user-friendly.

"Changes are coming rapidly -- it is an exciting time in the industry. Years ago, we would spend hours with clients showing them a variety of samples for kitchens and baths finishes, now they watch 3D models and instantly click through hundreds of different combinations," said Ho. "This has eliminated days, if not weeks, from this process because they are experiencing it in 3D instantly. The next step will be even more productive as it will be a truly virtual walk-through experience."
