Dr. Lauren Goodall (PsyD) Releases Her Ground-Breaking Self-Help Book, ‘Bipolar is Not an STD’

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Dr. Lauren Goodall (PsyD), releases her ground-breaking self-help book, "Bipolar is not an STD" (ISBN: 978-1543975581), Dr. Goodall designed the book around getting people better faster. She wanted a book that could be finished over the course of a weekend; not something that would take a long period of time to plow through.

There are distinctive compasses in the book. "People always confuse Personality disorders, with mood problems. That's like confusing north from west. You won't end up in the right place; confusing the two," says Goodall. Instead of talking about the usual in relationships, she goes beyond affairs and relationship screw-ups that people don't recognize. "There are a million ways to screw up a relationship besides affairs."

In further conversation with Dr. Goodall, she named her book, "Bipolar is not An STD." In her translation of the title - "Too many people look at the word Bipolar and attach stigma that isn't warranted. I've spent a full career working with these people. Bipolar can be confusing more than it's hard. Ineffective symptom reporting, and lack of treatment is hard!"

Dr. Goodall looks to drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to recognize mood symptoms, and get better diagnosis; rather than the current research-based average of 6 years.

The reason, she believes, this number is so high, is because people cannot self-report their symptoms well, and "bad diagnosis information is a waste of time, money, and quality of life. Good therapy helps a lot, but a lack of understanding medical underpinnings and how they coordinate with the Psychological is a big piece of missing information. Both are critical for getting the job done."

"Bipolar is not an STD," is currently released and available in softcover thru her website, https://drlaurengoodall.com/. E-book is available thru Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other major book retailers.

Softcover will be available to retailers on August 5, 2019. Dr. Goodall is available for interview by contacting her via the above website.

Legendary Black Arts Movement Author Horace Mungin Celebrates 50 Year Career Anniversary with Re-Release of 10 Literary Works

RIDGEVILLE, S.C. -- It was 1968 when literary giant Horace Mungin penned his first published work, "Dope Hustler's Jazz," part one of a two volume set of anti-drug poetry. "Dope Hustler's Jazz" was the beginning of a writing career that started in the Black Arts Movement and would extend over five decades of literary contributions. Horace Mungin Books is celebrating 50 years of intellectual success with the re-release of ten books, written between 1968 through to 2018 - including his latest, "Swing, Hard Bop, Bop & Bebop." The full collection of Mungin's work provides a distinct and insightful perspective into the heart of African American culture and world views.

Mungin's full collection includes a dozen titles: "Dope Hustler's Jazz" 1968; "Now, See Here Homes" 1969; "How Many N**** Make Half a Dozen" 1970; "Sleepy Willie Talks About Life" 1991; "Sleepy Willie Sings the Blues" 2001; "San Juan Hill" 2006; "Subway: After the Irish" 2008, "Poetic Portraits: The African People of San Juan Hill" 2010; "A Different Point of View" 2013; "The Devil Beats His Wife" 2013; "Truth & Absurdities: Social and Political Commentary" 2014; "Or Does It Explode" 2016 and "Swing, Hard Bop, Bop & Bebop" 2018. The author is offering a free shipping special on autographed copies purchased directly at Horace Mungin Books and all titles are available in paperback and eBook at Amazon.com.

"It is my hope that the re-release of my past works incites, instigates and awakens a deep yearning for true freedom that I feel is lost with today's hustle and bustle," expresses Mungin, a former New Yorker now living in Ridgeville, SC in the Charleston, Lowcountry area. "I consider my books, whether poetry or prose, lyrical Afrocentricity. I have always given voice to the oppressed, providing what I consider a liberation patois where freedom is the goal. My books are written in that universal dialect which is the weapon of the powerless that annuls one's ability to feign ignorance. These books were written to satisfy the desire for an indisputable African American presence and greater knowledge of that existence in literature and in American life."

The ten re-released titles traverse timelines, characters and plots. In 1980, Mungin started a syndicated column called "Sleepy Willie." These columns gave birth to two Sleepy Willie books. Sleepy Willie, the protagonist in both "Sleepy Willie Talks About Life" and "Sleepy Willie Sings the Blues" is a seemingly whimsical old man whose wisdom derives by way of his longevity and experience.

