Synergy Online Registration Now Serving Nearly One Million Students with Selection by Beaverton School District

MESA, Ariz. -- Edupoint(R) Educational Systems, creator of the industry-leading Synergy(R) Education Platform for K-12 student information, learning management and assessment has been selected by Beaverton School District to implement the company's Synergy Online Registration solution. As a fully integrated component of Synergy Education Platform, Synergy Online Registration eliminates the need to integrate data, synchronize multiple systems, or manually move records by automatically creating a complete, real-time enrollment record within Synergy.

Beaverton School District, located just outside of the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area, supports over 41,000 students across 51 campuses. Already a Synergy customer, the district required a solution that would fully integrate with their existing Synergy Student Information System. The district selected Synergy Online Registration based on their longstanding partnership with Edupoint, and also on the solution's strong feature set and its ability to increase the speed and efficiency of the registration process to free up administrative staff for other tasks.

"Beaverton School District expressed a strong desire for a solution that would simplify the school registration process for parents while allowing the district to maintain complete, accurate and secure student records, and Synergy Online Registration was able to meet those requirements," says Rob Wilson, President and Chief Innovation Officer for Edupoint. "Just as important, Synergy Online Registration provides flexibility for the district to customize the solution to meet their individual needs. We are proud to partner with a district that realizes the importance - and value - of a fully-integrated education platform to manage all aspects of student and instructional data. We look forward to working together to further develop the features and functionality of Synergy Online Registration for all of our current and future Synergy clients."

Synergy Online Registration currently serves about one million students nationwide by simplifying school registration for parents and administrative staff. Parents access the online registration screens directly from the ParentVUE(R) portal where they can also view student assignments, test scores, and other classroom happenings - with the ability, at the district's discretion, to upload verification documents and save a trip to the district office. For administrators, Synergy Online Registration eliminates the need for costly printed packets and automates the processing of registration data built-in address verification, filters, and flags to accelerate the review and decision-making process. Recent enhancements include new customization options to increase district control over the registration process and improved usability features for easier data entry and review.

Oak Hills Local Schools Green Team lays the groundwork for zero-waste cafeterias

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- Oak Hills Local Schools will start off the 2016-2017 school year with zero-waste tables in all of its cafeterias, thanks in part to the groundwork laid by the district's Green Team, a student-led conservation and sustainability group sponsored by Energy Optimizers, USA.

The zero-waste tables will help each building minimize how much trash goes to the landfill by enabling students and staff to separate their waste into compost, recyclables and trash. The idea originated with Oak Hills teachers Debbie Stallo and Michele Taylor, who also help guide the district's Green Team.

"Throughout the year, our Green Team has really helped our district focus its efforts related to energy conservation and sustainability practices into educational opportunities for the entire student body," said Todd Yohey. "The students on our Green Team have not only learned volumes about energy conservation and sustainability principles, they have shared their knowledge with others while developing resume-building leadership skills."

The Green Team is a component of the district's $4 million energy enhancement project with Energy Optimizers, USA. The project will improve the comfort, control and reliability of the district's HVAC and lighting systems while significantly reducing operational costs. As part of the project, Energy Optimizers, USA, sponsored the development of the Green Team to engage students, staff and the community in developing, promoting and implementing numerous energy savings and sustainability programs throughout the district.

The addition of the zero-waste tables capped off an active year for the Green Team.

Last June, Taylor accompanied four middle school girls to Columbus to participate in the AEGIS Energy Bike program, during which the girls built and learned how to use an energy demonstration bike. Also in June, Stallo participated in the three-day Ohio Energy Project Energy Sources Tour, where she toured AEP corporate offices, a school with solar panels, a wind turbine, a coal-fired power plant and the Ohio State energy-related research facilities.

In October, a group of Green Team students participated in the Ohio Energy Project Leadership Summit. The leadership summit is designed to teach energy-related activities to students so they can return to their home districts and share those activities with classes and groups.

And in May, the Green Team placed 10th overall out of 100 competitors at the Caring for Our Watershed competition at the Cincinnati Zoo.

"We are proud of our students and thankful for the opportunities made available to us through the creation of our Green Team," said Todd Yohey.

Audition now for youth music academy programs in California and Spain

FORT BELVOIR, Va. -- Building on the success of its 2015 partnership, CAMMO, the Center for American Military Music Opportunities, is again joining forces with The Collective Sound (TCS) youth music program to offer an exciting summer experience for two children of active duty military personnel. CAMMO is hoping to send one student to TCS' Costa Mesa, Calif., camp and another to the camp in Barcelona, Spain. CAMMO is now accepting audition videos through June 21, 2016.

The summer academy is designed to give youth ages 12-18 an authentic music experience in writing, performance, recording and touring through the vehicle of rock, electronic and popular music, and to challenge the current boundaries of music education. Young musicians from all over the globe attend the annual program. CAMMO partnered with TCS in 2015 to send a child to the organization's California camp and is hoping to expand its reach to the Barcelona camp for 2016 for the military children station in Europe.

Academy students are divided into bands that work together to write and rehearse original material daily in preparation for recording studio time and live performances. Participants will also shoot a music video with their band. Those attending the Barcelona camp will have the added opportunity to learn basic Catalan and Castilian Spanish if they choose (English is the program's primary language). They will also enjoy local flamenco and jazz music, visit Mediterranean beaches, explore the architecture of Gaudi, and visit historic landmarks and sites.

