Award-Winning Radio Personality Sheena Metal Celebrates Four Years at LA Talk Radio

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Countering the rapid turnover of 21st century radio personalities, a four-year on-air run is a milestone, especially when it keeps on running. Veteran radio host and personality Sheena Metal recently celebrated her 1,000th broadcast by interviewing LA Talk Radio station owner/founder Sam Hasson. The celebration was a ramp-up to the anniversary of her daily program “The Sheena Metal Experience” which turned four on January 7th. The show is one of the station’s top-rated programs.

“We are delighted to be celebrating Sheena’s four-year-anniversary with LA Talk Radio,” says Hasson. “Since she launched her daily radio show ‘The Sheena Metal Experience’ in January 2009, Sheena has grown tremendously in every way and built a respectable audience that is loyal and devoted. We anticipate more great entertainment and intriguing guests in the coming year. LA Talk Radio is proud to call Sheena Metal one of our own.”

The admiration is returned by listeners and guests. More than 1,350 different guests have contributed to the addictive landscape of “The Sheena Metal Experience” including Margaret Cho, Howard Jones, Marc Colombo, Stacy Keach, Barbara Eden, Carol Channing, and Joanna Angel.

Metal kicked off her 18-year radio career by lighting up the Los Angeles towers on KIEV 870 AM, co-hosted by actor/musician Robbie Rist of “The Brady Bunch.” The show became “Sheena Metal After Midnight” on the FM dial. Later, she co-hosted with Nastyman on KLSX, where the shock jock dubbed her “The Queen of Observation.” Next came a stint on CBS anchoring evenings on the then-Howard Stern affiliate, 97.1 The FM Talk Station (KLSX).

“This has been a dream come true for me,” comments Metal. “The Sheena Metal Experience is the show I’ve always wanted to do and I’m thrilled with its success. It’s amazing to work with a radio visionary like Sam Hasson at LA Talk Radio. I couldn’t ask for better guests and I love my listeners.”

Metal’s impact on the talk radio world has been referenced in many periodicals including the Los Angeles Times. She was included in the talk radio expose “Sounds in the Dark,” the book by Michael C. Keith, with a forward by radio legend Larry King.

While “The Sheena Metal Experience” airs daily on LA Talk Radio from 5-7pm PST, Metal also co-hosts two weekly talk programs — the paranormal hit “Haunted Playground” with co-host psychic/medium Danielle Egnew (Tues 3-5pm PST) and the spicy “Two Chicks Talkin’ Politics” alongside actress/activist Susan Olsen (“The Brady Bunch”) airing Mondays 7-8pm PST. For music lovers, Sheena Metal can be found hosting “Music Highway” on Wednesdays from 3-5pm PST.

For more information about Sheena Metal, visit her page on the LA Talk Radio website or ‘sheenametal’ on Facebook or Twitter.

DesignWise Medical and Cnicus LLC Awarded $25,000 Grant to Develop Pediatric Feeding Tube Locating Device

Author: DesignWise Medical Inc.
Dateline: Minneapolis, Minnesota (MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.)  | Tue, 08 Jan 2013

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Pediatric non-profit, DesignWise Medical, Inc., in conjunction with Cnicus LLC (Chicago, Ill.) has been awarded a $25,000 grant by the Atlanta Pediatric Device Consortium to continue the development of a medical device used to confirm the correct placement of feeding tubes in infants and children.”

A R T I C L E:

Pediatric non-profit, DesignWise Medical, Inc., in conjunction with Cnicus LLC (Chicago, Ill.) has been awarded a $25,000 grant by the Atlanta Pediatric Device Consortium to continue the development of a medical device used to confirm the correct placement of feeding tubes in infants and children.

Tube feeding, although commonly used in clinical settings, is not without risk. Incorrect placement of a feeding tube into the trachea (rather than correctly into the esophagus) can result in filling the lungs with liquid feeding formula, and can lead to serious medical complications and even death.

Some studies have shown that feeding tubes are incorrectly placed up to 55 percent of the time, and currently the principal method for confirming correct placement is with an X-ray which in the home setting is not an option.

The SurTube(TM) feeding tube has an externally communicating tip whose location in a child's body can be determined with a simple external detector, without the need for a confirming X-ray and its inherent radiation exposure.

"This grant is incredibly important to the continued development of this much needed device for children and will allow us to refine the design and demonstrate its feasibility," says DesignWise Medical founder and CEO, Brad Slaker. "Additionally, this is the first large project-specific grant DesignWise Medical has received and represents an important milestone for us. This grant further validates the unique approach we are taking to develop the needed medical products for children through a non-profit, volunteer-based business model."

