California Launches John Lennon ‘Imagine’ License Plate Program to Help End Hunger in California, One Plate at a Time

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) has commenced the pre-sale to put the iconic self-portrait image of John Lennon on California license plates which will help fund the state's food banks. The special license plate features the famous John Lennon self-portrait image and the slogan, "IMAGINE no hunger." Proceeds from sales will be administered by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and distributed to the California Association of Food Banks (CAFB) to be utilized throughout the state of California for food bank programs.

The plates are available for pre-order now, for both automobiles and motorcycles, at http://CaliforniaImagine.com/.

The John Lennon self-portrait image provides a powerful symbol of his humanitarian legacy, raising awareness to the need to address hunger in our state and providing an image that will promote significant funding to help end hunger in California.

The Imagine license plate launch brings together CDSS with its longtime hunger-fighting ally, CAFB, a membership organization representing 41 food banks throughout the state that collectively provide food to 6,000 community-based organizations and to 2 million Californians in need.

"Each license plate is another reminder that food insecurity is an everyday challenge for children and families across our state," says Todd Bland, Deputy Director of the Family Engagement and Empowerment Division with the California Department of Social Services (www.cdss.ca.gov). "This new license plate option allows people to financially support a supply of healthy food for hungry Californians."

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will begin the process of creating the program to issue the "Imagine No Hunger" license plates upon receipt of 7,500 pre-paid applications.

Auto Iron Brake Dust and High Blood Pressure: The ‘Moon Dust’ Link

KESWICK, Va. -- Did you know that every person has 50,000 miles of blood vessels that are exposed to deadly iron? This is the concept that will be addressed by William J. Rowe, M.D. at the upcoming Internal Medicine and Patient Care Conference, March 26-27, 2018 in Vienna, Austria.

The information he will be presenting was derived from his studies of moon walkers, Neil Armstrong and James Irwin, who brought deadly iron dust into the habitat on their space suits and inhaled it for at least three days until their return to Earth.

His compelling research is further substantiated by new evidence from the lunar landing missions that show dust from car and truck brakes, far from being just unsightly grime on wheels, may be a key factor in the global epidemic of high blood pressure. The findings suggest that inhaling brake dust, spewed into the air around roads, is a health hazard for ordinary people, just as it was for astronauts who landed on the moon.

So, just as astronauts inhaled moon dust (which bears striking similarities to iron brake dust) that clung to their space suits and developed heart problems, people today are inhaling airborne iron brake dust and suffering similar effects.

The latest evidence of this link, perhaps the most significant health lesson from the entire manned space program, appears in a follow-up letter to the editor, "Brake Iron Dust Inhalation Intensifying Hypertension," in the International Journal of Cardiology. It builds on much-overlooked hints, dating to a study in the New England Journal of Medicine, 2004; 351:1721-1730, which linked exposure to road traffic to the onset of a heart attack.

So, what does all this mean to the average person? Dr. Rowe says that people who run or bike outdoors are better off doing it indoors as they age because the risk to the heart is greater with urban pollution caused from iron brake dust.

And, since it has recently been determined by the American Heart Association that half of the U.S. population has hypertension, based on new criteria (130/80), Dr. Rowe believes that information regarding the adverse effects of iron brake dust contributing to hypertension must be promptly and widely disseminated.

"Until legislation is carried out to prevent iron brakes from being manufactured or until effective seals are made, we must offset the adverse effects which triggered the cardiovascular complications, particularly the severe hypertension of the moon walkers," Dr. Rowe says. "A high magnesium diet and well absorbed Mg supplements are warranted to reduce the iron's toxicity."

A colleague of Dr. Rowe's who read his first paper on the hazards of brake iron dust, said, "This is the clearest and most compelling explanation of an environmental hazard that I can recall."

Previously, Dr. Rowe has presented this concept at the Innovate Biotech 2017 conference in Brisbane, Australia and will also be presenting at the 10th Annual International Congress of Cardiology-2018 on November 28-30, 2018, in Rome, Italy.

Deacon Jones Chrysler operations resume after driver crashes into building

SMITHFIELD, N.C. -- Police in Smithfield are still working with the Johnson County District Attorney's Office to determine what led a man to drive his truck through the side of the building at Deacon Jones Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram on Tuesday, December 26. The incident occurred at 1109 N Brightleaf Blvd. in Smithfield.

Early reports said the man was upset over routine manufacture recalls on his Ram Truck which he purchased from the dealership in 2014. But a spokesman for Deacon Jones said that there was no record of this individual having ever had his car serviced at Deacon Jones from the time he took ownership.

Richie Brady, a Chief Operating Officer for Deacon Jones stated, "Upon review, we learned that the gentleman was having his truck regularly serviced at a nearby facility. When he finally returned to us on Tuesday, we gladly offered him some options to address his concerns. He nevertheless seemed generally upset as he left and the next thing we knew his vehicle had breached the side of our building. Thank goodness it came to a stop inside our facility before it might have become more serious. We are very grateful that nobody was injured as a result of his behavior."

"We quickly had the damage to the building repaired and have resumed regular business. We are fully cooperating with officials in their investigation," Brady concluded.
