All Green Electronics Recycling announces its new national headquarters' grand opening on January 13, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. - a Green Carpet Event - followed by a free, three-day electronics recycling event aimed at giving back to the local community in Orange County. Both are open to the public and are located at: 15561 Del Amo Ave. in Tustin.

All Green Electronics Recycling is California's largest electronics waste collector and it is excited to unveil its new headquarters to the general public and to celebrate with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and more.

"We are particularly excited about the promising new job opportunities available for California residents," says Arman Sadeghi, CEO, All Green Electronics Recycling.

All Green is growing at jaw-dropping rates. While many companies continue to cut back and lay off valuable employees, All Green has hired a new person every 4.1 days since its incorporation and is predicted to hire another 100 employees in the next six months.

In addition to new jobs, many local non-profits and schools will also benefit. All Green is creating community partnerships and setting up collection events while donating a percentage of the proceeds from the recycled electronics.

Rather than allowing old televisions or computers to end up at the dump, All Green provides the public with a way of recycling their old working or non-working electronics safely and responsibly - for free. In fact, those with at least 10 computers, monitors and televisions can go to: http://www.allgreenrecycling.com to schedule a free pick up in many areas.

About All Green Electronics Recycling:

Founded two years ago, All Green Electronics Recycling is a full-service electronics recycler and collector. It offers pick-up services as well as hundreds of convenient drop-off locations, nationwide. Currently, it collects more than two million pounds of electronics per month.

Unlike many of its competitors, the company sorts and separates all e-waste within their warehouse and does not ship anything overseas for processing. It also ensures that any electronics placed in its care will never find its way into a landfill.

All Green already has a recycling facility in Sacramento and is set to expand its New York operations within 60 days.

New Fumigation Emissions Control Facility

Author: Value Recovery, Inc.
Dateline: Bridgeport, New Jersey (BRIDGEPORT, N.J.)  | Mon, 13 Dec 2010

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Value Recovery, Inc. announced today that Guadalupe Cooling of Nipomo, CA has obtained a license to use Value Recovery's methyl bromide emissions control technology for its new Quarantine and Pre-shipment fumigation operation. The facility will be constructed by Controlled Environments Construction of Tustin, CA.”

A R T I C L E:

Value Recovery, Inc. announced today that Guadalupe Cooling of Nipomo, CA has obtained a license to use Value Recovery's methyl bromide emissions control technology for its new Quarantine and Pre-shipment fumigation operation. The facility will be constructed by Controlled Environments Construction of Tustin, CA who are major US building contractors in the agricultural sector.

Value Recovery has developed and patented a technology for the environmentally friendly chemical destruction of methyl bromide after fumigations. Value Recovery's methyl bromide emissions control technology works by forcing the air stream containing methyl bromide into an aqueous thiosulfate solution prior to releasing the air into the atmosphere. This "chemical scrubbing" method not only protects the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere but also protects workers and bystanders.

The technology is comprehensive, chemically destroying over 90% of the methyl bromide released from a fumigation facility while producing no hazardous byproducts. The company plans to raise the destruction level to 95% within three years.

Value Recovery's technology has been granted the status of Best Available Control Technology (BACT) and is becoming recognized as the most economic and environmentally acceptable method for the continued use of methyl bromide.

Current Quarantine and Pre-shipment operations in ports around the US vent hundreds of thousands of pounds of methyl bromide directly into the atmosphere without any emissions controls. Under the US Clean Air Act, new sources of methyl bromide and other hazardous pollutants must evaluate emissions control technology before they can operate. Value Recovery believes that its technology will become the de-facto standard for methyl bromide emissions control.

Peter J. Joyce, President of Value Recovery says; "Up until the 1970's the chemical industry vented its pollutants directly into the atmosphere and up until the 1990's the same can be said for the automobile industry. We look at the introduction of this technology as a natural progression that will be used by those forward thinking agricultural companies who are truly dedicated to lessening their environmental footprint."

Value Recovery is an environmental research company focused on removing and destroying hazardous chemicals with its patented reactive separations technology. Besides destroying fumigants, the company has technology for destroying water soluble pollutants such as phenols, cyanides and acrylates. The company was founded in May, 2000.

Alameda Sixth Grade Scientists Help Save the Bay

Author: Alameda Community Learning Center
Dateline: Alameda, California (ALAMEDA, Calif.)  | Tue, 07 Dec 2010

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Sixth grade science students at the Alameda Community Learning Center will take on the roles of real-life environmental scientists this school year, thanks to a collaboration with Save the Bay and grant support from Bio-Rad.”

A R T I C L E:

Sixth grade science students at the Alameda Community Learning Center will take on the roles of real-life environmental scientists this school year, thanks to a collaboration with Save the Bay and grant support from Bio-Rad. Using the Pasco SPARK system of dataloggers to enable remote collection of pH, salinity, and ORP data, learners will conduct a geochemical and microbiological survey of two native plant restoration areas in the SF Bay.

The analysis will provide a map of pH, salinity, and oxidation/reduction potential, which will be used by the Save the Bay organization to select the optimal plants for each area. The final project results will be presented to Save the Bay in the spring of 2011, in the form of GIS constructed maps with embedded geochemical and microbiological data.

The Alameda Community Learning Center is located on San Francisco Bay, a short distance from Save the Bay's Damon Marsh native plant restoration areas. On a field trip to help plant native plants, students learned that the salinity and pH of the soil is influenced by tidal and rainfall patterns together with the flow of water from the nearby creek. As a result, it is hard to predict which plants will do well in any specific area.

Curious about whether they could assist in the plant restoration effort by creating a map of soil conditions that could be used to guide plant selection, ACLC Science Facilitator Milt Friedman and his class partnered with Save the Bay and applied for financial support from Bio-Rad, a Hercules, CA based company, to bring the project to life.