Mungin's works range from the African American transformation of the New York City Transit work force in the 1960's in "Subway: After the Irish," to the fictional "...Or Does It Explode", a cautionary look at where injustice could lead Black Americans. On the other hand, "The Devil Beats His Wife" is a series of shorts set in the New South, chronicling the first and second generation of black and white people pushing against old racial barriers as they establish the new norm in attitudes.

"San Juan Hill" presents the coming-of-age memoir of a young boy growing up in the Amsterdam projects in mid-town Manhattan during the 1950's on the crest of the Civil Right Movement. With "Truth & Absurdities," Mungin presents essays that chronicle his family history in South Carolina and New York City while intertwining defense of the Barack Obama presidency.

A companion book to "San Juan Hill," "Poetic Portrait: The African People of San Juan Hill," provides sketches of the author's neighbors who lived in the Lincoln Square community, from the famed Thelonious Monk to William Walker, the prototype for Sleepy Willie. "A Different Point of View" presents fifty years of Mungin's Black Liberation era poetry arranged in a manner that allows the reader to trace racial progress from the 1960's to 2015.

"Swing, Hard Bop, Bop & Bebop," Mungin's most recent title, and the pinnacle of his vast library of work, is a celebration of the bebop era of jazz music with a collection of biographical prose and poetry, exploring over 60 of the greatest jazz artists of swing and bebop music ever assembled. The Music Department at Allen University, in Columbia, SC, produced "Manteca" a Bebop Jazz Revue based on the book! Mungin's magazine, Black Forum which he started in 1970 and published for twelve years, is also part of a permanent exhibition at the National Museum for African American History and Culture about the Black Arts Movement.

Mungin's vast catalogue of writing paints a vivid scenario of Black life in America spanning several decades. New Visual Survey Shows Over 27 percent Occupied with Devices

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- More than a quarter of people in America's public places are somehow occupied with digital devices. That's according to a new visual survey by The Technoskeptic. The magazine examined behavior at various urban crossroads across the country, categorizing different modes of digital distraction. The results make up the cover story of their summer issue, available nationally beginning June 24.

Overall, 17,102 people were tallied in 27 locations within 18 metro areas from coast to coast. Out of those, 27.86% were seen holding, looking at, listening to, or speaking into a device. The most distracted places in the survey were the downtowns of Detroit and Salt Lake City, clocking in with device rates of 49.15% and 46.20% respectively. The least occupied with devices? San Francisco's Chinatown neighborhood at 8.46% and El Paso's El Segundo Barrio at 11.29%.

The survey appears in an article about the smartphone's effect on public space in Issue 3 of The Technoskeptic. Author Mo Lotman suggests that the smartphone's vice-grip on human attention and its attendant shattering of the commons are the unspectacular, but ultimately more harmful, repercussions of a culture lost to tech addiction.

Just don't try to read it on your phone while walking down the street - the article is only available in print.

Aaron Ozee Sends Bestselling Children’s Book ‘Regulus’ Into Space

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Space is an uncharted frontier equipped with mysteries beyond our understanding of what is or will ever be possible. Reaching outward for millions of miles from our planet, space may seem to be a dangerous vacuum to most but a bountiful expanse for those with opportunistic sight. Aaron Ozee, bestselling author of notable children's book, "Regulus" (ISBN: 9781387010790), has made waves in the realm of literature achieving wonders using his tyrannical king character to impact the imaginations of young readers around the globe.

From claiming bestseller status only a few weeks following original publication to being endorsed by favorited celebrities, "Regulus" carries momentum unlike any other titles on the market. Ozee knew the sky was the limit for his prized creation, or so he assumed, until inspiration struck encouraging him to explore options to send a printed copy of his infamous tale above the clouds to drift blissfully among the glistening stars.

Conducting extensive searches around the web gave Ozee the appropriate insight on how tricky sending objects into space can be using professional technologies let alone collecting materials required for achieving such a feat on your own.

After being quoted by organizations which can arrange flights using elite techniques for gargantuan sums, Ozee remained discouraged only to find a motivated space enthusiast, Thomas Niedballa, who had the means of turning his dream into reality. Niedballa is the founder of Orbit Pics, a private institution holding expertise in the art of high-altitude photography, which uses weather balloon devices to send payloads into the furthest extent of the atmosphere.