For more information on the California and Barcelona curricula and schedules, click http://thecollectivesound.com.

Nia Fajota, CAMMO's 2015 camp participant, attended TCS' California program. At age 13 and as an only child whose parents are both active duty military, Nia established lifelong friendships at the camp. "This isn't an experience you'd want to miss," she said. You can check out photos from TCS camps at https://instagram.com/thecollectivesound/.

How to apply:

Children of active duty military personnel based in the U.S. or abroad are encouraged to submit a video of no more than 90 seconds that showcases their talent, to kidscamp@cammomusic.org no later than June 21, 2001.

A review board consisting of representatives from TCS and CAMMO will evaluate each video and select a winner and one alternate winner for each camp. Cost for the three-week experience, including travel expenses, is approximately $4,095, which will be covered for the selected students through a special CAMMO scholarship. There are also sponsorship opportunities still available.

If you have any questions, please contact Cathie@cammomusic.org, and if you would like to know more about CAMMO's other music programs for children of active duty military personnel, including the popular CAMMO KIDS program, go to their web site at www.cammomusic.org.

Edupoint Selected by Maine DOE as Sole Provider of State Level Student Information and Reporting System

MESA, Ariz. -- Edupoint(R) Educational Systems, creator of the industry-leading Synergy(R) Education Platform for K-12 student information and learning management, has been selected by the Maine Department of Education (Maine DOE) to provide a State Level Student Information and Reporting System (SSIRS).

As the sole award recipient from a field of seven competitive bidders, the Synergy State solution will replace the state's existing Infinite Campus State Edition with a scalable student information database to aggregate data from all school administrative units (SAUs), using Ed-Fi to collect data on Maine's 180,000 students for state and federal reporting mandated by the state's Department of Education.

"Maine's student data represents one of the cornerstones for the Department of Education as we try to make informed decisions on improving educational results," says Maine's Education Data Manager, Brian Snow. "The Synergy product promises better control of the quality of information collected, which can then ensure better decisions."

The Synergy State solution will provide Maine with a centralized database that connects SAU local data systems with the state's student data collection process, improving overall reporting functionality and the quality and accuracy of student data. Districts that do not have local data systems to enter data may log into the Synergy State system directly and input data using any supported web browser. Student demographics, enrollment, health, assessment, CTE, and special education data will be submitted by SAUs through the securely hosted Synergy State solution, where query and reporting tools will allow the state to access, display, and analyze data in real time.

Under terms of the contract, SAUs have the option to license the Synergy Education Platform directly with the Department at pre-negotiated rates without needing to go through the bid process. The Synergy Education Platform unites distinct K-12 data management functions in one fully-integrated solution, creating system-wide data connections that help improve administrative processes and learning outcomes without the hassle or cost of third-party system integrations. Along with the industry's richest student information system feature set, Synergy includes comprehensive assessment, learning and curriculum management, analytics, online registration, role-based mobile applications, and tools to help ensure IEP compliance.

"Edupoint is pleased to provide Maine with a technologically advanced solution for their State Level Student Information and Reporting System," says Rob Wilson, Edupoint's President and Chief Innovation Officer. "It is an honor to partner with a state that values the importance of harnessing both student and instructional data to help transform the way schools and districts operate. We look forward to developing a longstanding relationship with the Maine Department of Education, and to welcoming districts throughout the state to the Synergy family."

The contract is currently awaiting final approval from the Bureau of Purchases. Maine SAUs are scheduled to begin reporting data to the state via the Synergy State solution in July 2017.

Partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, expected to net $88K savings annually for Ripley Union Lewis Huntington Local Schools

TIPP CITY, Ohio -- Ripley Union Lewis Huntington Local Schools has partnered with Energy Optimizers, USA, to improve the district's energy efficiency performance for an expected guaranteed savings of nearly $88,000 annually.

The $883,000 project includes energy savings enhancements at the elementary, middle and high school buildings. Upgrades to existing building automation systems and advanced energy management programming will be key components to the project. Numerous lighting upgrades to both the interior and exterior of each facility will significantly reduce the electrical load district-wide. Funding is provided through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make these cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers. The project is expected to begin soon and be completed in September 2016.

"We will replace outdated, inefficient systems with state-of-the-art energy efficient technology for a significant savings to our taxpayers," said Treasurer Jeff Rowley. "We will not need to request money from our community to fund this project, and the savings will pay back project costs in less than 10 years."

"Of even greater importance, our students will benefit from better lighting and an improved, more comfortable learning environment. We will also be able to reduce the amount of tax dollars that we spend on utility bills and related maintenance costs over the long term," added Superintendent Linda Naylor.

In total, Energy Optimizers, USA will:
* Replace interior and exterior lighting with LED lights
* Upgrade the district's building automation system with advanced energy conservation technology
* Implement building envelope sealing and weatherization
* Install energy-saving features in the kitchen
* Install a 1kW educational solar array at Ripley High School.

"This project is an investment in the community and the future," said Greg Smith, Energy Optimizers, USA, president and CEO. "The district is taking greater control over its budget in relation to utility and maintenance costs, and taxpayers benefit by knowing more dollars will go where they count-into the classroom."

This project has come to the attention of the Ohio Legislature.
"It is important that we do whatever we are able to in order to help preserve our state's natural resources," said State Senator Joe Uecker. "The partnership between Ripley Union Lewis Huntington Local Schools and Energy Optimizers, USA, is a great step in helping ensure that we are protecting these resources while giving back and improving the community for our future generations."