The initial concept for the SurTube(TM) device was invented by pediatric nurse Kathryn Waitzman who also founded Cnicus, LLC to develop the SurTube device and bring it to market.

The Atlanta Pediatric Device Consortium (APDC), created in 2010, is an FDA-funded group of Atlanta-based organizations whose mission is to "enhance the lives of children through the development of novel pediatric medical devices, which are both safe and effective."

About DesignWise Medical:

DesignWise Medical (www.designwisemedical.org) is a Minnesota-based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2008 whose mission is to develop medical device and product solutions to children's unmet medical needs. It is a volunteer-based organization funded entirely by charitable contributions, foundation and corporate grants.

Children need devices that are safe, effective and sized appropriately for them. Technology already exists that could address many children's unmet medical needs, improving outcomes and quality of life and ultimately reducing health care costs. However, these markets are small, making it difficult for traditional medical device companies to achieve an adequate ROI.

DesignWise Medical is able to develop pediatric devices for approximately one-fifth (1/5) the cost of the traditional for-profit approach. Through the sustained involvement of pediatric clinicians, parents, sponsors, volunteers and students, DesignWise Medical is able to identify, create and deliver collaborative solutions to this underserved population.

To date, more than 280 volunteers have donated over 30,000 hours of their time working on ten active pediatric device projects. DesignWise Medical has sponsored 32 student projects at nine colleges and universities, providing learning opportunities for higher education student volunteers, helping them to succeed in today's competitive medical technology job market.

Virginia Public Schools Now Have Access to the Synergy Education Platform

Author: Edupoint Educational Systems
Dateline: Mesa, Arizona (MESA, Ariz.)  | Tue, 08 Jan 2013

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Edupoint Educational Systems, a leading student information system (SIS) solutions provider to the national K-12 market, has been awarded a contract to implement its Synergy Education Platform for the Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) after an extensive evaluation and RFP process.”

A R T I C L E:

Edupoint Educational Systems, a leading student information system (SIS) solutions provider to the national K-12 market, has been awarded a contract to implement its Synergy Education Platform for the Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) after an extensive evaluation and RFP process.

One of the largest school districts in Virginia and perennial recipient of recognition for excellence in its educational programs and capabilities, CCPS is looked to by smaller districts in the state seeking guidance for their educational programs and technology.

In that regard, CCPS's Synergy purchase agreement includes an option for all Virginia public schools to license the complete Synergy solution suite under its agreement.

Chesterfield County Public Schools is the fifth largest school district in Virginia with 62 K-12 schools serving more than 59,000 students. In looking to replace its obsolete Student Information System, CCPS had to address integration issues with dozens of ancillary enterprise applications that share its student data in addition to replacing and advancing that system's basic functionality. The new system would have to be Web-based and include capabilities for teacher-student-parent collaboration and electronic grade reporting.

Synergy Education Platform exceeded every expectation - and more. The core system - Synergy(R) Student Information System - provides the market's most innovative SIS functionality in a manner that allows a district to customize the solution to fit its unique needs. The Synergy ParentVUE(TM) and StudentVUE(TM) modules establish a robust web portal through which teachers can communicate class assignments, provide study materials, and securely share progress reports and term grades. The TeacherVUE(TM) Gradebook empowers teachers to excel and students to achieve with classroom and curriculum management that organizes and informs instruction.

Other Synergy modules licensed by Chesterfield added more value. Synergy(R) Special Education (SE) provides industry-leading management of special education programs and Individual Education Plans. This web-based solution delivers instant access to the complete student case file and in-process documents to every team member from anywhere, maintaining student confidentiality at the highest level of security and complying with all state and federal regulations and reporting requirements. Together the Synergy SIS and Synergy SE solutions create the most powerful education management platform available in the market today.

Chesterfield County Public Schools will implement the Synergy solutions in a phased approach based on their preferred implementation timeline. To learn more about Synergy Education Platform and the CCPS-negotiated License Agreement by other Virginia school districts, visit www.edupoint.com.

About Edupoint Educational Systems:

For thirty years, the leadership of Edupoint Educational Systems has been singularly focused on providing well designed, technologically advanced student information management systems that empower every K-12 stakeholder with the tools they need to do their part to help improve student achievement. The Synergy(R) Education Platform begins with the strongest student information system in K-12 - Synergy(R) SIS - leverages collaborative tools to improve communication, and delivers actionable information for instructional decisions at all levels. These integrated solutions, including Synergy(R) Special Education - a comprehensive special education data management system - are used by thousands of schools to manage millions of students.