Ozee partnered with Niedballa shortly after their introduction to launch a printed copy of "Regulus" into space near his residence in the Province of Toronto in Ontario, Canada (from the shores of Lake Huron) on June 18, 2019.

Outfitted with a 4K Go Pro camera along with a quality GPS tracker, Niedballa coasted the printed copy of "Regulus" into the upper atmosphere reaching 100,000 feet. Upon the weather balloon exploding once it peaked at maximum elevation, the payload hurdled back to Earth where it was retrieved by Niedballa not far away from the launch grounds. Breathtaking footage was exported showcasing the attempt and the stunning beauty immortalized behind "Regulus" within the never-ending darkened void.

Aside from this attempt being a brilliant marketing stunt for sharing the words Ozee has written for developing minds, "Regulus" is the "First American Children's Book Sent Into Space" as well as the "First Self-Published Book Sent Into Space."

Lulu Press, the largest self-publishing firm in the world, has released manuscripts crafted by Ozee since 2011 with "Regulus" marked as his eleventh published title.

"Achieving something that humans once viewed as science fiction is more than a milestone in my life that will be held close to my heart for the remainder of my days but making history that will rattle across the ages is something far greater," says Ozee.

"My sincere appreciation goes to my family, colleagues, friends, teachers, publisher, and beloved for having supported my writing since that very first moment when my pen was pressed on paper," Ozee concludes.

More information:

Copies of "Regulus" may be purchased from https://www.aaronozee.com/ or mainstream retail outlets.

Historical Author Sufia Giza Uncovers Her Ancient Moundbuilders Ancestry with New Book Release and Summer Tour

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- For historical film documentarian and author Sufia Giza, genetic testing took her down a rabbit hole of research that has spanned 30 years, uncovering intriguing evidence that not only affects her personally, but also deeply impacts the narrative of this nation as a whole. Her new book, HeTePu Publications' "Moundbuilders of Ancient America: A Legacy Reclaimed," self-published in conjunction with the notable Black Classic Press, is not only the story of her Black Amer-Indian ancestors, traced to a heritage of Mississippian Moundbuilders who were chiefdoms and queendoms, but also a more deeply complex and revolutionary reveal.

With the recent upsurge of interest in genetic testing, many Americans are eager to learn more about their ancestral roots, however, most pause their exploration after the initial DNA results come back.

A paradigm changer for true history buffs, in "Moundbuilders of Ancient America: A Legacy Reclaimed," Giza traces the legacy of her roots to a people who lived in America and Meso-America between 50,000 BC and the present, as the original African descended Ameri-Indians, the authentic indigenous Native Americans, that most people have never heard of before. Giza will embark on a book tour this summer, that further espouses her findings, with stops in Columbia, Chicago, Los Angeles and Atlanta.

Ancient Americans were called Moundbuilders because they built monumental manmade, earthen buildings, similar to the pyramids in both Egypt and Mexico. With DNA results that trace directly back to the original Mississippian Moundbuilders, Giza was overwhelmed to discover direct lineage to the Queen of Cofetazque (Lady of Cifitachikee), who was kidnapped by and escaped from the 16th-century Spanish explorer and conquistador Hernando de Soto. In his journal, de Soto described the queen as "having the richest Grand Lodge I have seen in all of Peru or Mexico." Another ancestral link led her to a warrior by the name of Tuskaloosa, who de Soto also took hostage and later killed on his 1540 journey, when he arrived in Alabama.

But Giza's most surprising reveals were the similarities she began to notice in her research between the cultures of Africa, the ancient Mississippi Delta and Mexico. Her in-depth exploration and research, spanning artifacts, museum exhibitions, textbooks and interviews have led to discovering what she believes is a well-hidden fact, that America's original indigenous people were African migrants who arrived in America first, pre-Columbus and before the Red American Indian.

"As an Indigenous American person in search of my ancestral culture, I have been grasping at straws from biased textbooks, survey reports, and outdated scientific paradigms in archeology and anthropology that obscure what is really true. So now, with my book, I have worked to find these hidden linkages to my ancestors, to discover who the original native Americans are, so I can document their past, in order to have a better understanding of myself, and others. Interestingly, after tracking all these generations of my folks being in North America, I am still 90% Sub-Saharan African. My opinion is, with my family still having so much African heritage, my ancestors had to have been African Native Americans, who migrated, from Africa, through Siberia in 50,000 BC," espouses Giza.