About the ACLC, Save the Bay and Bio-Rad:

The Alameda Community Learning Center (ACLC) is a top-ranked public charter school serving grades 6-12. A California Distinguished School, the ACLC offers project-based, self-directed learning in an innovative, technology-rich environment. The ACLC is a student, teacher and parent-led school.

Save The Bay's award-winning Watershed Education Programs offer middle and high school students and teachers environmental education experiences on the Bay and in their schools. These programs provide students and teachers with an awareness of the Bay, a connection between their daily lives and a local wetland, and a sense of responsibility for the Bay through active stewardship.

Bio-Rad manufactures and supplies life science research, healthcare, analytical chemistry, and other markets with products and systems used to separate complex chemical and biological materials and to identify, analyze, and purify their components. Bio-Rad's customers include hospitals, universities, major research institutions, and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. The Bio-Rad Science Grant is dedicated to promoting sustainable science projects in the classroom for years to come.

E-cigarettes are an alternative to tobacco cigarettes. In addition to being better for the overall environment and smokers, they are also easier on people's wallets.

"In many parts of the country, a pack of cigarettes is nearing $8.00 or more," says Larry Gershon, Green Smoke executive. "That's why more and more people are choosing e-cigarettes. Although the upfront cost is higher, the yearly savings are remarkable."

Seeks Input from Every U.S. State to Secretary of Agriculture

RIO GRANDE, P.R., July 15 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The National Urban & Community Forestry Advisory Council (NUCFAC) hosted a groundbreaking public forum in Puerto Rico on June 18, 2008 at the Gran Melia Hotel. "We gathered more than 40 experts and citizens from Guam, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and other tropical islands to share ideas, best practices and research to help us advise the Secretary of Agriculture on urgent issues facing tropical urban forests," said Joe Wilson, NUCFAC Council Chair.

"Despite the efforts of more than 20 state, federal, and private agencies, unwanted alien pests are entering Hawaii at an alarming rate - about 2 million times more rapid than the natural rate. In 1993, the federal Office of Technology Assessment declared Hawaii's alien pest species problem the worst in the nation," said to Teresa Trueman-Madriaga, Kaulunani Urban & Community Forestry Program Coordinator.

Protecting the Value of Tropical Urban Forests
With fifty-three percent of the U.S. population living in coastal areas, this land mass represents 17% of the total U.S. land mass and is vital to our country economically and for environmental sustainability.

"Our climate and lush green infrastructure requires the type of collective research and best management practices that comes from this type of collaborative exchange to insure we preserve our tropical urban forests," said Magaly Figueroa, U.S. Forest Service International Institute of Tropical Forestry.

This collaborative public forum set the stage for a cross-section of leaders to share issues impacting coastal areas, island ecosystems, effective public policy reform, and potentially increased funding ideas that address the complex issues impacting tropical forestry.

The Forum featured seven roundtable discussions on topics specifically impacting tropical forestry:
1. Invasive Species - Prevention & Control
2. Coastal Readiness & Shoreline Protection
3. Climate Change & Ecosystem Impacts
4. Ecco Tourism & Tropical Forests
5. Nurseries Standards & Production
6. Cultural practice, Assessment of Tropical Urban & Community Forestry Program
7. Accessing Research and Technology Transfer

This is a call to action and public input will continue to be recorded until September 1, 2008 as part of NUCFAC's 2008 recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture.

About NUCFAC
NUCFAC was created by Congress through the 1990 Farm Bill as an advisory council to the Secretary of Agriculture. The enabling legislation requires NUCFAC to develop a national urban and community forestry action plan, make recommendations regarding a challenge cost share program, produce annual reports, and make recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture regarding urban and community forestry.

APPLETON, Wis., May 28 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- According to a preservation group called PreserveCW, the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee, unless convinced otherwise, may sell an ecologically diverse camp property in Waushara County to commercial developers. Consideration of a sale has begun just five months after ceasing operation of Camp Webb at the Wautoma, Wisconsin property. Camp Webb had been a religiously-based camping program there since 1961. The camp property of 135 acres contains a diverse mixture of deciduous woods, pine woods, beachfront, swampland, grasslands and prairie fields.

The diocese's Executive Council discussed the possibility of sale in early May after receiving a report from diocesan officials who had met with a commercial developer to discuss potential development of condominiums. A formal vote to put the camp up for sale is the first agenda item for June 5th Executive Council meeting. After learning of the situation, PreserveCW, a group formed to preserve the camp, asked supporters to contact Bishop Steven Miller and Executive Council members to ask that they seriously consider non-commercial options for the camp before considering sale to commercial interests.

"We don't question any right of the Diocese to sell the camp" stated Matthew Payne, Chair of the PreserveCW Steering Committee and former Camp Webb board member, staff member and camper. "Our concern is the Diocese's fiduciary duty, especially as a church and not-for-profit corporation in the State of Wisconsin. To consider sale to commercial interests before giving due consideration to non-commercial options is both irresponsible and careless and may have possible legal ramifications. Until and unless the Diocese of Milwaukee has exhausted all avenues of non-commercial options, it should not consider sale of the camp to any commercial interest."

Steering Committee member Connie Ott who has been connected to the camp since 1966 is also a current member of the Executive Council. She noted that, "This ecologically sensitive land should be preserved for generations to come. Any hope for preservation would be destroyed by a sale to any commercial interest."

PreserveCW was also recently informed that a proposal it made to lease the property to resume camp operations was rejected categorically by the Diocese. In a letter dated May 14th, the Diocese provided the reason that it did not consider it in their best interest to lease to "any other group or organization."