Sufia Giza is a Gullah-Geechee artist from Columbia, South Carolina, who is a native of Riverside, CA. Giza has three degrees, including a master's in Bi-Lingual/Cross-Cultural Educational Counseling. She has written two poetry chapbooks and produced five documentaries, including, "SANKOFA Study: An Ethnobotanical Research Project on Medicinal Herbs of Tobago, WI.," "Toledo District Eco-Park: An Eco-Cultural Tour of Southern Belize," "REGGAE MILITIS: The Bizness of Reggae Music" and "SANKOFA Study II: Medicinal Herbs of Trinidad and Tobago." Most recently Giza completed the third part in her series on medicinal herbs, "Ethnobotany of the African Diaspora: South Carolina to Trinidad & Tobago."

"Moundbuilders of Ancient America: A Legacy Reclaimed" is a fascinating historical resource. Giza lays bare, with meticulous detail, findings that connect the dots to not only her personal lineage, but to a past that has been painted over for centuries.

Book tour stops include:

- Columbia, SC at the Pan-African Cultural Festival on June 22, 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Robert Mills House & Gardens

- Chicago, IL at the Soul Yoga Fest, July 6, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Fuller Park

- Los Angeles, CA at the Leimert Park Book Fair, August 24, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza

Actress, Model, and Recovery Specialist Dona Speir Releases Revealing Autobiography

LOS GATOS, Calif. -- Model, actress, and recovery coach Dona Speir announces the publication of her autobiographical memoir, "Naked Truth: The Fall and Rise of Dona Speir" (ISBN: 978-1939282422). Co-written with well-known author/journalist Chris Epting, this memoir reveals the hard truths, personal struggles, and eventual triumph over abuse, sexual exploitation, and addiction that have shaped Speir's life.

From all outward appearances, Dona Speir had an idyllic childhood growing up in Southern California in the 1960s. She was talented, beautiful, and raised in a middle-class home-but this happy façade concealed an often-chaotic world of physical and emotional abuse.

After Bill Cosby was convicted, Dona realized the time was right to write this book. "I want women to know that it's OK to speak out and stand up without guilt and shame," she said. "I didn't know how to say 'no' back then because at 16 years old, I wanted to feel loved, accepted and feel worthy."

During her teens, Dona's life seemed to move in two directions at once. While she pursued success as a model, she found herself the victim of predatory grooming (by celebrity Bill Cosby at the age of 16), sexual manipulation and abuse. And though her career moved forward, her emotional life was in disarray. Just 4 months after her 18th birthday, Dona checked into a drug rehab. She'd already been abusing alcohol and pills and had recently begun freebasing cocaine. Despite this early attempt at recovery, her alcohol and drug use would continue, on and off, until she was 23.

Sobriety allowed Dona the strength and support she needed to grapple with the demons that had tormented her since childhood. It also allowed her the stability to continue modeling and to pursue a successful acting career.

Since conquering her own addiction thirty years ago, Dona has dedicated her life to helping others. In 2003, she was selected as 'Woman of the Year' by the Yellowstone Foundation, a non-profit Women's Recovery Group of Homes. And in 2005, she founded Lynn House, one of the first no-charge Recovery/Detox centers for women in California. From 2004 to 2006, Dona served on the Board of the W.I.N. Foundation (Women in Need)-a non-profit recovery, education, and empowerment program.

In her riveting book "Naked Truth," Dona recounts her story as an abuse survivor and addict and shares the insights she has gained from recovery. She details how the lessons she's learned in recovery assist her daily in helping others through what for many is the greatest challenge of their lives-conquering addiction. Whether it's coping with family, or just figuring out how to survive life sober, she's helped hundreds of people.

Currently, Dona is CEO of Recovery Coaching Experts, and works as a Nationally Certified Recovery Coach and Nationally Certified Interventionist. Learn more about Dona here: https://www.donaspeir.com/.

Young Adult Novel Author Introduces New Multicultural Superheroes

STOCKTON, Calif. -- From an early age, Franklin Towngate fantasized about writing a book that mirrored the TV shows and cartoons of his youth. He took a creative writing class in high school and was inspired to write several manuscripts, one of which was recently published - "The Harlem Knight" (ISBN: 978-0464693796).

The story takes place in Spanish Harlem, a high crime area and home to the book's superhero - Valencia, a teenage girl. An expert in gymnastics and the martial arts, she turns into a masked, crime-fighting superhero when she gets fed up with what's happening in her neighborhood. Her best friend, Anna, doubles as her assistant. Other characters include: Pedro, Anna's crush, and Enrique, a mechanical engineer and college professor who gets framed for a bizarre incident involving a robotic dinosaur attack on the city.

The Knight is ready to take on Enrique's business rival, Angie Perez, who planned the frame-up and is actually responsible for previous robotic dinosaur attacks that caused extensive property damage throughout the area. Equipped with a utility belt that has hi-tech weapons and jet-propelled boots, Valencia's mission is to bring this evil entity to justice.

"Hopefully, my 'Harlem Knight' will soon be worthy enough to join the ranks of the DC or Marvel family one day," Towngate says.

It was "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Disney's Gargoyles" that inspired Towngate to write this action-filled story.

"My story is very unique because this superhero and the other characters are Puerto Rican and there are not many multicultural superheroes in the media today," he says. "I have several other stories in the works that target multicultural communities and hope to release those soon too."

About the Author:

Franklin Towngate studied creative writing and typing in high school. When he received his first computer, he joined these talents together and today is an aspiring author and cartoonist. He continues to entertain young adult audiences through his creative sketches and words. He's passionate about creating a unique voice in the world of superheroes.

She wrote cover stories for "New York Magazine," "Los Angeles Magazine" and "New West Magazine." Alone, she traveled around the world twice.

While visiting Africa, she learned that the U.S. was giving Morocco two million dollars a day in Napalm to exterminate the natives and steal the phosphates - the world's largest deposit (outside of Russia) - and other valuable minerals including silver, uranium, gold and oil to share the proceeds. As a result, she became involved with the foreign minister of the Polisario, a Guerilla group fighting for their independence against Henry Kissinger's Green March.

She worked with Africa's foreign minister and the UN representative to lobby Washington to stop these transactions. She felt she "had to help stop this genocide." Through UN diplomacy and weapons stolen from their enemies, they won and the Western Sahara is now a country on the map and Kissinger failed at his attempt to land-grab.

New Murder Mystery Novel Tells the Story of Oil Rig Worker Encountering Mysterious Murders, Frightening Ghosts and Tropical Love in The Malacca Straits

HOUSTON, Texas -- Long-time oil geophysicist, Nigel Smith, uses his real-life experience working on an oil rig in the Malacca Straits in his new murder mystery novel: "Malacca Mystery" (ISBN: 978-1945532801) available for sale globally in paperback and e-book on May 17, 2019 through all major online book retailers including Amazon.com, iBooks, Barnesandandnoble.com and Amazon Kindle.

This semi-autobiographical book is told through the perspective of a young oil rig worker facing frightening situations involving shocking deaths and havoc caused by a ghostly creature. This newly published novel taps into the Indonesian region's long and dark history of mythical creatures inhabiting its beautiful waters.

"'Malacca Mystery' follows Terry, a young oilfield worker, as he faces a series of plot twists and turns while trying to salvage his job, reputation and ultimately, his life. It's definitely a great novel to read this Summer for adventure book fans across the world," Smith said. "For readers who enjoy escaping to a mysterious world in an exotic location faced with peculiar deaths and terrifying turns, this is the perfect climatic story."

Originally from Australia, the author's global travel experience and career as a geophysicist for various multinational companies has allowed him to add realistic socio-political and geographical elements that make the novel a riveting and believable page turner.

"This novel describes the oilfield in the Far East as it really was in the 1980's. Today's generations may hardly believe the sorts of things that happened and are featured in the book," said Smith, who is currently working on an oil exploration project in Houston, Texas.

Smith has an interesting personal connection to the narrow, 550 mile stretch of water between the Malay Peninsula and the Indonesian island of Sumatra in which Malacca Mystery is based. "I wrote this novel in my 20's while working and living in the Malacca Straits. It was an exhilarating time period of my life which allowed me to experience the region's rich culture and geography; in fact, I documented a lot of my experiences through writing this book," Smith said.

Available worldwide on May 17th, Malacca Murder is available for $14.99 in paperback and e-book on Amazon. To learn more about the novel and the author, visit http://www.NigelSmithBooks.com.
